Ahead of its release in just a few days time, developer KT Racing has unveiled its post-launch plans for Solar Crown, and while its three-monthly seasonal structure is pretty predictable, the actual content really took me by surprise. That's because we'll be leaving Hong Kong Island in its first major update to go somewhere TDU fans will know well: Ibiza.

Robot shooter Gundam Breaker 4 is already hitting big on Steam

Gundam has been a massively popular franchise for close to 50 years now, with torrents of comics and TV shows coming out consistently. It's also spawned a hobby community devoted to building models of the iconic mechs designed for various series over the years, which has, in turn, inspired games like Gundam Breaker 4, a hack and slash mech game and digital robot builder that includes the action of an Armored Core 6 with the machine management of Battletech or Mechwarrior 5. And, though it only came out yesterday, the latest entry to the Breaker series is off to a great start based on player reviews and Steam charts.

nintendo 3ds repair replacement parts

Nintendo in Japan has announced that as of August 28, 2024, it has run out of replacement parts for the New 3DS [KTR-001] model. This means it will no longer accept them for repairs.

Earlier this year, Nintendo announced that it will phase out repairs for the 2DS, 3DS, and 3DS LL consoles. This is due to them no longer stocking the parts they needed. This meant that if you wanted to send your 3DS in for any issues, you had a limited time to do so before they ran out of supplies. It took them a little over five months to run out of the New 3DS parts. If you have issues with your 2DS or 3DS LL, you might still be able to send them in.

Considering that the 3DS came out in 2011, it's no surprise that Nintendo has cut off support for the console. Even the successor to both—the Switch—is on its way out, with rumors of a potential Switch 2 announcement some time soon flying around. Once Nintendo fully runs out of parts, it may be impossible for 2DS or 3DS players to continue enjoying their devices should something arise in the future.

Nintendo will no longer accept the New Nintendo 3DS [KTR-001] for repairs. You will still be able to send in the New Nintendo 3DS LL [RED-001] and 2DS [FTR-001] though.

fate/samurai remnant manga

A manga adaptation of Fate/Samurai Remnant is in the works. It'll also include comments from creators who worked on the DLC characters. [Thanks, Comptiq!]

There's not a lot of information on when the manga will come out yet. However, we know that Mugetsu will be the artist. Mugetsu is an illustrator who has provided artwork for Craft Essences in Fate/Grand Order. As well, they worked on other spin-offs of the property, including the comic book version of Fate/Grand Order: Holy Grail Front.

https://twitter.com/comptiq/status/1828734914617028743

Fate/Samurai Remnant is an original Fate property that was a collaborative effort between Kou Shibusawa and Koei Tecmo. It focuses on the historical figure Miyamoto Iori, who becomes a Master in the Waxing Moon Ritual, which is a derivative of the Holy Grail War. He ends up summoning Saber. The story focuses on the ritual, the allies and enemies Iori makes, and his growing bond with Saber. Since there are multiple endings for the game, time will tell which one the manga follows. It may also have its own original ending that's not from the game.

Fate/Samurai Remnant is readily available on the PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC. More information on when to expect the manga adaptation of Fate/Samurai Remnant will come out in the near future.

vr kanojo

Illumination has opened up a crowdfunding page for VR Kanojo. The page is open, but you won't be able to donate to it until September 2, 2024 via Campfire.

Here is a first crowdfunding campaign for VR Kanojo, or VR Girlfriend:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64__F-S3WX8

The creative and development team for this is the same as the one that came out in 2018. This includes Genz as the supervisor, lead character artist, and art director. The trailer shows the environment you'll be able to spend your time in, with your virtual girlfriend speaking to you as well. At the end, she asks if you're willing to be her first. It's unknown if she means a kiss or something else.

According to information on the crowdfunding page, this will not be a sequel to the original VR Kanojo. This will be a new challenge for the company. It hopes to develop the game in a way that's realistic. In particular, it'll focus on the environment, the clothes, the liquids, or the character. This'll enhance the simulation of a girl who'll make your heart beat faster when she's near you.

The least amount of money you can donate is 1000 JPY, which can garner you a "thank you" message and a digital student ID of the main girl, Sakura. The highest is 300,000 JPY. Other bonuses include mouse pads, a body pillow cover, the original soundtrack, an in-game outfit for Sakura that's exclusive to supporters, an art book, and a special exclusive voice message.

The crowdfunding for VR Kanojo will open up on September 2, 2024 and close on October 19, 2024. This is an all-in campaign so even if Illumination doesn't reach its goal of 2 million JPY, supporters will not get refunds. It'll be available on PC via Steam.

During the Nintendo Direct stream in August 2024, it already revealed that Tales of Graces f Remastered will come out on modern consoles in early 2025, and that it's a part of the greater Remastered Project. hello kitty eva air jet

EVA Air has launched a new Hello Kitty Besties Jet, which is on its inaugural flight BR55 from Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) for Taiwan Taoyuan International (TPE). This aircraft seems like it will only take that route, alternating days of the week depending on the season.

Everyone on the inaugural flight received commemorative gifts. As mentioned earlier, when the Hello Kitty Besties Jet will be in service depends on the season. It will be available on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday in the summer. Then, during winter, it'll be available on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The Hello Kitty elements are all over the exterior and interior of the plane. Since it includes her besties, you'll also be able to see characters like My Melody and Kuromi. This new Besties plane marks the fourth livery jet from EVA Air that features Sanrio characters.

While the EVA Air collaboration with Sanrio does not seem to be in relation to the anniversary, Sanrio has been celebrating the 50th anniversary of the feline mascot. On August 29, 2024, Build-a-Bear unveiled a new 50th anniversary version of the plush. You can make this at its shops, and it'll have an iridescent fur color. Other goods that are part of the celebrations include a Licca-chan doll and CASETiFY cases or other phone merchandise.

The EVA Air Hello Kitty livery jet will service the route between Chicago and Taipei.

Pokémon Mister Donut Collaboration doughnuts

Mister Donut is once again going to team up with The Pokemon Company International for a Pokemon doughnuts event in Japan. The "Jump Out! A Fun Winter Awaits" campaign is set to begin in early November 2024. This marks the seventh year of the ongoing partnership between Mister Donut and the series. [Thank you, Game Watch!]

While specific details about the campaign are still under wraps, Mister Donut has confirmed that the Pikachu doughnuts, which shaped like the iconic Pokemon's face, will make a return. Additionally, a new design will be introduced as part of the collaboration. In the previous collaboration, the baked goods store introduced a Psyduck-themed donut, marking the sixth partnership with the Pokémon Company.

In related news, Hololive VTubers Fuwawa and Mococo's last visit to the Akihabara Mister Donut caused a surge in traffic with their fans, known as "Ruffians." As a result, during Hololive fes people flocked to the store to try the Pon de Rings the twins enjoy. Their social media posts about their visit turned the location into a hotspot for Hololive enthusiasts. Additionally, in a recent interview, Fuwawa and Mococo discussed their move to Japan and the challenges of streaming as a duo. They also shared their excitement about future opportunities and their plans to continue growing as content creators while connecting with their fanbase.

The next Mister Donut Pokemon event will begin in Japan in November 2024.

Review: Arco Combines Satisfying Strategies With Sadness

Oh boy, does Arco make me sad. Part of it stems from the subject matter, which is handled well and forces you to think about the price and victims of colonialism and exploitation. But it's also heartbreaking to play an absolutely excellent gem of a Panic game, then see members of the development team mentioning the title selling badly and going unnoticed. Here's hoping that, after you read my review, you'll see what I see about it and consider giving it a chance.

Arco begins with an Iyo family heading to The Sacred Tree on a pilgrimage to leave offerings. It's honestly quite peaceful. Tecolotl helps his grandfather with an errand. He trains with his father, which acts as a tutorial to get us accustomed to an innovative and thoughtful combat system. He fights some wildlife for a lizard egg to trade for a rattlesnake's rattle as an offering. But there are unknown people around the Sacred Tree they are there to visit, which offers an ominous insight into what is happening to the land and community around them.

Screenshot by Siliconera

Rather than limit you to one viewpoint, Arco shifts between different characters. So right as you begin to connect with Teco, a new chapter begins and you're following Tizo. He's a man with a capital-P past who is now wandering, looking for work. After taking on a job from an old friend, he's finds himself investigating the involvement of "Newcomers" like the Red Company, invaders colonizing, polluting, and conquering the area, in a massacre. From there, you get insight into the Kanek way of life, following a would-be warrior named Itzae determined to prove herself. Afur and Chio, a pair of twin Tuag traders who end up unexpectedly getting into more trouble and discovering more mysteries after they unload items they stole from the Termano at a village. Each story is incredibly well told, with protagonists and NPCs alike that stand out. Especially when all of the threads you explored in the early acts come together.

As you go through all of these stories, you'll eventually get opportunities to make decisions. Some of these seem clear-cut, but others are morally grey and could lead to heartbreak later on in the story. Depending on your decisions, your guilt will increase. Among other influences, this has a tangible effect on the battlefield. You'll see actual ghosts as you're haunted by your choice, getting in your way and perhaps forcing you to make tactical choices you wouldn't or accept consequences if the only way to success is through them. Do you show mercy and take someone along, knowing it is very likely they will betray you? Do you deny aid and live with the guilt, knowing you probably could have afforded to spare items and help.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Oft1Mwob7Q

Speaking of tactics, Arco is a turn-based strategy game that feels incredibly active and thrilling. You can only equip a handful of actions to each character, with more learned as they gain experience from fights. When a battle begins, your goal is to dodge damage from melee attacks or ranged weapons like guns, while also properly positioning yourself, restoring your points for actions, and also moving in such a way that you're able to intercept opponents. Before each "round," an icon will appear over the enemies' heads to suggest what they'll do next. If it involves movement, you can hover over that one to see where they will go.

Your task if to properly react for each turn. So if you see a number of enemies are all going to fire their guns at you during one turn, you can use the dash to evade. Then, the next turn when they are presumably reloading, you could ideally unleash your own ranged attack or get close enough for a melee hit. If an enemy is going to use a melee attack and you are both close enough and have enough energy, you may be able to use one of your own to keep that from happening and damage them. If you equipped an item before the fight, you may be able to use it for AOE damage to hit many foes at once. Plus, you need to anticipate if additional waves show up. It makes you think.

Review: Arco Combines Satisfying Strategies With Sadness
Image via Panic

So do the hidden elements of Arco. You can play through the game in a straightforward way. However, there are also sidequests to take, additional spots to visit, and more to do. That is, if you spend the time wandering around, investigating locations, and talking to people. This is one of those games that feels like a good investment, as I always felt rewarded by those additional moments, even if it led to more guilt.

For as much as I love all of these other elements of Arco, I also can't get over how striking and memorable its sights and sounds are. The minimalistic, sprite-based approach ends up being far more expressive than you'd expect. Homes and towns retain their identities and, in many cases, feel more vibrant due to the fact that we are taking in so much of every moment. While each area you enter is fairly small, there are those aforementioned secrets that come from exploring each corner of an area or going off the beaten path. Not to mention the music is absolutely phenomenal. It's heartfelt. It constantly suits the moment. It lends further authenticity to the regions we're exploring.

Review: Arco Combines Satisfying Strategies With Sadness
Screenshot by Siliconera

The only thing that got to me a bit with Arco involved the Switch performance. Only two issues came up, but they're ones both set to be fixed by a patch. So honestly, by the time you read this, the issue I had with one background track in Act 3 not playing properly sometimes and the game not allowing me to open the save and options menu in one single location in Act 2 could be gone.

Arco is essentially a flawless strategy game that forces you to make difficult choices in and out of battle, then live with those consequences. It's gorgeous and heartfelt. It will challenge you. It will make a region and the tribes of people living there come to life. Then, when it is over, it will leave you wondering what might have been if you made different decisions.

Arco is available on the Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
