Releasing new content for a long-running game is a delicate balancing act. Too much too quickly burns players out, and is often seen as an attempt to slap a band aid on a gaping wound. Performance issues? Here's a new battle pass. Server crashes? Here's a compensation prize. On the opposite end of the spectrum, however, games need fresh additions to survive. The inevitable drought at the end of an MMO expansion, for example, kills me every time, and the last few weeks of a League of Legends season often feel more like a chore than anything else. Valheim is just one such example where updates arrive a little too slowly for its community's liking. I quiz producer Andreas Tomasson and creative lead Robin Eyre about the game's content schedule at Gamescom, and yes, they know they're slow.

As a hopeless Toreador fanatic, I was pretty gutted when Paradox revealed that both the charming Roses and their shadowy cousins, the Lasombra, would be locked behind a paid Bloodlines 2 DLC. Shadows and Silk was initially set to cost $21.99 separately, and was included as part of the premium pre-order edition of the game, but in response to a wave of backlash, Paradox has confirmed that it's making some "adjustments" to that paywall. While we still don't quite know what that entails, a new post confirms when we'll get an update, while also stating that it's issuing refunds to anyone who bought the premium edition on the PlayStation store.

While the FM26 Steam Deck rating is not yet confirmed, an early look at the hardware demands from the game suggests that Valve's gaming handheld may struggle with the higher-than-usual recommended requirements, but should fare well when looking at what is listed as the minimum spec.

The FM26 system requirements are now out, following the release of a match day experience trailer, and while the minimum specs seem to favor the Steam Deck, it's the recommended specs that give us cause for concern. However, as the situation stands right now, we're not expecting an official rating until after release.

Was Hollow Knight Silksong worth the wait? Thanks to Steam issues and a full day's work, I've only had one lunch break to dive in, but in that hour I've beaten the first boss and started on Hornet's journey proper. Many other players have committed far more time to the game, and excitement is still at fever pitch. However, players in some countries are having a worse experience than English speakers. Players in China and France are complaining about the quality of the translation and localization of the game, to the point where Team Cherry has responded.

How do you beat the Silksong Moorwing? Greymoor's secret boss is one nasty critter, especially if you go into the fight unprepared. He's fast, boasts a solid mix of melee and ranged attacks, and inflicts double damage with each hit he lands. In short, he's a massive difficulty jump.

Moorwing is one of the toughest Silksong bosses primarily due to how early you encounter him in the indie game. It's even possible to miss him altogether, whether you happen to take a wrong turn on the Silksong map or you're particularly rigorous about handing in quests. Lucky for you, we've got everything you need to find and beat Moorwing in one handy Hollow Knight Silksong guide.

How long is Hollow Knight Silksong? Team Cherry's long-awaited sequel is finally here, and there's a lot to discover. With over 40 bosses to beat and countless secrets to unearth, progression in Silksong can be different for everyone.

Taking a closer look at the size of the Silksong map, most players will get lost occasionally, making it difficult to determine exactly how long the journey in the Metroidvania game will last. As a result, your final completion time depends on how good you are at the game and how much time you spend combing through every path. We can make an educated estimate of how long Hollow Knight Silksong takes to beat, though.

Some Silksong bosses are optional, but the lovely Lace isn't, and you won't get far in the metroidvania game if you can't defeat her. What are the Silksong bosses? Pharloom is teeming with bugs of all shapes and sizes, but some are undoubtedly creepier and crawlier than others. Like Hollow Knight before it, Silksong's combat is deceptively punishing, but we've got the boss strategies you need to beat all the main and optional bosses without losing all your Soul masks.

Bosses are a staple of Metroidvania games, and Hollow Knight Silksong has its fair share of challenges for Hornet. According to Team Cherry, there are over 40 bosses to beat across the Silksong map, which isn't far off from the 47 bosses that appeared in Hollow Knight. On that basis, we expect Silksong to feature around 15 main bosses and at least 25 optional bosses.

Where are the Silksong fast travel locations? If you played Hollow Knight, you'll know the game's map is vast and complex. Pharloom is by no means a small place, and you might want some help traversing the world as you make your way to The Great Citadel.

Luckily, that's where Bellways comes in. You'll have to wait a little while until you can unlock fast travel in the metroidvania game, but to save you wandering aimlessly around the vast Silksong map, here's how to unlock fast travel, and where to find all the Silksong Bellways.

Ashes of the Singularity 2 aims to offer intergalactic conflict on a colossal scale, and developer Oxide Games is aware of the potential information overload that can create. When you're directing thousands of units at once, all spread across a giant map, it can be tough to find the capacity to think about exactly what your production facilities should be doing. That combination of macromanagement and micromanagement could quickly become overwhelming in the original, so it's at the forefront of the developer's mind as it builds the upcoming sequel.

If you've ever wanted to own an ultrawide handheld gaming PC, then this Chinese hardware hacker is prepared to give you a taste of what is possible. They've managed to put together a custom handheld with a ridiculously wide 32:9 screen, with the specs reportedly including an AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme gaming CPU, as well as a set of detachable controllers.

You'd expect this DIY handheld's massive screen to be the biggest surprise, but that AMD processor can't be ignored, either. The AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme is new enough that we've not seen it too widely just yet, with only the MSI Claw A8 available with it so far, along with the soon-to-be-released Lenovo Legion Go 2. Powerful processor aside, this intriguing piece of PC games hardware looks so professionally made that, if there was a strong market for ultrawide handhelds brewing, we could see it being mass-produced.

The new Cult of the Lamb DLC, Woolhaven, is so large it almost eclipses the base game, according to developer Massive Monster. The cute-but-concerning action roguelike about building a community of fanatical worshippers is set to get a major expansion in early 2026, bringing a wintery tinge to proceedings. It whisks us to a new region in search of the history of the lambs, introduces two corrupted dungeons, adds ranching to your base, and apparently it's going to be especially beefy.

Navigating the map will be just as big of a challenge as battling all the enemies standing in your path, so it's a good idea to know where you're going.

Just like any good Metroidvania game, you're going to be referring back to the Hollow Knight Silksong map whenever you gain a new ability, providing you with access to key locations. If there's one thing you want in a PvP game, it's parity. Fairness. Justice. Ok, maybe justice only rears its head when Batman logs onto Fortnite in his favorite Ariana Grande skin, but generally you don't want some players to have unfair advantages over others. This is a display of skill, not a competition to see who has spent the most money on the game. That was a recurring complaint with Arena Breakout Infinite, as players who have been involved in early access believed the Koen currency offers an unfair advantage. Thankfully, developer Morefun Studios is removing it ahead of the game's full release.

How do you get the Silksong Needle upgrade? Hornet's signature weapon is the most essential tool in her arsenal. It's analogous to the Nail in Hollow Knight, and without it, you wouldn't stand a chance of making it out of Pharloom alive.

You might find that Hollow Knight Silksong enemies are taking one too many hits to defeat than you'd like, especially once you begin to encounter more formidable Silksong bosses. While the earliest sections of the Silksong map can be cleared relatively easily, picking up the Needle upgrade is the best way to make your time in the Metroidvania game a lot easier in the long term. Trust us, clearing trash mobs in two hits is a lot faster than five.

CRKD (pronounced "Cracked") has got the band back together to make an all-new yet entirely familiar take on the third-gen guitar controller that kickstarted the golden age of rhythm games in the west. Bringing mechanical switches, Hall effect technology, and even haptic feedback, this CRKD Gibson Les Paul guitar controller marks a new generation of quality rhythm game controllers. And it should survive a generation, too.

Featured around every curve of CRKD's Gibson-inspired guitar controller body are not just guitar-game buttons but face buttons typical of the best PC controllers out there; a D-pad, joysticks, and everything else you could need are on hand to play any type of game. This isn't to encourage playing the best FPS games with a plastic musical instrument – though someone will doubtless give it the old college try – it's instead designed to remove the need to reach for a separate controller to navigate UIs bewilderingly never designed with guitar inputs in mind.

[site_jumplinks]

The CRKD Guitar controller isn't the first guitar to hit the market in recent years. The space sees a small resurgence every half-decade or so when a publisher decides that maybe the lightning of the late 00s boom can strike twice. But this controller has some pedigree, as it's designed by some of the folk behind the iconic Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock peripheral that kickstarted the golden era of rhythm gaming. We've been using it for a few weeks now, and with a multitude of connectivity options (that stretch even back to the PS3) and dozens of remappable controls to fill in the blanks, it's a serious upgrade. However, for those who mastered speedy slides up to the smaller frets featured on later rhythm games and controllers, last year's PDP Riffmaster will be the better bet at its current pricing.

It's not often that you see a lot of crossover between strategy games and RPGs. Perhaps both will involve turn-based combat, or may touch on similar themes. But new strategy game Drill Rift has gone for a different approach: shamelessly mining Baldur's Gate 3's dice rolling mechanic. Put your pitchfork away, I'm not suggesting that Baldur's Gate invented rolling—that was obviously James Workshop in 1983—but the presentation of the D20 mechanic is practically identical in the two games.

Lenovo has just unleashed a tiny new mini gaming PC, and it has a surprisingly powerful GPU embedded in its innards. The ThinkCentre Neo Ultra Gen 2 features a desktop-grade Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 graphics card inside a small 3.6-liter chassis, although its price tag is likely to make it a hard sell for most gamers.

Price aside, that Nvidia graphics card gives this Lenovo machine some serious heft as a gaming PC, putting it well ahead of the integrated GPUs we've seen in most mini PCs to date. On specs alone, this new Lenovo PC could easily compete with the models in our best mini gaming PC guide, especially against those without a discrete GPU.

The Cronos The New Dawn Steam Deck rating has been confirmed following some minor issues during the early access period for deluxe edition owners. It appears as though Bloober Team has managed to iron out these kinks and bag itself the Steam Deck's highest honors.

The Steam Deck game rating system is one of the reasons why it sits atop our best handheld gaming PC buying guide. It's far from perfect, but it often gives great insight into what to expect from a game's performance on the deck before you buy it.

The Everybody's Golf Hot Shots Steam Deck rating was a hot topic in the lead-up to its release, thanks to the inclusion of a kernel-level anti-cheat. However, this family-friendly golf game is out now, and it turns out there was no need to worry about the anti-cheat at all.

Typically, the Steam Deck doesn't get on well with anti-cheat software, and I've written about how Steam Deck anti-cheat has become one of the Valve handheld's biggest concerns. Despite this, as we discuss in our buying guide, we still consider it the best handheld gaming PC on the market, regardless of this compatibility issue.

For most of his game-making career, Australian developer dweedes has projected an image of cheeky, punkish rebellion. His website WET GAMIN has accumulated a trove of experimental games over the last decade: short works by various freeware developers that exemplify a scribbly, DIY spirit. Now, making and selling games on Steam under his studio Nonsense Machine, dweedes finds himself in the position of stepping up his commercial and craft ambitions while trying to stay true to his anti-corporate roots.

"I'll put out games for free because it kind of lightens the load off my head," he tells me as we chat over Discord. "I don't have to market it, I don't have to invest time in it. I just want to get the idea out, and then people can play it. There's no quality target, so it's fun for trying new ideas and throwing whatever you want out and not thinking too hard about it."

See 2 Minutes of Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter Costume DLC

Nihon Falcom already announced a bunch of paid cosmetic, costume DLC for Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter characters, even already listing 26 pieces in the Japanese eShop, and now there's a trailer showing off add-ons too. It spends almost two and a half minutes showing off costumes, outfits, glasses, angel wings, banner flags, alternate hair colors, Orbment Covers, and swimsuits. These bundles will begin appearing on September 19, 2025, then continue to roll out until October 2, 2025.

There are certain sorts of costume and accessories sets that are part of these Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter DLC releases for characters, and different parts show up in each batch. For example, there will be diner costumes for all characters, but they're split up into three volumes. The first set only gives people Estelle and Joshua's costumes for 880円 (~$5.99). The second has the outfits for Kloe, Olivier, and Schera. In the third, you get the Agate, Tita, and Zin ones. Likewise, the angel and demon accessory sets with different types of halo, horn, and wing parts are split in similar ways, with the archangel pieces in the first wave, fallen angel set in the second, and demon ones in the third. In some cases, all parts for a theme are in one set, such as the Estelle, Joshua, and Tita Jenis school uniforms in one 990円 (~$7) set on September 25, 2025, and both Estelle and Joshua swimsuits in a 990円 (~$7) pack on October 2, 2025.

Here's the full trailer. It starts by showing off the September 19, 2025 releases, then moves on to the September 25, 2025 and October 2, 2025 add-ons.

More Sanrio Characters Sushi Gacha Toys Debut in September

Sanrio and Takara Tomy announced a new Sanrio Characters Sushi 2 collection of gacha toys that will appear in capsule machines in Japan. They are set to appear starting around September 8, 2025, and it will be 300円 (~$2) for a try.

There are five characters represented in this run, and each one involves a different type of sushi. In almost every case, the piece of fish is on the character's back, with the exception of Pompompurin, who is inside inari. The announcement only showed Badtz Maru, Pekkle, Kuromi, Hangyodan, and Pompompurin, and it didn't clarify what type of sushi everyone one of them is. Badtz Maru is otoro nigiri (fatty tuna), Kuromi seems to be ebi nigiri (shrimp), and Pompompurin is very obviously inari. It looks like Hangyodon could maybe be tako nigiri. I also think Pekkle might be hamachi nigiri (yellowtail).

Here's how those will look:

The first run of these Sanrio characters sushi gacha toys appeared in March 2024. Those were also 300円 (~$2) per try. That selection also featured five mascots, with Cinnamoroll, Hello Kitty, Keroppi, My Melody, and Pochacco standing with food on their backs.

This is a pretty common theme for Sanrio collections. Thank You Mart also sold merchandise with a similar theme. The characters looked like they were inside or part of the sushi, rather than featuring pieces on their back, however.

The Sanrio Characters Sushi 2 gacha toys will appear in gashapon capsule machines in Japan starting on September 8, 2025, and it's unknown if or when we could see these toys worldwide.

6 NTT Solmare Shall We Date Mobile Otome Games Ending

NTT Solmare announced that it will delist six of its eight mobile otome games, leaving only the two Obey Me entries online. The closure process will start on September 28, 2025, as that is when the games will be delisted and in-app purchases will end. On October 28, 2025, all games are expected to become unplayable and closed for good.

Here's the full list of all six Shall We Date otome games that will be ending. This will also mark the end of the Dear Otome app that allows you to access all six of them, as that's how you play the visual novels on iOS devices.

  • Blood in Roses +
  • Guard Me, Sherlock +
  • Lost Alice +
  • Love Tangle +
  • Ninja Shadow +
  • Wizardess Heart +

This will leave the mobile titles Obey Me and Obey Me: Nightbringer as the company's two remaining games.

NTT Solmare is especially well known for its localizations of Idea Factory Otomate otome games, as it would translate and release them as mobile titles. Some of the more notable ones were Beastmaster and Princes, Demon's Bond (Toki no Kizuna), Princess Arthur, Scarlet Fate (Hiiro no Kakera), Wand of Fortune. However, some of them were lost earlier due being part of the now-gone Story Jar or previous closures.

Shall We Date: Blood in Roses, Guard Me, Sherlock, Lost Alice, Love Tangle, Ninja Shadow, andWizardess Heart, as well as the Dear Otome app that offered access to all games, will be delisted on September 28, 2025 and closed on October 28, 2025.

Daemon x Machina: Titanic Scion Free Update DLC Roadmap Shared

We already knew that Daemon x Machina: Titanic Scion would get paid DLC, given the Digital Deluxe included post-launch cosmetics and an expansion pack, and now Marvelous confirmed its free update roadmap after launch. There will be new additions appearing throughout October through December 2025. New details about launch DLC, including two free hairstyles and two free emotes, also appeared alongside two trailers.

First, the Daemon x Machina: Titanic Scion update roadmap included both the free items and the paid Into the Abyss DLC expansion that is part of the more expensive editions of the game. More items start to rollout in October 2025. That starts with an additional boss fight and cosmetic on October 2, 2025. Initial teaser images showed how both looks. On October 16, 2025, there will be another free patch. That will include two new cosmetic looks, with one being a suit, and two more bosses. Sometime in November 2025, the paid expansion pack will appear. That can be purchased separately if you didn't get a special edition. Finally, three mystery bosses will be added for free in December 2025.

Here's the roadmap image:

As for the things out now, we can all grab the Fist Pump and Roar emotes and Giant Mohawk and Punk hairstyles. These are an actual additional download and not added via an automatic update or patch. In terms of paid launch DLC, there's a $4.99 Special Equipment Set with Bahamut Arsenal Skin, Beguiling Outer Suit, and Victorious Gleam Laser Blade, a $3.99 Special SFC Weapon Set with six types of guns, and a $5.99 Arsenal Skin Set with Crusader, Grosse Feier, Rabbit 11, Muramasa, and Prototype Arsenal skins.

The trailers basically offer more information now that the game is out. One is the general launch trailer:

Evangelion Delta Cross Reflections will be the 1st of 3 XR games

Pixelity has revealed Evangelion: Δ(Delta) - Cross Reflections as a new XR (Extended Reality) game. This title will also be the first of the three Evangelion XR games in the project that the same company announced back in February 2025.

The whole project will eventually cover all 26 episodes of Neon Genesis Evangelion. As the first entry, Cross Reflections will focus on the first 11 episodes of the original 1995 Evangelion TV anime.

This XR game, which combines VR (Virtual Reality) and MR (Mixed Reality) features, will place the player as the protagonist who aspires to become an Evangelion pilot. They will be able to interact with characters from the original show. In addition to the anime's main storyline, this XR game will also have more story episodes with brand-new original characters.

In the Japanese press release, the development team promised that Neon Genesis Evangelion fans will feel like they are actually involved in the anime's events, while those who are new to the show can also access it as an entry point to the series. Pixelity will also open an official social media account to publish more details about this XR game.

Review: Hololive Holo's Hanafuda Is Casual and Fun

We don't get many Hanafuda games outside Japan. When one does appear, even if its made for a niche audience, it can be a big deal. That's the case for Hololive Holo's Hanafuda from Gemdrops,  one of the latest holo indie titles, as it pairs up Vtubers from Cover with the card game. It's such a solid showing, especially since it has an online multiplayer that supports cross-play with the console release and is quite well-populated, that anyone interested in the card game should consider at the very least trying out its demo.

The Hololive Holo's Hanafuda campaign (yes, there's a story mode) follows Vtubers Nakiri Ayame, Ookami Mio, Sakura Miko, and Shirakami Fubuki as they prepare for a tournament, then get sucked into themed worlds based on the months and flower suits in the deck. It's not an earth-shattering story, but it is quite cute and could be helpful when easing people unfamiliar with the card game into the experience. Especially since it also introduces the Holo Awase ruleset with power-ups tied to specific generations for claiming cards that show certain performers on them.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Q_BRkjFwRQ

It's the actual card game that matters here, and Hololive Holo's Hanafuda is great at providing that experience with a Vtuber coating. In addition to the campaign, you can play offline or online. The rulesets are traditional Koi-Koi, a variant of that with power-ups that include buffs and debuffs called Holo Awase, and Oicho-Kabu. (You don't have to fire up one of the Yakuza games for rounds of that last one anymore!) Cards are very clearly presented on the table, information is laid out well, and it's easy to check set lists or toggle help on and off.

The online multiplayer impressed me too! I played on a handheld gaming PC, and I had no trouble finding matches. When I did get into one, it was responsive with no lag. It also didn't take too long to find fellow players, though I did make sure I played around Japanese time zones to ensure I wouldn't be alone. Cross-play seemed competent. The only qualm is that it is a bit of a rudimentary multiplayer mode, as there's no ranked option. Given this is part of that indie line, I suppose I understand. And, in the time I was playing, Gemdrops did end up patching it to penalize people who would ditch matches if it looked like they were losing, so at least the developers seem like they're keeping an eye out for feedback.

Hololive Holo's Hanafuda also looks so great. The cards all feature Hololive Vtubers, but at the same time nail the classic Hanafuda card aesthetic. It looks lovely. I'd buy physical cards with those types of prints. (You know, if Trump tariffs and the end of de minimis exemption weren't making those kinds of those impulse purchases near impossible.) If you aren't a Vtuber fan, you can also opt for more traditional looking cards, but I really recommend going with the themed approach since they're so pretty.

The downside to Hololive Holo's Hanafuda is, while enjoyable, I didn't feel like I someone who picked it up would end up learning to play the card game well by playing it. The tutorial is comprehensive, but it doesn't really get into learning about why you should play certain cards where or when you should try for certain groupings. Instead, it will just remind you that you'll see automatically if cards could be played and used to claim via outlines when that option is enabled. There can also be hints about special moves. So as long as you're placing cards as suggested in a way that let you keep building up collections you claimed, you could be fine and have a great time. But if you do already know how to play, it's a fantastic way of getting into the card game. Ironically, I feel like a trailer for it did a better job of explaining how to play the card game.

Hololive Holo's Hanafuda is a pleasant, casual Hanafuda experience that is great for anyone interested in the card game, not just Vtuber fans. It covers a few different rulesets. Its original Holo Awase option with power-ups adds a little extra flash. It also seemed like there's a pretty active online multiplayer scene tied to it. And since there are different card themes, you could swap to that, largely ignore the campaign, and enjoy more typical Hanafuda experiences instead.

Hololive Holo's Hanafuda is available for the PC, PS4, PS5, and Switch

Hornet looking at a purple flower that contains a Pollip in Hollow Knight: Silksong

Finding all the Pollip Hearts for the Rite of the Pollip quest is difficult. You might think the quest should be easy just because you get it from Greyroot early in your adventures through Shellwood, but the only way to complete it is by clearing the boss in the area.

Let's go through the preparations you need to complete the Pollip Hearts quest. First, defeat Shellwood's boss, Sister Splinter, to find a room where you'll unlock the wall-jumping powers of Cling Grip. You can find this boss by navigating up and right of Greyroot's room until you get to the right edge of Shellwood, from where you'll start going up and left.

With Cling Grip, it's time to start looking for Pollip Hearts. Greyroot says you need to "seek out the purple blooms," and inside them, you'll find the hearts. If you want hints instead of all the answers at first, I have one for you. Look for little purple flowers on the walls and for rooms or areas with floating purple petals. If you see either or both, you're very close to a purple bloom with a Pollip Heart.

The blooms that contain Pollip Hearts are big purple flowers attached to walls. Only one of them will be in each area. To extract their heart, simply hit it with your Needle until they burst, which will cause them to drop a Pollip Heart on the ground, marked by a purple glow. Interact with the glowing item to collect it.

Pollip Hearts map

Here's the map with all Pollip Heart locations. Their spots are numbered so you can reference them with their specific locations in the article section following the map. You don't need to pick them in that order.

A map screenshot of the Shellwood area in Silksong with locations for all Pollips marked.

Pollip Heart #1

This Pollip Heart is near the entrance to Shellwood. Screenshot by Destructoid

This Pollip Heart is the closest one to the bottom right entrance to Shellwood, which doesn't mean you can grab it early. The only way to reach this platform is by using Cling Grip to jump on the wall on the top right of the room. Once you're there, simply hit the blossom to get a Pollip Heart.

Pollip Heart #2

Hornet standing next to a Pollip Heart on the ground in Silksong.
This Pollip is also close to the entrance. Screenshot by Destructoid

You can grab this Pollip Heart without Cling Grip in the room to the left of the entrance of Shellwood. Go all the way to the left, climb the platforms, then head right until you find a series of platforms that will lead you upward to where you'll find the purple blossom. As usual, hit the flower and collect the Heart.

Pollip Heart #3

Hornet jumping from flower to flower to reach the purple flower and get a Pollip Heart in Silksong.
Complete this tricky jumping puzzle to get this Pollip Heart. Screenshot by Destructoid

This Pollip Heart is really tricky to reach. You must bounce on a series of white flowers that make a path upward, where you'll spot a purple blossom. To bounce on a flower, jump toward it, and press down and the attack button to swing your needle below you. This will propel Hornet upward and close to the next flower, where you'll do the same until you're high enough to reach the blossom.

While you can try to hold the jump button to float between flowers, I found it easier to do all the attacks in a row because floating made me overthink and overcalculate Hornet's movements. If you're struggling with floating, try just finding a good attacking pace to reach the Pollip Heart.

Pollip Heart #4

Hornet standing next to where a Pollip Heart would be in Silksong.
You'll need a lot of wall jumping for this one. Screenshot by Destructoid

The fourth purple boom with a Pollip Heart is close to where you kill Sister Splinter and get the Cling Grip. If you go to the room marked on the map, you'll see that the path to this Pollip Heart is like a simple vertical platforming puzzle. Go up and all the way to the left, where you'll drop from a ledge and move right to find the purple blossom.

Pollip Heart #5

Hornet standing next to another Pollip Heart in Silksong
This Pollip is deep into Shellwood. Screenshot by Destructoid

You can get this Pollip right after Pollip Heart #4. It's in the center room of Shellwood, and you can get to this spot by jumping on the walls to the far left of the room, as if you were leaving to the right of it, next to its right exit. Go left as soon as you're about half of the room's height, and you'll see a wall with purple flowers on it. Cling and slide on it, hold left, and you'll be on a platform with this purple bloom to collect its heart.

Pollip Heart #6

Hornet standing on a platform next to a vine wall that hides the last Pollip Heart in Silksong.
Break the vine wall on the bottom left to find this Pollip Heart. Screenshot by Destructoid

The last Pollip Heart is only accessible via Bellhart. To get to Bellhart, exit Shellwood from the top right, also to the right of where you killed Sister Splinter. Once you're in the upper part of Bellhart, start dropping down carefully to avoid the huge bell bugs. When the big drops end, go all the way to the left, and you'll find a passage that will take you back to Shellwood, but that you couldn't access before.

Keep going to the right while doing the platforming section with the spikes. Going through the bottom part of this area, you'll find a vine wall with purple flowers. Jump toward it, destroy the vines, and you'll find the last purple bloom to collect its Pollip Heart.

Rite of the Pollip reward

A screenshot of the Pollip Pouch charm in the inventory of Silksong.
Pollip Pouch will help you deal some extra damage. Screenshot by Destructoid

With all six Pollip Hearts, go back to Greyroot in the bottom left of Shellwood, as marked on the map in this article. Speak to it twice and you'll trade your Pollips for a Pollip Pouch. The Pollip Pouch is a charm you can equip in the blue slot. It applies a poison effect to your tools.

In my case, the Straight Pins I used to hit enemies would poison them and make them take passive damage four times after they got hit. Essentially, it's a small attack boost to your Tools. This means that your normal Needle attacks, unfortunately, don't apply poison with Pollip Pouch, since the Needle is a weapon, not a tool.

If you want to make your Needle stronger, you'll have to upgrade it at Pinmaster Plinney.

The main character in Hollow Knight Silksong fighting a sword duelist.

It's all about Hollow Knight: Silksong, baby, in this week's edition of Whatcha Playing here at Destructoid, and it appears the wait has been worth it.

The indie MetroidVania has taken over Steam and the general gaming lexicon after its release yesterday, and early returns are that the hype is deserved. I have the original Hollow Knight in my neverending backlog so I won't be playing the spin-off/sequel this weekend, and so my curiosity is piqued.

A screenshot of Hollow Knight: Silksong featuring a boss fight
Image via Team Cherry

I'll be filling in for normal "Whatcha" writer Andrej Barovic this weekend as my PC is currently on the fritz so I am limited in my Destructoid capabilities for the time being. And so, I am here to poll the audience of dear readers: whatcha playing this weekend?

Here at Destructoid, it's a bit of a grass-touching weekend for me since my PC is currently and unfortunately in the shop. I'm hoping it's an easy and cheap fix, because, well, I need it to for my job! Other than that, I will be delving into my consoles and maybe Steam Deck for the weekend. The Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls closed beta is in my PS5 library and ready to go, so I will be dabbling in that and hoping for some Marvel vs. Capcom vibes, while also playing with my dogs as much as I can.

Fellow writer Kacee Fay will be still diving into Tiny Bookshop, which they have "been absolutely obsessed with." She added, "it's kind of bad because it has actual books in it so I keep finding books that sound interesting and adding them to my already way-too-long to-read pile."

Mr. Barovic, meanwhile, will be taking some of the time freed up by me stealing their weekly work to play World of Tanks, the Anno 117 demo, Rise of Nations, and Hell is Us, so it appears all of my lost gaming hours will be going to him instead.

Editor Luci Kelemen says they will be mixing in their editing duties with "some Super Meat Boy and Heroes of Might and V mixed in maybe," along with chess, as usual. I get the feeling that chess to Luci is what Marvel Snap is to me. And finally, assigning editor Adam Newell will be digging in to a new LEGO One Piece set, which looks quite fun.

Whether you're Silksong-ing it up, playing something different, or taking a break from games to enjoy the last bit of summer, make sure to let us know in the comments below how you'll be spending your weekend, dear reader.

As you slay your way through Pharloom in Hollow Knight: Silksong, you'll pick up Shell Shards from the enemies you've felled. They're one of two forms of currency you'll find, and at first, they might seem useless next to the all-important Rosaries.

However, that's not true at all. Shell Shards are incredibly valuable, but Silksong doesn't come out and tell you what they're used for. Once I found out, I immediately wanted to know how I could get more of them. Thankfully, I found that out, too.

What are Shell Shards used for in Hollow Knight: Silksong?

Hollow Knight: Silksong Forge Daughter - Hornet stands next to the Forge Daughter
Image via Team Cherry

Shell Shards aren't really money, not in the way Rosaries are. You don't use them to unlock benches or buy maps from Shakra. Instead, Shell Shards have two specific uses. The first is to fulfill some quests on Bone Bottom's Wishwall. These quests will ask you to donate a specific amount of Shell Shards, and completing them will make the Pilgrim's ramshackle settlement livelier.

The second use for Shell Shards is maintaining the tools the Forge Daughter makes for you. We already have a great guide on how to find the Forge Daughter, so check it out if you haven't found her yet.

Once you've exchanged a few hundred Rosaries and a few chunks of Craftmetal for tools like the String Shard, you'll notice you can only use them a few times before they run out. That's where Shell Shards come in. Whenever you sit down at a bench, you'll automatically use Shell Shards to "refuel" whatever tool you have equipped.

How to hold more Shell Shards in Hollow Knight: Silksong

Hollow Knight: Silksong: Buying the Tool Puch from Mort.
Screenshot via Destructoid

At the start of your Silksong journey, you'll only be able to hold 400 Shell Shards. If you get invested in using tools, you'll probably end up wanting to hold more. Luckily, there is a way to expand your carrying capacity.

Once you've gotten the Drifting Cloak and beaten the Fourth Chorus in Far Field, ride the updrafts in the central chamber, but hook off to the right about halfway to the top. This will lead you to Pilgrim's Rest, a Pilgrim sanctuary you can unlock for 30 Rosaries. Once you're inside, you can buy the Tool Pouch from Mort for 220 Rosaries. This upgrade lets you carry more tools, and it also expands your Shell Shard carrying capacity. Buy it as soon as you can, though; the fee to unlock Pilgrim's Rest resets every time you leave. Cheapskates.

Promotional artwork for Hollow Knight Silksong shows Hornet against a gloomy background

So you're a few hours into Hollow Knight: Silksong, you vaguely remember it saying "Act 1" a little while ago, and you're wondering when—or if—you might ever see another chapter marker?

Well then, yes, we're here to explain just how many Acts there are in Silksong, and (without spoilers) roughly explain what they entail. Still, there will be some light spoilers like place names, so don't read on if you want to avoid any spoilers on the matter.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XGeJwsUP9c&pp=ygUnaG9sbHdvIGtuaWdodCBzaWxrc29uZyBvZmZpY2lhbCB0cmFpbGVy0gcJCbIJAYcqIYzv

At the time of writing, there are two Acts in Hollow Knight: Silksong. Act 1 entails Hornet exploring the area of Pharloom, while Act 2 follows Hornet exploring the Citadel of Song. Currently, it does not seem like there is an Act 3. However, this could be reserved for post-game content or for DLC.

Act 1 seems to consist mostly of the underground areas from the beginning of the game, such as Bone Bottom, The Marrow, Deep Docks, and Far Fields. It's unclear exactly what occurs towards the end of Act 2, but we're sure Hornet will be tackling some very dangerous foes along the way.

MindsEye driving and shooting

Trying their best to save what they can, MindsEye devs at Build-a-Rocket-Boy have released its fourth major update. This comes as BARB reportedly wishes to "relaunch" the game, which is one of the worst-received gaming disasters in the industry's history.

As per IGN, MindsEye Update 4 is a 15GB-sized patch on PC, about 7GB on the PS5, and 12GB on Xbox Series S and X. It includes a ton of improvements and fixes, most notably to its performance, combat, and AI behavior. PC was targeted as the primary platform for this Update, given that about half of the entire patch is exclusive to that version of the game. Dozens of bugs were seemingly fixed, too, while animations, dialogue, and other bits of the game were refined and updated to appear more natural.

And this would all be fine and dandy if MindsEye weren't an unsalvageable game, whose many faults are going to need a lot of time (and, most importantly, a lot of money) to bounce back. If this were another case of No Man's Sky, where a small, private company shuts up and starts fixing things, I'd say there's hope for it.

Gunplay in MindsEye
Even after three major updates, MindsEye is still in the red on Steam and other platforms. Screenshot via I/O Interactive

But we're talking about a title which was the first game published by IO Interactive's new publishing branch, and one which has already gone through a series of layoffs and staff cuts. Despite ambitious internal promises from director Leslie Benzies and talks of a potential "relaunch," players have already had their fill of this attempt at a game.

Additionally, MindsEye and BARB would have to have a creative vision, understand their position, and figure out how to set the game on the right path with continuous effort. Instead, Benzies claimed the game didn't fail because of its own lack of merit, but rather "internal and external sabotage," which prevented the title from ever reaching the greatness it was meant to.

All things considered, I don't see a grand redemption for MindsEye. Benzies and BARB should try to make the game at least somewhat playable and move on, taking what they've learned with MindsEye and ensuring it never happens again.

Not all redemption arcs have to be centered around making that one failure a success and sticking it to the "saboteurs."

Hornet looking at the Moss Druid cooking in Hollow Knight: Silksong

The Hunter's March is one of the trickiest areas to traverse in Hollow Knight Silksong, and having its map will be invaluable.

For starters, you'll have to use pogo jump to travel in this region, thanks to the map design. On top of that, the region also has a missing Flea located in one of its corners. To make your life easier, you'll want to obtain the map for the Hunter's March region as soon as possible.

This guide will help you uncover the exact location of the map merchant in this region and what she offers.

How to purchase the Hunter's March map in Hollow Knight Silksong?

The best way to enter Hunter's March, when you're accessing the region for the first time, is from the left entrance as you exit The Marrow. In simpler words, reach the point where Hornet's icon is on my map. Then, follow the instructions as I have mentioned.

Hornet's location outside Hunter's March in Hollow Knight Silksong
Screenshot by Destructoid

  • As you rush in from The Marrow, you'll notice red flowers at this location. You'll have to use a pogo jump on them in order to travel upwards.
  • Rush in through the narrow lane, defeat two small ant-type bugs, and keep pogo jumping upwards till you come to a point where there are two paths to take. Select the path that heads right.

The path from where you go deep inside Hunter's March in Hollow Knight Silksong
Screenshot by Destructoid

  • Continue rightwards by jumping on a couple of red flowers to take the next ledge.
  • Cross to the next ledge by jumping on two more flowers, and get down to the bottom. Keep heading to the right.
  • The next room doesn't have any enemies, but it will test your parkour skills with the red flowers.
  • The next room couldn't have been more different, as it has enemies and traps. To escape the traps, use your dash ability.
  • Finally, go down and keep heading east to come across Shakra.

She will offer you the option to purchase Hunter's March Map for 70 Rosaries, which is pretty cheap. This will allow you to chart the tricky terrain of this entire region.

The Moorwing boss, as seen in Hollow Knight: Silksong.

The terror of Greymoor, Moorwing is the first wall in Hollow Knight: Silksong for many. After all, it can end Hornet's journey with a couple of hits.

Nevertheless, the boss must be brought down if you want to advance, and luckily, you don't have to do it alone. Here's how to beat Moorwing in Hollow Knight: Silksong, as well as how to get Garmond and Zaza to join in on the fray.

How to beat Moorwing in Hollow Knight Silksong

Hornet faces Moorwing in Silksong.
Screenshot by Destructoid

Like Lace, Moorwing only has access to a few attacks at the start of the fight: a soar (which can only be avoided by jumping or floating), a sonic boom-like grounded projectile, and a series of scratches. The projectiles can be easily exploited by jumping and then attacking. Here's how to counter the remaining moves:

  • Soar: Jump to avoid the attack before performing a downward slash (Reaper Crest) or pierce (Hunter Crest). A successful slash guarantees a follow-up.
  • Scratches: Dash to the opposite direction before performing a series of jumping attacks.

Upon suffering significant damage, Moorwing will then become agitated and start using enhanced projectiles capable of circling it and comboing into each other. His standard grounded variant also changes, and can now clip you in the air. Any mistake here is fatal, so stay quick on your feet while saving Silk for Bind. Make sure to also prioritize avoiding the projectiles and only attack once the boss stops or performs its easy-to-counter moves.

If you are having trouble adapting to the Reaper moveset during the fight, you can change back to the Hunter Crest by heading to the Crest Screen at any bench.

How to fight Moorwing with Garmond and Zaza in Hollow Knight Silksong

Although their presence won't cause the boss to stop targeting you, it's possible to get Garmond and Zaza to aid you against Moorwing by exhausting the knight's dialogue before meeting them at the spot marked below after the path to the boss is unlocked.

Hornet talks to Garmond and Zaza.

During the fight, the knight can deal a fair amount of damage if close and block projectiles momentarily. I highly recommend accepting their help, as you never know what it might unlock later on.

Hornet standing next to Pinmaster Plinney in Hollow Knight: Silksong

You unlock the Needle upgrade in Hollow Knight: Silksong by speaking to Pinmaster Plinney in Bellhart. It's as simple as that, but the path to get to this point is difficult because you need to defeat two strong bosses almost back-to-back.

Bellhart is the haunted city you find right after defeating Moorwing in Greymoor. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, bad news: You're too far from the Needle upgrade and should wait until you defeat Moorwing, which is the fifth boss in Silksong and the one that follows Fourth Chorus.

Pinmaster Plinney is in that haunted city, but before you can find and speak to him, you need to purify Belhart by defeating the area's boss. To free the city, go all the way to the left from Haunted Belhart, and you'll be in the new area of Shellwood.

Shellwood expands west and upwards, so you'll need to do a lot of platform jumping to navigate it. Your key goal in this area is to defeat the Sister Splinter boss and unlock the Wall Jump, also known as Cling Grip. Once you do so, go all the way to the upper right of Shellwood to transition into the upper part of Belhart. You're about to head to another boss fight, so make sure to save on a bench close to Bellhart.

Once in upper Belhart, head down carefully and east. I say "carefully" because almost every drop is protected by a moving bug with a huge bell on its head, which damages Hornet if she touches it. You'll need to have precise timing and use Cling Grip to avoid damage as you head down.

Fight the Widow

You'll eventually hear a creature groaning under you, and that's where you'll fight a boss called Widow. The trick here is to pay attention to where Widow's silk strings point to at all times, as they indicate where an attack is coming to get you. If you want a preview of the fight, check the video below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnGj7BYKPUE

Once you defeat Widow, you'll have to play through a jumping puzzle in a short cutscene. The trick here is to move quickly since all platforms disappear in about two seconds after you step on them, taking a few extra seconds to reappear. Use your Cling Grip to jump from wall to wall and, when holding onto a wall, dash without jumping to clear gaps between adjacent walls. Reach the end of the puzzle and you'll be back in Bellhart, which won't be haunted anymore.

Pinmaster Plinney location

Pinmaster Plinney is exactly where Hornet's icon is on this map. Screenshot by Destructoid.

Pinmaster Plinney is back in Belhart, along with other NPCs. His shop is in the top right corner of the city. To get there, go all the way to the left of Belhart, staying inside the city, and jump on the metal platforms to go up. Head right, where the first shop on a platform is Relic Seeker Scrounge's. Ignore it for now and jump to the platforms to the right of it, where you'll see a bell house with needles painted on a sign on top of it. That's where Pinmaster Plinney is.

Hornet standing next to Pinmaster Plinney's hut in Hollow Knight: Silksong
This is Plinney's hut. Screenshot by Destructoid.

Go in and talk to Pinmaster Plinney, who will upgrade your Needle for free after a cool cutscene. If you've done everything right, you'll see a "Needle Sharpened" text on the bottom left of your screen after the cutscene ends.

Now, Hornet's Needle is stronger, and you can hopefully take down enemies in fewer hits than before.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Forge Daughter - Hornet stands next to the Forge Daughter

As you start your journey in Hollow Knight: Silksong, you only have your trusty needle and your wits to help you along your way. Thankfully, there are a few weapons you can pick up along the way, and one particular NPC has a few different tools to assist you.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Forge Daughter - A menu shows teh selection of items available in the Forge Daughter shop
Image via Team Cherry

Deep down in the Deep Docks, you can find the Forge Daughter, and this character has quite a few items for sale that will help you navigate the area and thwart the local foes.

First up, you can find the Forge Daughter at the location marked on the image below. They are located to the right of the central bench in the area, and after you drop down from the main route, move to the right. If you find a room with lava flowing in the background, head up and hit the switches to emerge in the right room.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Forge Daughter - a map shows the location of the forge daughter
Image via Team Cherry

Once you find the Forge Daughter, they have several helpful things for sale:

Item Description Rosarie Cost Craftmetal Cost
Sting Shard A vicious stabbing trap? We can build it. Just know, it disturbs us, these devious implements you conceive to kill. 140 1
Magma Bell Forged iron bell, crafted to ward against the intense heat of the Deep Docks. Reduces the damage taken from flame and magma. 110 1
Crafting Kit Crafting by claw alone produces inferior results. With this kit, you can craft finer, sharper, and deadlier tools... if that is your wish. 180 N/A
Sharp Bundle To maintain one's tools is a constant task. These shards should be kept close when you travel, so you can repair and replenish as the need arises. 50 N/A

When it comes to what you should spend your hard-earned cash on, only you can decide, but for us, the Sting Shard is a fantastic addition to Hornet's arsenal. Otherwise, using the magma bell to avoid some environmental damage has also been fantastic. Of course, if you have enough rosaries, then you can do as you please.

Please note, this is all we know about the Forge Daughter so far. Like many things in the original Hollow Knight, we expect the character's location to change as they could pop up elsewhere. Plus, the shop line-up could change once everything is out of stock. We'll update this guide as and when we get any new information.

Hornet in Silksong next to The Knight from Hollow Knight

Metroidvanias are the one genre of games that I never really understood. Having tried many in the past, I have steered clear of them for the past several years. But all changed with the launch of Silksong, whose addictive gameplay and level design I can't get enough of.

I've already clocked in several hours in the game and now plan to jump on just about every similar title out there, including Blasphemous, the original Hollow Knight, and many more.

Interconnected worlds just feel right

The Moorwing boss, as seen in Hollow Knight: Silksong.
Silksong's snappy, flashy, and visceral gameplay made me rethink metroidvanias as a whole. Screenshot by Destructoid

I have always been a strong proponent of "open zones." When you segment your game's world into zones, whether they be connected directly or via loading screens, you have a lot more leverage as a designer to keep everything fresh, and, most importantly, balanced.

If a world is too open and reaching any part of it is as easy as walking there from the onset, you fall into the trap of players reaching "tough" spots before they were meant to.

This last often happened in titles like Elden Ring, where many ended up facing Radahn before reaching Morgott, which quickly showed them the faults of big open worlds. Where this often does not happen are metroidvanias, where each "zone," which is hand-crafted to appeal to a particular strength level, is separate from the other, though they remain connected.

Playing through Silksong, I finally understood the brilliance of this approach. You never feel like the zone you're currently in is relatively much harder than the one before. Each part of this massive, interconnected world has a particular mandatory item you need to unlock or find to progress further, with the following zone centered around those mechanics afforded to you by it.

Additionally, I finally felt, for the first time in a long while, that same feeling of descending down the elevator in Dark Souls 1 and arriving back at Firelink Shrine, having thought thus far that I'm on the other side of the map. Silksong is full of amazing shortcut unlocks, which inspire that same feeling of awe as I'd had in FromSoftware's 3D metroidvania.

Snappy combat, flashy visuals

Blasphemous: Wounds of Eventide wallpaper
Silksong now inspires me to look at other metroidvanias, like Blasphemous, and uncover what made them great. Image via The Game Kitchen

What side-scroller metroidvanias often possess are fast-paced, high-octane combat sequences, but being someone who loves "feedback" in games, I never really saw the appeal. Hitting an enemy and only seeing it flash, with no health bar or other such visual information or even weight to the hits and attacks, simply did not scratch any itch for me.

But with Silksong, I feel that's changed. Killing an enemy shakes the entire screen, adding a lot of kick and effect to your sword. The sound cues are visceral, sharp, and produce a very satisfying feeling. Add to that the very flashy and stylish animations, which, when executed in succession, produce a ton of cinematic vibes, and you've got yourself more feedback than you'd ever need.

This got me thinking: what other metroidvanias give out the same vibes? The first that came to mind was Blasphemous, a game very similar to Silksong and Hollow Knight in general, but with a lot more focus on story, dark commentary, and borderline horror vibes. When I played it for the first time, it reminded me more of Castlevania titles, the side-scroller ones, which I was never really fond of either.

Now, with Silksong under my belt, I'm beginning to believe. Perhaps side-scroller metroidvanias hide something much better and much more fun than I first understood, and I'm now going to go on the path to uncover what exactly I have been sleeping on for all these years.

That is, once I'm done with Silksong, because looking away from it is proving to be a lot more difficult than I'd ever imagined.

Max in Life is Strange

Amazon continues its hectic schedule of scooping up gaming IP to adapt into TV series today, locking in a deal with Square Enix to adapt Life is Strange.

After confirming Sophie Turner as Lara Croft in its Tomb Raider series, Amazon MGM Studios has now greenlit the episodic narrative adventure series for an adaptation on Prime Video from showrunner Charlie Covell.

https://twitter.com/AmazonMGMStudio/status/1963995557673796088

Covell has previously worked on TV series Kaos and The End of the F*cking World, and will be working with Square Enix, Story Kitchen, and LuckyChap as producers to bring the game to a new medium.

"It's a huge honor to be adapting 'Life Is Strange' for Amazon MGM Studios," Covell said. "I am a massive fan of the game, and I'm thrilled to be working with the incredible teams at Square Enix, Story Kitchen and LuckyChap. I can't wait to share Max and Chloe's story with fellow players and new audiences alike."

The 2015 game spawned a few sequels and spin-offs, most recently Life is Strange: Double Exposure. It's got a fervent fanbase who found themselves attached to the characters within it, so as usual, adapting them will be a daunting task for those in charge. It's unclear what involvement, if any, developer Dontnod Entertainment will have in the show.

Life is Strange will join Tomb Raider, God of War, Mass Effect, and Warhammer as gaming IP series in development at Amazon. The second season of Fallout, meanwhile, will premiere later this year.

I've not played Life is Strange myself, but a friend of mine who's a mega fan said she hopes that "the dialogue better stay cringe as fuck." What say you, dear reader?

A player dressed as the queen of hearts in a black and red ballgown posing with a red and purple sunbird in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Finding and feeding the many critters that wander the village is an important task in Disney Dreamlight Valley. One of the trickiest types to feed are Sunbirds, which have the most complex favorite food system of them all.

Feeding critters their favorite foods is the only way to unlock them as permanent companions. It's also sometimes an essential task in Star Path events, so you need to know how to get it done. Here's how to feed Sunbirds in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

How to feed Sunbirds their favorite food in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Approaching a sunbird in DDV
Screenshot by Destructoid

You can approach Sunbirds to feed them their favorite food by simply walking up to them and selecting the "interact" button that appears once you're close to them. Most critters have a complex interaction process that requires a lot of work before you can feed them, but Sunbirds are simple and easy to approach. They're a lot trickier when it comes to what they like to eat, though.

What is Sunbirds' favorite food in Disney Dreamlight Valley?

All Sunbirds' favorite food is Flowers, but the exact type of Flowers they enjoy varies for each unique version of this critter. They generally enjoy Flowers that are the same color as their vibrant feathers, but all Sunbirds are quite colorful, so figuring out the right colors can be a bit tough.

Here are all of the Sunbirds' favorite foods for each unique version of this critter.

Sunbird Favorite food All favorites Liked food
Emerald Sunbird All green and yellow Flowers Green: Green Passion Lily and Green Rising Penstemon
Yellow: Dandelion, Goldenrod Eternal Poppies, Sunflower, Yellow Bromeliad, Yellow Daisy, Yellow Nasturtium, and Yellow Tale Cone Flowers.
All other flowers
Golden Sunbird All orange and yellow Flowers Orange: Orange & Red Marsh Milkweed, Orange Houseleek, Orange Marsh Milkweed, and Orange Nasturtium.
Yellow: Dandelion, Goldenrod Eternal Poppies, Sunflower, Yellow Bromeliad, Yellow Daisy, Yellow Nasturtium, Yellow Tale Cone Flowers.
All other flowers
Orchid Sunbird All pink and purple Flowers Pink: Pink Bromeliad, Pink Houseleek, Pink Hydrangea, and White & Pink Falling Penstemon.
Purple: Purple Bell Flower, Purple Falling Penstemon, Purple Hydrangea, Purple Impatiens, Purple Marsh Milkweed, and Purple Rising Penstemon.
All other flowers
Red Sunbird All blue and red Flowers Blue: Blue Falling Penstemon, Blue Glass-Like Flowers, Blue Hydrangea, Blue Luminescent Flower, Blue Marsh Milkweed, Blue Passion Lily, Blue Star Lily, Blue Tale Cone Flower, and Teal Eternal Poppies.
Red: Orange & Red Marsh Milkweed, Red Bell Flower, Red Bromeliad, Red Daisy, Red Falling Penstemon, Red Nasturtium, Red Passion Lily, Red Rose, and White & Red Hydrangea.
All other flowers
Turquoise Sunbird All green and pink Flowers Green: Green Passion Lily and Green Rising Penstemon.
Pink: Pink Bromeliad, Pink Houseleek, Pink Hydrangea, and White & Pink Falling Penstemon.
All other flowers

There are many other Flowers you can find around the valley, like Olive Tale Cone Flowers and Black Passion Lilies, but if they don't match the colors of the Sunbird, they won't be the critter's favorite food. All Flowers are liked gifts, but only those that fully match the Sunbirds' color scheme are considered their favorite.

Where to find Sunbirds in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Player in yellow ballgown looking at two flying sunbirds in disney dreamlight valley

All five Sunbirds can be found flying around the Sunlit Plateau biome in DDV. They're not always present, since Sunbirds have specific critter schedules, but there's always at least two of them flying around the area. They never venture into other biomes, so search around the entire region carefully if you're having trouble tracking them down.

Hornet jumping off a ledge in Hollow Knight Silksong

The Cling Grip skill in Hollow Knight Silksong is an advanced ability to unlock that allows you to Wall Jump, and it makes up for the absence of the Mantis Claw from the first game.

Obtaining this skill isn't going to be easy, and there are plenty of steps to complete. You'll have to upgrade your cloak to float mid-air and ride the updraft, which lets you enter Greymoor. Completing the Lost Flea quest will make it easier for you to reach Bellhart (thanks to the Fleamaster), and from there, we approach Shellwood to find our pursuit of the Cling Grip.

How to reach the Bench room in Shellwood

The first task is to enter Shellwood and reach the bench room at the location to save your progress.

  • From the first room, jump across the platforms floating on the water till you come across another platform hanging from a chain.
  • You'll find a ledge that's incredibly hard to reach. Take the lower ledge on your left, dash, and jump instantly to grab the ledge on the right.
  • From the higher ledge, travel upwards. Use your cloak's floating ability and dash. There are a few enemies that you can pogo jump on till you reach the entrance at the top left.
  • Once you reach the top, go past the purple flowers, avoid the enemies (or kill them), and head down the platforms. You'll find the exit that leads you to the bench room (as shown by Hornet's position on the map in this screenshot).

bench location in Shellwood in Hollow Knight Silksong
Screenshot by Destructoid

You'll come across a ledge that's out of your access. Drop down, and keep heading to your left. You'll get the option of creating a paid bench (you should) and using the elevator to ascend to the room.

How to reach the Cling Grip in Hollow Knight: Silksong

From here, we will be travelling to the east of Shellwood. To do that, drop down from the bench room and keep travelling to your left till you come across this location on the map. You'll find that one path is heading to the left, while the other is leading upwards; take the latter.

Shellwood location in Hollow Knight Silksong

  • As you keep heading upwards, the goal is to get as high as possible, and head towards your right.
  • On the way, you'll find a few weak enemies, but it's the terrain that you should be more careful about.
  • You'll have to jump on the white flowers, but be careful not to fall as there are thorns across major areas of the way. You can easily dodge the enemies if required.
  • The path is pretty linear as there are no multiple paths along the way. You reach as high as possible, travel on the map, and keep heading to the east.
  • The pattern follows until you reach a ledge with a hanging elevator (different from the first one). Go to the next room, follow east till you reach the end. Use the platforms you find to go top, and now, we go left.
  • The next room will have the Sister Splinter boss waiting for us. This boss is unavoidable, and you'll have to dispatch it efficiently.

Sister Splinter location in Hollow Knight Silksong
Screenshot by Destructoid

After defeating Sister Splinter, the rest of the path is easy.

  • Go left and drop down. Keep going left till you hit the wall, and now travel up. The general movement will be towards the left till you reach a room with the lake. Go past it, finish the enemies you come across, as the path then turns right.
  • Use the white flowers to jump between two massive ledges as you reach the final room. This is where you find the idol and get the Wall Climb, aka Cling Grip, in Hollow Knight Silksong.

Bell Beast locked behind cobwebs in Hollow Knight Silksong

The general difficulty of Hollow Knight Silksong's boss battles scales up fairly quickly, and the Bell Beast will be your first complex challenge to clear.

Located in Mosshome, the Bell Beast has plenty of health, requires multiple hits, and you'll have to master the ability to dodge. Everything sounds easy, but the actual act of defeating this monster is a challenging task. This guide will note down all the steps and help you ace the challenge.

Hollow Knight Silksong Bell Beast fight explained

The Bell Beast is located to the right of where you enter Mosshome. At first, it's blocked by a few cobwebs. To clear these cobwebs, you'll need to unlock the Skillspear ability. This is the first ability that you can get in Hollow Knight Silksong, and it's essential to progress further (which includes defeating the Bell Beast).

The entire fight with the Bell Beast can be broken down into three key phases.

Bell Beast attacking the player in Hollow Knight Silksong
Screenshot by Destructoid

Phase 1

In the first phase, the Bell Beast has two types of attack. When it appears from the ground, the beast creates a dust cloud. If the dust cloud is small, it will charge at you on the ground. Long-press your jump button to avoid the charge, and you can even land a down attack when in the air.

If the dust cloud is larger and the Bell Beast gives out a battle cry, it will use jumps to body slam you. The safest area during the attack is to be under the boss, and continue to do so until it pauses briefly before going underground. Use this time to get multiple hits in. Once you have chipped away enough health, the second phase begins.

Phase 2

In the second phase, the Bell Beast can throw a couple of bells at you, in either direction. This attack can happen twice in a row, so be prepared. The trick is to stay close to the wall and jump over the bell that's rolling towards you. If the bell hits, you'll lose two health.

Phase 3

The final phase makes the Bell Beast go berserk as it uses its cry to make multiple bells fall from the ceiling. Stay to the edge of the arena wall, and use your jump to dodge the few coming your way. While there are no new attacks, you'll have to dodge plenty of bells falling from the sky. Wait for your turn to land attacks to do damage, as you'll have to avoid taking damage from the Bell Beast and the bells simultaneously.

Once you avoid the bells and deal enough damage to the Bell Beast, you'll have defeated another demanding boss.

If any changes or delays occur, we'll provide an update here, so check back leading up to release to ensure you're ready to start playing at the right time.

The Adventure Awaits expansion pack primarily focuses on adding new experiences for Sims to enjoy while on Getaways, a new type of vacation system. There's a big emphasis on child Sims, but there's also lots of content for all ages.

  • Getaway system – Sims can now choose to embark on a Getaway, which means you can travel to unique locations made by you, other Simmers, or the Sims team, create schedules packed with activities, or take it easy, and ultimately enjoy whatever kind of trip you want. You can send them to the Love Highland Getaway to have them participate in a dating reality competition, visit Camp Gibbi Gibbi Getaway to have some fun in the wilderness, have them simply relax at the Revive & Thrive Getaway, create your own Getaway lot for a cooking competition, or just about anything else you can think of.
  • New skills – There are four fresh skills to master in this pack, including Papercraft, Archery, Diving, and Entomology.
  • New activities – This pack has many new activities your Sims can engage in, including panning, butterfly catching, diving, paper crafts, smoothie making, playing hide-and-seek, rock, paper, scissors, and archery.
  • Imaginary Friends – The terrifying yet lovable beings from The Sims 3 Generations are back, with four personalities to choose from, including goofball, creative, competitive, and evil.

  • Customizable playground – A full set of modular playground pieces is featured in this pack, allowing you to fully customize your ideal layout.
  • New world – Gibbi Point is the world included in this pack, and it features three new neighborhoods to explore. These areas are Wanderwood Wilds, Jellyfish Junction, and Crystal Valley. There's plenty to find around all three regions, including geysers, moonlight jellyfish, and a mysterious local Plumbird.
  • Challenge modifiers – Can be applied to Getaway lots to create special rules. The romance competition elimination, for example, essentially allows you to host your own romance reality show. Other modifiers we've seen so far include cooking competition, creative skills contest elimination, activity shuffle, player choice elimination, and everyone hates each other.
  • New items – There are plenty of other items you can interact with in this pack, including blenders, kayaks, free weights, waterslides, spin bikes, a retro gaming console, diving boards, and archery stands.

If you want to learn more about this pack, you may want to review all new items and features in Adventure Awaits. There's also plenty to keep you busy while you wait for this expansion to drop, including getting Magic Beans, working through the tricky Not Mushroom for Error Fable, and becoming a Fairy.

Fleamaster in Hollow Knight Silksong

The Lost Fleas quest requires you to find five Fleas in Hollow Knight Silksong, and they're spread all across Pharloom.

Finding them can be slightly tricky, as they're all located away from the path you follow to complete the main story. We'll provide you with all five locations, though, allowing you to track their whereabouts. I have sequenced them in the order I found them, but you can adjust it based on your requirements (and yes, there are more than five).

All five lost Flea locations in Hollow Knight Silksong

First, you'll need to speak with the Fleamaster, who is located in The Marrow. While he tells you about the missing Fleas, he also offers you a bench to rest by the caravan. Let's take a look at the missing locations of where you can find the five Fleas.

Flea Number Location Where to Find
Flea #1 The Marrow The first Flea is located in the upper chambers of the Marrow. Travel upwards from the Fleamaster's location, and you'll reach a point where the path breaks. If you go left, you will find Shakra and the route to Mosshome. Go up using the platforms; there is a fair number of enemies along this route, so be careful. Use the platforms on the left before jumping to the right, where you'll find the missing Flea.
Flea #2 Deep Docks This Flea is rather easy to find because it's along the path of where you unlock the Dash ability. Go left from where you get Dash by platforming and go to the upper parts of the chamber.
Flea #3 Deep Docks From my location, go left and jump over the bug. Break the wall, and you'll open a chamber filled with lava. Use the platforms to go left and then upwards. There will be a few flying enemies, and you also need to be careful of the lava. Make your way to the right on the highest platform to find your missing Flea.
Flea #4 Hunter's March If you have defeated Skarrguard at the entrance, the job will be easier. Go inside, pogo jump on the buds upwards to find the Lost Flea. The track is relatively simple to follow, as you'll have to keep on the path that keeps going upwards.
Flea #5 Far Fields You'll have to access the Hidden room in the Far Fields region, located to the extreme right. The room will be blocked by a wall that needs to be broken in order to enter the chamber. You'll find a Skarr Scout at this location, along with some obnoxious traps.
Flea #6 Grey Moor If you have defeated Skarrguard at the entrance, the job will be easier. Go inside, pogo jump on the buds upwards to find the Lost Flea. The track is relatively simple to follow, as you'll have to keep on the path that keeps going upwards.

For your benefit, I have attached the screenshots of the map locations so that you can reach exactly where you need to be.

Standing by a crafting station covered in paint in disney dreamlight valley

Star Path events feature many tricky tasks that can be tough to navigate through in Disney Dreamlight Valley. One of the many quests you'll come across and need to complete asks you to craft a potion you can really dig.

All you're given to go off is this fairly vague hint, so it can be a bit tricky to determine what needs to be done for this mission. It's a fairly easy one to tackle once you understand what's being asked, so here's how to craft a potion you can really dig in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

A potion you can really dig in DDV is Miracle Shovel Varnish and Even More Miraculous Shovel Varnish. Both of these items can be used to give your Royal Shovel a useful boost that increases your drops from digging while it's active. Here are the recipes to make each item.

Item Recipe Uses
Miracle Shovel Varnish 10 Vitalys Crystals
10 Dry Wood
500 Dreamlight
10 dig spots
Even More Miraculous Shovel Varnish 20 Vitalys Crystals
20 Dry Wood
1,000 Dreamlight
25 dig spots

To craft both of these potions, you first need to acquire the three materials needed to make them. These potions are made with Vitalys Crystal, Dry Wood, and Dreamlight, which are three decently tricky items to acquire.

  • Vitalys Crystal can be obtained by mining rock nodes around the Vitalys Mine. This secret area can be found at the end of the river that runs right through the middle of the Sunlit Plateau biome.
  • Dry Wood can be foraged from the ground around trees in the Sunlit Plateau, Forgotten Lands, and Frosted Heights biomes. It can also sometimes be bought from Kristoff's stall for 25 Star Coins.
  • Dreamlight is primarily obtained by finishing Dreamlight duties. You can also craft it using Dream Shards.

To complete the craft a potion you can really dig task for the Retro Roadtrip Star Path event, you need to craft one Miracle Shovel Varnish or Even More Miraculous Shovel Varnish. Both versions of this potion count for the task, so you can make whichever one you prefer.

This item can be found in the Potion & Enchantment category at any crafting station. It's both of the yellow potions, so make sure you select the right one since there are many different potions you can create on this page. None of the other available potions apply to digging, so they won't count for this mission.

Completing this task gets you 25 Tokens to spend in the event. It's a decent reward, and the most you can get from finishing any regular Star Path task, but you'll likely need a bit more to purchase most of the prizes. If you do want to claim some more Tokens, consider working on some other missions next, like cooking a fairly fancy appetizerdigging for pottery materialcollecting some shoreline shellfish, and crafting any refinement item.

Hollow Knight: Silksong - Hornet enters a room with the boss called the Fourth Chorus

If, like many others, you're currently exploring the dangerous depths of Hollow Knight: Silksong, you'll eventually come across the intimidating boss named Fourth Chorus. Appearing fairly early in the game, located in the Far Fields, this mechanical menace offers one of the biggest upticks in challenge during those early hours.

So, if you're having trouble beating this aggravated automaton, we've got everything you need to know with our full guide.

First up, be aware that the bottom area of the level is lava, which will hurt you, and any of Fourth Chorus' downward attacks have a chance to destroy the platform you can stand on. Watch out for that platform disappearing, and remember to use the Drifter's Cloak to buy yourself time when descending from a jump. Importantly, you need to hit Fourth Chorus in the head to do any damage.

Secondly, be sure to pay attention to the light that comes from the Fourth Chorus' hands. These indicate how it's about to attack. If it glows when a hand is high above, it's about to slam an attack down to the ground, so sidestep, then jump up and attack its face.

If its hand glows off to either side, it is about to do a large sweeping attack in the opposite direction, so jump over as it comes your way. If you have the time, try and strike upwards at Fourth Chorus' head as you jump over this sweeping attack.

Once you manage to hit it a few times, while avoiding these main hand attacks, eventually Fourth Chorus will cause lava rocks to fall from the ceiling. Use the dust trail that falls to anticipate where the lava will drop, and sidestep. Once again, use any opportunity you can to hit Fourth Chorus in the face, while avoiding the falling hazards.

Eventually, when you have done enough damage, you will cause Fourth Chorus to fall forward with its head on the ground. This is a moment where you have some time to plan, so if you're low on health, then use this time to Bind and recover. However, if you're doing great, then just get a few extra licks in while the boss is vulnerable.

Repeat this process over and over until eventually the platforms you have been walking on will become more unstable. At the same time, two updrafts will become visible on either side. You are entering the end of the fight, so be particularly careful.

While avoiding the attacks from Fourth Chorus, jump on over to one of the two updrafts, and use your Drifter's Cloak to ascend to the top of the screen. Here you will see explosive rocks embedded in the ceiling, so be sure to knock them down.

Once you do one side, repeat this same task on the other side, and you will knock down a huge rock that eventually incapacitates Fourth Chorus for good. Pull off all this successfully, and you will have defeated Fourth Chorus. Congratulations! Sadly, there are many more difficult bosses up ahead.
