CD Projekt have rolled out a fresh Cyberpunk 2077 patch with fixes and tweaks for some of update 2.3's additions. The most noteworthy is what sounds like a pretty hefty revamp of how the autodrive function goes about conveying your ride from A to B.

If you missed it arriving back in July, update 2.3 was the final set of new stuff CD Projekt plan to add to the first Cyberpunk, a game they've been physically unable to stop themselves from delving back into over the past couple of years, despite Cyberpunk 2 having been in the works for a little while now. To be fair, most of its contents were vehicle and photo mode-related, with the autodrive function and similar Delamain taxi system heaflining alongside some new rides.

One of my favourite pieces of internet television last year was Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, a Netflix anime series that pretends to be just another adaption of Bryan Lee O'Malley's graphic novels before, rather brilliantly, pirouetting into a warm and sincere (but not overly self-flagellating) study of the original story's tropeyness. One of the beneficiaries is Pilgrim himself, who's forced to confront his own immaturity and entitlement: a reckoning that, one suspects, mirrors that of O'Malley himself, not to mention lapsed fans (hello) whose ability to parse these faults needed time to develop.

It's a growing-up that continues in Scott Pilgrim EX, the 2026-bound sidescrolling action brawler from Tribute Games (a studio packed with devs who worked on Ubisoft's Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World: The Game). While not a direct continuation of Takes Off, it's apparently set not that long afterwards, and sees the new, more likable Scott teaming up with friends and foes to biff around demons and fitness bros on the streets of Toronto. I played about thirty minutes at Gamescom, and compared to Ubi's 2010 beat 'em up, EX appears to have done some maturing of its own.

Review: Super Robot Wars Y Can Feel Like More of a Challenge

Super Robot Wars is one of those series that I love even if the actual stages aren't great and line-ups aren't ideal. I love the interactions and potential for silliness when all these series are dumped into the same pot. (It's one of the reasons why games like Project X Zone are so much fun too!) Thankfully, Super Robot Wars Y isn't an installment carried by the notion that "Hey, isn't it funny when Bandai Namco forced Gauma from SSSS.Dynazenon to interact with Getter Robo Arc characters like Takuma and Baku?" While we are seeing some reused assets and I wish the UI was clearer, it features silly situations and some genuinely difficult stages.

Super Robot Wars Y seems to begin with another conflict on the verge of happening. It looks like the Earthnoids, under Lelouch vi Britannia (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection), might be pressured into another fight with Spacenoids potentially uniting under Char Aznable (Gundam: Char's Counterattack). Except on the day Lelouch is going to be inaugurated as First Emperor of Earth, all of the crossover folks watch as he's assassinated. Everyone basically decides, "Okay, that's enough." The New Earth Federation acknowledged the space colonies, and things seem okay. Seem being the keyword. On her fourteenth birthday, Echika Y Franburnett gets one of the player avatar NINJAs as her new bodyguard and learns that Yagami City, which her father founded, and Ayanashi City are actually part of the A. Advent emigration fleet ship. It's being targeted by foes like Logos, and it becomes our mission to once again fight back against enemies alongside characters from many, many different anime mech series.

Progression in Super Robot Wars Y is identical to past entries. We go through a mission, which usually involves wiping out all enemies. We can select Spirits abilities to assist and enhance our characters. Depending on things like proximity, ammo, and energy, different attacks at different ranges and strengths are possible. The Assist Link feature involves additional Assist Crew characters to offer active and passive effects. Units are deployed and move on a grid. All of our units move. When our turn ends, the enemy turn begins. When a foe initiates a fight, we can choose the response method. There are also various options to speed things up to keep things moving at a lively pace. After a battle is done, we can adjust equipment, shop, adjust assists, build up characters, go through the skill tree to apply enhancements to our squad, and see story-based segments.

It's the sort of situation where if it isn't broke, don't fix it. Things work well, and battles move at a good clip. While I would say the overall story is generally fine, the interactions between characters from different series remains fantastic and fun. It's great to watch people interact, and I also loved the introductions to characters from series I wasn't familiar with in the game. They're handled really well, and I think I am going to end up watching SSSS. Dynazenon because of this title. There can be some fun moments, and I felt like it was more challenging than Super Robot Wars 30 at times. However, it definitely does pull ideas and concepts from that installment, with some assets looking like they came from there, the auto-battle option, us getting to select our next missions, and the DLC series.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgYi233lr74

Speaking of series, I'm generally pretty pleased with the choices Bandai Namco made for Super Robot Wars Y. I do miss Magic Knight Rayearth, since I'm a huge CLAMP fan. SSSS.Dynazenon fits in very well. Gundam and Code Geass are always great, though I'm disappointed only The Witch from Mercury season one is represented. Godzilla Singular Point is an absolute thrill, and I'm excited by the prospect of DLC series like The Big O and Fuuto PI: The Portrait of Kamen Rider Skull

But what I'm not pleased by is the UI. It's so bad that it almost feels a bit lazy. The main menus look like something I'd see in a mobile game I'm playing. When you get into the Customization section or start looking up characters, there are so many details crammed into each page in some areas that it can be difficult to parse until you get accustomed to things. It doesn't look good and, in some ways, isn't user-friendly, which is a bad combination!

While I wish it looked better at times, Super Robot Wars Y gets a lot of things right and can offer a substantial challenge. There are some stages that will involve actually thinking about unit placement to ensure you handle all those foes and keep from being wiped out. It can look dated sometimes though, as some assets look familiar, and the UI is pretty bad. I'm also personally sad that Magic Knight Rayearth didn't return and that we don't see all of Gundam: The Witch from Mercury represented. While I did like some elements of Super Robot Wars 30 a little more, this is definitely another enjoyable entry in the series.

Super Robot Wars Y is available for the Switch, PS5, and PC

Four shots of gibbi point world in the sims 4, including a geyser, a camp with butterfly catching, a moon jelly area, and sims panning for gold

One of the most exciting features included in The Sims 4 expansion packs is new worlds. Having more locations to live around and explore is always welcome, and Adventure Awaits has an absolutely gorgeous one called Gibbi Point.

As exciting as fresh new areas are, they can also be a bit overwhelming since they come with many unfamiliar lots and hidden secrets to uncover. To ensure you're making the most of your time in this region, here's a complete breakdown of the Gibbi Point world map in The Sims 4 Adventure Awaits, including all lots, neighborhoods, and other key details to know about this town.

The Sims 4 Gibbi Point map overview

Gibbi Point map in the sims 4 adventure awaits
Screenshot by Destructoid

The world of Gibbi Point in the Adventure Awaits expansion pack is a vast new land "bursting with play, discovery, and adventure at every turn," according to the official Adventure Awaits reveal blog post. Although you can live here year-round, it's primarily designed to be a Getaway destination packed with loads of activities to enjoy, gorgeous sights to see, and plenty to explore.

Long ago, a massive wave washed across Gibbi Point, resulting in the lush, verdant landscape it now has. It's now home to many new creatures, like Plumbirds, jellyfish, and glow worms. This region also has many unique landmarks you can visit, including an active geyser, crystal caves, and a bioluminescent bay.

All The Sims 4 Gibbi Point neighborhoods and lots

Gibbi Point has three neighborhoods with a total of 13 lots you can visit. This world feels a lot bigger than this, though, as there are plenty of other spots to visit outside of these lots, like the geyser and the lighthouse. As more details are shared about this world, we'll add them here.

Wanderwood Wilds

A geyser in the sims 4

The Wanderwood Wilds area is a lush forest with plenty to do and see, including four unique lots you can visit. All of the lots you can find in this area are as follows.

  • 40x40 lot – A large outdoor playground lot called Plumbird Park.
  • 50x50 lot – The Camp Gibbi Gibbi Getaway destination lot, a location your Sims can visit to enjoy a log cabin camping experience.
  • 64x64 lot – An empty lot.
  • 30x20 lot – A residential lot home to some townies.

Other important features you can find around this area are the active Hothead Rock Geyser and the Old Firewatch Tower. There's also a local Butterfly Conservationist you can check in with, a 'Round the Fire Festival event you can attend, and plenty of open water for kayaking.

Jellyfish Junction

The Jellyfish Junction area is a tourist hotspot, with a more artistic vibe that attracts many creatives to this neighborhood. There's plenty of water to kayak in, and four lots you can explore.

  • 40x30 lot – A residential lot.
  • 40x30 lot – The Jellyfish Jubilee residential rental lot your Sims can book and stay in.
  • 30x20 lot – The Fletcher's Cottage residential lot, which is home to some townies.
  • 64x64 lot – The Revive & Thrive Getaway destination lot, a location your Sims can visit and stay at to relax, recharge, and work on self-improvement.

Around this region, you can visit the This or That Shop, Lonely Lighthouse, Fletcher's Point, and Underlight Bay. The Fitness Fest and Glow and Flow Festivals take place in this neighborhood, and you can also check in with the local Storyteller, Toshie, for some special Gibbi Point adventure quests.

Crystal Valley

Crystal Valley was a bustling, lively gold mining community until the Scoop's Gold Mine dried up overnight. Now, it's a more laid-back area with some stunning sights to see. There are five unique lots you can venture to around this neighborhood.

  • 40x30 lot – An empty lot.
  • 50x50 lot – The Love Highland Getaway destination lot, a location your
  • 30x20 lot – The Miner's Manse empty residential lot.
  • 30x20 lot – The Crystal Cottage residential lot.
  • 20x20 lot – The Fearful Fish lounge lot.

Although it's not quite as common as it once was, you can still go panning for gold around this area, unlocking a fun new activity for your Sims to enjoy. The Electric Lagoon is a must-see spot in Crystal Valley, with a gorgeous cave lit up by jellyfish. The Stop n' Know Center has all the details you might want to discover more about this area, and you can also check out the Sunrise, Sunset Festival while exploring.

If you want to learn more about aspects of this expansion pack you might not be familiar with, consider checking out all the new items and features in Adventure Awaits.

racket rivals spirits awakenings rackets tier list and guide

I'll show you the best Rackets, Spirits and Awakenings in Racket Rivals for 1v1s, 2v2s and 3v3s. Note that I gave a slight edge to how good they are for 2v2s and 3v3s but when a Spirit or Awakening is really strong for 1v1s I'll mention it. Let's rank them all in this Racket Rivals Spirit, Awakening and Racket tier list and guide.

Racket Rivals Spirit and Awakening Tier List

racket rivals spirit and awakening tier list

First I'll talk about the best Spirits and Awakenings in Racket Rivals. I'll be using the classic tiers but I'll also rate them from left to right from stronger to slightly weaker within each tier. In this game, lower rarity doesn't mean weaker option since a lot of the power options are actually the 3-Stars. Below I'll go into all Spirits and Awakenings individually but for now here's what each tier means:

  • S-Tier: The most powerful and overall most useful Spirits and Awakenings in Rocket Rivals.
  • A-Tier: Excellent secondary options that can be just as powerful as S but require more set-up.
  • B-Tier: Are still decent alternative options, they're just more situational and based on either play style or if you find them more fun than higher-power abilities.
  • C-Tier: Is for absolute mid options that aren't "never-use" but are drastically underpowered compared to the ones above
  • D-Tier: Are trash options you should never use but currently there aren't any like this.

S-Tier

S-Tier Rankings Ability/Effect Why S-Tier

Gomu
3-Star
Spirit
Freeze: Freeze the ball in place regardless of position until someone hits it or the freeze effect runs out.

Level Upgrades
Level 2: Freezes duration increase
Level 3: Reduces the cooldown
Level 4: Freeze duration increase
Level 5: Reduces the cooldown

• Easily the best Spirit in Racket Rivals because it can be used both offensively and defensively
• You can save yourself or your team from shots that are impossible or really hard to block
• You basically just stop the game and then can line up a perfect counterattack shot
• Just make sure not to spam it and only use it when you can't block the ball
• For offense it's best used to confuse your enemies with the ball's trajectory or timing

Captain Salute
3-Star
Awakening
Place down a flag on your side of the court that buffs the movement speed of your entire team. • Widely the most useful Awakening in Racket Rivals for your team but not best in 1v1s
• It just makes your entire team better allowing you to reach spots on the court to block better or counterattack
• The more people on your team the better it is
• Always good, you can spam it

Jin
5-Star
Spirit (Early Access/P2W)
Astral Set: Pulls the ball towards you and sets it for you.

Level Upgrades
Level 2: The ball pull is faster
Level 3: Sets the ball higher for you
Level 4: Reduces the cooldown
Level 5: The ball pull is even faster

• Really powerful for switching up attack timings or defensively
• Wherever the ball is it will be pulled to you
• Can be used like the Freeze defensively but also has a lot more offensive potential
• The only problem is randoms in public games that don't react well to your Astral Set and can actually miss and score a point for the enemy
• So this is much better in an organized team

A-Tier

A-Tier Rankings Ability/Effect Why A-Tier

Ground Slam
3-Star
Awakening
Opposite of Captain Salute where you summon rocks on the enemy court that slow them down. • Ground Slam is quite powerful to hinder the enemy team
• That said it's not as OP spammable as Captain Salute because you have to look for moments when to use it
• Don't spam it but use it when you or your team smashes a ball on the opposite side of where the enemies are to make it impossible to reach it
• In these scenarios the enemy will probably just Freeze but you are applying pressure nonetheless
• It's really great for 1v1s too because there are less people to spread around the field

Hinari
4-Star
Spirit
Overheat: You set the ball on fire and while it is on fire the enemy team can't hit it unless they set it first to put out the fire.

Level Upgrades
Level 2: Longer effect
Level 3: Lowers the cooldown
Level 4: Longer effect
Level 5: Lowers the cooldown

• Hinari is OP in 1v1s but is also quite useful in 2v2s and 3v3s
• His ability basically scores a free point if the enemy Set is on cooldown so always keep track of when the enemy uses Set then use Overheat
• Obviously in 3v3s the enemy team will always have a spare set and can organize to block you but in public games this is harder since teams aren't coordinated
• It's in A against skilled players but S against randoms who don't know what they're doing

Gazo
5-Star
Spirit
Time Control: Slows down time for a short duration

Level Upgrades
Level 2: The slowing effect is even slower
Level 3: The effect lasts longer
Level 4: Another boost to the slowing effect
Level 5: Even longer effect duration

• A weaker version of Freeze but still useful since you can still position better for defense and offense during the slow

Wall Portals
5-Star
Awakening
While active the walls can be used as portals to send the ball to the enemy team's court. • It isn't bad as people say, you just have to learn to play around the portals
• Send the ball through the portals low so that it's difficult to return it when it teleports
• Wait for the ball to almost hit the ground then hit it towards a wall to teleport it

B-Tier

B-Tier Rankings Ability/Effect Why B-Tier

Senshu
3-Star
Spirit
Defensive Bomb: Place down an AOE sphere zone that automatically sets/repels any balls that hit it

Level Upgrades
Level 2: Increases the size of the zone
Level 3: The zone lasts longer
Level 4: Shorter cooldown
Level 5: Further increases the size of the zone

• Senshu is A in competitive games but for overall play in public games it got weaker since the fix where you can't send your opponent's ball outside of the court without hitting it
• They made it count as a touch for your team
• That said it's still really good defensively, especially when you use it close to the net, have it block and then spike the ball to where there are no blockers

Kyoki
4-Star
Spirit
Blindfold: Send out a smoke orb that applies a blinding effect on the enemy

Level Upgrades
Level 2: The smoke orb travels faster
Level 3: The blinding effect lasts longer
Level 4: Shorter cooldown
Level 5: The smoke orb travels even faster

• Kyoki also has A potential but overall people are learning how to play with the blinded effect since you can still guess the balls position
• You basically have to set it up so that the enemy is blinded before you hit the ball to them so that they can't see where to block
• Just be careful since the visual effect on blinded enemies is bugged so even if you think they're blinded they might not be
• It's a fun and useful ability, just not as OP as widely useful as other Spirits but it's better for 1v1s

Curve Shot
4-Star
Awakening
Your shots curve the ball to its maximum making it difficult to predict for blockers. • Curve Shot is becoming quite predictable as people get used to it so that's why I put it in B-Tier
• Still, it has its uses to shoot the ball where there are no blockers to confuse enemies or dominate 1v1s
• You should look for openings on the enemy court and then curve to that position
• It's just that in 2v2 and 3v3 where people are spread out, it's not that hard to block

C-Tier

C-Tier Rankings Ability/Effect Why C-Tier

Aimbot
4-Star
Awakening
The AI of the game determines where your ball will go. In theory it sends it to the best possible side of the enemy court where there are no defenders. • In practice, this ability is broken and it constantly sends the ball to the wrong place in the court that's not that hard to block
• Freeze always counters it but even in general, you can reach the ball with a dash
• Needs a buff and currently it's the worst Awakening in Racket Rivals

Gojin
3-Star
Spirit
Void Run: Become invisible and run faster for a brief duration

Level Upgrades
Level 2: Run even faster during the invisibility effect
Level 3: Shorter cooldown
Level 4: The effect lasts longer
Level 5: Run even faster during the effect

• This isn't a bad ability it's just that in 3v3s you're not getting much out of it besides the speed boost
• It's better in 1v1s to confuse opponents and make it difficult for them to block your shots but even in this situation it's manageable to play against due to Freezes and Dashes
• Not as bad as Aimbot but needs a buff

Racket Rivals Racket Tier List

The best rackets in Racket Rivals are the Smash rackets, especially Soul Smash and Dragon's Breath for P2W and Infernis Smash for F2P. This is because they have the best Power or Speed which is crucial for spiking balls and scoring points along with either great Dashes or Jumps. The Spin rackets just fail to compete offensively in 3v3s since their Spin curve shots are easily blocked by a widespread team playing smart. Below I've rated the top 5 rackets in Racket Rivals, other than those, go for Rares and then Legendaries that have the best Power/Speed stats comboed with good Dashes. For beginners I recommend Gomu's Racket.

Best Rackets in Racket Rivals

Top 5 Rackets Stats Ranking Reason

1. Soul Smash (Vault Banner)
• Movement: 5
• Dash: 6-10
• Jump: 4-6
• Power: 6-10
• Speed: 2
• Reach: 3
• Spin: 2
• The best racket in the game for smashing the ball down and scoring points
• Best used with the Set tech where you set the ball for yourself in 1v1s and then jump and instantly spike it (It takes some practice)
• It's also amazing in 2v2s and 3v3s with the best Dashing length and speed and the best power in the entire game
• It's a Vault so it's hard to get but the stats speak for themselves

2. Dragon's Breath (Vault Banner)
• Movement: 2-3
• Dash: 5-8
• Jump: 4
• Power: 3
• Speed: 6-10
• Reach: 4-5
• Spin: 2-5
• An excellent alternative to the Soul Smash since it's also fast due to the super quick dashes
• It trades power for speed so the ball will travel incredibly fast when you spike it
• Both are the best rackets for 1v1s, 2v2s and 3v3s

3. Infernis Smash (Standard Banner)
• Movement: 2-3
• Dash: 4-5
• Jump: 5-7
• Power: 6-8
• Speed: 3-5
• Reach: 1
• Spin: 1-3
• Infernis Smash is the best F2P racket in the game
• It offers the power of Soul Smash with decent speed and great jumps
• If you see it on a banner go all out on it if you don't want to spend Robux

4. Divine Spin (Limited Banner)
• Movement: 3-4
• Dash: 5
• Jump: 5-9
• Power: 4
• Speed: 3-4
• Reach: 3-4
• Spin: 5-9
• I personally wouldn't go for Spin Rackets since the curve shots are blocked easily in 3v3s where the players cover the field defensively
• That said for 1v1s and 2v2s this can be a powerful racket if you know to how to curve well
• Still, it struggles with power and speed but it does have the best jumps in the game to set up spikes and defensive blocks

5. Saber Spin (Standard Banner)
• Movement: 4-6
• Dash: 4-9
• Jump: 3-4
• Power: 1
• Speed: 3
• Reach: 4
• Spin: 3-5
• Basically Divine Spin but instead of jumps you get some of the best dashes in the game
• This is great for defense when your team needs a fast blocker or someone to pick up and set loose balls

Promotional artwork for Hollow Knight Silksong shows Hornet against a gloomy background

It's hard to believe it has already been a week since Hollow Knight Silksong launched on multiple systems, crashing storefronts in the process and breaking records across the globe, but now I think it is time for reflection on the game.

In a week of playing, I sadly haven't gotten as far as I'd like. I won't go into spoilers for anyone holding off for the game. Still, if I say I got the Reaper Crest and then got hunkered down with work, I think a vast majority of players will know what point I am at and the boss that I need to find the time to muscle memory my way through when I return.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XGeJwsUP9c

But my slow progress got me thinking. Where is everyone else at with the game so far, considering its difficulty? Have you beaten the game? 100% completed it? Maybe you're taking on the permadeath mode like some kind of masochist? I'm curious to know where everyone is at, but please try to keep story spoilers to a minimum here, where possible, for those who are still looking to pick up and play sometime in the future.

I myself will probably buy the game on Switch 2 once a physical version is available and restart my progress there, as it'll be easier for me to play on the go than to continue playing on PC. I feel like I could speedrun back to my current point without needing to buy maps, and use the knowledge of what Simple Keys are for to get anything I might have missed beforehand as well.

But enough talk, let me know in the comments where you are at and why. Are you struggling to take down a boss? Are you not able to make it to Act 3? Are you taking your time? Let's talk shop and see where your Hornet is current at on their adventure!

Secret area in Far Fields in Hollow Knight Silksong

There are plenty of secrets to uncover in Hollow Knight: Silksong, but one particular secret in the bottom right of Far Fields is causing many people a headache.

If you can make your way through, though, you'll earn yourself a power-up that makes traversal much easier throughout your Pharloom adventure.

How to enter the Secret Area in Hollow Knight: Silksong's Far Fields

First of all, head to the area marked in the screenshot above, down in the bottom right of Far Fields. Once you find a large door, you are in the right spot. To open this door, you need to acquire and then play the Needolin item (this can be found in Bellhart). Playing this instrument opens the door, but you're not quite done yet.

Walking through the door reveals the location known as Weavenest Cindril, so move forward and sit on the bench. Moving further to the right will reveal a long corridor and columns that light up when you run by them.

Hollow Knight: Silksong - a menu shows the tool called the Silkspeed Anklets

To unlock an item at the end of this corridor, you must sprint full speed from the left to the right. Doing so will light up all of the columns and reveal a podium with the tool called the Silkspeed Anklets. Great, so we're done here, right? Nope, not yet.

Once you have the Silkspeed Anklets, you need another item known as the Flea Brew, which you get by completing the Wish called "The Lost Fleas" after finding five fleas lost across Pharloom, and then returning to the Flea Caravan. Upon returning all five fleas, travel with the caravan to Greymoor, and you will be rewarded with the Flea Brew.

Hollow Knight: Silksong - Hornet runs through a hidden area

Upon doing this, return to the hidden area in Far Fields called Weavenest Cindril. Sit on the bench, and equip both the Silkspeed Anklets and the Flea Brew. Then, use the Flea Brew to enhance your speed while you have the Silkspeed Anklets equipped for the maximum possible speed.

Now, run from the left of the room to the right again, triggering the columns. This time, your increased speed will open an additional secret room below where the podium was originally.

There we go: that's everything you need to know about Weavenest Cindril, the secret area in Hollow Knight: Silksong's Far Fields area.

Borderlands 4 Vault Hunters

Six years between Borderlands games may have been exactly what the franchise needed to reinvent and reinvigorate itself. After many (myself included) felt disappointed by Borderlands 3 for a variety of reasons, the iconic looter shooter series is back with vastly improved gameplay, a darker tone, and a whole new world to explore in Borderlands 4.

Hampered by a few very minor setbacks and worrisome PC performance in the pre-release build, this could still easily be remembered as the best Borderlands game ever made with some well-executed updates and post-launch support.

It just feels so good

Borderlands 4 combat screenshot

Borderlands 4 sets a new benchmark for core gameplay in the franchise. I can't express enough how fun BL4 is to play, at a base level, and it's far and away the best the series has ever had to offer. New movement tech includes gliding, double-jumping, sliding, dashing front to back or side to side à la DOOM, and ziplining to traverse the battlefield, all while raining hell on a variety of foes.

It's addictive and refined, and the main reason I will keep coming back to the game, in both co-op and solo play. It all just feels so good to play. The guns, the movement, and the action skills all work together in harmony to create the most fluid and exciting core gameplay loop that the series has ever seen.

Players choose from four unique playable Vault Hunters–Vex, Harlowe, Amon, and Rafa (my pick for my first journey)–and customize their skills as they level up and pick their builds, which now have more flexibility than ever. Utilizing the different characters, abilities, weapons, class mods, grenades, and other loadout options, you can truly craft the playstyle and experience you want with what feels like endless possibilities. And when it comes to being truly "endless," that's also how it feels when chasing down different weapon rolls.

Weapons in BL4 can roll with unique perks and traits, but also borrow characteristics from other weapon manufacturers. Borderlands fans will remember such names as Tediore, Maliwan, and Torgue, all offering different styles. A few new manufacturers join the fray, too, creating an RNG bonanza where your weapon will either be overpowered and ridiculous or borderline useless. And that's where a lot of the fun comes into play for a game in this genre.

There's potential for countless hours of farming specific weapons and rolls, and it's now easier than ever to target-farm certain guns dropped by bosses with the ability to replay boss fights to your heart's content until you get what you're looking for.

I suspect many gamers will play through the storyline and maybe dabble in some endgame material before moving on. But for the true grinders, there does seem to be a good amount of potential for playing BL4 for months on end, especially with new content in the pipeline. This game also adds the ability to skip the story and begin at level 30 on a new character, which is instantly more inviting for multiple playthroughs and variety.

More down-to-earth (or Kairos) than ever

Borderlands 4 Kairos
Image via 2K

The upped stakes of BL4's plot on its new location of Kairos make for a more serious-feeling game than before, which is a good thing. One of the main complaints about the Borderlands series has been its increasing reliance on toilet humor and dumb jokes. Kairo has a bit more of a darker tone than the previous planet of Pandora, and it makes for a more muted experience when it comes to humor.

Make no mistake, though. This is Borderlands. Side quests galore are filled with silly references and jokes, and they range from flat and cringy to genuinely kind of funny. One quest I found was inspired by Pokémon, and tasked me with using tech to catch runaway mini bipedal Tediore guns like pocket monsters. The quest giver, Bash, could only look on in horror as I was assaulted by Team Rocket lampoons named Bomb Squad Jake and Josey.

There's another side quest where a Kairos resident named Crack MaBacky wanted me to crack his back several times. Seriously. It's the kind of stuff you roll your eyes at and get your XP and money from, but it's a reminder that you are indeed still playing a Borderlands game. This time around, it's more ancillary and less egregious than before, so it works.

One of my main issues with BL4 was that the game's storyline takes quite a while to get going. It wasn't until after entering the map's third biome that the events really hooked me and made me want to play the storyline to its completion. Before that, I felt myself trudging through the map, exploring and learning the combat more than engaging with the growing plot—early on, it's all about world-building, and it felt like a slog before I locked in to the events.

Borderlands 4 Throbbing Kitty

It doesn't help that Kairos's tone creates some more realistic, albeit bland-feeling, new NPCs when compared to the previous game's outrageous characters like Tiny Tina, Sir Hammerlock, or Claptrap (the bot takes a big backseat in this game), but returning characters and the storyline's crescendo in its second half made everything feel satisfying in the end, even if the main villain ended up falling flat by the time the credits roll.

Still, basically every voiced character in the game is brought to life with immaculate care and professional execution, from the Vault Hunters to random Psychos screaming in pain as they get targeted by my auto-aiming grenades. Coupled with appropriate combat music and ambience matching the flora and fauna, the game sounds as good as it plays.

All of these things help Kairos feel like a joy to explore while finishing out the map by finding collectibles, clearing multi-step side missions and quests, and stumbling across randomly-spawned events or world bosses that drop high-tier loot. This process is only enhanced with the new Digirunner personal vehicle always at your disposal, instead of having to use a Catch-A-Ride somewhere.

Optimize THIS!

Borderlands 4 Rafa
Image via 2K Games

I reviewed BL4 on PC, and the pre-release build was less than stellar when it comes to optimization on my rig, which is admittedly aging at about four years old. Hitching while moving between areas of the map, freezing during gunfights, framerate drops, and a handful of game crashes mired my experience and took what could have been an instant classic and made it more of a frustrating experience than I would've hoped for.

Thankfully (for the game, not for me), it appears that an issue with my dying power supply was causing the bulk of my worst problems. Gearbox says the day one patch for BL4 will fix many of these issues, like hitching when moving between areas of the large open world map, and I have faith that things should feel better, but I can only speak on my own personal time with the game thus far.

A lot of my hours early on were spent tweaking settings on my PC, which fit within the game's minimum specifications, but I still had a hard time getting it to play smoothly, even on the absolute lowest settings. Eventually, I did find a sweet spot of Low settings with some exceptions trickled in to land at a relatively stable 60 FPS with less frequent drops and hitches, thanks to help from 2K and Gearbox figuring out what was best for my machine.

If you're like me with an aging rig and comparable specs (i7-12700K, NVIDIA RTX 3070, 16 GB RAM), then beware that this could hamper your experience. And if you're like me, it may be time for some upgrades.

I hope the incoming optimization updates help bring BL4 to its max potential, which is to say, absolutely in the discussion for the best overall game in the franchise at its launch. For now, I'd maybe suggest picking this one up on console if you're worried about how it may play on your own PC, or wait for an optimization patch if these potential issues bug you.

For clarity, here are my PC specs and game settings:

  • OS: Windows 11
  • CPU: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700K (3.60 GHz)
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
  • RAM: 16 GB RAM
  • Borderlands 4 video settings: Low preset, 1080p resolution

And here are the recommended and minimum specs for BL4 on Steam:

Flying around in a hammerhead choppa in fortnite

There's a massive bug swarm plaguing the island in Fortnite, and it's up to you to help put a stop to it. You need to call in some assistance to deal with this issue, including tackling the damage opponents while in a Hammerhead Choppa to help summon Pink Ranger quest.

This is one of the trickier missions you'll face, as it's not one you can get done on your own and is a decently tough ask to tackle. If you're struggling with this one, here's how to damage opponents while in a Hammerhead Choppa to help summon Pink Ranger in Fortnite.

Damage opponents while in a Hammerhead Choppa to help summon Pink Ranger in Fortnite

Screenshot by Destructoid

To effectively damage opponents while in a Hammerhead Choppa to help summon Pink Ranger, you need to be in a Hammerhead Choppa and deal damage against either enemy players or bugs. This quest calls for any opponents, so who you choose to target for this mission is entirely up to you.

This task is one of several Megazord community quests, so it's not one you can finish on your own. Instead, you need to repeatedly tackle this process as often as you can to help the goal bar move up for all players. There's no limit to how many times you can work on it, so contribute progress as often as you can if you want to help get it done.

The first step for tackling this mission is getting a Hammerhead Choppa to use. There are many Hammerhead Choppa locations you can venture to around the island, so start by choosing one. Some good spots to check are OXR HQ and bug-infested Outposts.

Once you find a Hammerhead Choppa, interact with it to head inside. Next, you need to find some opponents to take out. Since this quest calls for general enemies, you can either seek out players or bugs. It's much easier to help with this one if you're facing bugs, so I recommend focusing on these foes instead of actual players. Bugs are also much more grouped up, especially around locations like The Hive and Ranger's Ruin, so you can make more progress overall.

Flying over a hammerhead choppa on a landing pad in fortnite
Screenshot by Destructoid

Once you have some enemies in sight, I recommend switching to one of the passenger seats in this vehicle so you can start shooting. If you're alone, it might be a bit tricky to balance flying and swapping to another seat to shoot, so consider landing on the ground when you move spots to make this task easier.

As long as you're in the Hammerhead Choppa, you can deal damage against enemies however you like. I recommend mostly sticking to using classic guns, as trying any fancier tools like the Precision Air Strike or Swamstrike could backfire and end up destroying your ship. Repeat this process as often as possible to help the community knock out this goal.

There are many other missions worth tackling around the vast island after this one. Next, you might gain shields using Slurp Geysersuse an Ascender and a Zipline in the same match, use loudspeakers on the Hammerhead Choppa, and call in Precision Air Strikes.

lasers falling down from sky with precision air strike in fortnite

A community quest series has begun in Fortnite Chapter Six, season four, and it's got quite a few tricky tasks for you to navigate. One of the missions you'll come across asks you to hit players or bugs with Precision Air Strike to help summon Blue Ranger.

If you want to help summon Megazord to the island, tackling this quest is essential. It's a decently tricky one to get done, though, so here's how to hit players or bugs with Precision Air Strike to help summon Blue Ranger in Fortnite.

Hit players or bugs with Precision Air Strike to help summon Blue Ranger in Fortnite

Holding precision air strike in fortnite
Screenshot by Destructoid

To complete the hit players or bugs with Precision Air Strike to help summon Blue Ranger quest, you need to call in Air Strikes by using this weapon as frequently as possible. This goal works a bit differently than most others, as it's a community mission rather than one you can tackle on your own.

Instead of a clear number of times you need to get this done, the task progress has a percentage bar that slowly goes up as the entire playerbase works on this quest. You simply need to chip in as much as you can to help it go up, but you also need the community to do the same.

The first step for tackling this quest is finding a Precision Air Strike. It's a fairly tough tool to find, as you need to focus on increasing your OXR Rank to have a shot of finding it. Once you reach Rank A or higher, you might come across this weapon in OXR Bunkers or OXR Drop Pods, although it isn't guaranteed.

Next, you need to call in an Air Strike on some enemy players or hostile bugs. To contribute the most progress in this task, I recommend focusing on bugs, as it's much easier to target a large group of them and efficiently deal massive damage against a large group at once.

A massive explosion raining down from the sky in Fortnite
Screenshot by Destructoid

The Precision Air Strike targets a fairly large area, making it quite effective to use just about anywhere on the map. For the maximum damage and quest progress, though, it's best to focus on bug-infested zones, especially main POIs like Ranger's Ruin, The Hive, and Swarmy Stash. These areas have more bugs than anywhere else, which means you'll contribute as much progress to the event as possible.

To chip away at this quest, repeat the same process as frequently as possible. All Air Strikes only have a single charge, so you must find a new one each time you want to tackle this quest. If all players give it their all, this mission should get done fairly quickly, which is crucial since there are plenty of other Megazord community quests to get done after it.

There are plenty of other crucial missions to get done around the island once this one is complete. If you're not sure what to work on next, you might try using an Ascender and a Zipline in the same match, gaining shields using Slurp Geysers, and destroying Swarmer Nests to thin out the swarm.
