As has been the case with all of Hollow Knight: Silksong's sizeable updates this far, Team Cherry have put out some tweaks as a Steam beta shot to the upcoming patch three's chaser. As of now, opting into playtesting this "interim update" offers some extra controller support and fixes, but the devs say more'll be added before the full patch goes live to everyone.

In case you need a refesher, the metroidvania's first patch made a couple of its early bosses a bit easier. Meanwhile, its second patch didn't do any balancing, but did bring handy fixes to problems like the Savage Beastfly boss cheekily hiding below some lava.

A character surrounded by skeletons in Megabonk.

Megabonk has plenty of character stats, and understanding how they work is crucial.

Mastering the stats is crucial if you want to succeed on higher-tier levels. Every stat is essential to analyze, but some will have a heavier impact on your survival (based on your build).

The game doesn't explain the stats well. This guide will help you understand what each stat means and how it works.

All character stats in Megabonk and how they work

The table below has information and briefly explains what every stat means.

Stats in Megabonk
Screenshot by Destructoid

Stat How it works
Max HP Complete health pool for every character inside the game. This can increase with certain items and tomes.
HP regen The rate at which lost HP can regenerate. Can be increased with tomes and items.
Overheal This stat is active only if HP regen goes above 100 (this stat still needs some more time for me to understand well).
Shield Shield value when it is active.
Armor The Armor reduces a percentage of damage and the health you could lose from an attack.
Evasion Chances of you completely avoiding damage from an incoming attack.
Lifesteal Amount of health pool regeneration that can trigger when you land an attack and do damage to an enemy.
Thorns Applies a modifier that does damage to an enemy when they attack you.
Damage The rate at which you deal damage to your enemies. Can be increased with tomes and items.
Crit Chance The rate at which you can land a critical attack.
Crit Damage Amount of damage you do when landing a critical attack.
Attack Speed Your default rate of attacks, which can be raised with items and tomes.
Projectile Count The number of projectiles you can fire. Only activates when you use a weapon that has projectile-type damage.
Projectile Bounces The rate at which the projectiles bounce after hitting an enemy. Only works with certain weapons.
Size The size of your attack (projectile size, blade swings, bullets, etc)
Projectile Speed The rate at which Projectiles travel when fired.
Duration I need more time to examine this stat, but it appears related to how long elemental effects like Freeze, Poison, and more last.
Damage to Elites The amount of damage you can land on elite enemies like Stage Bosses.
Knockback Amount of pushback you can land on an enemy with a weapon hit.
Movement Speed Speed at which you can move on the map. Can be raised with tomes and items.
Extra Jumps When active, you can keep extra jumps to escape tight situations.
Jump Height Decides how high you can reach with your jump.
Luck This stat determines how frequently you can get rarer tomes, items, and weapon upgrades.
Difficulty Determines the difficulty rate of your run. Playing in higher difficulties will get better rewards.
Pickup Range A higher stat in this department will allow you to pick up XP from a greater distance.
XP Gain Rate at which you gain XP from every level.
Gold Gain Rate at which you get Gold.
Silver Gain Rate at which you get Silver.
Elite Spawn Increase Rate at which you can encounter elite enemies.
Powerup Multiplier The rate at which your Powerups apply their applicable modifiers.
Powerup Drop Chance The rate at which Powerups can drop during your run.

Specific stats like Movement Speed, Damage, and Powerup Drop Chances are universal. It's essential to level them up as much as possible, as they will help your build and raise your chances of success.

Dicehead in Megabonk trying to escape an enemy

Megabonk's full release has witnessed plenty of players joining in to have fun, and there are plenty of offers.

If you have played and enjoyed games like Vampire Survivors in the past, you'll fall in love with Megabonk. Every run might not result in a win, but you'll be able to unlock new characters, tomes, items, and more. The grind stays fresh, and you gain something from every run.

Unfortunately, everything that you can experience in Megabonk is in the form of solo adventures.

Does Megabonk have multiplayer and co-op

Neither can you go on co-op runs with your buddies, nor can you juke them out in PvP. The reason is simple: Megabonk is a single-player-only title. You can play as much as you want, but only on your own. The game doesn't offer any form of multiplayer content at the time of writing (Sept. 29), and that's unlikely to change.

Interestingly, there have been plenty of requests from players to introduce multiplayer. One look at the Steam forums says everything you need to know. The community wants multiplayer to be added to the game, but whether that happens remains unknown.

Multiplayer could always be added, depending mainly on what the developer has in mind for future updates. Alternatively, a mod could potentially solve the problem as well.

Is there a multiplayer mod for Megabonk

As of Sept. 29, there is no multiplayer mod for Megabonk. I have checked all the current mods for the game, but none offer anything close to a multiplayer experience.

However, I won't rule out getting mods that could enable multiplayer. If we get multiplayer, it will be fun to go on co-op adventures with our buddies and play together to create wave after wave of enemies.
