We have just over two weeks to go until the Endwalker release date, and the FFXIV devs have provided plenty of info on what's to come - except for crafting, gathering, and PvP updates, that is. We're on the eve of the Live Letter broadcast that'll reveal those last few details for the MMORPG, so here's a quick breakdown of when and what to expect from the event.
Letter from the Producer Live Part LXVII will broadcast on Friday, November 5 at 7pm PDT / 10am EDT, or November 6 at 2am GMT. You'll be able to catch it on YouTube and Twitch, and in what's finally becoming an FFXIV tradition, the event will feature live translations from Japanese to English - no need to await unofficial translations for context. The devs have noted that co-streaming will be allowed, so if you want to stream your reactions, you're all clear.
As previously announced, this broadcast will reveal more details on what's changing with crafting and gathering jobs. We already know that HQ items will be removed as of the 6.0 update as part of an effort to reduce inventory bloat, which is going to mean some big updates to gatherers in particular. Abilities that increase your HQ gathering chance will be changed to get you more items instead, but we don't know the full extent of the revisions there yet.

Now Solasta's first major DLC, Primal Calling, is here to fill in some of the gaps in the original game, alongside a free update adding further bonus content.
Primal Calling is priced at $9.99 / £7.99 / €9.99, and adds two new classes: the Barbarian and the Druid, both of which get a pair of bonus subclasses designed by the Solasta community. Path of Stone Barbarians get a big defensive bonus when facing multiple enemies, while those following the Path of the Magebane channel their hatred of spellcasters into spell resistance and a bonus war cry attack that triggers when taking magic damage.
Druids in the Circle of the Kindred Spirits can summon a spiritual animal that can share damage with you. The Circle of the Winds gives you movement bonuses, and lets you grant some defensive and offensive boons to the entire party.

But it turns out there's quite a bit more to the new artefact system than furniture and draperies. You'll be able to wear certain artefacts for certain bonuses, and they'll wear out with heavy use. If you have a claim to an artefact, it can even be used as grounds for war.
The latest Crusader Kings III dev diary provides some new details into the grand strategy game's upcoming DLC feature, and it makes for interesting reading. Crusader Kings has always been a role-playing game, sure - you're playing the role of a medieval ruler of some kind - but Royal Court is going to make that even more explicit. Your character will have a new paper doll-style inventory screen, which is where you'll be able to equip certain kinds of personal artefacts.
Wearing artefacts will grant certain bonuses specific to that weapon or piece of jewellery. The Uyghur Brooch, which is shown in the diary, might grant a +15% bonus to fertility and a 0.18 per month boost to prestige gain, for example (naturally, these stats are all subject to change prior to launch).

The EPOS H3 Hybrid tries to continue this legacy by riffing off the design of the original EPOS H3 that came out a few months ago, and while it succeeds in doing a little more than just cutting the cord, it might not be the best gaming headset out there for PC gamers.
Instead of chucking Bluetooth compatibility into its flagship headset and calling it a day, EPOS wants the H3 Hybrid to be a one-stop shop that pairs with virtually any device - and in some cases, two at the same time with one wired and the other wireless. It's not the first to make multi-connectivity a headline feature, but I sure can't see enough of it when the Nintendo Switch still requires you to run your voice chat through a third-party platform.
But if a PC is your main gaming device, it's difficult to justify the $179 / £149 MSRP when the hybrid wireless connection comes with caveats and there are several alternatives.

But Amazon announced earlier this year that it would be publishing the South Korean MMO Lost Ark worldwide, presumably confident that the two games would not be eating into the same audience. Either way, Lost Ark is now in closed beta testing, and even with a limited rollout, it's popping off on Steam.
The Lost Ark closed beta launched earlier today, and has reached a peak of 87,635 concurrent players, as SteamDB shows. That's the tenth-highest peak on Steam today, ahead of such perennial favourites as Destiny 2, Dead by Daylight, and Rainbow Six Siege. For comparison, New World's open beta reached a peak of 141,668 players a few months ago.

If you're wondering what the best Call of Duty Vanguard Volk loadout is, then here's how to build this powerful assault rifle to dominate the battlefield. With impressive base stats, the Volk is a worthy choice as one of the best Vanguard guns and ideal for players looking for a good allrounder to win close to long range fights.
The Volk suffers from poor recoil control, but is described as being quick and mobile. It certainly is a lightweight assault rifle, so we're able to sacrifice mobility to balance the Volk's range and recoil. The Volk's versatility makes it great for players who don't have a specific playstyle, and want to adapt to the different Call of Duty Vanguard maps without tinkering with their loadout.
We've focussed on creating a loadout that improves the weapon's control and recoil, while complementing the mobility and increasing the range. Although this assault rifle is best used in medium range, our Vanguard Volk loadout includes attachments that can span close and mid to long range combat.
The data is in, and Bungie's latest experiment with Trials of Osiris matchmaking is going in the bin for now. The win-based matchmaking system seen in the most recent Trials resulted in players spending significantly less time in the FPS game's competitive mode, and Bungie says that between the data it collected itself and the feedback it's gotten from players, the experiment was definitely a learning experience.
When the next Trials of Osiris goes live November 12, it'll be running on the familiar system - you'll track your wins on a card you pick up from Saint-14, entering a special matchmaking pool once you've gone flawless for seven games. The advantage to this was that if you're a player who struggles to go flawless during Trials, you can wait until the Sunday reset when all the players who have gone flawless shift into the flawless pool, pitting you against other similarly skilled players.
However, Bungie has explained that there are problems with this approach - for instance, the timing of the reset is inconvenient for players who live outside of US time zones, and players who only manage to squeak out a flawless must suddenly face other flawless players exclusively, creating a massive difficulty spike.

The developer has taken to Twitter (below) to share a nifty infographic that spells out when the new war game will release in your region.
Call of Duty games are chonky beasts at the best of times when it comes to download space, but you'll be glad to know that you have plenty of control when determining the Call of Duty: Vanguard PC install size.
If you stick to Vanguard's multiplayer and Zombies modes, you'll only have to spare 36GB of storage space on your PC. However, if you throw in the campaign, you'll need to free up 61GB of space. If you're looking to boost your graphical performance, you can also dedicate an additional 32GB or 64GB as a hi-rez assets cache, which should aid you in streaming high-resolution assets more efficiently. All in all, you're looking at 125GB if you want to download everything that's on offer, but it's not a necessity.
If your introduction to RPG-style farming games was Stardew Valley, buddy, there's a whole world of wonders out there to discover. ConcernedApe's next game, Haunted Chocolatier, is putting a greater focus on combat, but the Rune Factory series has been doing the same for classic farming life sim Harvest Moon (or Story of Seasons, if you prefer the modern name) for ages. Now, Rune Factory is finally coming to Steam.
The PC launch of Rune Factory 4 Special was announced earlier this year, but now the developers have provided a precise release date: December 7, 2021. You can pick it up on Steam or the Microsoft Store, and the game will be coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on that same day, too, nearly two years after this 'Special' version hit Switch. (And the better part of a decade after the original 3DS game came out.)
Rune Factory 4, like previous entries in the series, bulk up the farming RPG concept with more traditional adventuring elements, dungeon crawling, and combat. RF4 Special adds new difficulty options, the Another Episode DLC, and updated in-game cutscenes.
Ever since Victoria 3 was announced earlier this year, there's been one topic I, and many others, have been waiting patiently to hear about - Warfare. As much as grand strategy games have evolved beyond map-painting in recent years, warfare is at the heart of all of them. Even Crusader Kings, the infamous family murder simulator, has a robust combat system where you order armies around the map.
That's all set to change with Victoria 3, it seems, and my feelings are decidedly Mixed™. In this week's development diary, game director Martin 'Whizzington' Anward laid out the fundamental vision for the strategy game's warfare mechanics, in a similar way he laid out the vision for the game at large just after announcement.
He outlines several pillars, such as warfare being costly, being a concept that's in flux due to the technological changes that happened during this period, even about preparation. The most important and game-changing pillar though is that Victoria 3 will no longer let you order individual units or armies around the map. "All decisions you make regarding warfare are on the strategic level," the diary reads. "Warfare in Victoria 3 is focused on supplying and allocating troops to frontlines between you and your enemies. The decisions you make during war are about matters such as what front you send your generals to and what overall strategy they should be following there."

Yet, while rumours suggest that the blue team's offerings include a graphics card that rivals the RTX 3070, a driver update suggests that there could be as many as 32 different DG2 SKUs.
Spotted by LaptopVideo2Go forum user Andi_84, the driver features 32 new GPU DG2 IDs, around six times more than the DG1 did at launch. Scheduled to release tomorrow alongside Intel's shiny new Alder Lake series of gaming CPUs, the update also includes support for integrated Xe-LP graphics, as well as Alder Lake-P high-end and Alder Lake-M/N low-powered mobile graphics.
Naturally, the driver's newly acquired ID set hints that the new Intel lineup will feature more models than before. However, it's not clear whether two separate drivers will be used for desktop and mobile variants, meaning there could be less individual SKUs than the software update suggests.

Want to know what the best M1928 loadout is in Call of Duty Vanguard? The M1928, also known as the Thompson or Tommy Gun in previous Call of Duty games, is easily one of the best SMGs in Vanguard. At close range, this weapon is capable of taking down enemies very quickly thanks to its fast rate of fire, and it features a drum magazine which packs a whopping 50 bullets per clip.
The downside to using a drum magazine is the weight - it's heavy enough to slow down your movement and reload speed. Compared to the best MP40 loadout, the M1928 is slower, has heavier recoil, and isn't as effective from medium to long range, but we can fix these problems with the right set of attachments.
We're going to take advantage of the M1928's close range capabilities by building a stealth loadout for this SMG. This weapon is perfect for sneaking into buildings, allowing you to slowly eliminate enemies while staying completely invisible on the minimap. Here's everything you need to build the best M1928 loadout in Call of Duty Vanguard.
Historical grand strategy game Europa Universalis IV is getting a new expansion - Origins - next week, and the development team have done its customary sharing of the patch notes ahead of release.
Accompanying the newest EU4 DLC is patch 1.32 'Songhai', and it contains over 450 changes according to the patch notes - so it's probably unsurprising that one of the strategy game's associate producers has called in an "important" one. This is also a great way to separate what's coming as part of the premium expansion, and what's coming as part of the free patch.
Historically, content in the free patch has tended to outshine content in the premium update, but in this case things seem to be a bit more even if you discount all the fixes and quality-of-life improvements. Patch 1.32 will introduce nine new government reforms for African nations, as well as eight additional estate privileges. There are also eight new formable nations, and the infamous Zulu nation can spawn during the course of the game as well. Add to this 52 new monuments, and some reworks of existing nations.

Previously announced at the Microsoft E3 conference a few years ago, Elden Ring has been confirmed for Xbox One and Windows PC and will be produced by Bandai Namco, and developed by Hidetaka Miyazaki's studio, FromSoftware.
With the Dark Souls and Sekiro director at the helm, we already know we're in for mystery, nightmarish boss designs, and a whole lot of dying. The announcement trailer gives off some very Dark Souls vibes. Although Miyazaki confirms that Elden Ring gameplay is heavily based on the Souls series, combat will play out very differently due to the "open and vast environment".
Keeping things FromSoft, Elden Ring is also a third person open-world dark fantasy RPG, but what's new is that it features a collaboration with Game of Thrones writer and author of A Song of Ice and Fire, George R. R. Martin. As a result, we're anticipating plenty more in terms of storytelling than we're used to from Miyazaki, without sacrificing any of the rich, lore-soaked environment and boss designs we know and love from the Souls games. Elden Ring will also feature music from Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro composer Yuka Kitamura.

It's fair to say that Intel's new 12th generation Core processors have a lot of ground to make up, with the company losing substantial market share to AMD's Ryzen CPUs for the past few years. However, Alder Lake is different from every x86 desktop chip we've ever had, featuring a hybrid design of performance and efficiency cores which could lead the way for all future processors from not just Intel but AMD as well.
There've been numerous leaks surrounding the Core i9-12900K and Core i5-12600K, with Intel formally confirming their specifications and prices at its Intel Innovation event this past October. The price of the Alder Lake lineup ranges between $264-$589 USD, which is comparative to the cost of AMD's existing Ryzen 5000 offerings.
However, the question remains whether these Alder Lake processors can rank among the best gaming CPUs on the market, and how much of a lead team blue can create of over team red before the arrival of Zen 4 in 2022.

Stats, staff meetings, and processes matter more than ever, but for all the hours you can pour into match momentum charts and xG curves, the only thing that matters is how the team performs on the field. And if you can't react when you're a goal down, if you can't see the gaps in midfield, or understand why your wingers are constantly backtracking, then you're going to struggle, your team's going to turn on you, and eventually you'll be looking for a new club to take you in.
That's not to say that additions like the new data hub aren't welcome, more that it complements an already robust, grounded simulation game. This new tab in the main menu bundles all of the tricky graphs, xG (expected goals) data, and pass maps into one quick-look page. An 'ask an analyst' option is hidden away in there too, which is probably the most powerful tool of the lot, returning a stack of graphs based on the keywords you type in. A creeping sense that your team is struggling to keep clean sheets can be turned into actionable objectives by simply searching for 'defender' and scanning a few graphs.
Despite hovering around the automatic promotion places, Fulham (or my Fulham, at least) have one of the poorest defensive records in the league. The culprit? We're just not tackling enough, and in particular our star signing from Torino, Alessandro Buongiorno, has made the fewest tackles in the whole league. I could drop him, but his marking and aerial qualities are among the best in the league. Instead I adjust his training schedule to improve aggression and ground defence, and this helps a little, but a few matches later we're still looking leaky at the back. Further investigation reveals that our back four aren't getting much help from our defensive midfielders, who I've been playing in supporting and attacking roles all season.
Within the Total Warhammer community there is a meme about Tuesdays being 'newsdays', but that meme may have to make way for Thursday, because Creative Assembly has taken today by storm with a trifecta of news we can most definitely use. Not only do we have a new Total War: Warhammer III release date, we also know what the early-adopter bonus race will be, and finally, it seems Warhammer III is coming to Game Pass for PC on day one.
Our resident Warhammer nerd (and fearless leader) Rich has been betting on the Ogre Kingdoms being in the strategy game pretty much since Warhammer III was announced, and they were all but confirmed when Ogres were introduced into Warhammer II earlier this year. Today's announcement finally confirms that, yes, Ogre Kingdoms will be a playable Warhammer III race. There was a lot to see - and you can catch it all below if you missed it or want to bask in it all over again - but one of the real highlights was a showcase of the fantasy game's map system, which has some handy Breath of the Wild-like features.
During the gameplay reveal stream, FromSoftware has shown that Elden Ring's map, like those in other sprawling, open-world games, can be a very handy tool in exploring its expansive world - but some of its most helpful features go beyond what you might ordinarily find. Elden Ring's map is populated by finding 'map fragments', the devs explain. Once you're in the in-game map viewer, you can then use custom markers - somewhat akin to BotW's pins and stamps - to make navigating to and recalling points of interest much easier.
For example, the stream shows a range of different marker icons with various symbols that you can plonk onto the map to denote places and things you've discovered, or might want to pursue later. These might be for crafting materials or dangerous enemies you've come across, for instance.

League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, Legends of Runeterra, and Valorant are all now available via the Epic Games Store. That's all of Riot's games, in case you were wondering, which have previously been solely available on PC via their own launcher. At the same time, League Of Legends hero Jinx is hopping into Fortnite.
I write about a lot of games that I describe as being "like Rune Factory." Well. If you like games like Rune Factory, you'll love that Rune Factory 4 Special is headed to PC in a little over a month, on December 7th.
Hey podcast fans. Mum's away this week, which means the inmates have taken over the asylum once again. The temptation was to play another round of Sweeten The Deal, but instead Nate and I were good little podcast boys and delivered a surprisingly on point discussion of our favourite videogame adaptations of literary works. Well, I say 'on point'; there's a fair amount of discussion of new Dune, too, which is what got us thinking about successful book to screen journeys. Sadly, the House Atreides bagpipe band were not available for a rousing rendition of the podcast theme.
There's also a micro Cavern of Lies in which things get biblical.
A new update hit New World today, aimed partially at cracking down on gold sellers and exploits used to duplicate items and cash. Amazon say they've banned many players who were spamming chat advertising their illicit services. They also blasted a blog post talking about many of the issues concerning players, explaining things, detailing plans for fixes, and other welcome news.
Want to know which are the best guns in Call Of Duty: Vanguard? Recent Call Of Duty games have among the most complex weapon meta of any FPS games, thanks both to the sheer number of weapons and the absurd number of attachments you can use to customise each gun. Call Of Duty: Vanguard continues this trend in a big way, with 27 primary and 9 secondary weapons that you can unlock, customise, and experiment with.
We fully expect Call Of Duty: Vanguard's weapon meta to evolve quickly with future updates and balance patches, but at the moment there is definitely a top tier of guns which have risen above the rest in effectiveness. Below we'll walk you through the very best guns in the game and how to get the most power out of each one.
I'll admit I misjudged Forza Horizon 5 – not just the extent to which I'd enjoy it, but how much its searingly shiny visuals could justify the significantly heightened PC requirements. Well, lock me in one of this game's hundreds of boots and take me away, because it's both tonnes of fun and genuinely, magnificently gorgeous. Here's how Forza Horizon 5 runs on PC, and which settings to tweak if you want a performance boost without cutting too deep into that top-notch fidelity.
From Software and Bandai Namco have treated us to a new Elden Ring gameplay trailer, which showed off 15 glorious minutes of exploration. All I wanted was one laugh and I got it, from a rotund POT-BOY at that. Plus, it was narrated by a guy who sounded suspiciously like SoulsTuber VaatiVidya as the Tarnished trotted and fought and summoned and stealthed. Undoubtedly a showstopper of a trailer, but the higlight for me was how good the action sounded. And boy, it sounded good didn't it?
If you're not too busy fawning over that new Elden Ring gameplay trailer (I don't blame you, it's very exciting), then I have some more exciting Soulsborne news for you - a PlayStation 1-esque demake of Bloodborne is coming out in January next year, and it looks excellent. Bloodborne PSX turns FromSoft's gothic action-RPG into a low-poly spookfest, complete with crackly old sound effects and 16-bit music.
Darkest Dungeon 2, the sequel to Red Hook Studio's gothic roguelike, is a somewhat familiar affair. It's dark, it's tough, and a narrator likes to remind you of those things frequently. But this time around, we're leaving the Ancestor's squalid hamlet behind, and swapping it out for a stress-fueled stagecoach. Heroes are no longer cannon-fodder to send out on doomed expeditions, but vital team members who have stories to share and relationships to forge.
I recently talked with creative director Chris Bourassa and design director Tyler Sigman about why they decided to take the game in this new direction, the difficulties of switching to a relationship-based affliction system, and why they're excited to be working in early access again.
How do you level up Trade Skills in New World? Trade Skills are non-combat skills in New World — just about any activity your character takes part in that isn't tied to their weapons is linked to a Trade Skill. There are 17 of these skills in all, separated into three sub-categories: Gathering, Refining, and Crafting.
Lost Ark is a free-to-play action RPG-inspired MMO that came out to great acclaim in Korea back in 2018. Now, Amazon Games are bringing its flashy, Diablo-like combat to the west in the form of a closed beta later today, and we've had an early sneak peek at it. Of course, what with Amazon's own MMO New World now settling into its third month, not to mention Final Fantasy 14's Endwalker expansion looming on the horizon, Lost Ark arrives at a busy time for fervent EXP grinders. The big question, then, is whether Lost Ark's Diablo-y formula can do enough to compete with the already well-established MMO juggernauts. Judging by my few hours of hands-on time, I'm thinking it might, but only if you're able to embrace its slow burn.
After taking a deep breath, Sega have shouted a large amount of news about Total War: Warhammer 3's launch. For starters, the release date is February 17th, 2022. For main course, folks who buy it within a week of launch will get the Ogre Kingdoms DLC for free. And for dessert, it will be in Xbox Game Pass For PC. A fair meal, there. But here, come meet the Ogres in this new trailer below.
Grief is a delicate subject to tackle, and games sometimes stumble in their approaches, either making things excessively mournful or veering into cringe territory with you know, like, emotions, man. But Arte's upcoming puzzling game, How To Say Goodbye, looks like a refreshingly playful take on loss. Not to mention that it's a feast for the eyes. I mean, just LOOK at it.
