When it comes to marriage proposals, most methods within reach
of an average guy with an average budget have been done before: from moonlit
proposals on the beach to sky-written proposals in the clouds.
But that doesn't mean a novel proposal isn't worth trying (or will go
unappreciated).
For one Australian man, a simple offering of a ring during dinner just wasn't
gonna satisfy his inner manimal. Jesse Bickford had other plans to propose to
girlfriend Erin Taylor. In fact, his rather unique plan involved a highly
talented cockatoo and enlisting staff at the Australian Zoo as his helpers.
The Australian Zoo recently shared roughly two minute's worth of video footage
showing Jesse's wedding proposal to Erin.
She believed they were simply about to witness a delightful zoo show involving
lots of different animals. The event, after all, included a large audience and
lots of different animals-- some cute and furry, others bewinged and squawking.
Before the event, however, Jesse and the cooperative zoo staff worked out an
routine he'd use on this day to propose marriage to Erin.
This was pretty outside-the-ring-box thinking.
During the show, a zookeeper named Meghan dispatched a special bird called a
cupid cockatoo into the audience and explained that the cockatoo's job was to
collect money from the spectators.
This bird of romance flew right to Erin, sitting beside James, and took money
from her hand. It then returned a few moments later with a paper note the bird
handler said was her "airmail receipt" for the contribution.
Cue the magical experience when Erin opens the note and simultaneously finds
James down on one knee, proffering a ring and asking for his awe-struck
soon-to-be-fiancée to marry him.
The audience, of course, is behind James on this one. They hoot and cheer.
Meanwhile, Erin bursts into tears and gives an enthusiastic 'yes' answer. The
couple embraced and, best of all, the whole scene has been caught on video to be
shared with the world.
The befeathered exchange, not surprising, went viral all over social media. Erin
Taylor got the surprise of her life when her proposal was delivered by a
charming cockatoo with a ring and paper note. And the koala snuggle photoshoot
