Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Saturday, March 21, 2026 3:15 PM I'm going to say it: bullet hells are more stressful than Souls-likes. Why are there 10,000 orbs approaching me, promising me misery and death! And I have to both tactfully dodge them while also staging a front myself? The visual information alone is enough to deteriorate the mind, memorising a list of attack patterns from some big dude with a sword seems like chump change by comparison. So this leaves me quite sweet on DeeSicks, a roguelike take on the game with physics-based dice rolling where god has died and you become your own boss. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Saturday, March 21, 2026 2:09 PM Palworld has honestly lived, and thrived, a lot longer than I honestly expected to. I guess the people really do want Pokemon with guns! As since its launch two years ago (ignore the coffee I've spat over my screen at that passage of time), there have been announcements for spin-offs in the form of Stardew Valley if it were Pokemon but actually it's Palworld, a dating sim that started as a joke but will now be real, and more recently, a card game. Despite all of that expansion, however, developer Pocketpair say they have "no desire to be a media empire." |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Saturday, March 21, 2026 1:10 PM Slay the Spire 2 is, quite notably, a game in early access. This means many things, but most importantly it means that any changes that are made aren't necessarily final, they're just more tests to see what does and doesn't work. The roguelike deckbuilder's first proper update went live yesterday, adding in a phobia mode with some bespoke assets and making a whole bunch of tweaks. It's that second part that has riled up the feathers of some spire slayers (just have a brief trawl of recent reviews), prompting developer Mega Crit to take a moment to explain just how they go about their "patching methodology." |

When March 2026 kicked off, Sanrio and Converse announced a collection of Chuck Taylor All Star, Chuck 70, and Converse by You shoes and other merchandise with characters like Hello Kitty, Cinnamoroll, My Melody, Kuromi, and Pompompurin on them. Essentially, taking foundation-level items in the line and embellishing them with characters. Some of the items ended up being incredibly obvious about the collaboration, like the Hello Kitty Chuck Taylor 70 Swarovski pair or Chuck 70 Stickers or Chuck Taylor All Star BFFs design. After wearing the a pair of the Converse x Hello Kitty and Friends Chuck Taylor All Star Picnic sneakers, I feel like the limited collection is at its best when it's slightly subtle about it.
First, I do recommend going to an actual Converse store to try on a Chuck Taylor All Star before you place any order. While the official site noted it "runs large" and recommends ordering a half-size down, I found it was true to my actual size. Plus, depending on how you like to style and wear high-tops, you might want to be sure it isn't too snug.
The one thing I would note is be prepared to play around with the laces a bit when you first get a pair of the Converse x Hello Kitty and Friends Chuck Taylor All Star shoes. They are a great fit that are quite comfortable when worn, but it really is about getting them the way you like them first. If you want to use every one of the eyelets, you might need to get longer laces. (In the case of this Picnic variety, that would also mean restringing the charms when you thread the laces.) If you're unaccustomed to a high-top style, wear them for shorter distances while you get used to that extra support. Note that if you do decide to swap the laces, it will be a bit of an affair as there are four charms on them you'll need to replace as you go along.
Yup, I mentioned charms. If someone only quickly glances at the Converse x Hello Kitty and Friends Chuck Taylor All Star Picnic high-top sneakers while you're wearing the pair, the shoes might look like a typical black and white plaid pair. But the second you spend a little more time looking at them, it feels obvious references and more subtle Easter eggs show up. The outside panel where the ankle logo would be on each shoe features the "Hello Kitty and Friends" logo and a photo of Hello Kitty surrounded by Kuromi, Keroppi, Cinnamoroll, My Melody, Chococat, Badtz Maru, Pompompurin, Tuxedosam, and Pochacco. There's a strip of (fake) washi tape with Hello Kitty and Sanrio style tulips and daisies holding it in place. Other "sticker" designs shaped like elements such as a Sanrio-style crown, shoe, milk, star, rainbow, mushroom, and heart-shaped diamond surround it. What's also special about this image is that each shoe has a different photo. The character's expressions and poses are slightly changed, which is a great touch. On the inside of each show, the traditional Converse All Star ankle logo appears. That side also features additional "stickers" resembling things like strawberries and cherries. The heel patch license plate also proudly proclaims "Hello Kitty and Friends" with her red bow on the upper right corner on both shoes.
But when you start looking closer, it gets even more fun. On the right shoe, there are rainbow and cloud charms on the laces, and the left has blue sneaker and yellow star ones. The upper-most eyelets each look like silver Hello Kitty bows. They're these little things that when you really look, you see there are extra nods to the characters and accents Sanrio includes with designs for its mascots, and they're carefully woven into the overall look. But at the same time, the Converse x Hello Kitty and Friends Chuck Taylor All Star Picnic high-top sneakers aren't inundated with those extras. I think the eyelet design is one of my favorite parts.
One of, because my actual favorite is something most people will never see and unfortunately will probably degrade with ordinary use. There are custom insoles for the Converse x Hello Kitty and Friends Chuck Taylor All Star Picnic high-tops that look like notebook paper and carry on the theme with their own design. The one in the right shoe is a little less exciting, as it just says "Converse" and "Hello Kitty and Friends" with the heart diamond, star, and crown "stickers" surrounding the logos. The left shoe, however, features additional "pictures" of the Sanrio mascots. It looks like a strip that comes out of a photo booth. At the top, Keroppi, Cinnamoroll, and Hello Kitty are together. The middle has Pochacco, Tuxedosam, Chococat, and Pompompurin striking a pose. The third feels like My Melody and Kuromi are fangirling over Badtz Maru. Again, the fake washi tape is "affixing" it to the lined notebook paper, with star and daisy "stickers" around it. It's so good (and also so comfortable), so I know I have to leave it in and use it. But I've already taken so many pictures so I'll remember how it looked after months and years of wear and tear.
Oh, right. These 100% feel like standard Converse quality shoes. The insoles are really substantial and comfortable, so they feel like they are for actual use and not just decoration. The picnic plaid of this particular design also feels really versatile and like it could go with lots of different outfits. The canvas fabric feels sturdy too. At the same time, since it isn't a plain, white sneaker with accents, I'm a little less concerned about them getting dirty. Sure, the outsole is white, but since there aren't any additional decorations on them aside from the black line, it'll be easy enough to clean. (I've been wiping down the sides and the toe cap, just to be safe.) Converse also provides pretty detailed instructions for cleaning and it isn't too difficult, especially since I'd want to hand-wash them and not toss limited edition shoes into a machine, so I'm feeling confident they'll hold up.
Basically, I feel like the Converse x Hello Kitty and Friends Chuck Taylor All Star Picnic high-top sneakers are limited edition shoes I don't have to "baby." I can actually wear and enjoy them. The design also means the Sanrio homage is also pretty obvious, but not garish. They feel like a practical sort of splurge.
The Sanrio Converse Hello Kitty and Friends shoe collection and accessory lineup is available now.

While we see quite a few Voltage otome games appearing on other platforms, primarily the Switch, the company started with mobile titles. These tended to roll out in chapter-based releases, with new characters gradually added. Court of Darkness: Temptation's Kiss is one of those otome titles that started out as a Love 365 app release, and it's one that's gradually grown with additional "books" and love interests like Rio Voleri. Now that it's on the Switch, it's a great move for preservation purposes, but is an incomplete port that doesn't go past Book 2 or offer all the prince or valet romance options.
Court of Darkness: Temptation's Kiss begins with a young woman who's living alone with her pet cat, Robin. Her parents passed away years ago, so she's accustomed to getting by on her own. However, one night when she looks outside, she happens to see an unusual blood moon in the sky. When she does, she falls into a deep sleep and wakes up magical alternate world called Saligia. But she's not alone. Five princes named Fenn, Guy, Lynt, Roy, and Toa are all around her. After inadvertently touching some of them, they discover doing so amplifies their magic powers. It's then that the headmaster of the academy where she apparently awoke tells them to get back and places her under the school's protection. What follows means getting used to these unusual individuals, finding out why she has this ability, and perhaps discovering a way forward that could lead her home again.
Since Court of Darkness: Temptation's Kiss is a port of one of the Voltage mobile otome games, that means the Switch version UI does follow that aesthetic. When you start, you'll be able to pick the common prologue to find out what's going on and how your avatar ended up at the academy in Saligia, surrounded by princes, on the night of a blood moon. You can then also select which of the five love interests' routes you want to see and read through the Book 1-2 stories and Book 1 Consort Paths. This does mean the flow is a bit different, if you're more accustomed to Voltage's other Switch games like Neon Clashor The Red Bell's Lamentor titles from Aksys and Idea Factory International. It isn't necessarily bad and I can attest that you'll get used to it, but it does feel very different and some might find it breaks up the flow and pacing.
Once you do get into a Court of Darkness: Temptation's Kiss Book, it does feel like a traditional otome visual novel. You'll be doing a lot of reading while looking at character portraits and CGs of different characters. Again, since this was originally a mobile otome game, it might not feature the same sort of character designs and artistic directions as others. However, I do appreciate that there are different portraits for major characters to change their perspective or pose, and the designs do have a pleasant sort of 1990s and 2000s aesthetic to it.
Likewise, the story takes that sort of approach as well. There's the whole magical academy element, adding some school life themes to it. However, the fact that the main heroine can boost the power of the royal romance options adds a twist, and finding out why does add a hint of mystery. Speaking of twists, there aren't too many present here due to this only going up through Book 2. However, the character development is still rather solid. Likewise, the localization ended up being better than I expected, or rather stronger than I remembered, which is another plus.
Like I mentioned earlier, the main downside to Court of Darkness: Temptation's Kiss is that the Switch version isn't as up-to-date as the mobile ones. We don't get characters like Rio, Jasper Lane, Lance Ira, or Tino Maes. While that's understandable and easier to deal with, the lack of additional books ends up feeling more disappointing. From what I recall, the app's gotten into Book 6 for some characters' and the Fenn, Guy, Lynt, Roy, and Toa stories only go up to Book 2 here. It means we're left off on a cliffhanger. While I really do enjoy this story, not getting the full experience and needing to then head into Love 365 if we really enjoyed it and want to see what's next is a shame.
I applaud the fact that Voltage does preserve its mobile otome games with Switch ports like Court of Darkness: Temptation's Kiss, but wish there was more to this one. It's a really fun story involving magic and school life, and the heroine actually has a personality and speaks up so she isn't a total blank slate. The love interests included are interesting too. Unfortunate, we aren't even halfway into each of the routes for the characters who are present, and people need to head to another source and potentially spend more money to find out what happens next.
Court of Darkness: Temptation's Kiss is available on the Switch, and the ongoing otome game is part of the Love 365 mobile app.

In recent times, games have become bigger than ever. The quality of the content doesn't even matter anymore, so long as a title has as much stuff in it as possible, coherent or not.
Crimson Desert, while it pays special heed to the quality of its content, is a game that genuinely has so many things in it that it becomes super difficult to keep track of it all. One mechanic, which has players confused with no proper explanation, is your Lantern suddenly emitting a blue glow when you pass through certain areas.
Since you've almost certainly seen this at least once, here's what it means exactly.
Crimson Desert Lantern glowing blue
If you've walked by an area and suddenly saw your Lantern glow blue, it is because you've come near a memory fragment, which can be interacted with for new information, either about a specific task or just the lore and the world of Pywel. Once your Lantern starts glowing, you need to use it and point it toward the memory, which you will sometimes have to search a bit for.
Once you've pointed it at the memory, showing up in the game as blurry figures moving around, you're going to concentrate on it until the learning bar fills up. Once it does, equip the Visione helmet you got from one of the main quests and then hit the prompt given to you on the bottom right of your screen (ESC button for PC users).
By doing so, you will have entered the memory fragment and will be able to watch the memory unfold, providing you with extra context or information and allowing you to see Pywel from another's perspective, even if it doesn't end up giving you the extra knowledge necessary to complete a quest.
Memory fragments can be found just about anywhere in the world, though I've most often come across them in areas that experienced some strong emotions, such as grave sites, burned buildings, the St. Halssius House of Healing, and so on.

Puzzles are the most crucial but also the most confusing aspect of Crimson Desert, whose vast world of Pywel features dozens, if not hundreds, of puzzles for players to engage with and solve, both as bonus and mandatory content.
During the game's earliest stages, players will come across several puzzles that seem, well, puzzling, and without the title ever holding your hand or helping you solve them, they can become real roadblocks and perhaps even cause players to quit the game on the spot.
One of these requires you to visit the Ancient Ruins landmark and solve the puzzle within, allowing you to unravel the secrets the place is hiding.
So, here's what you need to do.
Unravel the secrets of the Ancient Ruins quest in Crimson Desert
Once you come up to the Ancient Ruins, you're going to have to go inside the room and observe the three wheels on the wall. One of them pops out of the wall and can clearly be manipulated by external forces. That is where you come in, as you're going to have to move the three circles to make all three embedded flat within the wall.
With that information, I'm letting you go back to the puzzle and give it a few more tries, as the solution has been within your skill set for at least some time by the moment you've walked into the Ancient Ruins.
- Solution beyond this point -
For those who do not want to spend time on this puzzle, the solution requires you to use Force Palm on the popped-out circles, which will then push out some others, asking you to figure out the right sequence.
The sequence is middle, right, and then left, which will then embed all three wheels and start the Ancient Ruins' mystical energy, unlocking its local fast travel point.
There are several puzzles necessary to unlock Abyss Nexuses for fast travel in Crimson Desert, including the one huge question mark near the Greymane camp where you get your own humble abode to rest in and to customize.

Retro Rewind: Video Store Simulator puts you in charge of your own movie-rental store in the 90s, and you can use the SKU codes of a film to acquire a specific tape. As a store owner, you'll always want to acquire new movies for your potential clients. There's a bit of randomness associated with the process, but that can be solved by using SKU codes.
Let's find out how to use SKU codes and how to find new ones.
Table of contents
How to use SKU codes in Retro Rewind: Video Store Simulator
The SKU code is the identification system of any movie tape that someone can rent from you. Every tape has a unique code. To use the code, you first have to view it via Inspection (more on that later).
When you open your PC and go to the market to order new tapes, you'll have two options. You can either purchase individual titles or bundles that come with random movies. However, there's a Black Market option you can exploit.
The Black Market allows you to order a pirated version of specific movies by using the SKU code. Enter the code, and you'll be able to order a pirated version. This allows you to get specific movie titles, which can also include ones with perfect ratings.
However, ordering pirated copies is an expensive activity. Pirated movies cost significantly more to acquire, and I won't recommend going the SKU code route too frequently (unless you have more in-game cash than you need).
How to get SKU codes in Retro Rewind: Video Store Simulator
To view SKU codes, you have to pick up a tape and then inspect it. If you refer to the image above, you'll find the SKU code right above the Review Score. If you want to find more codes, the best option is to use this database. You'll find over 1,000 codes already, with more being added by the community.
SKU codes for movies appear to be the same for all players, which allows you to purchase whatever movie catches your fancy. Once again, don't purchase pirated tapes using the codes because that will prove to be extremely expensive. If you want to offer a good variety to viewers, it's simply better to get them from the reseller's market using your store PC.
