Tinker Racers Review

The bygone days of Micro Machines were all fine and dandy, but what if you were to raise these pint-sized stakes to something a little bigger? Rumbora Party Games lays it all on the line with their new title Tinker Racers, a top-down racer with an elimination edge. Should you put the pedal to the metal, or does this racer blow it at the starting line?

Tinker Racers Review

The perspective and general control scheme made famous decades ago is alive and well in Tinker Racers. Players will speed along offices, bedrooms, and kitchens in a top down viewpoint, drifting at every turn and outpacing their opponents. Threats include cutting board ramps, runaway marbles, and the odd stapler across each track.

However, in the main campaign mode, it's not enough that you win – others must fail. In order to get ahead, players must lead the pack and leave others in the dust. By getting in the lead and having the camera get your opponents out of frame, you can eliminate the competition and score a point, with the first person to five points winning the round.

This proposition certainly keeps players on their toes, especially when threats stand in the way between you and victory. While the control scheme plays it fast and loose with drifts along every turn, this system provides a number of clutch moments. The AI is balanced just right, without coming across as brain dead or overly cheap. The environment can often be a bigger obstacle than the rival racers, but familiarity and memorization help a great deal – just like the best arcade racers on the market.

It also pays to know the environments in Tinker Racers due to the health mechanic in its campaign mode. Your ride can get damaged, with it starting at 100% and gradually deteriorating with any bump along the way. Though we appreciate this mechanic, we never came across any instance where we were in any danger.

Though the Campaign of Tinker Racers can be finished fairly quickly, there is a fair amount to keep players going. A Dark Mode can be unlocked, while Time Trials with developer times are just begging to be beaten. Single Races with five laps can also be jumped into, though tracks must be unlocked. Finally, a Free for All mode serves as a way to enjoy the title with less pressure. In all, the 32 achievements based on times, scores, and finishing tracks will keep players racing.

Just be warned that there is little variety between each track. Though there are multiple tracks, expect to see the same worlds multiple times. Seeing the sixth version of a bedroom track just lacks the impact of a fresh environment.

Tinker Racers pint-sized racers put the pressure on with its elimination-based gameplay. Though this title favors crazy drifting over tight controls, those who can get a grip on its mechanics will have fun trouncing the competition.

This review of Tinker Racers was done on the PC. The game was purchased digitally.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Getting Fall Update

Starting September 30, players will be able to experience a fall wonderland in Nintendo's Animal Crossing: New Horizons as part of a free update.

Players will be able to grow pumpkins by paying a visit to Leif (year-round) or from Nook's Cranny (during October). From there, players can take advantage of a number of pumpkin-based DIY projects.

Halloween costumes like a mage's dress can be yours at the Able Sisters shop throughout October. Body paint and colored eye contacts can also be yours by exchanging Nook Miles. Halloween DIY projects from your fellow residents can be found, and neighbors will also get into the spooky spirit on Halloween night with their own costumes.

After 5pm on October 31, neighbors will make their way to the decorated plaza. The mysterious guest Jack wants lollipops and candy, and giving him what he wants will earn you spooky in-game rewards. Save some candy for your neighbors as well, or you might find yourself getting pranked. New Reactions to properly express your feelings of fear can also be learned.

To make things easier, players can easily revisit dreams from a list.

Finally, the NookLink Service in the Nintendo Switch Online smartphone app will receive an update in early October. With the update, you'll be able to use your smart device to perform Reactions in the console version.

SCARLET NEXUS × THE ORAL CIGARETTES「 Dream In Drive 」Special Movie

Taking place in the far distant future, Scarlet Nexus features a major problem from the outset. Deranged mutants that are known as Others have began their descent from the sky, each possessing a thirst for human brains. Those that have acute extra-sensory abilities, dubbed psionics, are society's only chance to fight this onslaught. In order to combat these Others, the Other Suppression Force (OSF) was formed. What follows is a complex story of courage, bonds, and heroism that was crafted by minds behind the classic JRPG Tales of Vesperia.

In this title, players will follow the story of new OSF recruit Yuito Sumeragi, who has grand plans to become an elite psionic like the one that rescued him as a child. With this goal in mind, players will be able to explore the city of New Himuka and uncover the mysteries of a Brain Punk future.

The game will come out for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Cosplay Wednesday – Crash Bandicoot (Harajuku Style)

The world of gaming's biggest orange marsupial returns with Toys for Bob's upcoming release of Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time. In honor of this retro revival, Gamers Heroes takes a look at a unique rendition of the main character.

Modeled by Ellie, Australian photographer KayleighJune got these unique shots of Crash Bandicoot in a Harajuku style. This is part of a project that she did with Leisa Stephenson (who did the makeup), where they take inspiration from specific video games and combine it with the Japanese Harajuku style to create a series of fashion images. To complete the look, Carly Lancaster did the styling.

Though she mentioned that this is not cosplay, we are willing to bend the rules and feature it as part of our segment this week.
