Kotaku Wednesday, February 16, 2022 7:30 AM Did you hear? Nintendo is culling the Wii U and 3DS eShops. Some people are surprised, but others aren't. Everyone has an opinion, though. Even you. |
Kotaku Wednesday, February 16, 2022 6:30 AM Nintendo's decision to shutter the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U eShops doesn't only impact games, but other things like Pokémon Bank. While it might become impossible to play certain games, the Pokémon app will live on—but not forever. |
PCGamesN Wednesday, February 16, 2022 7:29 AM AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution, otherwise known as AMD FSR, is one of the easiest ways to boost fps on any gaming PC. While this usually requires developers to implement the upscaling technology into their games individually, Valve has released a new version of SteamOS that boasts a system-wide integration of the feature for the Steam Deck via Gamescope. With this update, the portable powerhouse can now increase the performance of any game by using FSR, while simultaneously improving its battery life. Benchmarks conducted by ThePhawx, show that enabling FSR in games like Control can boost battery life by over an hour, with minimal impact on visual quality. However, if you'd rather prioritise performance over playtime, then FSR will undoubtedly help get demanding games running at higher frame rates. Just bear in mind that the Steam Deck has a 60Hz display, so it'd probably be best to cap your frame rate to 60fps regardless. PCGamesN Wednesday, February 16, 2022 7:03 AM Are you searching for the bunker locations in Warzone Pacific? Call of Duty Vanguard and Warzone Season 2 is the biggest update to the battle royale game since Caldera replaced '80s Verdansk. In addition to the KG M40 assault rifle and Whitley LMG, the map has been updated with new locations to explore. Caldera's locked bunkers and hatches are open to anyone, if you know where to find them. Similar to Verdansk back when Warzone first launched, Caldera also features locked off areas that are due to be explored in future updates. Season 2 unlocks seven of the 12 locked bunkers, giving players access to underground chemical weapon research labs. These labs contain lots of loot, including the brand new Nebula V bombs, ammo, and P.D.S. stations that allow you to avoid taking damage from the poisonous circle collapse gas. We expect the remaining locked areas to burst open prior to the launch of Warzone 2 later this year. There appears to be a morse code machine in each of the bunkers, but the secret message has yet to be deciphered. Here are the locations of every bunker in Warzone Pacific. |
PCGamesN Wednesday, February 16, 2022 6:44 AM Some of World of Warcraft's rarer mounts could soon be easier to obtain. In response to some ongoing player frustration over the X-45 Heartbreaker's reportedly low drop rate in this year's in-game Valentine's Day event, a Blizzard developer has agreed that the general holiday mount grind doesn't make for a "great experience". The team is considering changes, though you shouldn't expect them to be implemented before the current Love Is In The Air holiday event ends. "I've done the event a dozen times a day on my characters before in previous years and probably would be doing it again this year if I didn't have other real-life stuff going on," WoW dev Chimes says. "Right now, if you want to maximise your chance of getting the mount, it's in your best interest to repeat this event every day on as many characters as possible. That's mathematically correct, but not a great experience. "We hear this frustration and the good news is that we're discussing this issue amongst the team and evaluating possible solutions for holiday events in general. The bad news is that even if we do end up making changes, they wouldn't be in time for this year's Love Is In the Air holiday event." PCGamesN Wednesday, February 16, 2022 6:35 AM The marriage between the Total War series and Warhammer, has given us two fantastic games so far - and the third one looks set to become another classic strategy game. If you're someone who's keen to get their hands on this game on day one (without a PC Game Pass subscription), the good news is that you can now pre-order it from Fanatical for 21% off the launch price. So what sets Total War: Warhammer III apart from its two prequels? Well, for one thing, this game sees the introduction of several new races. Warhammer fans will be pleased to see the inclusion of the Grand Cathay and Kislev civilisations, based on Imperial China and Mediaeval Russia, respectively. On top of that, the game also includes factions based on the four Chaos Gods, Khorne, Tzeentch, Nurgle, and Slaanesh. All the new races will enhance Total War: Warhammer III's multiplayer mode, but what about players who are more interested in the single player experience? Rest assured, the game has you covered on that front too. The game's story focuses on the four Ruinous Powers within The Realm of Chaos, who seek to plunge the world into darkness. With this realm beyond the world, the Grand Cathay and Kislev empires are brought into contact, even though they'd never have crossed paths before. PCGamesN Wednesday, February 16, 2022 6:52 AM When is the Total War: Warhammer 3 release time? Creative Assembly finally and officially announced Warhammer III in May 2021, and everyone's very excited. The latest Total War strategy game and the third entry in the popular Total Warhammer series from Creative Assembly will shift focus to the east of the Warhammer Fantasy world, with a renewed look at the forces of Chaos. Fan favourite faction Kislev returns from the first game as a fully-fledged launch nation, valiantly trying to defend the realms of man from the forces of Chaos. They are joined by the warriors of Grand Cathay, which is being brought to life for the first time in Warhammer III. The Chaos faction itself has also been fleshed out, with all four iconic 'flavours' of Chaos getting the full treatment. Plenty of other details have also been revealed since the original announcement, which we've summarised for you below. This is a living article which we will try and keep up-to-date as new information gets announced. If there's enough to talk about, we may also decide to spin-out dedicated guides for certain topics, which we'll link to below so you can access the information. PCGamesN Wednesday, February 16, 2022 6:28 AM If you're a League of Legends fan, you'll know that the MOBA game regularly receives hefty patches full of new champion skins, balance changes, and more. These arrive roughly once every two weeks - usually mid-week - and get a good round of testing on League's public beta environment (PBE) over the fortnight or so leading up to their live debuts. While they can vary in scale, with some patches ushering in significant new events and content while others focus more on a core set of adjustments to fine tune gameplay balancing, they're always a really important part of the game. As such, it's important for fans - veterans and newbies, alike - to get an idea of when each patch is coming, and what'll be in it when it drops. The good news is, we've got you covered. Riot Games has now unveiled the League of Legends 2022 patch schedule, which kicks off with League of Legends patch 12.1 on Tuesday, January 4, 2022. Below, we've laid out all of the release dates for the League of Legends patches coming up in 2022 for season 12, and when our regular patch notes go up we'll link them below, too, so you've got all you need to know in one place. PCGamesN Wednesday, February 16, 2022 6:28 AM The updates keep on coming, LoL fans. League of Legends patch 12.4 has made its way to the live Rift, bringing a raft of new skins, champion balance changes, and - of course - steely new Champon Renata Glasc. That means it's now time to see what's headed our way with its follow-up update. While the latest round of skins gave Kassadin, Shen, and Qiyana some dazzling new Shockblade styles, this fortnight's offerings are fare more whimsical. Let's take a look. The new skins coming with League of Legends patch 12.5 add more champions to the game's Bees! alternate universe, with four new looks on the way. As you'd expect, the names are pun-tastic, with Heimerstinger, Nunu and Beelump, Orbeeanna, and BZZZiggs joining the skin line. You can check out the in-game clips of these in action and their splash art in the skins section below. As is very often the case when a fresh patch hits the PBE, there aren't any balance changes up for testing just yet, but we can probably expect a bunch to arrive there soon for a test drive. So, keep an eye on these notes as we'll update them with everything you need to know ahead of the patch's launch. PCGamesN Wednesday, February 16, 2022 6:00 AM The first glimpse of Dune: Spice Wars gameplay has been shown off in a new trailer, giving fans an initial look at how the promising 4X strategy game is going to play. The Dune gameplay trailer shows how players will go about their conquest of the planet Arrakis, alongside the reveal of how one of the series' iconic sandworm attacks will occur in Spice Wars. Following its announcement at the 2021 Game Awards, its developers have stated that Dune: Spice Wars will be more of a 4X-RTS strategy game hybrid than previous Dune games - such as Dune 2, which was arguably the template for the entire RTS genre. However, while Northgard developer Spiro Games has released bits and pieces of information, this is the first time it has released any actual gameplay. You can watch the gameplay trailer below, and it shows the major influence of 4X strategy games on Dune: Spice Wars - as players are tasked with sending scouts and armies out into the sands of Arrakis and slowly conquering territories while fending off attacks from rival Houses. |
PCGamesN Wednesday, February 16, 2022 6:50 AM The Total War: Warhammer 3 release date is nearly here, so you might be itching to get started if you've been reading the reviews. Critics have broadly given the strategy game a nine-out-of-ten score across the board, including our own editor extraordinaire - you can read the Total War: Warhammer 3 review here, if you fancy it. With launch day looming, though, Creative Assembly has spelled out when exactly you'll be able to play Total War: Warhammer 3. If you're looking to prepare your PC for the big launch, the good news is that you can pre-load Total War: Warhammer 3 now. The pre-launch feature went live on February 15 at 3pm GMT / 10am EST / 7am PST, so you should be good to get started. PCGamesN Wednesday, February 16, 2022 6:27 AM An ogre's appetite may be without equal, but don't discount these brutes' prowess in battle among Warhammer's many factions. Something that the ogre tribes of Total War: Warhammer 3 understand all too well is that there are fewer things greater in life than good food. Fortunately for them, there's plenty of both man and beast of all flavours and textures to devour and sample across the world. An appetite is a powerful thing, leading many a gluttonous ogre down from the Mountains of Mourn on countless journeys to quash their ravenous hunger. You'll often find them practising as mercenaries, offering their muscle in exchange for gold and grub, with Maneaters being the most worldly and versatile fighters among their kin. Many ogres answer to the tyrant Greasus Goldtooth, or as he is known by his full title Tradelord Greasus Tribestealer Drakecrush Gatecrasher Hoardmaster Goldtooth the Shockingly Obese. He is undoubtedly the most powerful and fattest ogre in existence, but there is yet an even higher power that these lumbering hulks worship: the Great Maw. PCGamesN Wednesday, February 16, 2022 5:20 AM Want to know about gold in Lost Ark? Smilegate's new MMO is a free game, which means it's got its own array of different in-game currencies. Some can primarily be earned through in-game actions, while others are premium currencies that you pay for using real money. Lost Ark gold is somewhere between the two, and we've put together this guide to explain everything you need to know. Lost Ark gold is mainly used as a currency that is traded between players, but it also feeds into some of the gear upgrading systems present in the game. It's one of seven currencies that is currently shared between all characters on a player's account and not tied to a specific Lost Ark server. It's also a lot rarer than silver, the primary free in-game currency. When you're trading gold between players, there is a tax that you need to pay. This is also the case when buying or selling things on the in-game auction house, which usually comes with a gold cost. Gold can also be used for things like furnishing a player's private house, or even converting it into premium currency like blue crystals. PCGamesN Wednesday, February 16, 2022 5:31 AM So you want to know about the Lost Ark Power Pass? Alt characters are an understated facet of MMO games and in Lost Ark's case it's almost expected that you have many alts to feed resources into a few core characters, especially if you're trying to farm currency like Lost Ark gold and silver. But even if you want to have more than one main character - perhaps there are a few Lost Ark classes that catch your eye - levelling each one to the max level can be a pain. Thankfully, the developers of this highly anticipated game understand this and are here to give you a boost - the Power Pass. This handy consumable lets you level another new character from level 10 to level 50 rapidly through what is called an 'Adventurers' Path' quest, which is a condensed version of the typical journey a player would go through. It guides your alt-character through the key beats of your class progression so that you don't end up with a new max-level character that you don't understand how to use. But how do you get one of these coveted boosts? Here's everything you need to know about the Lost Ark Power Pass. PCGamesN Wednesday, February 16, 2022 4:42 AM So you want to know about Lost Ark servers? They say the most stressful decision in any MMO game is deciding which character class to pick first, but really it's choosing which server to jump into. This is especially important when you're planning to play a game with friends - you'll want to make sure you're all playing on the same server. So while you may already know which Lost Ark class you want to try out first, you'll need to nail your server choice. If you are playing with friends, it might be worth sharing the server list with them so you can have a conversation about it. Note that North America is split into two region groupings, and the east coast possesses more server options than the west coast. Europe has the largest selection of servers, and there are a couple of South American server options as well. We've put together this guide so you can see what the current server list is, how to check your server's status, as well as other commonly asked questions such as whether you can change a character's server and which content can be played across servers. Enjoy! RELATED LINKS: Best MMOS and MMORPGs on PC, Upcoming PC games, Best fantasy games on PC |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Wednesday, February 16, 2022 6:33 AM The huge new patch released for Cyberpunk 2077 yesterday is mostly a good'un, bringing the dystopian RPG closer to the game it should have been 14 months ago. But Update 1.5 might be bad news for players with older PCs. CD Projekt Red have officially ended support for Nvidia GeForce 700 series graphics cards, and announced plans to end Windows 7 support later this year. This isn't immediately bad, but the game could end up breaking on affected computers in the future. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Wednesday, February 16, 2022 5:24 AM While Valve have strongly recommended against opening up your Steam Deck yourself, they did hint last year that you would be able to buy replacement parts to fix bits. Yesterday they announced the first authorised reseller, iFixit, a site which offers parts and repair guides for phones and Macs and things. It's not yet clear how many of the handheld PC's parts will be sold officially, though Valve had previously suggested they might include "thumbsticks, SSDs, and possibly more". |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Wednesday, February 16, 2022 4:30 AM Grey is in. Don't take it from me, take it from the Carpet Man. I had to buy new carpet recently, and Carpet Man told me that the only shade of carpet anyone wants nowadays is grey, resting one hand on his hip and the other on a pile of pile. He seemed weary, but livened up as I picked through some beige. Eventually I decided on corn, a warm yellow to keep things light and breezy. To both my relief and, I think, the relief of the Carpet Man, it wasn't grey. The shade that, for whatever reason, most people like to walk on. One that tires Carpet Man and reminds me of Lost Ark, an MMO that's supremely popular for some reason. No matter how chic it may be right now, I can't see it being a permanent fixture in my life. |

Siliconera Wednesday, February 16, 2022 7:30 AM There are no plans for Tales of Arise to receive an anime adaptation. In an interview with Famitsu, Tales of series and Tales of Arise Producer Yusuke Tomizawa revealed that the title will not receive an animated adaptation despite several Tales of titles receiving anime adaptations in the past. This has included Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Abyss. Recently, Bandai Namco made episodes of Tales of Abyss available to watch entirely for free through its official YouTube channel. [Thanks, Famitsu!] That said, Tthis is what Tomizawa had to say regarding a Tales of Arise anime adaptation:
He went on to mention the new introduction video by ufotable. The introduction video includes animated segments of various points in the story. Additionally, it shows off several key characters that appear throughout. The introduction video came after the release Tales of Arise. However, Tales of Arise does feature an animated opening by ufotable. Tales of Arise is available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC. Siliconera Wednesday, February 16, 2022 7:00 AM In an interview with Famitsu, Tales of series Producer Yusuke Tomizawa revealed that he would like to create something special for the 30th anniversary of the series. Additionally, as Tomizawa is also the Producer for Tales of Arise, the interview dove into various details regarding the development of the title. This included some difficulties that arose due to COVID-19. Tomizawa also revealed that the delay ultimately made the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X releases of Tales of Arise possible. The titles were not intended to come to either platform initially. [Thanks, Famitsu!] However, concerning the upcoming Tales of 30th anniversary, Producer Yusuke Tomizawa said this:
Tomizawa ended the statement by apologizing for his vagueness. However, he also stated that he will do his best to deliver more information sometime within 2022. He did not clarify what this information could potentially entail. Tales of Arise is available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC. Siliconera Wednesday, February 16, 2022 6:00 AM Due to the discontinuation of the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U eShops, several games will make changes on how they handle DLC in the store. For Fire Emblem: Fates, all 3DS DLC (including maps and Revelation) will no longer appear in the shop after March 2023. While the DLC will be available for re-download if you purchased it in the past, Nintendo plans to fully remove it in the future. [Thanks, Game Watch!] DLC for Fire Emblem: Fates includes bonus maps that provide exclusive classes and extra resources. However, the most jarring DLC that will no longer be available is perhaps the Revelation path. Though it is DLC, it is the final act of the story. Similar to Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Fates has three paths with different stories and units. Unlike Three Houses, the Fates routes are split across three separate games. Those who wanted to experience the Nohr story needed to purchase Conquest and those who wanted the Hoshido story had to buy Birthright. Revelation is the third path in which you get access to units from both countries, allowing new parent combinations for your child units. It also reveals new secrets about the world and characters. Because of these factors, this route is arguably the "true end" of the game. Even if you played both Conquest and Birthright, you would not have the full story or a certain ending without Revelation. However, Revelation is only available digitally (unless you purchased the Special Edition). Fire Emblem: Fates is readily available on Nintendo 3DS. All DLC for Fire Emblem: Fates will disappear from the Nintendo 3DS eShop in late March 2023, so you will need to download it onto your device before then. Siliconera Wednesday, February 16, 2022 5:30 AM Don't run to the bank just yet. The Pokémon Bank application will survive the end of the Nintendo 3DS eShop. An announcement from The Pokémon Company's official Twitter account and website confirmed that users will have Pokémon Bank access for free of charge when the 3DS eShop is shuttered in March 2023. https://twitter.com/Pokemon_cojp/status/1493767114968158208 Pokémon Bank is a downloadable 3DS application that allows players to store their collected Pokémon from multiple games online, rather than the local storage of their 3DS unit. Players can store up to 3,000 Pokémon online, on top of whatever storage space is available in the game itself. The app requires a subscription fee of $4.99 per year, and a 30-day free trial. Pokémon Bank also comes with Poké Transporter, a separate app that allows the transfer of Pokémon from Pokémon Black and White. According to The Pokémon Company, the Pokémon Bank application and service will work normally until the 3DS eShop shuts down in March 2023. After that, the service will become free to use for anyone that already downloaded the app. The free period will last for an unspecified "limited" time. The Pokémon Company didn't confirm if the Pokémon Bank service itself will receive maintenance indefinitely after the 3DS eShop closure. But, for now, Pokémon X & Y players can continue to avail of those functions for at least another year or so, should they decide to start soon. Pokémon Bank is still available on the Nintendo 3DS. The 3DS and Wii U eShops are scheduled to close in March of 2023. The post Pokémon Bank Service Will Be Free After 3DS eShop Shutdown appeared first on Siliconera. |
