Developers Petroglyph have gone for historical accuracy in various ways, senior designer Chris Becker and audio director Frank Klepacki explain to me at a hands-off demo in Cologne. The soundtrack will even include licensed music from the era. Some of them reimagine past levels such as Green Hill and Chemical Plant, which many fans rightly see as redundant since the last decade has seen most Sonic installments doing the exact same thing. On the other hand, several fans stated that they would find the reuse of level themes acceptable as long as these stages boasted original layouts. Unfortunately for the latter group, it looks like the cyberspace stages in Sonic Frontiers copy not just past themes, but past level layouts as well. It all started yesterday when footage of the Gamescom demo first dropped online. When analyzing footage of the first cyberspace stage, which uses Green Hill's aesthetics, eagle-eyed fans noticed that its layout closely matches that of Windmill Isle Act 1, the tutorial stage of Sonic Unleashed. This was announced earlier today via the official Dark Souls Twitter account, which thanked fans for their patience. Dark Souls 3 players will now finally be able to access the game's online features, including PvP and messages. However, the other Dark Souls games have not had their servers restored just yet. Dark Souls players have been without online features since February. FromSoftware was forced to shut them down after a nasty security vulnerability was found. This issue allowed hackers to install malware and take control of other players' PCs. Obviously, this was a huge problem, so it made sense for FromSoftware to take drastic action. But it was still a shame to be without these features for so long.
