Kotaku Tuesday, September 27, 2022 5:50 PM Not gonna lie: I think weapon durability sucks. For all its supposed realism, I find the mechanic cumbersome and needlessly complicating. So you can imagine I haven't been too keen to hear that Dambuster Studios just made extensive comments defending the mechanic's presence in its upcoming Dead Island 2, saying it… |

Kotaku Tuesday, September 27, 2022 4:36 PM With Overwatch 2's launch just a week away, Blizzard spilled more details about what will be different in the free-to-play sequel, and it's sounding rough. Kotaku Tuesday, September 27, 2022 1:30 PM Warner Bros. just released a new trailer to tell you how beautiful Gotham Knights will be on your PC, as if to reassure everyone that this time, it's getting the PC version right. Kotaku Tuesday, September 27, 2022 11:47 AM Cyberpunk 2077's launch has been one of the messiest in recent history. Praised in many initial reviews on PC, so broken on last-gen consoles it was pulled from the PlayStation Store, and then saddled with post-launch delays as players waited for promised fixes and new content. Kotaku Tuesday, September 27, 2022 10:01 AM Art generated by AI is proving a very contentious issue, raising enormous amounts of concern among artists about their potential replacement by machine learning, let alone the ethical questions about whether an algorithm studying thousands of other people's creations is fair to the original creators. PCGamesN Tuesday, September 27, 2022 4:35 PM Since early this year, we've known that PUBG creator Brendan 'PlayerUnknown' Greene has been working on something big - he's shown off a tech demo that produced 64x64km squares of runtime generated terrain, and said that it's a 'proof of concept' for a sandbox game on the planetary scale. In a new interview, Greene and his collaborator David Polfeldt, the former managing director of Ubisoft Massive, shed more light on the project and what Greene hopes to accomplish. It sounds a lot like a metaverse, but without the usual corporate buzzwords and brands attached. Greene and Polfeldt are the subjects of former Edge Magazine editor Nathan Brown's latest Hit Points newsletter on Substack, and the entire article is worth a read. Greene's project, it seems, got off to a rocky start, and he takes the blame for that - he didn't have experience managing large teams of developers, and this resulted in some inopportune hires of people who weren't right for the project. PCGamesN Tuesday, September 27, 2022 1:21 PM Skyrim mods are often labours of love, made with little to no expectation of financial gain. They're made for the simple love of making something. Justin 'JDAnchor' Schroeder is a modder with exactly that ethos, and he's currently battling an rare, complicated, and potentially fatal health condition. But in an awesome display of kindness, players of Bethesda's RPG game are coming together the raise the funds he needs for a life-saving emergency surgery, via GoFundMe. PCGamesN Tuesday, September 27, 2022 12:56 PM The FIFA 23 anti cheat error is an instant stumbling block some PC players are running into when trying to boot up the game for the first time, whether it's through Origin or Steam. This is preventing anyone who encounters the bug from playing the football game, although it doesn't appear to be a problem for anyone on other platforms. The error appears to manifest in two ways: either by preventing the game from loading up at all with a simple black screen and needing to force quit, or an actual error message in the anti cheat itself that reads "EA AntiCheat Service encountered an error. Please restart the game." Here's what you need to know about fixing this frustrating issue. |
PCGamesN Tuesday, September 27, 2022 12:54 PM What are the best card games on PC? It is not a question we would have been asking a few years ago, when some basic ports of paper-based systems and some minigames in larger titles were all we had access to. Now, there are heaps of games like Hearthstone vying to be among the best card games on PC - it is one of the quickest growing genres in the industry. The best card games offer players a rich and constantly shifting meta, potentially limitless replayability, and are approachable to boot - so it is not hard to see why card games have taken off in recent years. What that means is somebody (us) needs to lay down the objective truth (subjective opinion) on which are best card games on PC (the ones we enjoy the most). We will cover everything from the biggest player in the genre today (you will never guess which that is), the best ports from paper, the up-and-comers you might not have heard of, and some of the best free card games out there. PCGamesN Tuesday, September 27, 2022 12:36 PM The FIFA 23 McGeady spin is a skill that can get you out of a tight spot, and it's also a requirement of the Mbappe Rising Star Moments challenge. The skill was popularised by ex-Everton winger Aiden McGeady, and sees the player turn a full 90 degrees with the ball and accelerate out of the spin to the point where, if performed correctly in the football game, the defender just cannot follow. The Moments section of FIFA Ultimate Team can be a great way to earn free packs - and potentially some FIFA 23 Icons - for what is essentially just completing a bunch of tutorials. This McGeady spin challenge is an example of how they get more complicated as you go along though, so if you're wondering exactly how to perform the skill move, you've come to the right place. This isn't just relevant to Ultimate Team either, as you can take your newfound talent into Career Mode or Pro Clubs too. |
PCGamesN Tuesday, September 27, 2022 12:30 PM Looking for any of the Genshin Impact Candace ascension materials? The Genshin Impact 3.1 update introduces three brand new characters to the free PC game, including Candace, a four-star Hydro polearm wielder. Like Cyno, Candace has some Egyptian influences, with an Eye of Horus decorating her headband. Candace appears on both of the Genshin Impact banners during phase one. If you're trying to unlock Cyno or Venti, there's a good chance you're going to unlock Candace in the process. In this case, you may want to know how to get Candace ascension materials so you can continue leveling her up. Four-star characters generally aren't as good as five-star ones, but Candace could stand out as one of the rare exceptions to earn a top spot on our Genshin Impact tier list. PCGamesN Tuesday, September 27, 2022 12:25 PM The Genshin Impact Of Ballads and Brews event is taking place as part of the new 3.1 update. Not long since the massive 3.0 update which brought us the Sumeru region and Dendro element, 3.1 will make Sumeru even larger, and introduce three new characters. The Of Ballad and Brews event takes you to back to Mondstadt to celebrate Weinlesefest, where you will help the other characters make the festival a success. PCGamesN Tuesday, September 27, 2022 12:10 PM Sharing a universe with 2019's Boneworks, calling Bonelab one of VR's more anticipated games in recent times is a fair assessment. PCGamesN Tuesday, September 27, 2022 12:00 PM When is the Overwatch 2 release date? Initially revealed back at BlizzCon 2019, Overwatch 2 has gone through a rocky development period. While the devs wanted to keep the fans in the loop in regards to Overwatch 2 updates, the departure of game director Jeff Kaplan, among other developments at Blizzard put a temporary stop to this. In March 2022, Blizzard announced their plans to decouple the PvP features of the FPS game from the PvE systems. This change makes it possible to get Overwatch 2's PvP multiplayer modes into the hands of players right away. With the Overwatch 2 release date only a few days away, there's plenty to look forward to before the first season launches. PCGamesN Tuesday, September 27, 2022 1:28 PM The best gaming laptop on the market today can come pretty close to matching the power of a modern desktop gaming PC, meaning you don't have to stop playing while on your travels. In fact, recent innovations have made these mobile machines both slimmer and faster, with minimal compromises to performance. If you're looking for the best gaming laptop with top-of-the-line specs, 13th Gen Intel Core and AMD Ryzen 7000 stacked systems are just around the corner, following their gaming PC counterparts. We expect one of these chips will be the best gaming CPU, promising increased performance and efficiency compared to previous generations. Of course, these aren't the only components you'll need, as you'll want the best graphics card you can find to drive all the pretty pixels on your new laptop's display - mobile Nvidia RTX 4000 GPUs shouldn't be too far away. While gaming RAM and storage space are important, most models can be upgraded later down the line, so it's best to spend more money on a better processor or GPU at first. PCGamesN Tuesday, September 27, 2022 11:06 AM There's this one player in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (I won't say the username for the sake of confidentiality; let's call them xXPwnmasheen420Xx) who just keeps on killing me. Every time I go back and try to kill them – no matter how I approach it, or whether I change my gun, or I go tactical or go loud – they kill me again. My death count ticks up and I cross the threshold whereby Call of Duty awards me the "Comeback" XP bonus if I actually do score a kill, and meanwhile I watch this other person graduate from a UAV, to a cruise missile, to a stealth bomber just from shooting me over and over. I am not just losing. I am helping them to win. If this were an actual war, simply owing to my own ineptitude, I would be done for treason. PCGamesN Tuesday, September 27, 2022 10:35 AM The FIFA 23 Seven League Boots SBC comes early on in the Hybrid Leagues group of squad building challenges. You're required to gather a squad from exactly seven different leagues in the football game, while also requiring a minimum of one chemistry point per player. The easiest way to solve any of these puzzles may initially appear to be filling the 11 slots with those of the same nationality, but high-rated players from smaller leagues are often quite expensive. This method of completing the FIFA 23 Seven League Boots SBC gets most of its chemistry points from French players, while also throwing in some cheap high-rated Premier League cards to complete the requirements. You may find some other combination of high-rated gold cards in your club already, possibly untradeable, from other SBC solutions - take the core of this solution and tweak it as required. The reward for completing this challenge is a Rare Gold Pack, which should give you a great chance of pulling a FIFA 23 Icon, or one of the many Heroes. |

Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, September 27, 2022 4:11 PM Overwatch 2 differs from its predecessor by being free-to-play, which means it will be more vulnerable to players who are up to no good. Blizzard today outlined how they intend to prevent "disruptive behaviour" from players, including the use of SMS verification and machine learning. More awkwardly, game modes will be locked for first-time players, and Overwatch 1's original heroes will only be unlocked "over the course of approximately 100 matches." |

Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, September 27, 2022 12:00 PM I had hoped to bring you a proper review of Moonscars today, the new 2D Soulslike from indie studio Black Mermaid. But alas, both time and its ferociously difficult combat have got the better of me, so you'll have to settle for some impressions instead. This isn't simply a case of drinking the 'git gud' kool-aid either. While I'll hold my hands up now and say that Soulslikes have always been a bit of a challenge for me, I feel like I've been making some pretty good in-roads into the genre lately, and after falling in love with Moonscars' reveal trailer earlier in the year during the Humble Games Showcase, I really, really, really wanted to like this one. Sadly, it's become increasingly clear that Moonscars does not like me very much, and maybe even hates my guts a bit - which is ironic, considering how many organs I've chucked at its feet over the last week and a bit to appease its hungry dread moon. |

Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, September 27, 2022 10:43 AM There's nothing inherently wrong with the AMD Radeon RX 6650 XT's concept – faster clock speeds than the RX 6600 XT, to better compete with Nvidia's RTX cards? Yeah why not – but surely its timing is questionable. Any GPU launching several months into 2022 would only ever do so under the looming shadows of Nvidia's GeForce RTX 40 series and the AMD Radeon RX 7000 series, the latter being officially revealed in just a few days' time. Not to mention Intel Arc Alchemist, delayed as it has been. Still. AMD's next-gen, RDNA 3-based GPUs are an unknown quantity, and the RTX 40 series will at first focus on high-end models like the RTX 4090. Even if its RDNA 2 architecture is on the way out, could the RX 6650 XT not find room in the pack as one of the best graphics cards for 1080p and 1440p? |

Siliconera Tuesday, September 27, 2022 3:00 PM Sega announced a new partnership with Japan-based blockchain firm double jump tokyo, which has begun development on a new Sangokushi Taisen blockchain game. Once completed, the game will likely be the first Sega property that uses blockchain technology. There is no confirmed release date or platform. [Thanks, 4Gamer!] double jump tokyo will handle the development of the game, with Sega providing the Sangokushi Taisen license. The game will utilize double jump's new "Oasys" blockchain project. Originally unveiled in February 2022, the Oasys architecture is reportedly built to support blockchain games. The official Oasys website states that the architecture also supports the trading of NFTs and claims it is "eco-friendly". Ethereum, one of the primary blockchains supporting NFT-based projects, recently completed a switch to "Proof-of-Stake", a verification mechanism that is said to dramatically reduce the energy costs to maintain the blockchain. One of the major objections to blockchain-based technology is that the favored mechanism for maintaining it, "Proof-of-Work" , deliberately consumed large amounts of energy through "mining" activity. Bitcoin, the most popular cryptocurrency system, still uses Proof-of-Work. Double jump tokyo states that the new blockchain game will feature artwork using the Sangokushi Taisen IP. However, it's unclear whether the game will keep the strategic card-based gameplay of its predecessor. The official press release simply states that the game will use the established world and themes of Sangokushi Taisen, and does not mention planned systems or mechanics. You may have heard of double jump tokyo before. That's because the firm has also worked with the likes of Square Enix and Bandai Namco. Last year, the firm helped Square Enix release its first collection of Million Arthur NFTs. Sega, too, initially expressed interest in entering the blockchain scene. However, the company later stated that it would reconsider plans if players rejected the idea. Sangokushi Taisen is a hybrid collectible card game for arcades released in 2005. Since the start of the series, Sega has also released games for the Nintendo DS and smartphones, although none of them have appeared officially outside of Japan. Siliconera Tuesday, September 27, 2022 1:00 PM The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) isn't dead. In fact, it'll be back next year, according to the latest word from the Entertainment Software Association (ESA). E3 2023 will be the first in-person show held since 2019. E3 2023 will return on June 13 to 16, 2023. This new schedule puts just under nine months from now to the planned date. Prior to the disruptions of 2019 and beyond, E3 was one of the world's largest video game industry events. Alongside events like Gamescom and the Tokyo Game Show (which both returned to in-person hosting in 2022), E3 was a major avenue for announcements from the industry's biggest presences [Thanks, VentureBeat!]. E3 2020 was cancelled due to concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic. Those same concerns caused it to go fully online for E3 2021. The ESA cited COVID-19 concerns again when it cancelled both the digital and physical E3 2022 shows, but some commentators suggested that the decision was made some time before. Next year year, event organizing will be handled by ReedPop, the company behind such events as PAX, EGX, the New York Comic-Con, and Star Wars Celebration. ReedPop also owns games media sites like Eurogamer, GamesIndustry.biz, and Rock Paper Shotgun. In a statement, ReedPop President Lance Fensterman said that it was a "tremendous honor and privilege" to bring E3 back in 2023, and committed to build a "world class event to serve the global gaming industry in new and broader ways." The E3 2023 schedule runs for four full days in mid-June next year. The first two days (June 13-15) are listed as Business Days, with floor time and scheduling reserved for press and industry personnel. June 15 and 16 are "Gamer Days", open to the general public. The event will once again take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center. ReedPop plans to reopen Kentia Hall for business events, with Concourse Hall open during Gamer Days, with additional access to indie developers. The ESA, for its part, said it would "support and uplift" digital events and showcases, such as the publisher and platform-run online events that popped up over the last three years. These include the Summer Game Fest and similar livestream-based happenings. E3 2023 returns on June 13-16, 2023. The post E3 Returns in June 2023 appeared first on Siliconera. |
Siliconera Tuesday, September 27, 2022 11:00 AM Netflix will form its first in-house game studio based in Helsinki, Finland. Marko Lastikka, who used to work at Zynga and EA, will be its director. According to Engadget, Netflix's game studio will create "world class" games that will not have ads or in-app purchases. However, there is no news as to when to expect its first game. [Thanks, Eurogamer!] While Netflix is mostly a streaming service, it hosts a number of games on its platforms, mostly developed by third-party studios. It has also acquired studios in the past, such as Night School Studio in 2021 and Boss Fight Entertainment in March 2022. This will be the first time that Netflix will develop games internally. Gaming on Netflix means being able to access a library of free games that have no advertisements or microtransactions. In terms of Netflix's game library, Netflix-hosted games are mostly hosted via its Android and iOS apps. The "games" tab in the Netflix app offers such titles as Lucky Luna, Before Your Eyes, and an enhanced version of Into the Breach. The Netflix app also hosts exclusive titles based on Netflix properties, like a series of games based on Stranger Things, and Hextech Mayhem, based on League of Legends. Most people may not know Netflix offers this, though:less than 1% of Netflix's subscribers play games from its library on a daily basis, reportedly. The Netflix app is available on multiple devices and via browser. At this time there are no details on what games Netflix's planned studio will develop or when to expect them. A game based on the Kingdom live-action series is in development for PC and mobile. The post Netflix Announces In-House Game Studio appeared first on Siliconera. |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Tuesday, September 27, 2022 4:15 PM The v0.7.0.0 patch for Phasmophobia, also known as the "Apocalypse" update, just dropped this morning with quite a few changes and additions for fans to enjoy. Many of these additions come in the form of small niceties such as improved animations for when ghosts throw objects, more consistent control mapping, and the ability to report players. But the update also includes more significant additions like a new Custom Difficulty option and a few reworked maps. As the name suggests, Custom Difficulty allows players to make entirely new games where they can tailor the difficulty to their liking. Players can adjust a wide variety of modifiers, such as the effectiveness of Sanity Pills, the roaming frequency of ghosts, and the number of hiding places on the map. These options allow for all kinds of wacky challenges to overcome. Alternatively, this feature will also appeal to those looking to have a bit of simple, casual fun. Unlike similar features in other titles, custom games ... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Tuesday, September 27, 2022 2:22 PM Blizzard dropped a developer blog today detailing some of the changes coming to Overwatch 2. While there's a lot of good stuff in there, it's the developer's new first-time user experience scheme that is concerning. Dubbed FTUE (First Time User Experience), it effectively makes new Overwatch 2 players to unlock all 32 original heroes from scratch. In the blog post Blizzard explains its reasoning for implementing this system. It has received "consistent feedback," from new players that Overwatch 2 can feel overwhelming with all that's included. This is due to a variety of factors, but a large contributor is the sheer amount of game modes and heroes. Once live, the FTUE scheme will drip feed new Overwatch 2 players content as they play more games. It's split up into two stages. The first stage will "rapidly" unlock and provide access to the now locked game modes and the ability to chat in-game. Following that is stage two. Stag... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Tuesday, September 27, 2022 2:15 PM Intel has finally unveiled both the release date and price for the Arc A770 at its Intel Innovation event. The graphics card is set to launch on October 12, with a cost of $329 USD. Not only is this the same date as the RTX 4090 launch, but the A770's price point also matches the RTX 3060 exactly. We've been waiting a long time to see this card hit the shelves, and that time is finally soon. In a rather refreshing move, it looks like Intel's foray into the desktop graphics card market is challenging the high cost of its competitors. Obviously, this isn't a card that's challenging Nvidia's or AMD's heavy hitters. The specs released for the A770 are about what you'd expect for a decent graphics card these days. It's clear that Intel is instead targeting budget builds and those who don't have upwards of $600 USD to shell out on a new graphics card. And according to Intel, the A770 is more than capable of challenging the RTX 3060.... |

PC Invasion - FeedDDD Tuesday, September 27, 2022 1:35 PM Patch 1.03 is currently available for MultiVersus, and with it comes a new character and general tweaks. The update went live today, so MultiVersus players can fianlly check out the newest character, Rick Sanchez. Beyond that, a fair amount of changes and additions have come to the game today. Rick Sanchez was already confirmed for MultiVersus months ago, so that isn't much of a surprise. He joins the Mage class, which also includes Bugs Bunny and Tom and Jerry. In comparison to the other characters on the roster, Mage class fighters can be pretty tricky. Of course, with all the gadgets at Rick's disposal, it makes perfect sense for him to be a Mage. And if his reveal trailer told us anything, it's that we're likely to see plenty of references to Rick and Morty. Cosmetics additions and gameplay tweaks Besides Rick's appearance in MultiVersus, there are a few other additions in this update. If there wass one part of the game that always felt a little... |
