Games mostly don't do it justice at all, either making "piracy" shorthand for "mindless omnicide for no reason" or slapping a parroty theme onto a generic action game. Buccaneers! isn't primarily a piracy game, but they're one of its four factions. It doesn't try to be more than a naval combat and light action RPG either, let alone the "real" pirate game I dearly want, but I can't hold that against it either. If I was being reductive, I'd call it a budget hybrid of Sea Of Thieves and Sid Meier's Pirates By Sid Meier Aged 33 And 3/4. It's probably unfair to set such high expectations, but the core design is compelling and enjoyable enough to merit it. |

I'm saying this to emphasise that I loathe singiing the praises of anything even tangentially related to Marvel, without also revealing that I have stashed a steel chair and bag of thumbtacks under the ring as a surprise attack against Kevin Feige. Spider-Man is about as Marvel-related as you can get. I said back when the remaster of Insomniac's first Spider-Man game came to PC that the reason to not buy it was that Miles Morales was coming to PC in a few months. A few months has become now. And I must own that Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a good game. It's a big, bold action adventure full of heroics and quips, and it's still the better Spider-Man game. I think a large part of that is because it's shorter. |

A free update is coming to The DioField Chronicle, and Waltaquin Redditch will be its star. Square Enix took to Twitter to confirm new content is heading to the game. In addition to the new story starring the Blue Fox, other new content will be added. This update will arrive sometime in March 2023. As a refresher, Waltaquin is a main character in The DioField Chronicle. She's one of the people who is in charge of the Blue Foxes mercenary group. She's a type of mage in-game known as a Magicker. Due to events of the story, there are certain opportunities where players might not see what's happening in her life during events of the game. This update could offer new insight into her activities. The announcement also hinted at some of the other things that will be a part of the free The DioField Chronicle update. A new weapon will appear for characters to equip. There will also be new skills that could be used in battle. A little bit of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet showed up in Pokemon GO in the form of avatar outfits. People who log in can now dress up their trainers like the main characters from the new entries. These different outfit parts are all free. Some of them can also be mixed and matched with existing items. To get the new Pokemon Scarlet and Violet avatar outfits in Pokemon GO, click the "Style" button from your profile or "New Items Available" image in the Shop. From there, touch the Featured category. This isn't the first reference to the new games to show up in Pokemon GO. At the beginning of November, Gimmighoul started showing up in-game. This is a new Paldean Pokemon. Netflix offered another peek at the upcoming Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre anime series, and it features Tomie. The new teaser offers a quick glimpse at a story starring the infamous character who starred in multiple stories and movies. While the teaser doesn't specifically note it is a Tomie story, it shows the character and references some bits of lore surrounding her. Namely, we see a very pretty young woman with a beauty mark near her left eye. Photos of her feature eyes or an entire second face on the back or side of her head. (This same element came up in Tomie: Another Face.) The segment ends with Tomie asking two young men, "Hey, guys. I need your help. Will you hear me out?" This isn't the first look at Netflix's Junji Ito Maniac anime. The company also shared the opening for the anime. The theme song for the show will be "Paranoid" by Madkid. In other news about the mangaka, a new manga collection is headed to Japan. A premium box set will launch on December 7, 2022. The PlayStation Store Black Friday 2022 sale is live, offering deals on an array of PS4 and PS5 games. Sony noted there will be offers on titles to play and its subscription services. It even opened an official site for it all. There are also some physical games that will be reduced at other retailers. First, PlayStation Plus subscriptions are on sale. The offer means people can take 25% off a one year subscription of the Essential, Extra, or Premium Plan. Sony also noted there is no limit to how many people can buy, so people can "stack" time. The Target Black Friday 2022 ad is out and, as expected, features a number of consoles and deals on games. The official website posted the items people can expect to see in-store and online. It also noted that this year, the offers are good through November 20-26, 2022. First, there are console offers listed in the Target ad. On the front page is its Xbox Series X offer. The system there will be $249.99, just like other retailers, but Target is throwing in a free $50 gift card with it. The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Switch bundle with three months of Nintendo Switch Online will be present for $299.99. The PS5 God of War: Ragnarok bundle will be available for $559.99. Also, the Xbox All Access offer that gives someone an Xbox Series X and 24 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will be available for a deal that involves playing $34.99 per month for 24 months. Here's a list of all the game deals shown in the Target Black Friday 2022 ad. In some cases, only a single version of a game is shown. However, if it is a multiplatform title, other platforms could be included in the offer. If "Xbox" is mentioned, then it is playable on the Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is also mentioned as being on sale from November 23-25, 2022, but a price wasn't shown in the ad. HoYoVerse offered a few more details about one of the characters that will appear in Zenless Zone Zero by briefly introducing Miyabi Hoshimi. Miyabi is affiliated with Section 6. While there are no gameplay details about her yet, her official art shows she's a young woman with cat-like ears that wields a katana. Miyabi is in charge of Special Operations Section 6 in Zenless Zone Zero. She's known for being a dedicated, busy woman. She also references practicing her skills with the sword in her announcement. This Zenless Zone Zero character is voiced by Ami Koshimizu. This isn't her first HoYoVerse game. She is also the voice of Beidou in Genshin Impact. As for other titles, she played Yukiko Amagi in multiple Persona 4 games and spin-offs, Mai Shiranui in The King of Fighters XV and cameo appearances, and Rebecca Chambers in Resident Evil Zero.
HoYoVerse introduced quite a few Zenless Zone Zero characters via Twitter. For example, fellow Section 6 member Soukaku came up at the beginning of November 2022. Machico, a singer who plays Tsubasa Ibuki in The Idolmaster, is her voice actress. Another is Corin Wickes, a Victoria Housekeeping Co. member voiced by Hiromi Igarashi. The situation at social media platform Twitter is uncertain. Thanks to an "ultimatum" sent by the company's new owner and CEO Elon Musk, a significant portion of the remaining staff might have quit. In less than a month, the company also laid off thousands of official Twitter employees. [Thanks, The Verge!] Musk took possession of Twitter in late October 2022, months after offering to buy the site for about $44 billion USD. After attempting to back out of the deal, he accepted it rather than be forced by trial to hold up his end of it. Shortly after entering the building, he fired much of Twitter's upper management, taking over the CEO role from Parag Agrawal. Days after that, he then initiated a mass layoff. Musk fired roughly half of the active staff (about 3,500 people), alongside an unspecified number of contractors that work with Twitter on things like content moderation. The latest wave in the fast-moving saga is an email sent by Musk to the remaining staff on November 16, 2022. It demanded they commit to an "extremely hardcore" working culture to build "Twitter 2.0." That "hardcore" quality included working under intense pressure and long hours. Those who did not click "yes" on a linked Google form would be given a severance package and be removed from the company. The ultimatum's deadline was set for 5:00 PM Eastern Time on November 17, 2022. That deadline passed and according to reporting from The Verge, "hundreds" of now-former Twitter employees refused the call. These included teams "critical" to the day-to-day operation of the the platform, such as infrastructure and Site Reliability Engineers (SREs). Depending on how this latest round of departures shakes out, there may not be enough people left at Twitter to keep things running in a reliable manner. This increases the risk of large-scale or long-lasting outages, as well as of unrecoverable errors cropping up the longer the site goes without people to maintain it. Twitter is used worldwide by almost 250 million people. It's particularly popular in Japan, where it is used as a newswire for public events and conversation. NIS released two videos that will let people sample the soundtrack from Disgaea 7. In both videos, you can hear music that will play in the game, as well as songs that the voice actors sang. It is even possible to hear some of the pieces in the soundtrack that will come in the Collectors' Box edition of the game. [Thanks, Famitsu!] As Disgaea 7 will have a more Japanese vibe to the environment, the music also draws inspiration from traditional Japanese music. The console launch of Gundam Evolution will be on December 1, 2022, which will coincide with the beginning of Gundam Evolution season 2. On that day, Bandai Namco will also introduce a new unit to use in Gundam Evolution: the Nu Gundam. The Nu Gundam originates from Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack. [Thanks, Game Watch!] Bandai Namco released a 12-minute long Mission Briefing video to introduce all of the new content. The video includes a brief interview with Kazuya Maruyama, who is a producer for Gundam Evolution. Quite a lot of the video focuses on the Nu Gundam in action, as well as how to utilize the Fin Funnel system. You can then use your Fin Funnels to shoot at the enemy with a mark. The game encourages you to shoot the enemy at least four times before activating the Fin Funnel so that you can get the most out of them. The Nu Gundam also has the New Hyper Bazooka. While shooting, the Nu Gundam can move in the direction you input. Lastly, it can block ranged attacks with the Fin Funnel Barrier. Aside from the Nu Gundam, Gundam Evolution will also get a new Colony Trading Post map. It will feature numerous gimmicks. For example, there is a shutter that will open and close at a set interval. There is also a change to the ranked match system. You will be able to unlock new icons and portraits based on your battle records. Finally, the PC version will get a spectator mode. The console versions of Gundam Evolution will get this later. Gundam Evolution is readily available on Windows PC. It will appear on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox One from December 1, 2022. Dominant characters such as Zarya, Sombra, and Genji have been hit with the nerf hammer, and a game-breaking bug involving Mei and Kiriko has been fixed, allowing Mei to return to the roster. Mei was temporarily deleted from the game due to this bug, but her return will allow her to build up more walls and freeze enemies to death once again. Players are most likely excited for some major Zarya nerfs, targeting her barriers' duration and cooldown time. Genji is another major target for nerfs, reducing his ammo and shuriken damage to make him a little less aggressive in the backline. Sombra will also see nerfs to her hacks, reducing the duration of hacks as well as reducing the damage dealt to hacked targets. You'll no doubt be shocked to learn that the game looks and plays exactly like the original. I mean, it's got the same city, the same engine, and all that jazz. You probably weren't expecting a world of difference. Like the base game, the spin-off is a good port with the exact same performance. Again, that means the game is fairly processor-intensive, so if you're using a crummy CPU, you're probably not going to get high fps in the city itself. I didn't have a single crash and experienced no hitches or anything weird. I know, I know, some things are hard to mess up. But we've got more Spider-Man and that's obviously a good thing.
