Destiny 2 Lightfall review in progress – left in the dark

Destiny 2 Lightfall promised to be the groundbreaking penultimate storyline in a narrative developed over nearly a decade. But the issue is sometimes game developers make promises they can't keep. Not every expansion and campaign storyline can change the game like Forsaken or introduce us to compelling narrative twists like those in The Witch Queen. However, Lightfall feels like a significant step backwards from the complex, interwoven threads that once led an entire community to grieve for the death of Cayde-6 or, even more recently, shed a tear at Rasputin's sacrifice.

Perhaps there's some confusion among the developers as to what Destiny 2 means to players compared to what it means to those in charge. The development team sought to deliver a futuristic neon city and a Darkness subclass that's ironically bright in the FPS game, while what could have truly satiated players is a clearer grasp of the stakes surrounding the Traveler, the Veil, and the future of humanity.

Note that this review is relatively early in the gameplay experience, reflecting several hours of campaign content. There's a lot to explore in Destiny 2 Lightfall, and we're still working our way through it. Still, with several hours of the Legendary campaign completed, suffice it to say it's notably underwhelming.

What is the next Dreamlight Valley update release date?

Want to know the next Disney Dreamlight Valley update release date and who's coming with it? Dreamlight Valley updates add new characters and quests to the life sim, and we already know there's a lot of room for new faces to be added. Fans on social media have been requesting the likes of Cinderella, Belle, and Stitch - and with a certain blue alien having crash-landed in the valley last year, we know Gameloft are listening.

Despite being in early access, the Disney game cemented itself as one of the best PC games of last year, with regular content updates, a vibrant community, and speedy and regular patches when bugs are found. We've now had three large content updates since the game launched just a few months ago. With "an almost unlimited source" of classic characters to choose from, there's no sign of these updates slowing down yet, with Dreamlight Valley update 4 adding more Lion King characters to the pride next month.

Sons of the Forest review in progress – hungry for more

Our Sons of the Forest review finds this long-awaited sequel to The Forest full of the kind of spooky atmosphere that's enough to make even the most iron-willed among us squirm in our seats. We've played more than 20 hours so far and made it to day 12, having experimented with different starting strategies across multiple playthroughs. We've more to see, and will update this review-in-progress periodically as we do so, but so far our experience suggests it's a fantastic game - albeit not without its flaws. There's a nagging feeling that Sons of the Forest may have bitten off slightly more than it can chew.

The game is certainly fun and engaging, and for only $30, it feels worth the price of admission, especially since the developer promises continuous updates. But it's important to note just how much it feels like The Forest. Sure, there's more vegetation, a bigger map, new build mechanics, more variety in crafting and weaponry, and creepier mutants — but it sort of feels like you've seen it all before. Perhaps that's the point: to take what worked and build from there, literally and figuratively.

When Skyrim came out I was a student, and I worked in Gamestation (RIP) to help pay for chicken noodles. I remember the hype around it very clearly because Gamestation had a deal where you could buy it for like £22, and I had a sideline going when the stock was low to keep some back for my friends. Apols if you were caught in the crossfire for that, but dragon fever was running high off the back of a still very cool trailer, and shouting Fus Ro Dah was the only cure.

In the years since, Skyrim has been released and re-released many times, on every conceivable platform. "Arrow to the knee" jokes became de rigueur and hacky almost overnight, and at this point might have horse-shoed back around to being funny again. There are many examples of unrelated games or videos that cut to black fading back up into the opening of Skyrim, in a kind of sub-genre of rickroll. Does it hold up now? Kind of. It's a really fun, ambitious RPG, with faults - but if the faults didn't exist maybe it wouldn't have been as popular as it was.

Rent-A-Girlfriend Season 3

DMM Pictures released a new look at Rent-a-Girlfriend season 3. The third teaser for the ongoing anime series also introduces a new character named Mini Yaemori.

Check out the teaser below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jZWHwztqlk

The Rent-a-Girlfriend Season 3 trailer introduces Mini Yaemori, Kazuya's other neighbor. Mini is a cosplayer and a social media influencer. She plays a key role in the plot of Rent-a-Girlfriend Season 3, which involves Kazuya and Chizuru's attempt to make an independent film together.

The Rent-a-Girlfriend anime (a.k.a. Kanojo, Okarishimasu) is based on the manga created by Reiji Miyajima. The story follows Kazuya Kinoshita, a 20-year-old college student living in Tokyo. After being dumped by his girlfriend Mami after just a month of dating, a spiteful Kazuya turns to a certain app for solace. The app allows him to "rent" a date for a limited time, and his partner is Chizuru Mizuhara. After some drama and hard feelings, Kazuya finds that his family and friends love his new "girlfriend," and he's forced to keep renting her services to keep up appearances. It also turns out that Chizuru happens to be his neighbor and a student at the same college.

The anime adaption of Rent-a-Girlfriend premiered in 2020 and was produced by TMS Entertainment and Studio Comet. The first two seasons were directed by Kazuomi Koga, who worked on series like Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World- and Kubo Won't Let Me Be Invisible. The third season will have Shin'ya Une stepping in to replace Koga. Une has worked on previous seasons, as well as shows like Record of Ragnarok and Teasing Master Takagi-san.

Rent-a-Girlfriend Season 3 will premiere in Japan in July 2023. The manga is published in English by Kodansha, and the first two seasons of the anime air on services like Crunchyroll. The series received a mobile game spin-off in 2021.

FFXIV Fan Fest Tickets

If you're going to the 2023 Final Fantasy XIV Festival in Las Vegas, now is the time to secure your attendance. As of March 6, 2023 at 9am PT/12pm ET, FFXIV Fan Fest tickets are on sale. Square Enix opened a special purchase site for tickets, as well as posting details on its blog.

Though 2023 FFXIV Fan Fest tickets are on sale, they're not quite open to every member of the public. Those who did receive a code via their email will be eligible to purchase up to two tickets. According to a tweet from Square Enix, all the notification emails that contain access codes have been sent out to eligible players.

Meanwhile, any unsold player-exclusive tickets will be sold during the general sale period, allowing any member of the public to attend. The general sales period is set for March 15, 2023 at 9am PT/12pm ET. Dragon Ball FighterZ Rollback

Rollback is coming soon to Dragon Ball FighterZ, at least if you're on PC. Bandai Namco announced that a PC beta for the implementation of Dragon Ball FighterZ rollback netcode in the game is scheduled to kick off next season.

Bandai Namco delivered the announcement during the Dragon Ball FighterZ World Tour 2022/2023 Finals. According to the announcement, the Dragon Ball FighterZ rollback is set to happen in Spring 2023. A more precise date for the testing wasn't revealed, but the Spring window puts the likely date somewhere between late March and late June 2023. It will be conducted on PC via Steam. The existing PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch versions of Dragon Ball FighterZ won't have rollback, though. The update is only destined for the PC version, as well as the planned PS5 and Xbox Series X versions.

For the uninitiated, rollback netcode is a way of dealing with high-latency online connections typical to internet-based and international fighting game matchups. The typical "delay-based" netcode is simpler, but is less suitable for the increasingly international fighting game scene. Many newer fighting games already feature rollback as the default for online play. Older games have been relaunched with rollback to take advantage of an interested online audience.

In addition to a Dragon Ball FighterZ rollback beta test, the development team is also working on a new balance patch. This is despite the fact that in late 2022 the team said that the game had gone through its final balance adjustment phase. The new patch may address trends in the "meta game" that emerged in the months following the last set of patches.

Dragon Ball FighterZ is available on the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions are in development.

Pokemon Scarlet Violet Decidueye Tera Raid

The next boss headed to the Paldea region is an Alolan alumnus. The official accounts for Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet announced that the next raid for the games is a Decidueye Tera Raid. The raids themselves will take over two weekends, from March 17-20, 2023 and from March 24-27, 2023.

The Decidueye Tera Raid features a powerful version of the iconic Alolan Pokemon. Its Tera type will be Flying, in addition to its standard Grass and Ghost type. The Decidueye Tera Raid is a 7-Star raid event. As with other Tera Raids players that participate will get a chance to acquire a Decidueye for their own rosters. Tera Raids often feature Pokemon that are not normally capturable in Scarlet and Violet.

Decidueye first appeared in Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon, and is part of "Generation VII" of the Pokemon games. It is the final evolution of the Grass-type Starter Pokemon, Rowlet. Decidueye evolves from Dartrix. Despite being an avian Pokemon, Decidueye is a Grass/Ghost-type. Cautious by nature, it can fall into a panic if it gets surprised. Catching it unawares will prove quite a challenge, as Decidueye has excellent eyesight. In combat it can nock and fire its own arrow-like quill feathers, using them like projectile weapons. Its aim is so precise it can hit pebbles at distances of hundreds of meters, and loose an arrow quill in just a tenth of a second. A Hisuian regional variant of Decidueye appeared in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, trading the Ghost type for Fighting type.

The Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Decidueye Tera Raid kicks off on March 17, 2023, and again on March 24, 2023. The games are available on the Nintendo Switch.

FFXIV FFXVI Crossover

There might be a chance for Final Fantasy XIV and Final Fantasy XVI to meet, according to Producer Naoki "Yoshi-P" Yoshida. A recent interview from Saturday revealed that Yoshida "really wants" to implement an FFXVI and FFXIV crossover of some kind. [Thanks, Umadori0726!]

The original interview took place on the Chinese news site HK01. According to Umadori's translation of the interview, the interviewer asked Yoshida, who works as producer on Final Fantasy XVI, whether there was a chance of a crossover between FFXVI and FFXIV at some point after XVI's release.

Yoshida responded:

As the producer of FF16, of course I really want to do [a collaboration]. FF14 has a huge player base, and being able to bring FF16 to FF14 players would be ideal. But that's not a matter I can decide all on my own. I'd need to discuss it with the Producer of FF14. It just so happens that the Producer and Director of FF14 has the surname "Yoshida," so I'll check with him. If he says 'yes', then it might really happen."

Given that Naoki Yoshida is the producer of both Final Fantasy XIV and Final Fantasy XVI, this is a cheeky way of affirming his desire for a cross-promotion, but stopping short of confirming it in detail.

Final Fantasy XIV has a long history of crossovers with other properties, Final Fantasy-related and otherwise. Much of its content includes in-depth references and adaptations of other Final Fantasy concepts, settings, and even characters. One promotion involved Final Fantasy XV, the most recent mainline FF game. How to Finish 'Lingering Love' in Octopath Traveler 2

"Lingering Love" is a pretty unique Octopath Traveler 2 side story in that you can complete it without really going through any effort or seeing the initial part of the story. That is, if you are the sort of person who will Steal from and Scrutinize any NPC before you actually talk to them, it can be over before it even begins.

In Stormhail, there is a Dismal Woman. If you check her inventory, you'll see a Treasured Necklace. Now, you can talk to her first. However, since I'm a terrible person, I steal from any side story-giving NPCs before starting the quests. Doing so to get the Treasured Necklace immediately "solves" her problem.

After you've stolen or bought the Dismal Woman's Treasured Necklace, you're done. You won't even need to trigger another conversation. She'll immediately start talking to you and come to a conclusion after your actions.

As a thanks for your efforts(?) there, you'll get an Alluring Ribbon and 14,000 leaves. The "Lingering Love" Octopath Traveler 2 side story will then end. She'll also be known as the Rejuvenated Woman from here on out.

Octopath Traveler 2 is available for the Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC. A demo is available.

gundam witch from mercury season 2

We now know a concrete release date for when Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury will start season 2: April 2, 2023. The second season will air every Sunday from 5pm JST. That would be 12am PT/3am ET. Overseas viewers will be able to watch it on services such as Crunchyroll.

There is a very short teaser trailer for Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury season 2. It shows the key visual over music and Suletta's narration. As for the key visual, we can see Suletta and Miorine posing in front of the Aerial. They are standing in the midst of rubble, which indicates that the second season might focus more on war and the ramifications from the end of the first season.

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury follows Suletta Mercury, who is the eponymous witch from Mercury. The first season mostly followed her time at school, as well as her attempts to make friends and get closer to her fiancee Miorine. Rather than various nations locked in conflict, The Witch From Mercury focuses on companies and their power struggles instead.

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury Season 2 release date is April 2, 2023. You can watch the first season and the prologue via Crunchyroll.

See the Crymachina Opening Movie

There's even more news about Furyu and NIS America's latest game. This time, it's a peek at its aesthetic. The companies released the Crymachina opening movie. This offered a chance to see more of the main characters and its futuristic world in action.

Here's the full Crymachina opening movie.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_kJl1eVaVE

New screenshots and character art appeared introducing the cast just ahead of the Crymachina opening movie. First, here are screenshots showing how the game will look.

There are also some updates as to when people can expect certain things. NIS America confirmed there will be a Deluxe Edition of the game. This will give people a physical copy with a reversible cover. In addition to the game, you'll get a mini art book inside and a code to download its soundtrack. A Limited Edition is also planned, but that won't be discussed until May 2023 according to the official site.

Crymachina will come to the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC in Fall 2023 worldwide, following the action-RPG's July 6, 2023 release in Japan.

How to Finish 'Ghormf' in Octopath Traveler 2

"Ghormf" is one of those side stories in Octopath Traveler 2 that isn't too difficult to finish, but may be a bit tricky. That's because by the time you get to the Nameless Village to find it, you might have forgotten where you saw the NPC who can help solve it. But given both characters involved are beastlings, it's as easy as going to the nearby Beasting Village to finish this questline.

When you're in Nameless Village on Toto'haha, you'll notice one person who speaks a foreign language. To solve the quest, you need to bring someone else who speaks that same language there to talk to the NPC. Fortunately, because the language is so unusual and the other person will be speaking it, the person is fairly easy to pick out.

How to Finish 'Ghormf' in Octopath Traveler 2

Head to Beasting Village. At the very back, near where you'd meet Juvah, you'll find an elderly Beastling. Bring this NPC along. I used Ochette, and it only cost three Jerky.

Bring him to the Nameless Village Beastling to finish "Ghormf" in Octopath Traveler 2. You'll get 10,000 leaves and a Stupefying Stone Axe for your troubles.

Octopath Traveler 2 is available for the Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC. A demo is available.

Dead Cells Castlevania Richter Mode Outfit 1Most roguelites are happy to offer a skin or some sort when dealing with a crossover, but few are actually willing to put together what's basically a new character. That's exactly what Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania offers with its Richter mode, which will also net you a character skin. Unlocking the character is fairly simple, but you might miss out if you're not searching as thoroughly as you can. This guide will specify how to unlock Richter mode and also give you a bit of a better idea of what it is exactly. You'll meet Richter in Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania normally as long as you're playing through the content. When you return to Dracula's castle via the Clock Room on a run separate for when you initially went through the earlier game content, you'll want to search the place as carefully as you can. One of the lore rooms can be entered via columns straight out of Symphony of the Night, so enter this as soon as you come across...

Dead Cells Return To Castlevania Worth It 1Dead Cells is already a mammoth of a roguelite that has a huge amount of content courtesy of regular updates and multiple DLCs. Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania steps this up by offering a crossover with the dormant series that so strongly inspired it, bringing a few new biomes, a couple of new bosses, and a heaping helping of weapons and outfits that are sure to get Castlevania fans champing at the bit to unlock everything. However, this DLC is twice as much as previous ones, so the question stands – is Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania worth it, or does this addition not justify its cost? Accessing the first of the new stuff in this DLC is a very simple affair. Players will immediately meet Alucard in the starting area and an entrance to the outskirts of Dracula's castle will be added as a new starting biome. This biome features one of the most famous Castlevania tracks and immediately greets players with classic series enemies, such as skeletons and harpies. This l...
