The next Lost Ark Art of War update will arrive on April 12, 2023 and include Brelshaza Hard Mode. Additionally, new Guardian Raids will appear once the update patch has gone live, which will give players more end game content to cut their teeth on. Smilegate shared a detailed list of information, including required item levels required in Lost Ark to jump into the new Chaos Dungeons, Guardian Raids, and for the much awaited Brelshaza Hard. Alongside the April Art of War update, Lost Ark will also get several new cosmetics including butler and maid outfits. Additionally, Pernian Knight cosmetics will also be available to obtain alongside matching weapon skins for every class in the game. These will be available to purchase through the in-game store once the update arrives. General quality of life updates will be implemented alongside the update patch. These will includes how login rewards will be tracked, reward adjustments for the Arkesia Grand Prix event, and Triport unlock conditions now being applied across a player's entire roster. The skip feature will also be available for Stronghold quests. Previous quality of life updates included changes to the gold system. Lost Ark is available on PCs. A new 6.5 update Honkai Impact 3rd skin coming to the game soon is the Herrscher of Human: Ego skin Peachy Spring outfit. To help people prepare and decide if it is worth getting, HoYoVerse shared a trailer dedicated to Elysia's new attire. In addition to idle animations showcasing how it looks, it also includes in-battle footage to show how it changes the appearance of her attacks when she fights. People will be able to acquire the attire on April 14, 2023. The Peachy Spring outfit is the first extra skin for Herrscher of Human: Ego. In addition to changing her general appearance, there are also new effects and looks for her different attacks. For example, as shown in the video, even her Ultimate looks entirely different once equipped. Herrscher of Human: Ego is a relatively new battlesuit in Honkai Impact 3rd. It launched as part of the 6.0 update in September 2022. It is the second playable version of Elysia in the game. The first is Miss Pink Elf. That appeared in September 2021. The Super Mario Bros Movie is currently breaking records left and right. It has the biggest opening weekend for an animated movie, beating Frozen 2. It's beaten Warcraft's record for a video game movie's opening weekend. Its success was expected but the scale of that success was not. The question is though, is it worth this level of success? Does the Mario formula translate well to the cinema? After all, we already saw it done poorly with the disaster of the 1993 live-action movie. Chris Pratt as Mario hardly seemed like a decent choice from the dull phoned-in performance seen in all the trailers. There has been every opportunity for this to be a letdown.
I will be honest. If we're judging The Super Mario Bros Movie on its story alone, then it's not a great start. It's a serviceable tale of two Brooklyn plumbers who get pulled into a magical land where a giant, angry turtle is trying to take over. Character development is minimal and predictable. It features plenty of big action-packed moments, all of which are merely tangentially related to one another. It's a threadbare, low-stakes plot that feels like it exists for the sole purpose of connecting those action moments. However, it sure does have a lot of fun in the process. Here's the thing about Super Mario Bros. It is not a story-driven game series (ignoring the spin-off RPGs, of course). Creator Shigeru Miyamoto went on record countless times about how he envisions the series to be a playground built around its mechanics. Anyone who's ever played a Mario game knows this. The movie, too, understands it. So even though its plot is flimsy, it doesn't matter. All it cares about is that you have fun. On that front, it succeeds.
The Super Mario Bros Movie is a joyful love letter to the games it draws inspiration from. The Mushroom Kingdom of the movie feels like a fully realised version of the one from the games. Power-ups like the Fire Flower are just standard things that exist in the world. Maps are drawn like they came from Super Mario World. Bowser dons an outfit from Super Mario Odyssey. Even Mario Kart 8 gets a lot of love. Any fan of the Mario games is going to love how authentic this world feels. But the love for Nintendo goes further. Kong Island looks like it was ripped straight from Rare's Donkey Kong Country games, with a few surprising nods to the newer titles from Retro Studios. The arena where Mario and DK battle is full of girders, evoking the original Donkey Kong arcade game that saw the debut of both characters. If that wasn't enough, plenty of NES-era games can be seen in Mario's home of Brooklyn. Most notably, we get to meet Mario and Luigi's former boss, Foreman Spike from Wrecking Crew.
The soundtrack is a superb source of these Easter eggs too. The score blends original music with the catchy, memorable and iconic tunes of the games constantly. It's a symphony of Nintendo history, going beyond the expected World 1-1 theme from Super Mario Bros. There are even themes taken from Mario Kart and Donkey Kong, although criminally these composers were not mentioned alongside Koji Kondo in the credits. Sticking with audio, the performances in The Super Mario Bros Movie are universally excellent. Every actor has taken to their character with full enthusiasm, with Keegan-Michael Key's Toad and Anya Taylor-Joy's Peach being highlights. Even Chris Pratt is better than expected. It's not amazing, but there's also nothing about it that can be called bad. A real surprise, considering how many trailers featured dull, uninspiring performances from him that simply aren't in the final movie. It's a strange way to market the movie, especially when fans were already wary of Pratt. The best performance by far is Jack Black as Bowser. This isn't a surprise, of course. He's a cartoon character in real-life and he has experience with games thanks to his friendship with Double Fine's Tim Schafer. But he's also just unrecognisable in his deep Bowser register and manages to blend menace with goofiness perfectly the whole time. He also gets a brief musical number that's one of the funniest parts of the movie.
The Super Mario Bros Movie is also a visual treat. The Mushroom Kingdom has been realised as a vibrant, lively land of beloved characters. There are even some fun side-scrolling sequences such as Mario and Luigi dashing across a building site or a sequence later in the movie that could have been lifted from Super Mario 3D World. Character animation is also generally excellent, with bouncy, expressive performances throughout. It completely understands the visual appeal within the Mario games. The one exception to this is Peach, whose model felt uncomfortably disproportionate. Her massive head and slender body often made her look like a walking bobblehead doll, making a lot of her movements and expressions feel off. She wasn't consistently awful, but she landed in the uncanny valley often enough that I found it distracting. It's especially strange when every other character in the movie looks great. It's been a good year for adaptations of gaming properties of all kinds. HBO's The Last of Us deeply understands the complex moral dilemmas of Naughty Dog's PS3 favorite. Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves was a typical D&D campaign at its core. And now, The Super Mario Bros Movie manages to capture exactly what a Mario game is – light on plot but heavy on pure joy. The Super Mario Bros Movie may not be the greatest movie ever made, but it is an adaptation that recognises the appeal of the games and tries to bring that to the big screen. It's a theme park ride of a movie designed to put a big, stupid smile on your face. Go see it with those expectations and you will have a blast. Voting for the 2023 edition of the Sanrio Character Ranking is open and will run until Friday May 26, 2023. This years theme is "Be Part of the Fun and Thrills." You can vote once a day for one of 90 Sanrio characters, such as Cinnamoroll, Pompompurin and Aggretsuko. Currently, the website is under heavy strain and may require waiting up to 10 minutes to register your vote. After voting, you can fill in a short survey, receive character recommendations, or share your vote to Facebook, Twitter or Line. The first day's initial results of the ranking will be published on April 13, 2023 followed by the Sanrio+ exclusive results on April 28, 2023. Interim results will be shown on May 11, 2023, with the final results being released on June 11, 2023. The annual Sanrio Character Ranking was won by Cinnamoroll in both 2021 and 2022 with Pompompurin coming in second both times. Third place was claimed by Pochacco in 2021 and by Kuromi in 2022. This year's ranking is the 38th since it began in 1986. After voting closes and the votes are tallied, Sanrio usually releases some of the statistics. These can include total votes and the most popular character in each country. Sanrio is known for its frequent collaborations. These include a recent April Fools' Day 2023 event in Granblue Fantasy and beach-themed shirts produced by Uniqlo. Sony studio Media Molecule announced that support for Dreams will soon be ending. All official support for the game creation tool will end on September 1, 2023. After this date, no further updates will be made to the game and Media Molecule will no longer be hosting any community events. Media Molecule confirmed in an update that official support for Dreams is ending for two reasons. First, the team stated that future updates are unlikely to be sustainable in the long term. Second, the studio will be focusing on developing a new IP, although it has not announced any details on this yet. All community events will cease as part of this move. This will include the Impy Awards, All Hallows' Dreams and DreamsCom. Community Jams will also end after the final event in April 2023. However, the in-game Hall of Fame will continue to feature previous content from past Jams. Dreams will still be available after September 2023, however. Players will also continue to be able to create new projects and share them with others. To facilitate its ongoing survival after this, Media Molecule have confirmed server migration in May 2023. This will affect many online features and will also see two trophies changed as part of the process. Dreams is available now for PS4. In terms of "number one streamer," it means that Usada Pekora is the female streamer with the most viewers. [Thanks, Yahoo!] Usada Pekora is a VTuber from the third generation of Hololive. She is also not the only Hololive member to be on the list. Other streamers with the highest viewing time for female streamers include Amane Kanata, Tsunomaki Watame, Sakura Miko, Oozora Subaru, and Hakui Koyori. All of these streamers are with Hololive. Streams Charts is not the only company that has been calculating streamer data, nor is this the only year in which Usada Pekora has achieved a high number of views. Police in Japan arrested a Konami employee for trying to murder his former boss with a fire extinguisher. According to reports, he used a fire extinguisher and hit the victim on the head. The police arrested him on the spot. After interrogating the culprit, the police charged him with attempted murder. [Thanks, Livedoor!] The reason why the police charged him with attempted murder is because the culprit said that the boss had been using his higher position in the company to harass him, and thus he had hit his former boss with the intent to kill. Power harassment could include a boss exercising their authority in a way that one could constitute it as bullying. The culprit has not given any particular examples of the power harassment. The attack happened at around 11am JST in Ginza Six, which is an office building in Tokyo. The culprit, who is 41 years old, approached his former boss (48) from behind and then tried to murder him with a fire extinguisher. His co-workers pinned him down. The victim survived with an injury that would put him in the hospital for a week. Though the culprit had gone to Konami's HR when they were on the same team to report him for power harassment, Konami stated that power harassment was not happening. It resolved the issue in 2020 by moving the culprit to another team. More information will appear in the future as to the culprit's sentence. People playing Digimon World: Next Order on the Switch worldwide now have Japanese voice acting as an audio option. Bandai Namco released at patch that brings the European version up to par with the North American one. At launch, it lacked the option. Here's the official announcement. At the beginning of March 2023, Bandai Namco announced it was working on a patch that would let people switch between English and Japanese voice acting when playing Digimon World: Next Order. While the PC version and North American Switch one already offered the audio option, the European one lacked it at launch.
Digimon World: Next Order is a more traditional sort of entry in the series. Players work alongside two partner Digimon and care for them, to help them become stronger and evolve into over 200 different characters. It originally appeared on the Vita in Japan, though a PS4 version debuted in 2017 worldwide. The Switch and PC ports appeared in February 2023 everywhere. Digimon World: Next Order is available on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PC, and Japanese voice acting is available as an audio option in the Switch version worldwide now. Three books in Yusei Matsui's comedy manga Assassination Classroom series have been removed from a Florida school's library after pressure from a conservative advocacy group. Jennifer Pippin, chair of the Indian River County chapter of Moms for Liberty, challenged the book's presence in Gifford Middle School's library because of the depiction of students wielding firearms. "We don't want students to think it's OK to kill their teachers," she was quoted as saying in a USA Today story. [Thanks, USA Today!] Assassination Classroom follows a class of middle schoolers being taught by an alien, who they must assassinate within a year to save the earth. The series inspired two animated films, a live action film, a mobile game and two 3DS games. It is published in North America by Viz, with the anime adaptation on Crunchyroll. It also appeared on Cartoon Network's Toonami. Pippin also challenged a graphic novel adaptation of the diary of Anne Frank, which was then removed from nearby Vero Beach High School. Anne Frank's Diary: The Graphic Adaptation, adapted by Ari Folman and illustrated by David Polonsky, was criticized for "sexually explicit" illustrations and for "minimalising the Holocaust." Other books on Frank, including her original diary, remain available in the school. Nintendo announced it will hold a Nintendo Live 2023 event in Seattle in September 2023. It didn't announce a location for the event yet. There are also no exact dates. However, it did confirm attendees will get to play game demos, take part in tournaments, see people in character costumes. The official site for the Nintendo Live 2023 Seattle event is live. It referenced four specific elements. It noted that there will be games present. Tournaments are mentioned in their own category. (Games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe or Splatoon 3 could show up in that area.) Photo opportunities will arise, with the official announcement mentioning Mario and Luigi being present. Finally, there will be some "live stage" element. As a reminder, there's another major gaming event that happens every year around September in Seattle. PAX West often is held there around that time. PAX West 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2020 all happened within the first week of the month. There are no dates for PAX West 2023 yet. We still don't know what games Nintendo has planned for the latter half of 2023 yet. We do know that Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp comes out on April 21, 2023, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will appear on May 12, 2023, and Pikmin 4 will appear on July 21, 2023. A mysterious disappearance is making waves on the Internet—the Lofi Girl, who has accompanied workers and students for years, is no longer next to her signature window. It seems that the Lofi Girl is in the process of moving rooms, though. The YouTube channel that streams it has another stream going on, showing a dark room with a countdown. [Thanks, Game Watch!] The other stream shows a dark room that has a fish tank, a desk, a calendar, a guitar, and a countdown. As of the time of writing, there is still around two and a half hours left in the countdown. That may be when we get answers as to the location of the Lofi Girl. Hints that something was going on had started appearing on April Fools'. She had stopped her eternal studying to take a nap while her cat watched her. Then, on April 9, 2023, the Lofi Girl looked out her window and saw a room in another room flash blue. This may be the same room that the channel is streaming now, since they're both blue. The new Resident Evil CGI movie, Resident Evil Death Island, will appear in theaters in Japan on July 7, 2023. There is a new trailer, as well as some screenshots, letting us see how familiar characters from the franchise will look like in the movie. In particular, the trailer is over two minutes long, and it shows the heroes shooting down zombies in Alcatraz Prison. [Thanks, Game Watch!] The story for Resident Evil Death Island will start with Leon chasing after an armed organization that kidnapped Antonio Taylor, who has knowledge on some classified information. However, a mysterious woman interferes during the chase and they escape. Meanwhile, Chris, Jill, and Rebecca of the BSAA are dealing with a zombie outbreak in the San Francisco. The Final Fantasy X kabuki stage play will start streaming from April 12, 2023 until October 31, 2023. Since the stage play covers the events of the entire game, it will be fairly long experience. It comes in at around nine hours. Aside from a reimagining of Final Fantasy X to have a more traditionally Japanese aesthetic, there will be lots of stage gimmicks. [Thanks, 4Gamer!] Each individual part costs 2,420 JPY ($18.10) to watch. If you want to watch the entire thing, then it's 4,400 JPY ($32.90). Those prices are for the basic HD version with stereo sound. The 4K 5.1ch surround sound version will cost 5,500 JPY ($41.10), and you will get to watch both parts. The tickets are valid within ten days of purchase, and you can stream the Final Fantasy X kabuki stage play on TBS Ticket, L-Tike Live Streaming, Rakuten TV, U-next, and e-plus. At certain parts of the play, the audience seating will move around to make room for props. There will also be a large screen that will play holographic backgrounds. Onoe Kikunosuke, who is the actor for Tidus, also doubled as the planner for the play. The play was available to watch physically in Japan from March 4, 2023, and its last day will be April 12, 2023. Attack on Titan is now officially in Fortnite, with Eren, Levi, Mikasa cosmetics and other elements from the series now present in-game. Levi, Mikasa, and customizable Regiment Cloak Back Bling are in the Item Shop. Eren can be earned in the Battle Pass. People can also find Omni-Directional Mobility (ODM) Gear and Thunder Spears while playing or head to Jaeger's Family Basement. Some of the items you'll find just by playing Fortnite. If you check things like Chests and Scout Regiment Footlockers, you can find Thunder Spears to use as weapons and ODM Gear for maneuvering. Titan Targets will also appear around, and Jaeger's Family Basement will be in Anvil Square. The Week 5 Quest also involves a Courageous Mikasa Spray reward. Meanwhile the Trigger Happy Trials has a Scowling Levi Emoticon. As for things to buy, there are three in the Item Shop. People can get a Captain Levi Outfit with Transformation Serum Back Bling. There is also a Mikasa Ackerman Outfit with Ore Light Back Bling. People who get the Regiment Cloak Back Bling can also choose if it has the Cadet Corps, Garrison, Military Police, or Scout emblem. As for the Battle Pass, there are nine Attack on Titan elements to earn in Chapter 4 Season 2. People can earn a back bling, banner icon, Dedicate Your Heart emote, emoticon, loading screen, pickaxe, spray, wrap, and Eren Jaeger Outfit. At the moment, there are issues with Guilty Gear Strive online multiplayer, with matchmaking and server issues. For example, the official subreddit for the series has a megathread for its server status, and New Head FGC on Twitter shared how to file a support ticket. However, Arc System Works Esports Manager Junior Ferreira said there will be an official update discussing Guilty Gear Strive online multiplayer "soon." It will apparently go over what the team at the developer is working on to fix the game. Here's Ferreira's official statement. It noted both the official Twitter account and website will both share the update once it is prepared.
Guilty Gear Strive is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC. The most recent update added Delilah and Bedman? as a DLC character. How to become Hollow in Project Mugetsu Before you can become an Arrancar in Project Mugetsu, you need to become a Hollow. Becoming a Hollow begins by talking to Aizen who can be found by looking for the red fire icon. To complete Aizen's quest, you need to defeat one Soul Reaper which is harder than it seems. If there are other players around, try to recruit them to help you. After utilizing your attacks, blocks, and the environment to defeat a Soul Reaper, return to Aizen. Choosing to be a Hollow is a permanent decision that can only be reset by Legendary Orbs found from bosses or purchased by Robux. After you have gotten Shikai, you need to continue the grind to reach Bankai which will enable you to be an insanely powerful Soul Reaper. Project Mugetsu: How to unlock Bankai To get Bankai in Project Mugetsu, you need to reach Meditation level 50. I know, it's awful. If you've reached Meditation level 20 for Shikai, you know how painful grinding that many levels is. If you're new, it'll take you around 100 to 150 successful Meditations to reach Meditation level 20 and around 250 to 300 to reach Meditation level 50. It hands over the keys to a movie studio, letting you hire writers and directors to craft scripts and produce movies across genres. It almost sounds like a spiritual successor to The Movies, a fantastic tycoon game from 2005 that has been crying out for a remake or sequel. Sadly, Moviehouse doesn't capture the same charm as The Movies, nor does it improve on any of the concepts from 2005. In fact, it actually goes backwards with gameplay so simplistic you might think you're playing a mobile game. |
