Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Wednesday, November 8, 2023 12:00 PM  Hallowe'en may be over (just), but for this month's Reality Frights, I've got a wonderfully seasonal game for you. It's the brand-new remake of the grand old mystery puzzler The 7th Guest, a game which Bill Gates notably referred to as "The new standard of interactive entertainment." In fairness to ol' William, he said this seven months before Doom blew out the new standard's insides with a 12-gauge shotgun, shunting PC gamers' tastes away from kitsch adventure games and toward grisly murder-fests. But The 7th Guest is nonetheless fondly remembered for its spooky atmosphere, alongside its blend of pre-rendered backgrounds and live action cutscenes you could call 'pioneering' had it not proved such an evolutionary dead end. Today, the original 7th Guest looks more dated than Henry VIII, which is probably why this remake replaces everything but the very skeleton of the 1993 original. The game still takes place in a creepy mansion belonging to a murderous toymaker, and still involves six eccentric guests to the house searching for a missing boy named Tad. But it's otherwise been completely rebuilt, with whole new puzzles and whole new mechanics, all designed to be experienced in first-person VR. |

I've long admired their intricate dances of orbs and criss-crossing laser fire, but I have long resigned myself to merely being a spectator of such games, rather than an active ship pilot. Cobalt Core, however, is exactly my kind of speed. It's not a bullet hell shooter, but it is about two spaceships facing off against each other in an eyes-locked duel of incoming cannon fire, and sliding side to side to avoid getting exploded as you attempt to unravel the mysterious timeloop your crew of weird space animals appear to be stuck in. Just, you know, in a neat, turn-based fashion, where your opponent's attacks are flagged up in advance, and you must use your randomised deck of cards to weave and dodge your way to victory. It's very moreish, and very Into The Breach. I love it. |

The next game from developer Arbitrary Metric, Roman Sands RE:Build, is... very different, at least on the surface. The first Act of the new Steam demo sees you staggering onto the beach below some kind of tropical resort. You wander up past the pools to the cavernous lobby and are immediately set upon by haggard guests, who appear to think you're a member of staff. So you become a member of staff, fetching margaritas, tracking down the check-in ledger and running downstairs to adjust the boiler settings. You earn XP from quests towards employee ranks that unlock useful items at vending machines. And you try to work out what you're doing here, and why everybody's so terrified of the sun. I haven't deciphered the mystery yet. |

Square Enix revealed the Final Fantasy XIV Callback Campaign, a recurring campaign to welcome past FFXIV players back, is live again in-game. The promotion is now live and lasts until December 14, 2023.
How the event works is that it is an opportunity to potentially get past players back into the game. If someone in your Friends or Free Company Member list hasn't played for at least 90 days and owns the game, you can then select "Invite Friend to Return" from the menu. It appears below the "Assign Friend Group" message in the drop-down menu. You can invite people up to five times. In Mog Station, you can check the "No. of Friends Called Back" section to see if anyone responded to your invitation.
From there, you get a reward if the people you do invite return. The delivery Moogle in-game will give you 5 Gold Chocobo Feathers. This only happens if someone who gets the Callback Campaign email subscribes again after you send an invite. The official page noted that you can get a Twintania mount for 15 Gold Chocobo Feathers, an Amber Draught Chocobo mount for 8, a Managarm mount for 8, five Rare Dyes for one, and 10 Aetheryte Tickets for one.
Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, and PC, and the FFXIV Callback Campaign runs until December 14, 2023. The Fall Guys crossover campaign is also now live in the game for a limited time.

Once again, Nijisanji Vtuber Fulgur Ovid is on hiatus, with the performer's new schedule showing his break. It started on November 8, 2023.
Ovid didn't mention how long this latest hiatus will be. The announcement only noted that he will use the time to "recharge" and that he's saying goodbye "for now." Prior to the departure, he took part in an Ultimate Chicken Horse stream with Noctyx members Alban Knox, Sonny Brisko, and Uki Violeta. There was also a Totsumachi Karaoke stream on November 7, 2023. The day before he took off, he also held a talking Zatsudan stream.
Here's the announcement from Fulgur Ovid about his break, with the Nijisanji Vtuber thanking people for watching and supporting him before taking time off.
The Zatsudan, which is called "I Wish You All a Very Fond Farewell… for Now," is available to watch. Much of it included thanks to his fans for watching and supporting him. You can watch it below:
This isn't the first time Ovid went on hiatus in 2023. The performer previously announced back in May 2023 that he'd be taking some time off. At the time, he cited health reasons for the absence. That break ended up lasting about a month. He ended up returning on June 4, 2023.
The Nijisanji Noctyx member Fulgur Ovid is now on break, and there's no word yet on when he might return to streaming.

In what seemed to be a leak, Persona 5 Tactica ended up already available to purchase and play on Steam for the PC briefly on November 8, 2023. Its release date is November 17, 2023. [Thanks, Wario64 and Faz!]
The game was supposed to appear on Steam on either November 16, 2023 or November 17, 2023, depending on your region. However, the page updated and the game was temporarily live and able to be purchased. Both the $59.99 standard and $79.99 digital deluxe versions were already available. As Wario64 and SteamDB noted shortly after, Atlus and Valve caught and fixed the issue.
This also was apparently a playable version. Those who purchased Persona 5 Tactica on Steam following the update showed it can already be played on a PC immediately. As noted by Faz on social media, the person was already in the main menu and starting the game.
Here's a screenshot of the Steam page as of 10:20am ET on November 8, 2023, showing the game was already live. The release date also appeared changed temporarily when this happened.
The official Persona 5 Tactica release date is November 17, 2023. It will appear on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC. Repaint Your Heart DLC adds Goro and Kasumi.

Rockstar Games announced that the first trailer for the new Grand Theft Auto game, which could be GTA 6, is coming in early December 2023. This first-ever official look at the title is being released to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the publisher.
Bloomberg previously shared rumors that the long-awaited trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 would be coming sometime during December 2023 in association with the 25th anniversary. No official word had been given by Rockstar Games until the announcement made on November 8, 2023.
Rumors have spread about GTA 6 for nearly a decade as fans of the franchise awaited more information about the follow-up to the extremely successful Grand Theft Auto 5. Back in September 2022, developer footage of the new Grand Theft Auto game leaked through a network hack into Rockstar Games. Two UK-based teens were charged with the illegal hack into Rockstar Games' network.
Grand Theft Auto 5 recently joined one of the various subscription services. It is on Xbox Game Pass, making it available to Xbox players who pay for access to the library. Rockstar Games also recently released Red Dead Redemption with the Undead Nightmare expansion onto the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. The collection released digitally on August 17, 2023, and released physically on October 13, 2023.
More information about the next Grand Theft Auto game will be released early December 2023. Grand Theft Auto 5 is currently available on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Square Enix shared new concept art of one of the dress options that Cloud can wear in FFVII Remake. The dress showcased is the second option out of three available.
While Cloud can wear three different dresses during the infiltration of Don Corneo's mansion, the dress shown is the second one available. This dress can be accessed if the player completes three particular Odd Jobs during Chapter 9, The Town That Never Sleeps. These Odd Jobs are The Party Never Stops, A Dynamite Body, and Burning Thighs.

The post above mentions that the concept art of Cloud shows him before applying makeup. You can see the comparison with the in-game render of Cloud. In addition, Madam M and Chocobo Sam have additional dialogue if Cloud talks to them wearing a dress.
Meanwhile, to access the first dress available to Cloud in FFVII Remake, players need to ignore all side quests in Chapter 9. Square Enix previously shared concept art of this dress through its social media accounts.
Final Fantasy VII Remake is immediately available on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Windows PC. Its sequel, FFVII Rebirth, will come out for the PlayStation 5 on February 29, 2024. An exclusivity arrangement will end on May 29, 2024.

Good Smile Company announced that pre-orders for a Pop Up Parade figure of Sayori from Doki Doki Literature Club are open. You will have until December 7, 2023 to put in your orders.
The Sayori figure Pop Up Parade figure costs 4800 JPY or $31.99. Those in Japan can expect to get her some time in May 2024. Meanwhile, Good Smile Company will ship out the figure in Q4 2024 for North America.
Pop Up Parade figures from Good Smile Company are generally around 17-18 centimeters tall. You also cannot change their poses. The Doki Doki Literature Club Sayori Pop Up Parade figure looks like she's waving hello at you, since she's got her arm up and a big smile on her face. It looks as if she's in the middle of running towards the protagonist as well. In the past, Good Smile Company also released a Nendoroid of her.
In Doki Doki Literature Club, Sayori is the Vice President of the Literature Club, and she's also the protagonist's childhood friend. At first, she fits the classic archetype of the bubbly and cheery childhood best friend. However, players will quickly learn that there is more behind her happy facade when they find out just what kind of game Doki Doki Literature Club is.

A Pokemon Mudkip plush bundle is available to order from Build-a-Bear. This set costs $72, and it's only available online.
The bundle will come with the Mudkip plush, a raincoat set, and a sleeper. Though Build-a-Bear offers the option to turn your toy into a scented one, the Mudkip is not eligible for that. The plush will also come with a sound chip which can play five different sounds. If you click on the video on the webpage for it, you can hear what it sounds like. Mudkip sounds like it does in the anime rather than in the game. You can put the sleeper (which looks like a onesie) or the raincoat on Mudkip, or you can simply leave it as is.
The Pokemon franchise has always been popular with the toy market due to the many species in the series. Build-a-Bear has released several Pokemon plushes in the past. Examples include Teddiursa, Sprigatito, Growlithe, Leafeon, and Umbreon.
Mudkip is the Water-type starter from Generation III (Ruby, Sapphire). It looks similar to animals like mudskippers or axolotls. It is a fairly popular Pokemon not only for its design, but also due to it being the subject of the "So i herd u liek mudkipz?" [sic] meme, which spread on the Internet during the early to mid 2000s.
