PCGamesN Tuesday, August 20, 2024 12:41 PM Half-Life Blue Shift is not to be underestimated. Alongside the other expansion, Opposing Force, and of course the tentpole Gordon Freeman adventure proper, the story of Barney's worst ever day at Black Mesa might seem comparatively minor. But it's a fantastic FPS, lighter, swifter, and often funnier than its siblings, and offering a totally different perspective on the disastrous resonance cascade. Built by Gearbox, alongside all the others, Blue Shift feels like the most forgotten Half-Life game. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, August 20, 2024 2:00 PM Announced at this year's Geoffcom, RoadCraft is a new game courtesy of the vehicular bods behind MudRunner and SnowRunner. This means it's very much a simulation game where you're fighting terrain with tyres, except this time you aren't just driving about, but managing a fleet of machines to carry out heavy construction work. Think a mixture of logistics, cars, cranes, and paving some lovely new roads from a once dilapidated junk heap. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, August 20, 2024 10:43 AM As much as I'm a sucker for the grimmest and darkest of grimdark fantasy settings, the try-hardness of it all can get a bit grating at times. You could make the same argument at the opposite end of spectrum, of course. Cosy games seem locked in a perpetual arms-race to twee each other into the dirt, chopping their rival's dog-petting hands off and taking a sparkly tinkle on their pastel corpses. But hand-drawn RPG Heroes Of The Seven Islands feels more authentic than all that. It's bedroom antifolk by way of chill dungeon synth, by way of an antelope sorcerer named Jean-Pierre. |

Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, August 20, 2024 6:15 AM Our Black Myth: Wukong review hails the game as "a generous Soulsy adventure hybrid that works within its limitations and delivers a beautiful challenge to be unpicked with a magical toolbox". Reviewer Edders went so far as to find the world more engaging than that of Elden Ring - proper defying-the-gods level rhetoric. Players seem to agree. The game launched last night, and has already accrued a concurrent player peak of 1.44 million - Steam's fourth highest ever, exceeded only by Counter-Strike, Palworld and PUBG. By that metric, it's the platform's most popular strictly single player game of all the time. All that goodwill has been spoiled, however, by a Steam code handout message to streamers and other "content creators" before launch which includes some reactionary, non-binding requests - no mention of "trigger words" like "Covid-19", no talk of "politics" or "feminist propaganda", and no mention of "China's game industry policies, opinions, news, etc". |

Mages announced that it has delayed the release of The Quintessential Quintuplets: Gotopazu Story 2nd. The game was originally slated for release on September 26, 2024. However, the company noted in this announcement that it moved the release date to October 31, 2024.
In its announcement for the delay, Mages noted that it wants to further improve the game's quality. This is a common reason that Japanese companies use when they need more time to polish a game from probable bugs and other issues.
This game will be a direct sequel to Gotopazu Story, which gathers stories from the franchise's puzzle mobile game into a compilation of visual novels. The new second entry will contain stories from the second season of the TV anime and events from the second year of the mobile game.
It will not include stories from the first part. That means people who want to catch up will have to get the first entry, which has been available for purchase on the Switch and PS4 since June 2023. The new game will also be available on the same two platforms.
After getting delayed, The Quintessential Quintuplets: Gotopazu Story 2nd will now be available for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 in Japan on October 31, 2024.

Square Enix announced the Final Fantasy XIV The Rising 2024 event, and this time you can get a Pictomancer Krile minion for participating. The event starts on August 27, 2024, and it will run until September 11, 2024.
To take part this year, you need to be at level 15. If you are, then you can head to Limsa Lominsa, Upper Decks to talk to the Wandering Minstrel at X:11.3, Y:13.7. This lets you start the "Rising to the Call" quest to help prepare for the festival.
There are two rewards you can get from The Rising in Final Fantasy XIV for the 2024 version of the event: Brushed-up Krile Minion and Rising Table Lamp. As mentioned, she's carrying a Pictomancer brush for this version of the character. This includes her cat-hood coat, though the hood is down for the Minion form. As for the Rising Table Lamp, it is a piece of furnishing that can be placed on a table on your home.
Here's how both of those items look:
In 2023, The Rising brought with it a Rising Phoenix Mount. The 2022 version featured a Clockwork Solus Minion. In 2021, you could get a Red Moon Parasol and Nymeia Potpourri.
Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and The Rising will be held August 27, 2024 through September 11, 2024.

Square Enix announced that the FFV Brave Blade replica heading to the PC version of FFXVI will also eventually appear on the PS5 as well. There's no release date for it, however.
The FFV Brave Blade PS5 announcement appeared on the official Final Fantasy XVI social media account, and it also shared a first picture of the sword in the PC version of FFXVI. The sword features a red blade and hilt, with gold accents on the handle and pommel and a green gem on the cross guard. Here's how it looks:
As a reminder, we get the Brave Blade as basically an early purchase bonus for FFXVI. It, a Cait Sith Charm accessory that boosts how much Gil Clive earns, and a "Sixteen Bells" Orchestrion Roll will all be given to all players who buy it before October 17, 2024. You do need to be connected to the internet to get them, however.
There's no word when the PS5 version of FFXVI will get the weapon other than "a later date." Square Enix also noted that the sword could be made available for PC players who don't buy the game before October 17, 2024 as well.
The Brave Blade first appeared in FFV as a weapon for Bartz. It gets its name from the mechanic tied to it. The more often you run from battle, the weaker it gets. Other Final Fantasy games with Bartz also featured the hero wielding this as a signature weapon.
Final Fantasy XVI is available for the PlayStation 5, and it will come to PCs via the Epic Games Store and Steam on September 17, 2024.
