PCGamesN Wednesday, September 25, 2024 3:51 PM We have plenty of pirate games. There are adventure games like Return to Monkey Island, simulators like Sea of Thieves, strategy projects such as Sid Meier's Pirates, and action-focused RPG games including Risen 3: Titan Lords and Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag. As good as these games may be, however, none of them allow a crew of pirates to set out on their missions from the back of a giant mechanized crab. Fortunately, we now have DuneCrawl and its towering crustaceans to fill this obvious void in the pirate game landscape. |
PCGamesN Wednesday, September 25, 2024 2:37 PM The Metal Gear Solid series constitutes some of the best videogames to date, especially the first 3D entries, Metal Gear Solid, MGS2: Sons of Liberty, and MGS3: Snake Eater. When these three games, along with their older predecessors, arrived with new PC versions last year in the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1, the relaunch should have been a layup. Unfortunately, though, the ports didn't come out in particularly great shape, making it harder than it should be for players on modern PCs to return to or discover them for the first time. The good news is that now, almost a year after the collection launched, the included games are getting properly updated. |
PCGamesN Wednesday, September 25, 2024 2:06 PM Horror has lost something in recent years, in part because the fidelity of games has massively improved. In the 1990s you would be forced to fill in what you were seeing and experiencing with your imagination, making something far scarier than anything that was actually happening on screen. The most terrifying place to be is inside your imagination which is why classics like Silent Hill and Resident Evil remain compelling, so many years later. Fear the Spotlight is a game that understands this very well, with a retro aesthetic that tugs at the darkest recesses of your brain, and it's finally about to get its full release on Steam. PCGamesN Wednesday, September 25, 2024 1:41 PM Games can become overly complicated very easily, the desire to incorporate a wealth of features working at times to bog down the core concept of a project. This tendency can make even the best strategy games difficult to get into, great entries to the genre like Crusader Kings 3, Civilization 6, or Total War: Pharaoh offering a welcome level of complexity to veteran players but, especially in the case of the first game mentioned above, a steep learning curve for newcomers. Because of this, games that simplify genre design, boiling it down to its foundation, are more than welcome. One of the best recent examples of this approach to design is Thronefall, which has just announced that it's leaving Early Access on Steam very soon. Continue reading Stunning strategy game Thronefall is leaving Early Access very soon MORE FROM PCGAMESN: Best strategy games, Best tower defense games, Best city building games |
PCGamesN Wednesday, September 25, 2024 12:58 PM Tenet of the Spark has a great premise. While the upcoming action game features a fantastic visual style, its characters moving through a colorful world with loose-limbed cartoon energy, and its Sifu-style melee combat seems solid, it's the concept that animates its story of a boxer out to solve a mystery that really grabs attention. In short, Tenet of the Spark's protagonist lives in the modern world but, in a Devil May Cry 5 or Assassin's Creed-like twist, can also see his surroundings and enemies through the time-warping worldview of an Aztec or Viking warrior, each with their own combat style. PCGamesN Wednesday, September 25, 2024 12:24 PM Sony just launched the Sony Inzone M10S, a high-performance gaming monitor built with competitive players in mind. This 27-inch OLED display, developed in collaboration with esports team Fnatic, is being touted as "tournament ready." We've not tested it ourselves, but if Sony's claims hold true, then it's certainly one of the fastest gaming monitors available today. Either way, it's clear this isn't a display for casual gamers. The Inzone M10S ships with a 480Hz refresh rate and 0.03ms response time, making this 1440p QHD Sony OLED monitor a strong alternative to the MSI MPG271QRX QD-OLED, which is currently in our best gaming monitor guide as our top choice for FPS esports players who want an OLED. PCGamesN Wednesday, September 25, 2024 12:22 PM The tail end of 2024 and the start of 2025 are set to see a flurry of gaming GPU activity, if all the rumors are true, with AMD, Intel, and Nvidia all reportedly gearing up for new graphics card launches. The latest leak to hint at what to expect concerns the Battlemage Intel GPU range, with a new graphics card apparently shown as running at a huge clock speed of 2,850MHz. That would make it the fastest-clocked GPU of any modern card. However, the best graphics cards don't always need to run at the fastest clock speeds to deliver peak performance. Plus, we are yet to see what sort of clock speed AMD and Nvidia's next-gen GPUs will boast, so it's too early to yet tell if this new Intel GPU will come to rule the roost. PCGamesN Wednesday, September 25, 2024 12:22 PM AMD's first Zen 5 gaming CPU with 3D V-cache is due to be released in just a few weeks, according to the latest leak. Unlike the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, which came out a few months after the 7950X3D and 7000X3D, the new AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D is reportedly going to be the first Zen 5 X3D chip to be released into the wild. If it's true, this strategy makes perfect sense to us. Even now, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is still the best gaming CPU we've reviewed, thanks to its great performance for the price. You don't need to pay for more than eight cores for gaming, and the 7800X3D's single-chiplet design means that all its cores have access to the big 64MB stack of extra cache on top of it. Conversely, there can be latency issues with the AMD 7950X3D and 7900X3D, as the cache is only on one of the chiplets, meaning some of the cores can't access it. PCGamesN Wednesday, September 25, 2024 12:04 PM When is the AC Shadows release date? We've been clamoring for an Assassin's Creed set in feudal Japan right from the series' inception. After 16 years, that dream is finally a reality, and there's plenty to learn about its characters, gameplay, and real-life historical events before launch. PCGamesN first got wind of Assassin's Creed Shadows during the Ubisoft Showcase event we attended way back in 2022. Previously known as Codename Red, this latest entry in the stealth RPG game series transports us to the turbulent Azuchi-Momoyama period. We'll witness Obu Nobunaga's bid to unify Japan through the eyes of dual protagonists Fujibayashi Naoe, the fictional daughter of ninja master Fujibayashi Nagato, and Yasuke, the first playable historical figure in the series. Not only that, but the Antec Shift ARGB vertical graphics card adapter is designed to work with all standard ATX, E-ATX and mATX PC case designs, whether they're made by Antec or not. The idea of a universal vertical GPU mount isn't new, and we've already seen similar designs from some of the best PC case manufacturers out there, including Cooler Master and Fractal Design. PCGamesN Wednesday, September 25, 2024 11:34 AM PlayStation's PC port strategy has been a proper mixed bag. Helldivers 2 was a colossal success (apart from the PSN fiasco), and Ghost of Tsushima is the biggest single-player PC launch the studio has ever had on Steam. By contrast, games like Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and Uncharted haven't made nearly as big an impact. Now, in rolls God of War Ragnarok, and while the launch has done well, it's not hit nearly the same heights as Sony Santa Monica's first game in the Norse duology. Hololive Vtuber Amelia Watson, who is going to step back from streaming and confirmed her graduation, shared her last stream schedule and Myth collab announcement. The final schedule covers September 25-30, 2024. The Myth collab will be held on September 29, 2024, though it also seems there is a potential for another one or two collab streams to show up during this week.
The first two streams Amelia has planned for this week are Elden Ring endurance ones. The first will be at 1pm PT/4pm ET/10pm CET on September 25, 2024. She'll close out that run the next day on September 26, 2024, with the second stream airing at the same time. Note that these, as with all of her streams, will be on YouTube.
From there, the run of final Vtuber collab streams ahead of the final Amelia Watson graduation stream appear on her schedule. She announced a Valve Multiplayer Marathon for 1pm PT/4pm ET/10pm CET on September 27, 2024. Given those are multiplayer games, there's a chance we could see others join her. On September 28, 2024, she announced an Ocean Charity Stream and two "extra collab streams." While there's no time set for the extra collab streams, the charity one will be at 1pm PT/4pm ET/10pm CET. The last Hololive Myth collab stream with Amelia Watson that includes all four other members will be held at 4pm PT/7pm ET on September 29, 2024. However, Amelia also promised an unarchived karaoke stream that day at 8pm PT/11pm ET for members as well.
Finally, the last stream for Amelia Watson will be on her graduation date. That will happen at 5pm PT/8pm ET on September 30, 2024.
Here is the Amelia Watson social media post with the final schedule for the Hololive Vtuber:
The Amelia Watson graduation will happen on September 30, 2024, though she will continue to appear as an "affiliate" for Hololive after it. She joined the company in September 2020.

A new update patch for the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection has added new resolution options for two of the games. The patch is available now for Steam players and will roll out for console versions at a later date.
The added resolution options apply to Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3, with the patch adding two presets as well as custom settings. Players can choose to run both games at their original resolutions, or can now select Adjusted Mode, which runs at a native 1080p. However, this can be upscaled to 1440p or 4K. The highest possible resolution for your system will be selected automatically. The FMV sequences from the game can also be displayed at their original resolution or upscaled to 1080p.
As well as new resolution adjustments, the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection patch adds control remapping. Once again, this only applies to either Sons of Liberty or Snake Eater. Controls can be remapped for both controller and keyboard and mouse, or presets can be used. A new setting for mouse sensitivity has also been added.
While these resolution options can potentially make Metal Gear Solid 3 look better, a higher fidelity remake is also on the way. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is currently in development and, according to the development team, is now playable from start to end. However, a release date has yet to be announced.
Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X/S. The latest patch is available now for PC, with a console patch on its way at a later date.

Hobby Japan has opened pre-orders for a new figure of Sophie Neuenmuller based on her first appearance in Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book with a competitive swimsuit attire. The figure will formally appear in mid-2025 with a price tag of ¥19,800 (~$137.30).
This new Sophie figure will have a scale of 1/7. The figure will have a height of around 24 cm (~9,45 inches) when measured up to Sophie's head, or 25 cm (~9.84 inches) if her ahoge hair is also measured. The pedestal for this figure will be based on a poolside floor.
Here are some of the sample images of the figure taken from several angles:
Sophie is not the only Atelier series character to have a swimsuit figure produced. Good Smile Company had previously revealed swimsuit figures of Ryza and Lila from the Atelier Ryza sub-series in 2021. The same company revealed in June 2024 that it will produce new swimsuit figures for both characters, with Klaudia Valentz also newly added to the lineup.
Hobby Japan will close the pre-order window for the swimsuit figure of Sophie Neuenmuller from Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book on December 17, 2024. The company will deliver the finished figures between June and July 2024.

Square Enix announced it will release Triangle Strategy, a game originally released on consoles and PCs, in VR on the Meta Quest. It will launch on October 31, 2024.
While the game normally costs $59.99 on other platforms, the Meta Quest VR version of Triangle Strategy will be $29.99. However, there is a pre-order promotion that discounts that price further. It is $25.99 ahead of launch. That sale ends at launch on October 31, 2024. The product page is live and confirms that the Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3, and Meta Quest Pro will all support the game.
Square Enix's first trailer for the game also shows what to expect when playing Triangle Strategy in VR. You will essentially have an overhead view of the battlefield. You will use the Meta Quest controllers to place them on the map. It also seems you'll be able to rotate the map to get a better 3D view of the space. As for story scenes, it seems as those will play out in a viewer that appears ahead of you.
Here's the announcement video for the title.
Triangle Strategy first launched as a Nintendo Switch game in March 2022. A few months after that, a PC version appeared on Steam in October 2022. It is a traditional, turn-based strategy game with an isometric perspective on both platforms, but also uses the HD-2D sort of art direction involved in other Square Enix and Team Asano.
Triangle Strategy will come to the Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3, and Meta Quest Pro on October 31, 2024.

HoYoVerse launched a new Zenless Zone Zero web event called Assembly Commission: Return to Ridu. It aims to encourage players to bring other players back into the game who may have not signed in for a while, with rewards including physical prizes. The event started on September 25, 2024, and it will run until October 21, 2024.
Zenless Zone Zero players who sign up to the Return to Ridu event will be given an invite link. Players can send this link to players who haven't signed in for at least two weeks, and the sender will receive Polychromes and the chance to win various major prizes. Anyone who receives and then uses the invite link will also receive a link of their own, so they can invite others to rejoin.
Rewards for the Return to Ridu event include up to 510 Polychromes and 20 lucky draws for any Zenless Zone Zero players who participate. The lucky draws can be used to potentially win prizes including a PS5 and an Anby 1/7 Scale Figure. Character stands are also available as prizes, along with in-game rewards such as Polychromes, Official Investigator Logs, W-Engine Power Supplies, Banboo Algorithm Modules and Dennies. The Anby figure will not be shipped until August 2025, so winners of that prize will have to wait a little to receive it.
The web event is designed to encourage players back to the game in time for the latest Version 1.2 update. This coincides with new story content focused on the Sons of Calydon faction and set in the new location of the Outer Ring.

As part of the promotion cycle for the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake, Konami opened the Silent Hill Historical Society website, a new alternate reality game created by Daiyonkyokai. However, it seems likely that the Silent Hill Historical Society website features AI art. [Thanks, Sisslethecat on X!]
The newly unveiled Silent Hill Historical Society website is available in both English and Japanese, and it features information about the fictional city as if it were a real location, including maps and even the fictional staff members of the association. Additionally, you can find various seemingly innocuous hints towards new updates being included in the page in the future.
However, artist and writer October Keegan (@Sisslethecat on social media) spotted some inconsistencies on the art featured in the Silent Hill Historical Society website that seem to indicate it was created using generative AI. While Konami commissioned the site, Japanese company Daiyonkyokai was ultimately responsible for the creation of the website, and there are no signs that remake developers Bloober Team had a hand on it either. Neither made a comment on it as of time of writing.
You can check out the AI art featured on the Silent Hill 2 remake Historical Society website here, courtesy of October Keegan:
Silent Hill 2 will come out for the PS5 and Windows PC on October 8, 2024. The game will be a PS5 console exclusive for one year.

Atlus announced that there will be a Persona 5 Royal AirAsia plane. However, people will need to wait until October 2024 to learn more about the collaboration and how someone can get to fly on it.
AirAsia offers flights both within Malaysia and worldwide, though only its AirAsia X branch flies to Honolulu, Hawaii in the US. The initial Atlus announcement didn't reveal details about the Persona 5 Royal plane and flights. Instead, it clarified the model aircraft that will feature the design and showed concept art. The Airbus 320 9M-AFF will be the one getting the Persona treatment.

All Nippon Airways features Pokemon-inspired flights, complete with special in-flight safety videos and other exclusive features.

In the third part of The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Nintendo interview series, Eiji Aonuma and Satoshi Terada explained exactly how much bigger the size of its map is than the remake of Link's Awakening on the Switch. While it started out as four times larger, it turned to eight times bigger.
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom map size came up when discussing how Hyrule looked, and that's when both Nintendo's Aonuma and Grezzo's Terada explained how much bigger it is than Link's Awakening. Aonuma first mentioned the initial concept involved the game's world being "four times the size." Terada explained, "However, we packed in so many things we wanted to do to create this "Legend of Zelda-like" feeling, and the map ended up eight times the size of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening."
Aonuma also elaborated on the size of the map in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom in another response. He touched on how it may be larger than expected, it still feels like other top-down entries. He said, "However, although the map has become much larger, the feeling of a top-down The Legend of Zelda game, where you can easily enjoy gameplay in a compact world, is still there, so it isn't intimidating to explore. So you'll be able to play with a slightly different feeling compared to the vast worlds of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild or The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom."
Tomomi Sano also compared The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom to Link's Awakening, touching on the range. She noted, "…The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening was set on a single island, but in this game, you get to explore a variety of different places in Hyrule. There are Gerudo, Gorons, and Deku Scrubs, who we haven't seen for a while. As many may know, the world of Hyrule is home to many different cultural regions, and the diverse graphics for each of their regions that Grezzo has crafted with love are really something to see."
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom will come to the Nintendo Switch on September 26, 2024.

Characters from Atlus' Metaphor: ReFantazio will have figures made by multiple companies, and some of them have published unpainted prototypes of the figures. The upcoming figures will include a regular figure of Gallica by Kotobukiya and the Protagonist's Nendoroid by Good Smile Company. Bandai Namco is also working on SH Figuarts figures of the hero too.
Gallica will be the first Metaphor: ReFantazio character to have a scaled figure made by Kotobukiya. The company had also announced plans to produce another figure featuring Hulkenberg in June 2024.
Kotobukiya has shared a sample image for the unpainted prototype of Gallica's figure on its X account. The company will also bring the prototype to multiple events across Japan, such as Tokyo Game Show 2024 at Makuhari Messe on September 26-29, 2024, and MegaHobby Expo in Akihabara on September 28, 2024.
Good Smile Company has also separately published an unpainted prototype for the basic version of the Metaphor: ReFantazio Protagonist Nendoroid at exactly the same time. Unlike the above regular scaled figure, this Nendoroid will depict the character in chibi proportions with a large head and small body.
Finally, here's Bandai Namco's samples. These will be posable SH Figuarts figures with additional parts for posing.
Atlus will release Metaphor: ReFantazio for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PCs worldwide on October 11, 2024. The figures based on the game's characters like Gallica and the Protagonist will be available later on.

Here is the full list of 12 songs that Atlus will feature in this clock:
While most of the Persona 4 merchandise features character plushes and Persona figures, there has also been other unique merchandise revealed earlier. An example of this was the sake bottle featuring Teddie which appeared in 2023.
