madoka homura japanese dolls

Furyu has opened up pre-orders for 1/4 scale figures of Japanese dolls of Madoka and Homura from Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Rebellion. These dolls depict them wearing Japanese kimono, looking like they're ready for the New Year's or some other important festival.

You can get either one on their own, or a collection of both. Buying both of them at once will also net you an acrylic case to display them in. Each doll costs 198,000 JPY ($1348.10) or you can buy both for 396,000 JPY ($2696.20). These are pretty pricey, but these are completely made to order and as they're 1/4 scales, they're quite big. Pre-orders are open until December 9, 2024 and they'll come out some time in December 2025. Shipment will start in December 2025. Furyu offers international shipping, so overseas customers can also purchase these dolls.

Doll artist Ayumi Uyama designed the costumes. The kimono aren't exactly traditional, and combines some Western styles and sensibilities into them. This seems to be a reference to their magical girl outfits. Non-traditional elements include the lace at the collar and hem. While Madoka is holding a temari ball in her hand, Homura is holding a bag. The bag's design makes it look as if she's carting around Kyubey's decapitated head.

The Madoka and Homura Japanese dolls are available for pre-order via Furyu and will come out in December 2025.

nier automata ver1.1a puppet show

The last puppet show episode for Nier Automata Ver1.1a has appeared on X (formerly Twitter), depicting a happy ending. The short clip shows 2B handing 9S a bouquet of flowers and then everyone cheers.

Here is the clip on the final puppet show episode for Nier Automata Ver1.1a via its creator's X:

https://twitter.com/m0ge/status/1841086653022290001

Aoki Yuka (moge) was the one in charge of the C parts in Nier Automata Ver1.1a. These little shorts appear at the end of the episode, showing puppet versions of the characters. Considering how the actual episodes are rather dramatic and tragic, they can be fun and cute palate cleansers. The contrast is also something that is in Yoko Taro's works ever since the early days of Drakengard, which can be very humorous in tone despite how dark the narrative can get.

Nier Automata Ver1.1a is the anime adaptation of Nier Automata. Though it includes elements that weren't in the game proper, it mostly follows along the plot. It started airing in January 2023 and recently had its final episode on September 27, 2024, with a total of 24 episodes.

Nier Automata Ver1.1a is available on streaming services like Crunchyroll. As for the game, you can play it on the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC.

Phantasy Star IV

Both as a console maker and afterward as a third-party publisher, SEGA has released a lot of JRPGs. From the likes of Phantasy Star all the way up to the modern age of Like A Dragon, the distinct and varied library of SEGA JRPGs is one well-worth exploring. For those looking to dive into the classics, we've got a selection of some of the best retro SEGA JRPGs for you to enjoy.

Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium

Phantasy Star IV

SEGA's first big RPG franchise was Phantasy Star. The first game was among the earliest JRPGs to get released outside of Japan and is one of the Master System's best games. Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium, meanwhile, closed out the franchise's SEGA Genesis era with style. The unusual sci-fi setting, cool manga-style cut-scenes, and fast-paced battle system come together to form one of the best retro SEGA JRPGs a person could ask for.

Defenders of Oasis

Defenders of Oasis

For a handheld console of its era, the Game Gear had quite a few strong RPGs released on it. Several of them saw releases in the West, and it's Defenders of Oasis that carried the traditional JRPG banner among that bunch. Another JRPG that opted to pass on a typical fantasy setting, Defenders of Oasis instead is based on the classic Arabian Nights setting. A heroic prince must save his people from an evil force, all with the help of a mighty Jinn. A truly spell-binding adventure, and there isn't much else out there like it.

Shining Force III

Shining Force III

The Shining Force games have always had one foot in the tactical turn-based RPG genre and the other in the tradition JRPG framework. This SEGA Saturn release is actually three games, but only one of them saw official release outside of Japan. The idea was to show the events of the story from multiple perspectives. Each scenario can be played as its own game, but when you combine them you get something genuinely epic. Easily one of the best retro SEGA JRPGs, and one that needs a rerelease badly.

Panzer Dragoon Saga

Panzer Dragoon Saga

Shifting the SEGA Saturn's most famous rail shooter into a JRPG was a gutsy move, but it's one that paid off for Panzer Dragoon Saga. Panzer Dragoon's setting always felt like it extended beyond the borders of those shooters, and Saga allowed players to fully explore it. You'll travel the world on foot and on the back of your dragon. The battle system blends turn-based strategy and action in a very unique way. One more outstanding SEGA Saturn RPG that desperately needs to find its way back to the market again.

Shining in the Darkness

Shining in the Darkness

This is the game that kicked off the Shining series. Shining in the Darkness is an excellent dungeon crawling JRPG with challenging turn-based combat. You'll want to bring some graph paper with you, as its mazes can be difficult to navigate without a map. Whether you make your own maps or borrow them, it's worth the extra effort. Learning the dungeon layouts while slowly increasing the capabilities of your party proves to be a compelling concoction. The later Saturn sequel is also worth checking out, if you can.

Promotional image of the back and front of the Secretlab goku chair

In celebration of 40 years of Dragon Ball, Secretlab will release a brained new chair themed after Goku himself. The Secretlab Titan Evo will be getting a Dragon Ball Z Goku version.

This new chair is patterned after Goku's classic orange and blue gi, emblazoned with the kanji for "Kame" on the front of the chair, and "Kai Oh" on the back, showing the emblems of Goku's two great teachers: Master Roshi and King Kai. In addition, the orange and blue patterns of the chair are done in a speckle pattern, calling back to Goku's iconic outfit. There are also some other neat details, like the seven Dragon Balls on the back and front of the chair.

You can take a look at the gaming chair below.

The chair is currently retailing at $644 and comes in a Small size, for people under 5' 6", a Regular size, for between 5' 7" and 6' 2", and the Extra Large size, for people between 5' 11" and 6' 9". The Small and Regular retail for the same price, but the Extra Large will retail at $694.

This is just one of the many things in the pipeline to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Dragon Ball. The new series, Dragon Ball Daima will be premiering on the anniversary. In addition, fans commemorated the series by voting on which of Goku's famous fights they thought were the coolest in the entire 40-year run of Dragon Ball.
