PCGamesN Tuesday, October 22, 2024 7:28 PM Diablo 4 seems like a dark enough game to get away with not having a Halloween event. That's not stopping Blizzard from jumping on the spooky season bandwagon, though, as it's just announced Diablo 4 Meat or Treat - a questionably-named event that'll add some new modifiers to your next dungeon run and will also bestow you with some freebies. PCGamesN Tuesday, October 22, 2024 6:14 PM For a long time, I considered Dead Island 2 to be something of a guilty pleasure. It almost felt a bit embarrassing - or dare I say it, a bit 'basic' - to get all misty-eyed about a mere, semi-open-world zombie slayer. But overtime, it's only gotten better and my love has only grown stronger, and now that Dead Island 2 Patch 6 is out in the wild, I'd say it's one of the most complete and enjoyable co-op action games around. Season 2 for The Apothecary Diaries will start airing from January 10, 2025. It'll consist of two cours that air back to back. A streaming service hasn't been confirmed for it yet, but the first season aired on Crunchyroll.
The official X (formerly known as Twitter) account for the show posted a new key visual of it as well. It depicts Maomao and Jinshi standing in a building while an ethereal-looking night sky is behind them. At the side of the poster, there is a tagline that loosely translates to, "What awaits them is—" with no answer.
The first season ran from October 2023 to March 2024. In terms of where the anime stops, it stops at around Chapter 40 of the manga and the end of Volume 2 of the original light novel. As of late September 2024, there are 14 volumes of the light novel out in Japan. It's unknown if there will be a change in pacing, or if this will simply be a long-running show. J-Novel Club has licensed the digital version of the light novel whereas Square Enix licensed the physical prints. As for the manga, Square Enix licensed it and despite the past tax issues with the illustrator, it's still going.
The Apothecary Diaries takes place in Imperial China and it focuses on Maomao, who was kidnapped and sold to the Imperial Palace. Thanks to her experience as an apothecary worker in the red-light district, she was able to figure out what was behind a mysterious illness befalling the emperor's children and concubines. Despite her wishes to stay anonymous, Jinshi, a eunuch, takes notice of her and loops her into solving more mysteries for the court.
The Apothecary Diaries season 2 will start airing on January 10, 2025. You can watch the show (as well as the second season) via Crunchyroll.

Terry Bogard will appear in Street Fighter 6 Type Arcade. He'll be part of the October 24, 2024 update. [Thanks, PR Times!]
Capcom added Terry Bogard to Street Fighter 6 on September 24, 2024. He's a DLC character and launched as part of the Year 2 roadmap, with fellow SNK character Mai Shiranui appearing in Winter 2025. Terry is the main protagonist of the Fatal Fury series. As befitting of that mantle, he has a rounded fighting style that is simple, meaning he's easy for beginners to handle. However, in the hands of a skilled player, he can be a force to reckon with.
Street Fighter 6 Type Arcade launched in December 2023, about half a year after the home console versions debuted in June 2023. When the arcade version went live, it used the November 15, 2023 update from the home versions. It's likely due to this slight delay between versions that Terry is appearing at the end of October 2024 for those who play in arcades, even though Capcom added him to the main version of the game at the end of September 2024.
Aside from Terry, Taito will add the Pao Pao Cafe No. 6 stage. There will also be some adjustments to characters for balance reasons. Basically, whatever changes that went live as part of the Version 1.07 update will appear in the arcade version as well.
Street Fighter 6 is readily available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC. The arcade version is only in Japan.

Naoya Shimokawa, on his X (formerly known as Twitter) account, stated that next week, Aquaplus will finish a new story that it'd been working on for the past three years. While the game won't have an official release date or anything until far in the future, he's happy that Aquaplus finished it before the 30th anniversary and will be able to show a little bit of it during the event.
For those who don't know, Naoya Shimokawa is the president and representative director of Aquaplus. Aside from that title, he is also a music composer. He's worked on the music arrangement for the To Heart TV show. As well, he worked on the theme songs and music for shows like White Album 2 and Utawarerumono: The False Faces. Aquaplus, on the other hand, specializes in publishing and distributing visual novels (including adult ones). Some of the games it published include Monochrome Mobius: Rights and Wrongs Forgotten, and Utawarerumono: ZAN 2.
There's not a lot of information about the new game Aquaplus is working on. Most of the replies to his Tweet are positive though, with fans saying they're excited and that they'll always support Shimokawa and Aquaplus. Some possibilities include a completely new title, or a new entry in either the To Heart or Utawarerumono series. In any case, we'll know more about it next month.
More information on the new Aquaplus game will likely come out during the 30th anniversary event. It'll run from November 9 to 10, 2024 at the Yokohama Buntai in Japan.

Sega has sued BOI (Bank of Innovation) for patent infringement in Memento Mori. According to the documentation, Memento Mori infringes on five patents that Sega filed when it made Cryptract, which is now defunct. [Thanks, Game Watch!]
Sega is pursuing injunction against Memento Mori and is asking for 1 billion JPY in damages. That doesn't include the delinquency charge that it wants to add. The lawsuit includes the numbers for the patents that BOI is supposedly infringing upon. They all relate to the internal coding for gacha. For example, 5930111 is a code or formula that lets people fuse rare cards easier.
As BOI received the paperwork on October 21, 2024, it might be a while before we see any updates to this situation. Nintendo filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair for patent infringement due to similarities between Pokemon and Palworld. News of that lawsuit came out in mid-September 2024 and there have been no public updates even as we approach the end of October 2024.
BOI plans to fight against these allegations, as it does not believe it's infringing on any intellectual rights from Sega. It acknowledges that this will cause significant worry among the players and people involved with the game. It also states that it plans to continue Memento Mori's service no matter what the outcome of the lawsuit is.
Memento Mori is an AFK RPG (an idle game) that follows witches, who'd been stigmatized by society, being the only hope the world has against calamity. As an idle game, there's very minimal gameplay. Most of the selling point seems to be the visuals and the music.
Memento Mori is available on Android, iOS, and Windows PC.

During the final episode of the "Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games" YouTube channel, the game director revealed that he's working on a new game. Sakurai couldn't offer any details about the project yet. However, he did also mention he spent 90 million yen making this video series for YouTube.
Masahiro Sakurai said that, if him and the team behind it are able to get the new game made, it will be announced at some point in the future. He said that he received the request to make a new proposal at the same time he was finishing up work on the Super Smash Bros Ultimate DLC. Specifically, it came up right before Kazuya from Tekken came out in June 2021 and at the same time Sora from Kingdom Hearts was in development.
The "Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games" YouTube channel launched in August 24, 2022, and it ended with the recent finale special video on October 22, 2024. While the main episodes for the channel were filmed in advance 2 years ago, the final video was filmed recently. Sakurai also revealed that the content for the channel had been planned from the start.
The decision to prepare and film the channel in advance was due to the incompatibilities of creating the aforementioned new game at the same time he produced content for the YouTube channel full-time. Sakurai also offered some insight into the production costs for the channel, revealing that it costed 90 million yen total, or approximately $630,000 at the time of producing the finale special video.
Most of the costs went into editing from company HIKE, with a large portion going to the English translation made by 8-4, Ltd, and a small portion going into other costs, such as licensing video or crossover episodes.
