Big new Cities Skylines 2 update makes roads better and worse at the same time

I'm almost afraid to know how many hours I've spent trying to get my road and traffic network absolutely right in Cities Skylines 2. Yes, housing, commerce, and healthcare are important, too, but most of my attention is on highways and interchanges. And still - still - my beloved Cims find ways of sabotaging my perfect designs. Colossal Order and Paradox are working hard to fix the city building sequel - with Civilization 7 on the way, the urban strategy game needs to be on top form. Fortunately, the gigantic new Cities Skylines 2 update repairs a lot of bugs, overhauls tourism, and makes adjustments to how homelessness is represented. It also improves the road system, while making it more challenging at the same time.

The Day Before dev cancels new Kickstarter, immediately announces another game

The Day Before developer Fntastic has canceled the Kickstarter for its new game, and simultaneously revealed that another project is in the works. Months after going silent and completely shutting down The Day Before, Fntastic returned with a game called Escape Factory, but it didn't meet the studio's Kickstarter funding goal. That's why the team has decided to "temporarily suspend" development, and reveal a new game at the same time.

     The 15 best action-adventure games 2024

What are the best action-adventure games on PC? These games have been capturing the thrill of an expedition ever since Indiana Jones swung across a chasm with his trusty whip to retrieve an idol from a booby-trapped tomb. The PC boasts some true classics of the genre, from classic tomb raiding to games with enough exploration to fill an entire sandbox - not the one in your backyard.

This list has some of the best PC games ever made, action-adventure or otherwise, including several titles that changed the gaming industry. The original Uncharted trilogy isn't here, as emulation or PlayStation Now doesn't count, but we'd happily change our minds if it ever came to PC. Here's the definitive list of the best action-adventure games, not to be confused with the best action games, which we also have a handy list for.

     Best computer speakers 2024

The best computer speakers can fill your gaming space with great audio. Knowing your budget, what features to prioritize, what music and sound profile you like - big bass or an accurate, flat sound - and what volume you want are all crucial ways to narrow down the choices.

After testing, we've recommended the Razer Nommo V2 Pro as the best PC speaker set for gaming, while the Edifier R1280DB are our top all-round choice for music and general listening. If you're on a really tight budget, meanwhile, check out the Creative Pebble V3, as they cost less than $35.

Speakers aren't strictly necessary for every gaming PC setup, as the best gaming headsets give you more of an edge in FPS games and often provide more immersion than speakers. However, while the best wireless gaming headsets can give you more freedom, there's nothing like filling your office or gaming cave with high-fidelity audio. Discover the best computer speakers and crank up the volume.

"Move over Hollow Knight," declared Katharine (RPS in peace) in our Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown review, summarising this freshly-honed hunk of POP art as "a deep and challenging Metroid-like with some of the best platforming this side of Moon's Ori games." Sadly, for all the plaudits, the game doesn't seem to have earned sufficient megabucks to justify keeping its development team together. Earlier this week, French journalist Gautoz reported that Ubisoft had disbanded The Lost Crown's core dev team after turning down proposals for a sequel and further expansions. Speaking to RPS this morning, Ubisoft have confirmed that "most" of the Lost Crown's dev team have moved onto other projects, while noting that there have been no layoffs as a result.

I feel this one largely speaks for itself, honestly. I could theorise on the fictional conceit of bringing packaged creatures to life using a microwave and also, sometimes, a blender, but to do so would be to stare into a gift horse's abyssal oat hole so intently that…

…I was going to finish that with something about its molars staring back, but I had to quickly Google "do horses have molars?" only to misspell it. "Yes, horses can have a strong sense of right and wrong, and what is fair," went the AI overview. "Some say that horses can teach people to live in the present and to be authentic."

Thanks for that.

When I was little, I really liked what I saw of Shin chan, even if it was just largely flashes of his bare arse on Japanese TV. He seemed mischievous, a bit of a menace, and part of a fun family dynamic. Flash forward to now and I can only describe the lad as… jarring. At least, I think he's an odd flag-bearer for a series of games where you live out a nostalgic, Japanese summer in the countryside.

And I think it's doubly weird that Shin chan: Shiro And The Coal Town opts for a collectathon approach, that doesn't necessarily make the act of living out a Cicada Summer all that mesmerising. But, and this is a big but: I can't stop thinking about it. Of all the games of 2024, Coal Town may have left the biggest impression on me. In a way, I hope it does for you, too.

apothecary diaries season 2

Season 2 for The Apothecary Diaries will start airing from January 10, 2025. It'll consist of two cours that air back to back. A streaming service hasn't been confirmed for it yet, but the first season aired on Crunchyroll.

The official X (formerly known as Twitter) account for the show posted a new key visual of it as well. It depicts Maomao and Jinshi standing in a building while an ethereal-looking night sky is behind them. At the side of the poster, there is a tagline that loosely translates to, "What awaits them is—" with no answer.

The first season ran from October 2023 to March 2024. In terms of where the anime stops, it stops at around Chapter 40 of the manga and the end of Volume 2 of the original light novel. As of late September 2024, there are 14 volumes of the light novel out in Japan. It's unknown if there will be a change in pacing, or if this will simply be a long-running show. J-Novel Club has licensed the digital version of the light novel whereas Square Enix licensed the physical prints. As for the manga, Square Enix licensed it and despite the past tax issues with the illustrator, it's still going.

The Apothecary Diaries takes place in Imperial China and it focuses on Maomao, who was kidnapped and sold to the Imperial Palace. Thanks to her experience as an apothecary worker in the red-light district, she was able to figure out what was behind a mysterious illness befalling the emperor's children and concubines. Despite her wishes to stay anonymous, Jinshi, a eunuch, takes notice of her and loops her into solving more mysteries for the court.

The Apothecary Diaries season 2 will start airing on January 10, 2025. You can watch the show (as well as the second season) via Crunchyroll.
