     This new AMD Ryzen CPU seemingly beats the Nvidia RTX 4060 with no graphics card

A new AMD Ryzen CPU with a mightily powerful integrated Radeon GPU appears to have just beaten the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 in a benchmark leak. The new CPU is reportedly a part of the new AMD Strix Halo CPU range, and comes with a new Radeon 8060S GPU that has some serious power at its disposal.

There have been rumors that AMD Strix Halo CPUs were set to feature monstrously powerful integrated graphics for the future best gaming laptop designs for a while now, and this new rumored AMD CPU benchmark appears to back that up.

For a limited time, JR Kyushu is collaborating with Nintendo on a Pikmin lunch box and pudding. You can purchase them at two lunch box stands in Hakata Station until June 30, 2025. [Thanks, Game Watch!]

The JR Kyushu Pikmin lunch box costs 1600 JPY ($10.20). When you open it, there aren't any sides or food cut in the shape of Pikmin. However, it uses a lot of colorful vegetables that can remind you of the little things. The rice portion has a spicy mentaiko, as well as beef sukiyaki. Sides include a bit of salmon and a vegetable omelette.

For dessert, you can get a strawberry pudding that also comes in a Pikmin package. The juice and jam that went into this pudding had been extracted from amaou strawberries. Amaou strawberries are a specialty of Fukuoka. You can get the pudding for 1296 JPY ($8.25), and each package (which features Pikmin carrying strawberries around) contains four.

This is all part of the Pikmin and JR Kyushu campaign from Yamaya Communications. The campaign can translates to "Explore the Enchanted Planet of Kyushu," and it'll run from December 7, 2024 to June 30, 2025. During this time, you'll be able to buy exclusive goods from six different stations on the JR Kyushu line. Familiar creatures from the Pikmin series will also appear on JR Kyushu trains and buses until mid-2025.

The Pikmin lunch box and pudding at JR Kyushu are available until June 30, 2025, and you can get them in Hakata. The latest entry in the Pikmin series, Pikmin 4, is available on the Nintendo Switch.

Genshin Impact Mouse

Logitech will release a series of Genshin Impact mouse models featuring Heizo, Sayu, and Toma in January 2025. Each mouse will cost 5,720 yen or around $36. The mice are part of the Logitech G304 LIGHTSPEED series. [Thanks, Game Watch!]

These mice are only available to purchase at select stores, which does include the Logitech Official Online Store. This means that the Heizo, Sayu, and Thoma mouse models can be purchased online. This marks the second Genshin Impact and Logitech collaboration, with the first featuring Kamisato Ayaka.

You can take a look at the three Genshin Impact mouse models below:

Additionally, if consumers purchase any one of the three mice and the Kamisato Ayaka model, they will receive a special Ayaka themed notebook, keychain, and acrylic stand. However, the Ayaka mouse model is from the Logitech G309 series.

That said, if you choose to purchase any one of these new mice, you will receive a special themed box that features the same character on whatever mouse you've decided to purchase. The mice will also come with a two year warranty.

Genshin Impact is available entirely for free on PlayStation 5, PC, and mobile devices. The Genshin Impact Sayu, Toma, and Heizo mouse models will be available to purchase on January 23, 2025.

Tickets for the Great Capcom Exhibition in Osaka are now available for purchase in Japan. For reference, the exhibition will take place at the Nakanoshima Museum of Art in Osaka from March 20 to June 22, 2025.

Tickets cost 3000 JPY ($19.10) for regular adults. Elementary and middle school students can purchase a ticket for 1000 JPY ($6.35). Meanwhile, high school and university students will need to pay 2500 JPY ($15.90).

The Great Capcom Exhibition highlights Capcom's creativity, as well as the innovation that brought ideas and concepts to life since the company's humble beginnings in 1983. You'll be able to check out concept art, posters, and more from the various franchises that Capcom released over the years. There will also be practical exhibitions, such as a mirror that'll let you experience what it's like to be a motion capture actor. Some of the franchises we can see in the promotional images include the Resident Evil series, the Ace Attorney series, the Street Fighter series, and the Monster Hunter series.

The Great Capcom Exhibition will appear in Japan from March 20 to June 22, 2025. You can purchase your tickets now if you plan to go to Japan during tha time.

When I look back at 2024, I see a ton of games that appealed directly to me. From so many JRPGs, like Metaphor: ReFantazio, to remakes like FFVII Rebirth and Persona 3 Reload, I had a lot to look forward to, then enjoy. But in the end, one of the best games of 2024 for me, happens to be the last-minute release Infinity Nikki.

There's no denying 2024 is one of the most incredible years in gaming recently. Especially for people interested in Japanese titles. This year was all about JRPGs and games in existing franchises. However, in some ways it also ended up being a disappointing one until Infinity Nikki came along. Even with so many excellent titles that I enjoyed, almost every one also disappointed me in small or surprising ways.

I could go through and name all of the major flaws that held back nearly every single one of my favorite titles. FFVII Rebirth, for instance, is a near masterpiece in every category… except when it comes to its ending. That moment is a small part of the overall experience, but its confusing and awkward execution did nothing but leave such a sour taste in my mouth. The same goes for the entire second half of Metaphor: ReFantazio. Despite its unmatched gameplay and style, it faltered.

Then there is Trails through Daybreak, which feels a bit too short. It is great, but I feel it is the weakest of the first entries in the four sub-series of that franchise thus far. FFXIV Dawntrail is the continuation of an MMORPG that should've ended with Endwalker. It went beyond my expectations, but still ultimately felt unnecessary. The list goes on and on.

Only one game stands tall from start to finish as my most impeccable experience this year, and that is surprisingly Infinity Nikki. This is the most pure gaming fun I've had with an experience outside of a Nintendo game like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The open-world is a true joy to explore. There are so many puzzles, minigames, and even light combat scenarios around every corner. There is something to see and do every few feet in Miraland.

Then there is the dress-up aspect, which is the best you'll find in any game period. The level of gorgeous detail in each outfit, from the smallest accessories to the most extravagant gowns, is on a level no game will come close to reaching in the future. It unlocked this side of me I never knew existed that loves cosmetics and making my character look perfect. And the most hilarious part is I am not the general target audience for this experience, either.

Beyond all that, there is the story, which is perhaps the most shocking part of Infinity Nikki. The writing here is far and away better than most games I've played this year. The plot goes in some dark and twisted directions I didn't expect, with some great twists popping up along the way. There are also some memorable characters like Raggy and Giovanni, that will go up there with some of my all-time favorite gaming characters like Goro Akechi from Persona 5. Sure, Infold does rush the story a bit too much near the end of the portion available in 2024, but even this flaw feels minuscule compared to everything else I played this year.

Overall, Infinity Nikki is the best game I have played from start to finish in 2024, despite being free-to-play. The monetization is great, too, allowing you to play the entire base story without paying a dime if you don't want to. It is a true shame it came out so late in the year, so you won't likely see it in the overall Siliconera awards or the like. From the dress-up aspects to the remarkably designed open-world to minigames to the unforgettable characters, every single part is masterfully crafted. Even if it doesn't seem like your cup of tea, I recommend everyone to check out my Game of the Year 2024.

One Piece Proplica Roronoa Zoro Swords Arrive in July

Bandai Namco announced that the One Piece Roronoa Zoro Proplica swords will appear outside of Japan in July 2025. It also shared screenshots of the three swords, confirming that someone would actually be able to hold Wado Ichimonji in their mouth just like the character does in the manga and anime.

The set of Roronoa Zoro One Piece Proplica set of swords includes Enma, Saindai Kitetsu, and Wado Ichimonji. The close-up photo of a model holding Wado Ichimonji in his mouth shows how the mouthguard for it works. The hilt has a part someone can bite down on to recreate the character's pose in which he holds Enma and Saindai Kitetsu in his hands and the third in his mouth. (As a reminder, Wado Ichimonji is Shimotsuki Kuina's sword that was passed down to Zoro.) 

That sword isn't the only one in the set with a special feature. The reveal noted that Enma will be able to play audio lines and sound effects. One of the initial photos showed the button on its hilt that can be pressed to make one of them play.

Here is the full set of four initial photos showing off the upcoming replicas. 

We'll get to see Zoro wield those in the new year. At Jump Festa 2025, we learned that the Egghead arc of the anime would resume next year. That will also feature a new Franky voice actor when it returns.

Bandai Namco will release the One Piece Roronoa Zoro Proplica swords in July 2025. The first season of the One Piece live-action adaptation is on Netflix now, with season 2 on the way. The anime is on both Netflix and Crunchyroll. Viz Media handles the manga outside of Japan.

Seiko Hello Kitty 50th Anniversary Watch Limited to 2024 Units

Sanrio and Seiko announced a new limited edition Hello Kitty 50th Anniversary watch. It costs 54,780 yen (or approximately $348.24,) with pre-orders now open from the IEI online store, and its expected release date set for late May 2025.

The watch dial offers a pastel pink background in a plaid style inspired by London, Hello Kitty's "birthplace." Additionally, each hour marker except for the 12, 3, 6, and 9 marks are decorated with small crystals. Hello Kitty herself is sitting over the 6 o'clock mark with the original design she first debuted in all the way back in 1974.

To celebrate the year of its 50th anniversary coming to an end, this new Hello Kitty watch edition will only have 2,024 units on sale. A serial number appears on the back alongside a special anniversary logo. Furthermore, the watch is packaged in a box decorated with various different designs for Hello Kitty throughout the years in the style of stickers.

The new Seiko Hello Kitty 50th Anniversary watch costs 54,780 yen (~$348.24.) It is expected to come out in late May 2025 and pre-orders are now open.

Dragon Ball Super Ultra-Long Shenron Plush Is Over 2 Feet Long

Bandai Namco announced its Banpresto line will soon include a Dragon Ball Super ultra-long Shenron plush. It will be 80cm long, which is over two and a half feet. It will show up in crane games in Japan starting on December 25, 2024, and a post on the official site in English notes it is "coming soon."

The official listing in Japan showed two photos of the Dragon Ball Super plush Shenron. Each one shows it from a single perspective and side. The main body is one long piece, with legs sown onto the sides. There are also decorative accents such as the fringe around his neck, his whiskers, and the spikes along his spine. There are no other items alongside it to offer context for the size of the plush.

While we'll see this plush in Japan very soon, it will be a while until we see more of the Dragon Ball Super manga. The series' hiatus ended up being extended again. It is now expected to return in March 2025. The last chapter released was 103, and that debuted in March 2024. 

However, in the meantime there will be a special release of the original 42 volumes of Dragon Ball. A Dragon Ball Super Gallery was announced at Jump Festa 2025. It will feature alternate covers drawn by other famous mangaka. 

The Dragon Ball Super ultra-long Shenron plush will appear in Japanese crane games starting on December 25, 2024, and we may see it worldwide. Viz handles the manga releases outside of Japan, while the anime adaptation is streaming on Crunchyroll.

Persona 3 Koromaru and Persona 5 Morgana Merchandise Is at Avail

Starting on January 1, 2025, Avail will start selling grab bags including apparel and merchandise featuring Koromaru from Persona 3 Reload and Morgana from Persona 5 Royal. The grab bags cost 3,300 yen (or about $20.99) each, and these will only be available at Avail and Shimamura retail stores throughout Japan.

The Koromaru and Morgana Avail apparel and men's items are only available in M, L, and 3XL sizes. Each grab bag is limited to one per customer, and they include sweaters, short sleeved T-shirts, hand towels, headbands, socks, and totebags. The characters are depicted in a chibi style. Only their heads appear in the items, with the exception of the hand towels. Those will feature promotional art of the two characters.

Avail previously released the Persona 5 Royal Morgana headband as part of a larger collection of clothing and apparel which appeared on January 20, 2024 in Japan, and later returned with new items on August 2024.

The Persona 3 Reload and Persona 5 Royal Koromaru and Mona Avail grab bags cost 3,300 yen (~$20.99) and they will be available at physical Avail and Shimamura retail stores in Japan on January 1, 2025. Persona 3 Reload is on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC. Persona 5 Royal is available on the Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. The anime is on Crunchyroll and soon Hulu.

Xuan Yuan Sword Gate of Firmament

The Xuan-Yuan Sword series has historically been an ambitious one that aims to retell stories from Chinese history and mythology. The standalone game Xuan-Yuan: The Gate of Firmament recently appeared on the PS5 via a reworked version, allowing a whole new audience to experience this sprawling RPG. However, it does feel like this is a story that wasn't worth retelling.

Sikong Yu is a young man living in a small village separated from the Shang dynasty's rule. Everyone's life is precarious, moving from place to place, although Yu does his best to keep the village protected with an array of traps. However, his peaceful life within the village falls apart when a nearby bandit tribe attempts to raid his people, and in the process he meets a woman named Muyue. This mysterious lady initially refuses to speak and shows magical aptitude. She soon shared that she is desperately trying to return to a home she can barely remember. Yu ventures out with her to help her find her way, meeting a cast of characters who aid them in their quest.

Straight off the bat, Xuan-Yuan: The Gate of Firmament is a game doesn't do itself many favors. While I could initially accept the early MMO level of FMV that kickstarts the story, the presentation plummets in quality as soon as we're in-engine. Character models clearly show an attempt towards photorealism, but their doll-like standing poses and awkward animations throw the game straight down the uncanny valley.

The insult "it looks like a PS2 game" is often thrown around carelessly in some circles, which I feel is an insult in itself to the PS2 games that still look excellent to this day. However with Xuan-Yuan: The Gate of Firmament, I feel that's the best description, as it features the kind of low-poly models found in some of the worst games on the system. But it goes beyond that. The animation jank, stiff camera movement and even the excessive use of dissolve wipes in cutscenes all feel like they're ripped straight out of the 2000s. However, while I feel many games of that era did the best they could with the tech they had available to them, this doesn't even manage that much when better tech is available.

One of the more egregious examples was a scene where Yu receives a gift from his mother before heading out. While characters handing items to one another is a persistent problem for animators, even in blockbuster AAA games today, there is a lot of creative camera work that covers it. Not so much here. The present is visibly glued awkwardly to Yu's mother's arm before she lifts it to hand it over. It then pops out of existence as Yu reaches out, in full view of the camera. This isn't a budget issue. This is just sloppy.

However, I'm not someone who will let visual presentation completely kill my interest in a game. Sometimes games are made on low budgets and have to make do with what they have. I've played plenty of games that have had to make those compromises and sometimes that can lead to great experiences. I've enjoyed plenty of games with awkward presentation simply because they've thrown themselves heavily into the story or gameplay. Sadly, that isn't the case with Xuan-Yuan: The Gate of Firmament, as neither of those elements managed to win me over either.

Let's start with the story, which I'm not sure is poorly written or poorly translated, but either way, it had some of the worst dialogue I've ever encountered in a game. This is a game that loves to repeat itself. As an example of this, part of the early game sees Yu venturing into the woods to check his traps while his female friend from the village follows him. Yu feels it's too dangerous for her and tells her to go back to the village. At the next trap, she reappears, saying she didn't feel like going back. He tells her it's too dangerous and she should go back to the village. This happened several times in one area, with no variation each time.

The repetitiveness even cropped up within single scenes. The initial meeting with party member Feng Yu sees Sikong explain that he's escorting Muyue, to which Feng replies "You're escorting her? Oh, I see you're escorting her." It's a level of dialogue I expect from the original Resident Evil, and at least there it was entertainingly silly and quotable. Here it's just tedious.

The voice acting also emphasizes this tedium, as none of the voice performances seemed to display a hint of emotion or personality. It was highlighted for me when Feng was referred to as "cheeky" and a huge contrast to Muyue's cold personality. And yet, no one seems to have informed his voice actor, whose performance was just as flat as hers.

I'd love to say the gameplay improved this drastically, but I struggled to enjoy Xuan-Yuan: The Gate of Firmament on that front too. A lot of the game's exploration takes place in bland, featureless environments that feel like they were assembled out of the most generic assets they could find.

Combat is not much better. It's a real-time system, where your abilities are assigned to different face buttons on the controller. After using one, there is a short cooldown before you can use something else. It's fairly straightforward and on first glance, it seems like this might be the game's saving grace. Unfortunately, it's missing a lot of features that would make this a fun system to work with.

For a start, your defensive options are minimal. There is a battle formation you can employ to generally increase your defense, but for a real-time system, I was shocked at how little I could do to reduce damage as a reaction. Battles take place in small arenas and while your characters will move about them automatically, there doesn't appear to be any way to control their movement directly. Being able to position yourself to avoid certain attacks would have made battles feel more tactical instead of relying on the random chance of your character moving themselves out of danger on a whim.

This also extends to a lack of block or dodge mechanics. Plenty of other real-time RPG systems have these basic features, but The Gate of Firmament simply does not. It just adds to the bizarre nature of the system, which is built like a turn-based system but plays in real-time. It also doesn't help that while you can switch your active party member, the others will act freely, often wasting items and resources, with no option to direct them to act a certain way until you take control.

Ultimately, Xuan Yuan Sword: The Gate of Firmament is a joyless experience. I will usually try and find something to like about games I play, but it was difficult with this. The narrative is poorly written and performed, it's visually messy and combat mechanics feel half-finished. There really isn't much left after that. I wanted to love Xuan-Yuan Sword: The Gate of Firmament, and the potential for greatness is there, but sadly its execution never lives up to its ambitions.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer on PC Steam - livery from gameplay footage

Genki shared new gameplay footage for its upcoming PC release of Tokyo Xtreme Racer. It will release the highway racing game worldwide on Steam in 2025.

The main gameplay mode will involve one-on-one duels against other street racers. The ultimate objective is to deplete the opponent's spirit points by having them hit an obstacle or outrunning them for at least 25 meters. Players will also be able to customize their cars with decals, aftermarket parts, and underglow lights.

Genki has been gradually revealing the roster of cars that will appear in the new Tokyo Xtreme Racer. The first six cars it revealed on YouTube were the Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec II, Toyota Supra RZ, Mazda RX-7 Type RZ, Toyota GR86 RZ, Toyota Levin GT-APEX, and Subaru Impreza WRX STI Spec C. The new gameplay footage further confirmed appearances of the Mazda3 Fastback 20S Retro Sport, Suzuki Swift Sport, and Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT-APEX 3 Door—the latter of which was popularized by Takumi Fujiwara in Initial D.

This game will mark a return for the Shutoko Battle highway racing game series that appeared first on the Super Famicom (SNES) in 1994 but went dormant after Genki made Shutoko Battle X for Japan and Import Tuner Challenge for the West on Xbox 360 in 2006 (or 2007 if you count the Wangan Midnight games Genki released for the PS3 and PSP in Japan). The new game is so far sharing both the same Japanese and English titles as the 1999 release on the Sega Dreamcast.

The new Tokyo Xtreme Racer will be available worldwide on PC via Steam in 2025.

Life-Size Naruto Figure of Kakashi Sits at a Kotatsu

At Jump Festa 2025, MegaHouse displayed a life-size figure of Kakashi Hatake from Naruto Shippuden. The 1:1 statue's design was based on the GEM Series Palm-size version of the character set to debut in 2025. 

This version of Kakashi was designated as a photo spot. He was posed at a kotatsu, and MegaHouse posed other figures from the series on top of the table. For example, in the one social media promotional image, a Look Up Naruto figure appeared there. In the actual photo spot image, the company had cups, oranges, and Nyaruto cats based on Naruto and Kakashi there.

While the 1:1, life-size Kakashi Hatake figure was on display, the palm-size version of the Naruto Shippuden is available to purchase and will launch worldwide. It will debut in Japan in late February 2025 for 7,920円 (~$50). AmiAmi, which ships worldwide, has a listing up for it for 6,730円 (~$43). 

The GEM Series Palm-size Kakashi Hatake Naruto Shippuden figure will ship in February 2025, and it will be available worldwide. The Naruto and Boruto anime series are streaming on Crunchyroll, while Viz Media handles the manga series outside of Japan.

Capcom Survey About Its Games Mentions Pragmata

Capcom kicked off its 2024 Year-End Survey, which goes over its games and the sales it started up for the December holiday season. It runs until January 5, 2025 and is designed to take about 10-15 minutes to fill out. Those who finish it also get a wallpaper featuring characters from Monster Hunter Wilds, Dead Rising, Mega Man, and Ace Attorney Investigations. People can participate by visiting the official site. Most interestingly, Capcom mentions the upcoming game Pragmata in it.

As is typical for these types of surveys, quite a few of the questions have to do with demographic information or details about platforms on which we play our games. Once it specifically gets into Capcom games, it asks if people played staples in recent series. For example, Monster Hunter World, Monster Hunter Rise, Monster Hunter Stories, Dragon's Dogma 2, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy, Ace Attorney Investigations Collection, Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil Village, Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, Kunitsu-Gami, Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection, Street Fighter 6, Onimusha: Warlords, Okami HD, and Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective all come up. Once you select titles, the survey asks which platforms you played them on. It will also ask if someone played a title on Xbox Game Pass, when applicable. It also asks for five non-Capcom games someone played in 2024.

Once Capcom gets to its upcoming games, that's when Pragmata resurfaces. It shows up in a question asking about upcoming titles and folks' familiarity with them. Capcom Fighting Collection 2, Monster Hunter Wilds, the Okami sequel, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword come up in that section as well.

When it comes to the sale questions, the survey asks about storefronts and discounts. It asks where we buy our games, as well as why we purchase them on sale. Asking about awareness also comes up. 

Capcom isn't the only company that shared a survey about its games as 2024 is about to end. Square Enix did as well. While Capcom's is more about all of its titles and the sales it shared ahead of the holiday, Square Enix's was more focused. It only asked about Final Fantasy and some of its spin-offs. 

The Capcom 2024 Year-End Survey runs until January 5, 2025.
