Welcome to the Week in Review
Welcome
Lately, I’ve had trouble separating the dystopian workplace depicted in the Apple TV+ show Severance from how I sometimes like to imagine the mood at Apple Park. Do people check into the campus and then get transformed into smiling but slightly altered versions of themselves who believe Apple is always on the right track? I hope not, and that’s why I’m pressing for the company to make one strategic change that could get it back to its innovative and winning ways.

Even when you’re winning, it can feel like losing. That might be the case for Google, which unveiled its Pixel 9a mid-range handset and promptly had to delay the phone's release because of a mysterious component issue.

When new things aren’t working, it sometimes pays to return to the old or at least the nostalgic. That’s probably why we now have two new Pebble watches. Yes, you read that right: Pebble is back, and I could not be happier.

I do wonder if companies like Apple, Google, and even Pebble are turning to rich AI tools like Google Gemini Deep Research, which is now free for all, to map out winning product strategies. These tools take a lot longer than your baseline ChatGPT or standard Gemini Live to respond, but they can come back with fully fleshed-out research, and maybe help you make a better plan. I hope they do better than the AIs that tried to dress me this week.

Returning to Severance, we’ve been covering the hit show since the start. Season 2 just wrapped, and it looks like the strange task of collecting numbers on retro terminals is far from over for the employees of Lumon Industries, as Apple just greenlit the series for season 3. Let’s all step back into that elevator, shall we?

Have a great weekend!
