It’s been another big week for AI, with OpenAI taking another step towards artificial general intelligence with the launch of GPT-5. While it feels a little like Sam Altman and company overpromised (or overdramatized) the impact of this new model, and maybe underdelivered a little, it is unquestionably smarter than its predecessor, and perhaps a little less likely to lead you astray. We’ve been covering the launch from every angle, and we’ve even cooked up some long-overdue AI guidance for parents.
Speaking of AI, we’re anticipating some exciting AI developments with the expected launch of a new line of Google Pixel Phones – the Pixel 10 series – which is set for August 20 at the latest ‘Made by Google’ event. We think we know a fair bit about the upcoming phones thanks to the usual flurry of leaks – including one from Google itself – and Google has also officially teased the Pixel 10 Pro, so we’re not expecting too many surprises on the day itself.
Back on the desktop, the clock is ticking on Windows 10, and many are facing the prospect of a forced upgrade to Windows 11 (it’s not bad, but let’s hope your computer can support it). In any case, it’s probably time to let go of that decade-old platform and embrace the future of Windows computing – at least the one Microsoft is currently painting.
I know, it’s the weekend, and perhaps you’d like to stop leaning forward and instead sit back and enjoy the new season of Wednesday – I loved season 1, but I worry this new season won’t be as clever.
