Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, March 19, 2026 5:48 PM Well, you all did it, Cryo Archive has been unlocked in Marathon. Bungie detailed the new mode in a blog post earlier today, where it shared an important thing to keep in mind with the new map: it's only available to attempt on weekends. Aye, you'll need to forgo any social plans you have out in the real world to tackle this one. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, March 19, 2026 2:54 PM Is it fair to say Cities: Skylines 2's development has been incredibly messy? I'd say it's fair, after all, the game has completely shifted developers in the past few months, that doesn't sound like smooth sailing to me. In the nearly three years since it was released, the city builder still has plenty of issues to deal with, perhaps a symptom of a more industry wide problem. But in a recent interview, Mariina Hallikainen, CEO of the game's now former developer Colossal Order, has spoken about the specific difficulties the studio faced with the engine the game was built in, Unity. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, March 19, 2026 2:32 PM It's easy to look at a walking simulator like Firewatch and only see what's been stripped out. After all, it's a genre that got its start when developers took the shooting out of first-person shooters. However, look a little closer and you will see how much design can go into the simplest interactions. In the lookout cabin you call home in Firewatch there is a desk. On one side of that desk you will find a pine cone and on the opposite side you will find a picture frame. Hover your cursor over either item and press 'E' and you will pick up the item and hold it in your hand. It's when you press 'E' again to put the item back down things get interesting. The pine cone will roll off the desk, but the picture frame will return it to the spot you picked it up from. In that difference, you can see the world that Campo Santo made in Firewatch. |

Crunchyroll and Shueisha announced that the anime adaptation of the manga Black Torch will air on Sony's streaming service, and it currently has a July 2026 launch window. The 100studio project will be a simulcast series, and people with a subscription in any region except Asia will get access.
The series follows Jiro Azuma, a high schooler and ninja who ends up befriending and fusing with the Black Star of Doom mononoke Rago. Due to other spirits seeking out Rago's powers and the situation, the pair then join the Bureau of Espionage to hunt down hostile mononoke. As the series is a relatively short one that only spanned five volumes, it's unknown if the entire story will be told in a single season yet.
Here's the latest Black Torch anime trailer. While we do hear one of the theme songs, the footage mainly shows us what main characters Jiro Azuma, Rago, Ichika Kishimojin, and Reiji Kirihara.
100studio is a relatively new anime studio, so they might not be immediately familiar. Some of their two currently available shows are Quality Assurance in Another World and The Mononoke Lecture Logs of Chuzenji-sensei. The former also is part of Crunchyroll's library.
The Black Torch anime will stream on Crunchyroll in July 2026, and the manga is available via Viz Media.

Following the January 2026 debut of Kotobukiya's Unicorn Overlord Rosalinde figure, Good Smile Company and Phat confirmed they'll release one too. It will launch in February 2027 in Japan, followed by a Q3 2027 worldwide release. It will cost ¥26,800/$177.99. This follows a survey that said she was the most popular member of the cast in Japan.
This Rosalinde figure is a 1/6 scale static model of the dark elf Augur that is twin sister of Elheim's leader, Eltolinde. This means there are no extra face plates or posing options. She features a dynamic sort of pose that makes it look like she is using her Elemental Roar skill that involves faeries helping her to attack. She also looks like she's about to swing her lance. She stands at about 14 inches tall (370mm).
Here are a few of the first photos Good Smile Company shared:
Good Smile Company's only released a few different types of Unicorn Overlord merchandise so far. People could pick up a figma of Yahna or plush of Berengaria or Virginia. Kotobukiya's released far more, such as scale figures of Eltolinde, Melisandre, and Scarlett.
The Good Smile Company Unicorn Overlord Rosalinde figure will debut in February 2027 in Japan and Q3 2027 worldwide. Pre-orders close on May 13, 2026. The game can be found on the Switch, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X.

The new Vampire Survivors spin-off Vampire Crawlers release date is set. The game will come to the Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on April 21, 2026. However, there's no debut date for the Android and iOS mobile ports yet. It will cost $9.99/€9.99/£9.99, though Game Pass subscribers will be able to play it at launch. There's also a new trailer with a little gameplay footage that shows how it works.
At the moment, product pages aren't available for every platform yet. So far, you can only find them on the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, and Steam. Pre-orders aren't open, but you can add the game to wishlists. The PC demo is also still showing on Steam, following the Steam Next Fest launch of that.
Here's the Vampire Crawlers release date trailer. It also confirms there are no vampires.
Everything started with the original Vampire Survivors, which is available on the Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, PC, and mobile devices. It's gotten multiple updates and expansions, including ones that added co-op and vampires. In 2025, a Vampire Survivors VR spin-off appeared for Meta Quest headsets.

The game first showed up on the PS4 and PC. A new trailer also launched to show how different will look, there's a list of changes, and both Special and Collector's Editions are confirmed.
First, here's the official list of every change that Inin Games and Ys Net shared for the Shenmue 3 Enhanced updated release.
Here's the first trailer showing how it looks.
As for the physical copies, so far only Inin Games is showing product pages for it. However, that page did confirm the Switch 2 version isn't a game-key card. Compile Heart and Idea Factory officially revealed the newest mainline Hyperdimension Neptunia series game, and it will be called Neptunia Unlimited and involve CPU Goddesses based on current generation systems like the Switch and Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X. So far, it is only confirmed for Japan. It will debut there on August 27, 2026. However, while the Xbox console is referenced in-game, the game will be limited to the Switch, Switch 2, PS4, and PS5. Physical and digital copies are confirmed, though the PS4 version won't be sold on a disc.
The official site, press release, and trailer all brought up and showed the new CPU Goddesses based on the Switch and Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X joining Neptune (Purple Heart) on the new adventure. The world is ending, but Neptune's "retry" function keeps triggering in the hopes of preventing that and reaching the "true end." While the original Nintendo, PlayStation, and Xbox representatives Blanc (White Heart), Noire (Black Heart), and Vert (Green Heart) will be present, this time they'll be joined by new goddesses like the Switch 2-style Rouge (Red Heart), PS5-character Ciel (Blue Heart), and Xbox Series S and X reps Anna and Lot (Eclipse Heart). Both story and combat segments show up in the first trailer, highlighting how when their CPU forms are activated, they'll be flying around maps or floating in battle, and that some fights will entail heading into space and facing massive opponents.
Here's the first trailer for the game:
And here is the official character art for all the new and returning Neptunia series CPU console goddesses. So far, the CPU Candidates Nepgear (Purple Sister), Uni (Black Sister), and Rom and Ram (White Sister) haven't appeared, but the twins are mentioned in the Blanc character profile.
There are also some initial pieces of key art an CGs that highlight the Neptunia Unlimited CPU Goddesses representing the Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X consoles.
Neptunia Unlimited will come to the Switch, Switch 2, PS4, and PS5 in Japan on August 27, 2026.

Square Enix is gradually releasing Build Charm keychains based on Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster character sprites that will also be customizable. The pixel blocks on these keychains will be able to be removed and re-attached, although the owner will have to prepare their own tweezers separately.
The company has so far prepared two batches of these keychains. The first volume will be available on March 21, 2026, and the second will follow on July 3, 2026. Each volume will feature a total of six character sprites from the first six Final Fantasy entries, including Paladin Cecil from Final Fantasy IV and Terra Branford from Final Fantasy VI.
The keychains will be available individually at ¥1,650 (~$10.35) or in a set of 6 boxes at ¥9,900 (~$62.15). However, the items will be available at random, and the 6-box set still won't guarantee all unique characters to be included there either.
Square Enix has been sporadically releasing new merchandise based on the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster sprites. It previously released non-customizable charm keychains in 2025 and wappen badges based on the same sprites in 2024.
The first volume of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Build Charms will be available on March 21, 2026. The second volume will follow on July 3, 2026.

Hakababunko has announced that Urban Myth Dissolution Center is now available on mobile devices. It is also available in English, and it's priced the same as the existing console versions.
The reveal came as a surprise, as no company involved with the game had announced anything beforehand. We only knew about it when the trailer for it came out on March 18, 2026. You can watch the trailer for the smartphone version on places like the Hakababunko X (formerly Twitter) account:
The trailer and screenshots show that the game keeps a lot of the same UI and elements, albeit it's just on the phone instead of a console or PC. As the game is mostly point-and-click, the smartphone version should be quite easy to play as well.
Urban Myth Dissolution Center is a paranormal mystery adventure game in which you play as Azami Fukurai, the newest member of the Urban Myth Dissolution Center. She has a mysterious power that lets her see the past echoes of people, and she uses this to solve the various paranormal mysteries that she gets wrapped up in. Aside from investigating the crime scenes, there are also portions where she and her co-worker Jasmine have to collect information via social media. You can read our review of Urban Myth Dissolution Center here.
Urban Myth Dissolution Center is readily available on the PS5, Nintendo Switch, Windows PC via Steam, and now mobile devices (iOS and Android).

Marvelous has opened an anniversary website for Story of Seasons and Rune Factory, where you can vote for your favorites from the series in two popularity polls. The polls will be open until April 6, 2026.
A total of 560 characters are eligible to be voted for across both polls, and the top winners will appear in a new illustration. For Story of Seasons, there will be ten characters, and from Rune Factory, there will be five. The illustrators for each respective series will draw the anniversary artwork. You can vote once per day, so if you like multiple characters, you can put your vote towards them all. Conversely, you can just keep voting for your ultimate favorite.
Here are the two existing pieces of anniversary artwork for both series:
2026 marks the 30th anniversary of Story of Seasons (originally released in English as Harvest Moon) and the 20th anniversary of Rune Factory. Story of Seasons games typically involve the player taking an old farm and turning it into a successful one. You can also interact with the townsfolk, marry them, and have kids. Rune Factory originated as a spin-off series of Story of Seasons before developing its own identity. You can still farm in Rune Factory games, but they take place in a fantasy world and also involve dungeon crawling.
The Story of Seasons and Rune Factory character popularity poll will end on April 6, 2026.

Destiny 2 Warlocks, it's time to put on our Superblack and start another candlelight vigil, for we are losing an icon. Bungie is nerfing our obscene amount of damage with Contraverse Holds and Handheld Supernova—also called "John Chunk"—next week.
The tweak is coming alongside Guardian Games, an annual event that focuses on class-vs-class competition. The nerf, while admittedly warranted, comes just in time to prevent Warlocks from getting a landslide win this year.
Contraverse "chunking," as it's called, was still rather obscure by the time The Edge of Fate launched in mid 2025, but it became nearly ubiquitous as time drew on. Some in the community even gave it a rather catchy name, "John Chunk," following the recent trend. It's a simple glitch that stems from some wonky math regarding damage, buffs, and debuffs, allowing Warlocks to draw huge chunks of a boss' health bar with a single grenade.
Using it doesn't require much setup, even though perfecting it can be tricky. You need the Contraverse Hold Exotic armor with the Chaos Accelerant Void Aspect equipped, meaning it's only available in Void builds. Holding down certain grenades with that combination transforms your skill into a close-range, shotgun-esque spread of Void energy. Hitting it in the right way would deal borderline illegal amounts of damage on your enemies. Think of it like getting a B0re in Borderlands 2.
There's still some mystery surrounding how to get the perfect chunk. To some, it's about hitting the enemies in the leg or lower half, while higher frame rates seem to improve your odds of chunking down anything in your way. All that may be moot starting next Tuesday, however.
Summarily executing anything in your way was quite a skewed experience, so we'll have to wait to see Handheld Supernova's actual firepower post-update. Thankfully, Warlocks still have a slew of good builds, including Contraverse and Axion Bolts, Getaway Artist with Prismatic, and Stormdancer's Brace on either Arc or the iridescent element—though none have that sheer stopping power.
Outside of the death of a hero, Guardian Games is also bringing back the Rushdown boss gauntlet, as well as new weapons and a cosmetic set. It's unclear how much it will impact Destiny 2's catastrophic player counts, but at least it's content in a serious drought.

Destiny 2 fans looking forward to a friendly class rivalry (or anything to do in the game, really) don't have to wait that long. Guardian Games 2026 is right around the corner, potentially giving you another reason to open the game other than to check the Eververse Bright Dust offerings.
Unsurprisingly, Bungie is giving players more of the same, though with new weapons and a new set of armor ornaments per class. Here's when it begins and what you can expect from the event.
When is Guardian Games in Destiny 2?
Guardian Games 2026 launches on March 24 and runs until April 14, Bungie confirmed on social media. The popular Rushdown mode is coming back, according to a blog post, and we can also expect three weapons: two new and one reissued.
The base variant of Rushdown has a set order of bosses each day, but Bungie will also bring in a version with randomized foes, making every run different. This year, Guardian Games gets special Orders worth 50 Bright Dust each until you reach the cap. This is likely a result of the endless fan complaints after the asinine removal of the Bright Dust grind from Dawning 2025, which was a significant part of the event in previous years.
The API hinted at two of the weapons coming back: the Triple Laureate Spread Shot hand cannon and a fusion rifle called The Beacon (via light.gg). Bungie confirmed the addition of these two, as well as the return of the Keraunious Arc trace rifle. Perks for unreleased items in the API are always subject to change, particularly when they're still classified.
This will be the first edition of the Guardian Games since the addition of the maligned Portal in The Edge of Fate. Thankfully, it's not as one-dimensional as Solstice was, with Rushdown taking center stage. You can obtain Medallions and get copies of the event weapons by doing Portal activities, however, Bungie said in the blog post.
This year's Guardian Games doesn't seem to bring anything too special—and "nothing special" might as well be the motto for Destiny 2 in 2026 so far—but it might give content-hungry players a reason to log back in.

After a couple weeks of very nerdy grinding, Marathon fans and ARG gamers have helped to unlock the fourth, endgame map Cryo Archive.
The high-tier difficulty location opens up tomorrow at 12pm CT, but its accompanying trailer is overflowing with hype. Most notably so, because it's narrated by Ben Starr, who is the voice of rogue AI Durandal of the franchise's original trilogy fame, and that's enough to get anyone invested.
Starr kills it, as always, bringing his expertise from roles like Verso in Expedition 33 and Clive Rosfield in Final Fantasy 16 to Bungie's dark sci-fi universe. The UESC Marathon ship carrying 30,000 people in cryostasis has been shrouded in mystery and suspense for decades, even since the first games launched in the 90s. The ghost ship now hangs above Tau Ceti IV, and it's finally time to go there, and Durandal is the one rolling out the red carpet.
The video teasing the map was launched by Bungie after the final step of a lengthy, convoluted ARG was solved, thanks in large part to efforts of the community led by streamers such as Skarrow9 and MrRoflWaffles, who were flown out to Bungie to finish the fight and debuted the video live.
The 90-second teaser is dripping with aura and style, as Marathon is wont to do, hinting at near-impossible battles for those brave and geared enough to go within to fight new enemies. Only premade trios will be able to enter, and you must be level 25, have a minimum loadout value of 5,000, and have unlocked all of the game's factions. As the game's director Joe Ziegler teased, "surviving will be a challenge for even the most prepared of crews."
The trailer ends with a bang: a tease of what looks like a boss battle of sorts with the menacing S'pht Compiler enemy. In-game achievements confirm that you'll have to take one of these down if you want to survive, and that may be the game's toughest challenge yet. But the loot will presumably be quite rewarding, worth tens of thousands of Credits, along with much more. You'll just have to survive the UESC on board, along with doing battle against other players, of course.
Bungie said Cryo Archive is "Marathon's first end-game zone, a high intensity, raid-style PvPvE activity built around security systems, Vault chases, and contested exfils." And I am so scared, but also pumped.
This is the moment Marathon gamers have been waiting for. And reviewers, too. My Marathon review for Destructoid has been done for quite some time, but I've been waiting to hit publish to see what Cryo Archive has to offer (seemingly countless other outlets have been doing the same). I very much doubt the score will change much (if at all), but Bungie's expertise in endgame activities like Destiny's raids could mean that this location may bring the likes of something that the genre has not seen before, so I will be watching and playing intently.
Cryo Archive arrives in Marathon tomorrow, so the clock is ticking if you're looking to be geared enough to fight the horrors that lie within. Personally, I'm ready to lose my entire vault.

Destructoid Thursday, March 19, 2026 2:07 PM PlayStation Network no more: Sony will reportedly rename PS5's online services soon, for some reason
When the PlayStation 3 came online back in November 2006, so, too, did a new online system for gamers: the PlayStation Network.
Like Xbox Live before it, PlayStation Network (PSN) has been the home of gamers ever since the PS3, the PS4, the PS5, the PSP, and even the PS Vita. That will remain true for the foreseeable future, but under a different name entirely, according to a report by Insider Gaming.
An email sent yesterday to developers spilled the beans that the PSN branding will be going away by September 2026, "in order to properly capture the breadth of our evolving digital services." Au revoir, old friend.
"The upcoming changes are purely visual and will not introduce any technical alterations to our offerings," the email said. "To simplify and unify branding, the terms 'PlayStation Network' and 'PSN' will be phased out across all SIE assets by September 2026. All features currently associated with PSN, including core network features such as friends, multiplayer, and trophies, will remain unaffected and available to players. You'll be notified ahead of changes coinciding with the Technical Requirements Checklist (TRC) update in the fall of 2026."
So, basically, PSN is getting a new name. Right now, that name is currently under wraps, but if it's going to be all-encompassing to being Sony-ified, I'd imagine it will have a title that's way less appealing and easier to say than PSN. Sony Online? Sony Network? Something dumber and worse? I'm not really excited by the prospect.
Either way, even though this is just a cosmetic change, I am a bit sad to see the PSN moniker go. We've been through a lot together, including the massive hack way back in 2011, right after Mortal Kombat 9 came out, that led to the service going offline entirely for 24 days.
Goodbye, PSN. Thank you for all of those free games like LittleBigPlanet offered as recompense after you were hacked and had 77 million accounts compromised.

Update v0.4.4 is available on the full branch of Schedule 1, and we finally have dynamic weather to enjoy. These patterns have been added in addition to the day and night cycle that was already available inside the game.
While the weather functions randomly on its own, you can manually change it, too. Let's look at all the weather options and how you can change to the one you like.
All weather patterns in Schedule 1
The weather update offers six different patterns for you to enjoy.
Weather patterns aren't purely cosmetic, as your NPCs will react accordingly. The new update has added umbrellas that the NPCs will use when it's raining. So far, I haven't found any difference in the customer demand due to weather patterns, so you should still be able to sell your products as usual.
How to change weather patterns in Schedule 1
Typically, the weather patterns will change randomly, but you can use console commands to make the tweak manually. Here's the complete list of all the console commands you can use that are associated with weather patterns.
While I mentioned that the weather doesn't seem to affect product demand, you'll get a bonus when delivering drugs during the rain. Hence, you can manually trigger rainfall before completing the delivery of a product.

The Paradigm Shift 2 contract is a priority task for the NuCaloric faction in Marathon, and it involves downloading two pieces of intel in the Dire Marsh map.
It's one of the more complex contracts to complete, and more so because both tasks have to be finished in the same run. Thankfully, both tasks are of an identical nature, so let's look at how to finish the contract on your run.
Table of contents
Marathon Paradigm Shift 2 contract walkthrough
The Paradigm Shift 2 contract can be broken down into two parts.
How to download Protocol G access from secured room in Complex
For the first task, head to the eastern area of the Dire Marsh map where you'll find the Complex POI. You'll need to find the yellow-colored room with "PLX-3" written on top of it. The main door on the ground floor will be locked.
Use the nearby containers and jump onto the first-floor entrance. Avoid the lasers, use the stairs and come down to the room on the ground floor. Once the hack is complete, you'll find that the doors are locked. You'll also find boxes near the door: destroy the boxes, and you'll be able to escape the location and complete the first task.
There are two boxes: one in the same room and one on the stairs above. If you can't find them, you can wait for three minutes, and you'll be able to escape.
How to download quarantine protocol from southern Quarantine
The second part of the contract involves traveling to a building located on the outskirts of Quarantine. I have marked the exact location; if you're at the location, you'll find a quest marker showing where you can find the terminal.
Once you've completed the hack, you'll find a keypad near the terminal itself. Interact with it to unlock the nearby exit door. Alternatively, you can just wait for three minutes before the doors open. Thankfully, there are no enemy spawns, but you can come across runners.
Typically, an exfil spawns near this location that will allow you to escape from the map. The exfil part is necessary to complete the second Paradigm Shift contract, so don't die after hacking both terminals.

It can get lonely traversing the Fortnite island all by yourself, but luckily, there are many friendly individuals willing to join you in combat or lend a hand in the ongoing battle. Finding them can be tough, though, so you may want some assistance tracking down all NPCs.
Characters can help you turn the tide of battle, whether they choose to charge into a fight at your side, provide you with useful supplies, or help you make a quick escape. To ensure you're ready to call upon them as needed, here are all NPC locations in Fortnite Chapter Seven, season two.
All character locations in Fortnite Chapter 7, season 2
As of the start of the season on March 19, there are 14 NPCS hanging out around the Chapter Seven, season two map. The number of characters available always changes throughout the season, as existing NPCs may move around to different locations or leave, and new NPCs may arrive at any point. As these changes occur, we'll update them here, so you can always check back to ensure you know where each one can be found.
This guide is a work in progress and is receiving updates with additional details.
While working your way around the island to meet all of these characters, you also might want to stop and tackle key missions along the way. Some important ones to focus on are finding all Chaos Cubes, deciding whether to join Team Foundation or Team Ice King, finding the Ice King, and visiting Zero Point Shards for The Foundation.

The Dark Voyager is making his way around the island, and you're not quite sure what he's getting up to in Fortnite. To help you and your allies learn more about the situation, you need to find and collect all Chaos Cubes.
This is one of the longest and most tedious quests we've ever gotten in Fortnite, as it tasks you with tracking down a vast collection of rather small items. It's an easy one to end up stuck on since you've not given much instruction for it, so here's how to find and collect all Chaos Cubes in Fortnite.
Table of contents
What are Chaos Cubes in Fortnite?
Chaos Cubes are small, orange, floating, glowing cubes scattered around the island. They're remnants left behind by the Dark Voyager as he's making his way around the island, scheming up whatever he's got planned next.
How to collect Chaos Cubes in Fortnite
To collect Chaos Cubes, you need to visit certain POIs around the map and pick them up. This process is a bit tricky to work through at first, so here's a full breakdown of how to get it done.
How many Chaos Cubes are there in Fortnite?
There are 70 Chaos Cubes for you to find around the island. New ones will be released throughout the season, so you can't get them all right away. Finding all 70 earns you a whopping 80,000 XP, plus the additional XP you earn each time you pick up one, which is a huge prize that makes this otherwise tedious task well worth the effort.
Chaos Cube locations in Fortnite
At the time of writing, there are eight locations you can visit to find Chaos Cubes. All eight spots are main POIs marked by name on the Chapter Seven, season two map. The quest page for this scavenger hunt says that more will be added in the future, though, so we'll update this guide with additional spawn spots as they're introduced.
Around each location, Chaos Cubes can appear anywhere. Check inside buildings, underground, outside, on top of structures, and anywhere else you can think of. The exclamation point icon will always pop up when you're close, acting as a helpful guide to get you to the right spot.
There are plenty of other missions you can also work on while hunting for Chaos Cubes. If you aren't sure which ones to try, consider working on finding the Ice King, deciding whether to join Team Foundation or Team Ice King, and visiting Zero Point Shards for The Foundation.

Pearl Abyss's massive open world action game Crimson Desert is hours away from unlocking for players, and the critic reviews have come in for gamers to digest while they wait.
Crimson Desert hit Metacritic last night with a whopping 85 critic reviews, landing at an overall average score of 78. While 74 percent of the reviews are positive, 25 percent are mixed, and there are four perfect scores in there, along with 10 at a score of six out of 10 or below. So, yeah, it's a bit all over the place.
Destructoid's own review, scored at 8.5, praised the game for its "fantastic, content-rich open world where player freedom is the number one priority," while lamenting that "a lack of polish breeds frustration."
To summarize, almost all reviews say the game features a giant open world full of things to do, but whether those things are fun is a matter of opinion. As for the game's storyline and plot, there weren't many positive comments to be found. All of the reviews are of the PC version, and there has not been any footage of the base PS5 or Xbox Series X|S made available ahead of launch.
Crimson Desert reviews round-up
Vice - 10/10
"If you are someone who wants a more linear or cinematic, story-driven campaign, Crimson Desert might not be for you. However, if you loved the sense of freedom and discovery that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild had, then Crimson Desert is the next big game in that genre. Pearl Abyss has truly created something special here, that I suspect we'll be talking about for years to come."
Forbes - 9.5/10
"But if the question was if Crimson Desert could really be that big and really play that well and really keep you entertained the whole time, the answer, for me, is unequivocally yes."
Windows Central - 9/10
"Crimson Desert is the kind of game that usually only comes along once in a generation, so singular in its ambition that it will define the gaming conversation for weeks, if not months, to come. Despite granular misses, Pearl Abyss has showcased what gameplay freedom truly means."
Destructoid - 8.5/10
"Crimson Desert features a fantastic, content-rich open world where player freedom is the number one priority. There's so much to do and so many places to go to that it's easy to get lost among its ancient ruins, mystical forests, and snowy mountains. A lack of polish breeds frustration, but nothing can shake up the firm foundations of this incredible title."
GAMINGbible - 8/10
"Crimson Desert is by no means a perfect game. It's an amalgamation of perhaps slightly too many ideas, and that makes for a weirdly paced experience that demands a lot of the player without offering much in the way of help. And yet, it left me in awe more times than anything else I've played in recent memory with its dazzling open-world. Crimson Desert may not be the best game you'll ever play, but it'll certainly be up there as perhaps the most memorable."
Game Informer - 7/10
"[Crimson Desert is] a beautiful, exploration-rich open-world game that's a clear technological achievement, hampered by a cornucopia of little frustrations and a stark lack of narrative depth."
GameSpot - 7/10
"Crimson Desert is a frequently thrilling game, elevated by an open world well worth exploring and hard-hitting combat that delights with its depth and emphasis on player expression. It might not always be the most cohesive game, mixing high fantasy with steampunk and sci-fi elements, but there's nothing else quite like it, and I can't help but be impressed by how little restraint Pearl Abyss has shown in its commitment to delightful absurdity. In some respects, Crimson Desert might not be too good to be true, but it's a world worth getting lost in."
Eurogamer - 6/10
"A vast world and even vaster array of MMO-like activities mix with glittering fidelity in Crimson Desert, but what good is it without much character, texture or charm?"
Shacknews - 5/10
"Crimson Desert is an exercise in excess, and it is worse for it. If you believe more is always better and are so enraptured by 'world big' that you are willing to overlook substantial, glaring flaws (and there are many), you'll love Crimson Desert. Perhaps the most damning thing I can say about Crimson Desert is that it is an enormous game with a ton of content, and I spent most of my time with it wishing I was doing anything else."
Will you be picking up Crimson Desert? Let us know in the comments below.

The Fortnite island gets a bit of a makeover with each new season that unfolds in any given Chapter. For Chapter Seven, season two, a heated rivalry between The Foundation and the Ice King has caused several new locations to pop up.
The island is quite large, with plenty of areas you can explore for loot. Some spots are much better than others, so familiarizing yourself with all locations you can venture to is crucial for helping you secure a victory royale. Here are all key map locations for Fortnite Chapter Seven, season two.
Table of contents
All new locations in Fortnite Chapter 7, season 2
There are four new POIs you can explore in Chapter Seven, season two, which are Squibbly Shores, Frigid Fortress, Dark Dominion, and New Sanctuary. Some of these spots only made small modifications to the locations that came before them, while others completely transformed the entire surrounding area.
These fresh POIs also brought some new Landmarks to the island. The new Landmarks you can explore include Squibbly's Point Lighthouse, Anti-Grav Shard, Sticks, Frozen Shard, Ice King Vault, and Swift Shard.
All POIs in Fortnite Chapter 7, season 2
There are 14 main POIs around the island in Chapter Seven, season two. These are all of the large locations that contain the most loot for you to find, and they're also the ones that are marked by name on the map.
All Landmarks in Fortnite Chapter 7, season 2
Landmark locations are smaller spots that aren't marked by name on the map. Whenever you enter one, though, you'll see the name appear in the upper right corner. Here are all of the Landmarks you can visit this season.
Venturing to unique locations is essential for checking off many quests this season. As you explore, you may want to learn all weapons and loot you can find along the way, work on visiting Zero Point Shards for The Foundation, and tracking down the Ice King.
You've also got a tough but important choice to make, and you'll want to do so before you get too deep into the season. This decision is whether to join Team Foundation or Team Ice King, and whatever you decide will impact the rest of the season.
