Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, March 24, 2026 11:40 AM The UK games industry is "seeing a decline of unprecedented scale and speed" according to the latest research done by video games industry trade association TIGA. According to TIGA's report, 1,537 development jobs were lost overall in the sector during the year-long period leading up to September 2025, marking the first downturn on that front in 14 years. Meanwhile, studio numbers have fallen and startup companies are struggling. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, March 24, 2026 11:13 AM Epic Games, the creator of Fortnite and the Unreal Engine, have announced plans to lay off more than 1000 staff. In addition to the layoffs, the company have made more than $500m in cuts by reducing contracting, marketing, and closing open roles. Sweenet says this puts the company "in a more stable place." Sweeney, a strong advocate of AI, says the layoffs "aren't related to AI". |

Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, March 24, 2026 7:38 AM If you read our verdict over the weekend, you'll know that Mark and I found the anime-flavoured Screamer reboot to be a delightfully exaggerated bit of slidey arcade racing – albeit one that, in the story-based Tournament mode, sometimes becomes randomly, viciously hard for no readily apparent reason. Judging by Screamer's first update, which launched yesterday alongside game access for Digital Deluxe pre-orderers, those difficult spikes were an oopsie on the part of developers Milestone. Rather than send themselves on a Driving Awareness Course, though, they've "tweaked AI behaviors in various events to bring them closer to the intended difficulty," while announcing a future balance pass for the game's difficulty settings. That's good news for controller-chuckers and desk-smashers, though obviously as someone who progressed through Screamer before this update, I claim entitlement to the same Smug Bellend rights as those Elden Ring players who beat Pre-Patch Radahn. |

The next Hello Kitty Island Adventure DLC expansion is about to head to the Switch, Switch 2, PS5, and PC, and it is the former Apple Arcade-exclusive City Town add-on that starred the Sanrio mascot Usahana, added a new region, and included new character shops like a cafe. It will debut on all other platforms on April 16, 2026. A price wasn't mentioned yet, but the Wheatflour Wonderland DLC cost $14.99 after it launched.
Since City Town has been available in Hello Kitty Island Adventure via Apple Arcade since 2025, we already know exactly how to access it and what to expect. After you get the Fishing Rod and Snorkel tools and Zipline access, then get to level seven friendship with Badtz Maru, Chococat, Cinnamoroll, Keroppi, and Kuromi, a new quest called "Ship Shape" will be available at the Resort Docks on the starting island. This involves fixing up a boat with all the involved characters and start the "Into the Fog" quest that takes us to the new City Town urban region where Usahana lives.
Once you get to City Town, there will be new Critters and Fish to catch, a new kind of flower, and four different kinds of materials like Tapioca and Tea Leaves. More Puzzle Rooms can be solved and Visitor Cabins can be set up. The Imagination Cafe lets us run the cafe and serve customers. Also, existing characters like Kuromi and My Sweet Piano open shops that let us create Avatar Palettes with flowers or get Plush Pals.
Hello Kitty Island Adventure is available for the Switch, Switch 2, PS5, PC, and iOS mobile devices via Apple Arcade devices, and the City Town DLC expansion Apple Arcade exclusivity ends when it launches on April 16, 2026 on other platforms. The Wheatflour Wonderland expansion is already available on every platform worldwide.

When Nintendo discussed Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream in its dedicated Direct, it brought up some of the ways in which we'll get to customize this new experience via elements like face paint and Quik Build. Which makes sense, given that's been such a major feature in all games in the series. They've always been about creating characters, watching their lives, and influencing their appearances, actions, and relationships. After getting a chance to spend a few hours actually playing the game, setting up an island home, and shaping some Miis lives, I feel like there's so much more than we could have expected. Like sure, there's the element of nudging them into friendships and relationships we might want or making them look certain ways through the initial setup process and clothing. But it isn't just the Miis. It feels like other areas are up for grabs.
Of course, everything starts with Miis in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. When you begin, you create one character. (You determine their hair, eyes, nose, if they have visible ears, eye glasses, makeup, if they have facial hair, height, size, gender, attraction, voice, and personality traits. Many of these are recurring elements from past Mii character creators, but I also felt like I saw quite a few new options! I especially appreciated the two-tone hair possibility, as well as the ability to already establish someone as a partner, child, parent, grandparent, sibling, grandkid, or relative of another established Mii. But with face paint, it really feels like a comprehensive way to customize characters in a more intricate fashion that isn't limited to the sort of grids like we saw in past Animal Crossing games' fashion designers. The Pro Mode option lets us opt for more advanced settings for some of the different design elements. When that's on, you can turn on a grid view and the option to draw along grid lines or select the background color, as well as adjust the color palette and color range. It's also possible to zoom in, and the touch screen is enabled for this area in handheld mode, which I found helped with the process.
That same customization element comes up in the Palette House feature. Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, from my time with it, adds new functions as you create new Miis to live on the island. So it's a gradual sort of experience where you "meet" a person, interact with them and folks you may already have there, then get access to a new feature as a result of a request they might have made. The food creation option is a good example. You can have a blank slate, or start with elements like a plate, bowl, box, can, or past creation to start with a backdrop. You can use stamps to offer some sort of default setting, and part of that even means using the faces of Miis you added so far. Said creations can also be turned into stamps for additional use in other designs.
Of course, some of the other established elements are things we saw in Tomodachi Life and Tomodachi Collection. Where & Wear is the clothing store, with daily "specials" that expands the selection lineup and single pieces. T&C Reno is tied to interiors, with again a daily options that involves a new possibility. With money we acquire by helping Miis, feeding them, and interacting with them, we can invest in elements that let us further adjust how they look. The new Little Quirks feature also feels like a means to ensure individuality when setting up characters. It sort of seems like they're all elements designed to help the Miis we add better resemble the real-world or fictional people they are based on.
Speaking of returning elements, the Fountain is back. This ended up being a scenic area in the original handheld games. Here, as we make characters happy and see them level up, we can earn currency to level up the island at the fountain and grant a wish. The first time it levels up, we get new "give a gift" options for when a Mii levels up, adding new goods and Little Quirks possibilities. It acts as a motivator to continually check in on Miis, as our influencing them fills the bottle that lets us grant more wishes and gain access to more possibilities. Which in turn shapes our experience in unique ways.
Finally, there's the Quik Build feature, which is new to this installment. At any time, we can adjust the way our island looks. Initially, this could involve making a path from a house to connect an isolated home to the major landmass. But we could also add decorative elements or things characters can interact with, and the Miis might even ask for these sorts of things. For example, a bench is one of the earliest additions. It's a means of making an island look exactly how you'd like, or provide more opportunities for characters to interact and enjoy different things. It sort of feels a bit like the Animal Crossing: New Horizons terraforming element, though of course the perspective is different.
Nintendo gave us chances to customize our Miis' lives in past Tomodachi games, and it seems like the company is going to offer more ways to influence many elements in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. We'll decide who they are and how they look, with the creator offering more customization options. We'll choose what their interiors look like again. We'll even shape the design of the island and some of the items. After a few hours, I saw a lot of ways in which I could adjust things to my liking, both in terms of appearances and behaviors, and I'm sure there will be even more things to alter as I spend more hours with it.
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream will come to the Switch on April 16, 2026.

There are a few different bosses lurking around the island in Fortnite Chapter Seven, season two. These formidable foes drop some of the best loot you can get. The Ice King is one of the tougher bosses you can face this season.
Like most bosses, the Ice King is a tricky guy to track down and face in battle. The items you get for besting him are well worth the effort, though, so here's how to find and defeat the Ice King in Fortnite.
Table of contents
Ice King boss location in Fortnite
The Ice King can primarily be found at the Frigid Fortress POI near the north end of the island in Fortnite. He hangs around the front courtyard area in between the fortress entrance and the main palace area, close to a massive statue of himself.
In most rounds, you'll find the Ice King at his icy castle. If he's not there, though, he also has a chance to spawn at Carmine Lodge, a small Landmark location south of Frigid Fortress. This spot is situated up on the mountain, slightly east of Dark Dominion.
Boss spawn location patterns change each season, but this time around, they seem to be a bit more fixed between just a couple of spots rather than a bunch of them, which makes finding them a lot easier. If any changes to this system occur as the season progresses, though, we'll update all key details here.
How to beat the Ice King in Fortnite
While most hostile NPCs and bosses are fairly easy to best in battle, the Ice King is one of the more dangerous ones I've encountered over the seasons. He's got some really strong gauntlets that dish out impactful ice damage that's tough to dodge. He can also summon a dangerous icy storm that swirls around you. You do not want to be caught in this storm, so do your best to avoid it at all costs.
The Ice King also isn't alone, as his loyal companion Lady Windfrost follows him wherever he goes. This means you're basically fighting two hostile characters at once, so you'll need to be prepared for a fairly tough fight.
To beat the Ice King in battle, try to focus on dealing damage against him, since Lady Windfrost will perish automatically when you do manage to take him out. You'll also want to have full health and shields before you face him, as well as a solid rotation of guns you can cycle through.
Once you have a solid supply of loot, fire at the Ice King with everything you've got. Rapid weapons like pistols and SMGs are especially useful here, as it's easy to knock his shield and health bars quickly with them. When he starts to float or charge up his gauntlets, do your best to evade the attack. Consider running away or hiding behind structures briefly to ensure you're not hit.
All Ice King boss loot in Fortnite
The Ice King drops the Mythic Ice King's Gauntlets item. This is a powerful weapon, and there's only one in the loot pool on the entire island in each round, so it's certainly worth fighting him for. You can use this weapon to fire ice projectiles and unleash an icy storm on your enemies.
The rest of the Ice King's drops are random and not exclusive to him. They usually include healing items, some gold bars, and ammo. His loyal follower Lady Windfrost drops a weapon and some healing or shielding items, too, so be sure to loot the spot where she perishes as well.
Now that you've taken on this formidable opponent, you can move on to other key tasks around the island. Next, you might want to decide whether to join Team Foundation or Team Ice King, visit Zero Point Shards for The Foundation, and learn how to drive the battle bus.

Palia tasks you with exploring a vast world rich with resources and creatures you can collect. Some are easier to find than others, though, with the elusive Stickleback being a particularly tricky fish to get your hands on.
Various quests, tasks, and bundles call for specific items, including the Stickleback, so there are quite a few times you may find yourself searching for this fish. It can't be caught just anywhere, and only spawns at certain times, so strategizing carefully is key. If you're having trouble finding one, here's how to find and catch a Stickleback in Palia.
Table of contents
Stickleback locations in Palia
Sticklebacks can be found swimming in rivers all throughout Kilima Valley. There are quite a few rivers you can visit to check for them, including the area north of Phoenix Falls, the river that runs down from Mirror Fields to the Mayor's Estate, slightly north of Whispering Banks, and both above and below Maji's Hollow.
At any of these locations, a Stickleback is never guaranteed. How easy or difficult it is to encounter one mostly comes down to luck and random chance. To have the easiest time farming them, it's best to start up by Phoenix Falls, fish around there, move south down the river, stopping to fish as you go, then circle around to Whispering Banks, and end your route near Maji's Hollow. Repeat this loop until you manage to find one.
Some of these areas look a lot more like ponds than rivers, but as long as they're attached to the marked river areas, they technically count as possible spawn spots for the Stickleback.
How to get a Stickleback in Palia
You can technically find a Stickleback when fishing with no bait in rivers, but you'll have a much easier time finding this elusive fish if you use Worm bait. Without this bait equipped on your fishing rod, your chances of finding it are fairly low.
Although fishing is the best and most reliable way to get your hands on a Stickleback, there's a chance that you may obtain one through ranching, too. When caring for and collecting items from a Boovar, you may get a Stickleback as a random drop. This creature can produce any fish from Kilima, though, so this is not at all a reliable method of obtaining any one specific fish.
Best time to catch Stickleback in Palia
Sticklebacks are a day fish, which means they can be caught at any time between 3am and 6pm. Time in Palia moves differently from your own local timezone, so you can check what time it is in the upper left corner. If you attempt to go hunting for a Stickleback outside of this timezone, you won't ever be able to find one, so keeping an eye on the clock is crucial for ensuring you aren't wasting time and resources.
There are plenty of other items you might be searching for while exploring the world in Palia, like Red Eggs, Sweet Leaf, Yellow Eggs, Green Eggs, Oily Anchovy, and Blue Eggs. And if you're looking for a break from resource gathering, consider switching over to tackling a key storyline mission, which is Do Not Go Gentle.

There are plenty of mounts available in Crimson Desert, and there are three Legendary horses located across Prywel. These are among the best mounts in terms of their agility and power, but you'll first need to know where to find them.
Here's how to track down and tame the best horses in Crimson Desert.
Table of contents
All legendary horse locations in Crimson Desert
Ideally, you'll want to go for a legendary horse after growing your character a fair bit. This is necessary since you'll need high base stamina. If your stamina is low, you'll be unable to fight the horse, and you'll be thrown off.
You'll be able to control the horse better with high stamina. Here are the three legendary horses that you'll want to find.
Royler location in Crimson Desert
Royler is the easiest legendary horse to tame, and will likely be the first you'll find in the wild. Once you're in Pailun, go to the Silver Wolf Mountain. Royler can be found near the snow glass shelter at this location. You can refer to the image above for the exact spot.
Pay attention to your health since this area has snow, which will negatively affect your health. Royler's biggest strength is his stamina, but he has extremely well-rounded stats. He is the best early game horse you can find in Crimson Desert.
Rokade location in Crimson Desert
The legendary black stallion can be found in the Steel Mountains region, and you'll usually spot him near the Spire of Insight. Rokade's greatest strength is his massive pool of health among all legendary horses (he might have the highest health among all mounts). If you're someone who simply can't dodge incoming attacks, Rokade will be a welcome addition.
Camora location in Crimson Desert
Finally, you'll need to go near the Tashkalp region, where the Camora can be found in the Red Tree forest. The legendary red horse is ideal for those who want to be aggressive in combat. He has great stats for attack and defense, making him ideal for fights.
How to tame legendary horses in Crimson Desert
The process of taming legendary horses is the same as controlling ordinary horses. You'll have to play a mini-game after mounting the horse. Point your LS towards the direction of the horse's tail. You have to hit it multiple times without falling, and you'll be able to eventually add the legendaries (or ordinary horses, for that matter) to your stable.

Each season, Fortnite battle passes feature all kinds of epic rewards you won't want to miss out on. Leveling up enough to collect them all can be tough, but luckily, this process is a lot faster than usual, thanks to the purchase XP mechanic in Chapter Seven, season two.
This feature isn't one you're told about and is a bit hidden, so there's a decent chance you may not know how to use it. XP you can buy using gameplay points isn't something you'll want to miss out on if you're hoping to complete the battle pass, so here's how to purchase XP in Fortnite.
Table of contents
How to buy XP in Fortnite
You can purchase XP by spending Rivalry Coins at Rivalry Screens in Fortnite. There are quite a few different mechanics you can interact with at these stations, but to buy XP, you'll want to use the blue screen machine on the right side.
The gold screen machine only lets you buy weapons, and the main rivalry screen is focused on starting a feud, so neither of these will help you get the XP you're after. Only the blue screen machine has it. Upon interacting with it, scroll over to the XP icon to spend your Rivalry Coins on XP.
Where to buy XP in Fortnite
XP can be purchased from the machine with a blue screen next to any Rivalry Screen around the Chapter Seven, season two map. They're situated all around the island, so you can buy XP just about anywhere. To find a Rivalry Vending Station, look for the crossed sword icon on your map.
Each station is marked with this icon once you're in the general vicinity of one. Regardless of where you are on the island, there are usually at least five or so of these stations nearby, making them quite easy to find and use.
How much does XP cost in Fortnite?
XP only costs 10 Rivalry Coins, making it one of the most affordable items you can buy from Rivalry Screens. Weapons and other effects you can get from these boards generally cost a lot more, so this option is a great deal. Each Rivalry you win grants you 20 Tokens, so you'll have enough to buy some in no time.
How often can you buy XP in Fortnite?
You can only buy XP once per day, with each purchase granting you 5,000 XP. Still, if you manage to buy some every other day or so, you'll rack up quite a lot of it rather quickly. Even if you're hoping to save enough for the Exotic weapons available at this machine, it's still a good idea to also grab XP frequently, as it doesn't cost enough to set you back much at all.
This season has plenty of other tricky mechanics and features you may need help navigating. Next, consider working on collecting all Chaos Cubes, using the Jam Track Player, opening the Squibbly Shores Lighthouse Vault, and finding The Foundation's lost helmet and cape.

All around the Fortnite island, there are plenty of secrets waiting to be uncovered. Vaults are one of the more common ones, with quite a few treasure troves waiting to be opened if you know where to look. One such vault can be found at the Squibbly Shores Lighthouse.
Unlocking and accessing this one requires you to complete a secret task. The rewards you can get are well worth the effort, so here's how to open the Squibbly Shores Lighthouse Vault in Fortnite.
Table of contents
Lighthouse Vault location in Fortnite
The Lighthouse is situated on an island just off the coast of the main Squibbly Shores area. You'll find the vault in the main room on the first floor of this building. It's a screen with a keypad right under it. You cannot interact with it at all until you actually have the key to open it, so tracking down this item is the first step.
How to get the Lighthouse Vault key in Fortnite
The Lighthouse Vault keycard can be fished out of a shiny turquoise fishing spot just off the small island slightly north of the Lighthouse. Finding and catching this item is the toughest part of this quest, so here's a full breakdown of how to get it done.
If the shiny water pool vanishes when you pull your line in, you'll know you caught the keycard. It'll drop on the ground nearby for you to pick up. If you don't get it on the first try, keep fishing out of this spot until you do.
How to open the Lighthouse Vault in Fortnite
Once you've got the key, head back to the Lighthouse on the island nearby. Head inside the front door and walk straight to the middle of the room. Hover over the keycard in your inventory and interact with the screen attached to the green pole to unlock the vault. As soon as you do, the vault will officially be open, and some loot will spawn in front of it.
Lighthouse Vault loot in Fortnite
The Lighthouse Vault doesn't have any exclusive loot, but it does have a decent chance of dropping some very high-quality items from the Chapter Seven, season two loot pool. Typically, you'll get an array of Rare and Epic weapons from it. It also always grants you a Pro Fishing Rod, which is useful if you want to fish up some more goodies nearby. You'll usually get some health, shield, and utility items, too, like a Med Kit and Overdrive Grenades.
If you're up for tackling more tricky tasks around the island, there are plenty of other missions worth getting done next. Some good ones to prioritize are finding The Foundation's lost helmet and cape, collecting all Chaos Cubes, using the Jam Track Player, and getting the Golden Exalted Ice King.

The Foundation is a key player in Chapter Seven, season two, which means he has plenty of missions for you to tackle in Fortnite. One of the tougher ones he'll give you is to track down his lost helmet and cape around the island.
This mission is an essential one to tackle if you want to unlock The Foundation's bonus battle pass items. You're not given much guidance for the search, though, which makes it a fairly daunting one to work through. If you're struggling to find the items required for this mission, here's how to find The Foundation's lost helmet and cape in Fortnite.
Table of contents
The Foundation's lost helmet location in Fortnite
The Foundation's lost helmet can be found on a snowy peak directly north of Wonkeeland and northwest of Frigid Fortress on the Chapter Seven, season two map. It's also south of the Storm Station Landmark, which is situated close to the north end of the island.
To find the exact right spot, make your way to the tallest peak near the west end of the snowy mountain area. Once you're in the general region, you'll spot a white diamond exclamation point icon, which will guide you to the precise location you need to visit.
You're looking for an exact replica of the helmet that The Foundation always wears, sticking out of the snow. It's a dark grey helmet with some red markings on the screen. You don't actually need to bring it back to him; instead, all you have to do is interact with it at this spot to progress the quest.
The Foundation's lost cape location in Fortnite
You can find The Foundation's lost cape along the coast of the island, directly south of Sus Studios and east of Battlewood Boulevard, close to a large rock. Although you may have expected the two lost items to be situated close to one another, they're actually on almost completely opposite ends of the island, which means you have to do quite a lot of traveling to get them both.
The Foundation's cape is a dark grey item with some red markings. It has the same color scheme as the helmet, which makes it easy to pinpoint once you're in the right area. It'll also be marked with the same white diamond exclamation point icon.
Find The Foundation's lost helmet and cape in Fortnite
To complete The Foundation's lost helmet and cape quest, you simply need to find and collect both items. This can be done by visiting the snowy peak near the north end of the island and the rocky coast near the south end of the island, approaching each of the lost items, and selecting the button that appears by the "Pick Up" option.
As soon as you pick up both items, the quest will be complete. This mission may now be done, but there's still plenty of other tricky tasks to get done around the island. Next, you might work on finding and defeating Dark Voyager Echo, collecting all Chaos Cubes, using the Jam Track Player, and visiting all NPC locations.

Cursed Gear Trello, Wiki and Discord Links
Here's a bunch of useful links for playing and staying up-to-date on Cursed Gear:
There's a lot of useful links here but the one I recommend you dive into first is the Trello board and Wiki page. They'll offer you the most extensive overview of everything the game has to offer. They have info on:
There's a bunch of info to dive through and a lot of customization options so a Trello goes a long way. But for community info and staying up to date on the updates to the game you can't beat the official Discord server. It's a community HUB for both players and active devs for any questions you may have.
Besides the channels for announcements, update logs and sneak peaks which are great for news, you can also keep track of trading. Both the trading channel and trading Discord server streamline the process of organizing trades in-game. Just make sure to learn the values of everything (ask around Discord) and be careful of getting scammed in trades.
That's it for my Cursed Gear Trello board, Wiki page and Discord server links and walkthrough. Check out our Cursed Gear tier list for more guides.

Nova Roma release countdown
Nova Roma will be released worldwide in early access on Thursday, March 26. The following countdown will expire once the game goes live later this week.
The countdown is based on the following times.
The countdown is based on the information available on SteamDB. Any updates and last-minute changes will be added ASAP.
What to expect from Nova Roma
In Nova Roma, you take charge of Romans who have fallen from their past glory. You now have to find a new place that your citizens can call home and build it up gradually. While the ultimate aim is to make Nova Roma the pinnacle of the Roman Empire, it won't be easy.
You begin in charge of a humble village and gradually build it up. Along the way, you will face different challenges as you need to meet the needs of all your citizens. Every step is crucial, and one wrong decision could doom your upcoming city.
Moreover, not everything will be in your control, as you'll need to appease the gods. Infuriate them, and calamity can strike your city at any moment. Hence, you'll need to focus on building structures of art and religion to keep your citizens and the heavenly powers happy.
If you're interested in Nova Roma, there's a free demo available on Steam that you can download and play.
