PCGamesN Wednesday, December 28, 2022 7:09 AM Overwatch 2's monetisation system is a bit of a mess at the moment, and that's putting it mildly. Blizzard's hit FPS sequel has been roundly criticised by its own community for disregarding players less inclined to dip their toes into premium purchases, and it's not difficult to see a glimmer of truth in the accusation. So far, both Overwatch 2 seasons have included a free battle pass that's been populated with a meagre offering of low-value victory poses, sprays, and portraits – all of which pale in comparison to its premium counterpart. If you're a free-to-play consumer, you can forget the highly coveted mythic skins splashed over the main menu that sit at the culmination of the premium Overwatch 2 battle pass. The free version of the battle pass doesn't even include legendary items. Do you like new and exciting cosmetics for your favourite heroes? Do you like reaping the rewards of your hard-won victories in a live-service videogame? Tough ta-tas, because Overwatch 2 doesn't care… unless you're paying for it. PCGamesN Wednesday, December 28, 2022 5:46 AM Who doesn't love a free game? Sure, I might be pushing the limit of what that means when it comes as part of a subscription, but if you're already paying for such a thing then getting one of the best immersive sims and stealth games as part of the deal just makes it all the sweeter. If you hadn't already guessed it, I'm talking about Arkane's excellent Dishonored 2. PCGamesN Wednesday, December 28, 2022 4:29 AM If you're meeting up with friends or family, it's worth knowing the best split screen games to play at Christmas. With 2022 being almost as bad as the few years previous, you may actually be looking forward to seeing your family during the holidays this year. Seeing as you're all cooped up inside anyway, you may as well hand your loved ones a controller and get to work forcing them to play games with you. There's no better way to usher in the holiday season than by huddling around the television with loved ones to play videogames, and generally it's better if those loved ones can play the games with you, rather than just watching. That's why we've compiled our favourite split screen and local co-op games. We've included a mix of competitive and cooperative games, depending on the type of people you're playing with. While the idea of repeatedly destroying your friends and family at games might sound appealing, you may want to channel that energy into completing tasks together instead. Let's face it, an argument during the holidays is inevitable, but that's no reason to force one. Sure, you could play some of the best PC board games, but you'll probably need something with a bit more tempo to keep everyone conscious after dinner. Whether you're playing these games huddled up next to a monitor, or streaming your PC directly to your smart TV with the Steam Link app, there should be enough on this list to keep you busy over holidays. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Wednesday, December 28, 2022 6:00 AM A little known fact is that all of the RPS staff are complex clockwork automata, designed and built by a little gnome with the kind of inch-thick glasses that make your eyes look comically large. We're each powered by a spell that lasts but 12 months, so every Christmas we fall over like sad marionettes. The gnome has to spend a couple of weeks trekking up a mountain to see the fairy who can recast the spells on us. You can help fund his sled dogs and provisions by becoming a member of the RPS supporter program. While he's away, we've prepared some Christmas Crackers for you. Time to enjoy your lovely joke!
