But lurking behind that all-too-innocent story mode there is a Biblical terror in the shape of a 50-floor tower, made up of increasingly challenging trials. Link's Awakening with a sort of Bloody Palace component? Yeah, I'll take that. |

I hadn't heard of it before and am quite interested, partly because the game sports some wonderfully mangled and colourful dystopian maps, and partly because it's a story of immigrants trying to find their way to an inevitably deceptive "shining city of progress", rather than the typical Chosen One fare. Your family specifically are afflicted by a fatal disease. Your initial and perhaps overall goal in New Arc Line is to find a cure, of course, but who knows, along the way you might have to "get your hands dirty", "rise from the bottom" and become some sort of absolute bastard. Although faux-medieval games are common, there aren't all that many about regular people and regular concerns. Even LotR was increasingly about battles and armies as it went on, rather than the unique management parts. But in Under The Yoke, you're just a serf. You want to make something of yourself, but it's about a regular person managing his life, not some unlikely "adventurer", whatever that means. So you'll mostly be toiling, and foraging, and genuinely having way more actual skills than us superior modern folk. And despite some UI issues and rough edges, it's weirdly compelling. |

Tucked within its coils there are two whole levels, Rimian Base and Batari Forest, together with a Garage where you can customise your Wanzer and access to the in-game Network menu. "Who are you calling a Wanzer?" you bellow. Calm down and stop waving that chair. A wanzer is a mech, in short. And Front Mission, by the way, is a 90s tactical RPG series from G-Craft and Square, both of which have since been assimilated into the terrifying robot octopus that is present-day Square Enix. Much as with Final Fantasy Tactics games, Front Mission games are stagey political thrillers about countries and corporations and other factions waging perpetual war upon each other, with players thrust into the mix as mech squad leaders. |

That's a whole decade of tromping across Tamriel with your mates, and a whole decade in which I've watched tentatively from the sidelines, thinking about dipping my toes into the MMO pool, but never quite building up the courage (or lining the walls of my bank account) to fully take the plunge. I've heard all the horror stories about starting a new MMO from other members of the RPS Treehouse - particularly when it comes to the lore-laden shackles of World Of Warcraft and the bloated MMO-service-hybrid Destiny - and quite honestly, it's enough to put me off them all entirely. But The Elder Scrolls Online might just be the exception to the rule. I spent a portion of the game's tenth birthday yesterday playing Gold Road, its upcoming eighth Chapter expansion. In it, you're whisked over to the West Weald, an autumnal, sun-dappled region whose main city hub, Skingrad, will no doubt feel familiar to seasoned Oblivionites. Seemingly overnight, a strange jungle has sprung up on the city's outskirts, uprooting the nearby villages of the neighbouring high elves and causing havoc as strange beasts pour out of its curling root beds. There are more mysteries to unravel here, too, including the emergence of the new Daedric Prince, Ithelia (revealed at the end of last year's Necrom Chapter), and much more besides - too much to realistically take in during a 90-minute preview session, or for this MMO newbie to fully comprehend the significance of. But there's something about Gold Road and its gnarled-up jungles, strange cults and fantastical beasts that's definitely made me want to make a return journey here when it launches on PC on June 3rd. |

Good Smile Company started pre-orders for two new Nendoroids of the Spirits Kurumi Tokisaki and Tohka Yatogami from Date a Live V. Each one costs ￥6,400/$39.99 and will come to Japan in September 2024 and other regions in Q1 2025.
Both Kurumi and Tohka are wearing the girls' uniform for Raizen High School. This is the class both attend, even though they are Spirits. Both figures come with one face place that has a closed mouth smile and a second with an open mouth smile. Tohka also features one in which she is blushing, while Kurumi's third one looks more sly. Tohka's two bonus accessories are a strawberry crepe and loaf of Kinako bread. Meanwhile Kurumi comes with a black cat rice ball and two cats who can pose alongside her.

The 2.0 and 2.1 Penacony Trailblaze Missions in Honkai: Star Rail pack the same weight as some of the Xianzhou Luofu ones, lending the same weight to Gallagher as past ones did to another member of the cast. However, in this case there were far more hints something was awry.
Editor's Note: There will be spoilers for Gallagher and the part he plays on Penacony in the "The Sound and the Fury" and "Cat Among Pigeons" Trailblaze Missions in Honkai: Star Rail.
One question that we've had about Gallagher, as well as any character who we met on Penacony, is if he's good in Honkai: Star Rail. The fact that he is a Bloodhound Family security officer makes it seem like he should be a good guy. He's also a huge mystery. Each time we encounter him, it seems like he isn't just a Penacony family member, but something else is going on. The thing is the whole time, HoYoVerse seemed to be letting us know who and what he is. He appears to be a memetic entity directly tied to the unseemly things happening on Penacony, and hints kept coming up to let us know that.
There are all of these little hints in Honkai: Star Rail that suggested that Gallagher is not entirely good, trustworthy, or who he seems to be. Let's look all the way back to his appearance at the 23 second mark in the "White Night" music video. He's shown with a lighter, which he snuffs out. Now, this could be a subtle hint to the fact that he is a fire element character in the game. However, it could also reference the fact that he's snuffed out the lives of Sam, Robin, and Sunday with Something Unto Death. Especially since the background behind him turns the same shade as the Memory Zone in Penacony.
The most obvious came from how Gallagher was handled in "Sleepless Night" and "When the Sacred Ginmill Closes." In both cases, we happen upon Bloodhound Family members working security and dealing with issues. In each, Gallagher is nearby. However, these people who apparently work with him don't know who he is. Given his age and degree of authority, something is quite awry. Only select people know who he is or are allowed to perceive and interact with him. It seems to be folks he takes an interest in and allows to know him.
We also need to take into account that Gallagher says that he is 13. Given he's also seen to be about 30, the lie is weird. Unless we consider he's an amalgamation under Mythus and the Enigmata path, in which case the entity known as Gallagher could truly be only 13 years old. After all, we don't know when the first Something Unto Death victim Ansorol died. However, the number 13 itself also is often tied to unlucky or deadly things. It's also the Death card in any Tarot deck.
For those who actually pulled Gallagher on the banner and spent time leveling him up, his Character Story also includes a hint that something is wrong and he isn't who he seems to be. You have to get him to level 80, first. Before that, there are just the suggestions that he's so many contradictory things at once, in retrospect, betrays Gallagher. (How can he professional, respected, and organized, while also casual, unrecognizable, and a slacker?) The wham line for that part is, Gallagher is my most genuine lie. Sometimes, I can't even distinguish between him and myself." He's flat out telling us he isn't who he claims to be.
Plus that level 80 discussion also brings up the point that Sunday himself makes in "Cat Among Pigeons." Gallagher isn't any one person. He's an amalgamation of data and elements of other people and things. In his level 80 Character Story, it's talking about him essentially bringing up past lives and other people's stories. When Sunday confronts him, he's bringing up how Gallagher contains parts of all 52 suspects. This suggests that like Black Swan and Something Unto Death, Gallagher maybe a memetic entity based on ideas too.
It's one of those situations where if you paid attention, you would absolutely know something is about to happen with Gallagher in Honkai: Star Rail before it did. HoYoVerse was trickling out all these hints, some more obvious than others. People who paid attention to his interactions with others, appearances, and details if they were lucky enough to get him probably already had some idea of what was going on long before the events of "Cat Among Pigeons" happened.
Honkai: Star Rail is available for the PS5, PC, and mobile devices, and Gallagher is a permanent four-star character available on all banners.

Good Smile Company is now accepting pre-orders for the Pop Up Parade figure of Frieren from Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. The figure will cost either ¥4,800 or $31.99 depending on which store you order from.
Standing at around 160 mm tall, this Frieren figure is made of painted plastic and comes with a stand. The sculpt was made by Daigaku while Tomofumi handled paintwork duties. It features Frieren in her signature outfit and includes details like her red earrings and a spellbook under her arm. Orders from Good Smile's Global store will cost ¥4,800 and will ship in September, 2024. Meanwhile, US store orders will cost $31.99 and are expected to ship in Quarter 1, 2025.

Square Enix announced the next FFXIV 14 Hour Broadcast back in March 2024, and now we know the full schedule for the April FFXIV event. It will consist of six main segments and a secondary broadcast involving the new FFXIV TTRPG upcoming table top game based on the MMORPG.
Everything will start at 8pm PT/11pm ET on April 12, 2024. That is when a half hour long introduction will begin. At 9pm PT/12am ET, Letter from the Producer Live LXXV (80) will begin. That will last two and a half hours. Both the FFXIV Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida and Global Community Producer Toshio "Foxclon" Murouchi will appear at this Japanese-only presentation. Starting at 12am PT/3am ET on April 13, 2024, the Show Us Your IRL Minions presentation will involve Yoshida and Murouchi looking at players pets and other "minions."
The Primals 10th anniversary announcements is the next event on the FFXIV 14 Hour Broadcast schedule, and it will happen at 1:30am PT/4:30am ET on April 13, 2024. As the full group is expected to appear, that means FFXIV Composer Masayoshi Soken will show up. A Stroll with Yoshi-P will involve Yoshida joining raids while Senior Story Designer Banri Oda, Lead Level Designer Arata Takahashi, Lead Battle Content Designer Masaki Nakagawa, and Lead Background Artist Yoshiki Takanashi talk about the game. That starts at 6am PT/9am ET. Finally, it ends with a Developer's Round-table Discussion at 7am PT/10am ET.
As for the secondary "Let's Give the FFXIV TTRPG a Go" broadcast, it is a more extended showcase. It starts at 8:30pm PT/11:30pm ET on April 12, 2024. That is expected to last almost 11 hours, as it ends at 7am PT/10am ET on April 13, 2024.

Front Mission 2: Remake is coming to more platforms soon, Forever Entertainment has announced. The game will be releasing on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S on April 30, 2024.
Here's the latest trailer that goes over the new platforms and shows how the strategy game looks:
In addition to the news that Front Mission 2: Remake will be coming to more platforms, a demo has been confirmed for Steam. It will allow players to experience the game's first two levels, Rimian Base and Batari Forest. They will also be able to access the Garage so they can customize their Wanzer.
The demo will be available in nine languages (English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian, German, Polish, Simplified Chinese and Japanese) and save data will carry over to the full version. The demo will be exclusive to Steam for the new releases, although the previously released Switch version also features the same demo.
The remake of Front Mission 2 previously released for Switch in October 2023. Its release schedule has been similar to the remake of the first Front Mission, with a timed exclusive Switch release followed by a general release the following year. A remake of Front Mission 3 has also been confirmed, although no further details have been revealed to date.
Front Mission 2: Remake will release for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S on April 30, 2024. The Switch version is available now.

The movie Suzume now has a new streaming home, as Netflix announced the film is now there. Subscribers can catch it on the service.
Suzume first showed up in theaters in Japan in November 2022. Crunchyroll then picked it up and confirmed it would appear in US and UK theaters in April 2023. After that, Suzume was streaming outside Japan on Crunchyroll as of November 2023. It is still on that service as well, in case someone doesn't have a Netflix subscription.
In case you missed it, Suzume lives in Kyushu and lives a rather ordinary life. After she meets a man named Souta, she learns that strange doors can show up in spaces around Japan. After happening upon one, she ends up disturbing a statue of a cat near it. As a result, there's a disruption that could lead to a cataclysmic and supernatural entity wreaking havoc on the real world if she doesn't accompany Souta in heading to these doors and finding the missing guardian she inadvertently set set loose.

This is one of multiple films from Makoto Shinkai that is found its way onto Netflix. In the past, Your Name and Weathering with You were also there.
Suzume is now streaming on Crunchyroll and Netflix, though Netflix didn't note how long it will offer the film on the service.

Pocketpair kicked off a sale on Steam for all of its PC games, which includes Palworld. It will last until April 15, 2024.
Three games are reduced as part of this latest sale. The discount varies based on the age of the game. So as Palworld is newest, it is only 10% off. However, Craftopia is 40% off.

Unfortunately, this Palworld sale does not apply to the Xbox One or Xbox Series X version. That still costs $29.99 in the Microsoft Store, as usual. However, it is a part of Xbox Game Pass, so people with a subscription can find it in the library and play without purchasing it.
This sale comes right as a much-anticipated update arrived for Palworld. A new patch went live on April 4, 2024. In addition to adding the first Raid, which involves the Pal Bellanoir, it also added an array of new items and equipment. There is a bug tied to the update that affects incubators, but Pocketpair offered a workaround for folks to use ahead of the next patch.
AI: Art Imposter, Craftopia, and Palworld are all on the PC via Steam, and the latest Pocketpair sale lasts until April 15, 2024.

Atlus released a new trailer for the upcoming Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance updated release, this time showing off new gameplay and a host of demons. The game is slated for debut on June 14, 2024.
The trailer begins with an encounter with one of the Qadistu, a new faction set to play a major role in the new "Canon of Vengeance" story route. We also get a look at new character Yoko Hiromine in both cutscenes and combat. Towards the end of the video, we see a new form for the protagonist. It includes a facemask, a much shorter haircut, and the usage of the ability "Paraselene Blur." Lastly and perhaps most importantly, the trailer confirms the playability of Nahobiho, the previously revealed Jack Frost variant that looks like the protagonist.

Kiara Takanashi announced her new song "Chimera" will soon be on Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify, and YouTube Music. It will be available to hear on April 5, 2024 at 1pm PT/4pm ET/10pm CET, which is the same time the music video will appear on YouTube.
Here's the placeholder for the music video ahead of its debut. The initial image suggests she will also wear her idol costume that she performed in at Hololive 5th Fes during it.

While this is the official launch of the new track, we've already heard Kiara Takanashi perform her new song. She did so at Hololive 5th Fes in March 2024. It was one of the major reveals at the event and one of the debuts during the four concerts.
Kiara isn't the only Hololive English member to have a big musical reveal this week. For Calliope Mori's 2024 birthday celebration, she released a free 3D concert. That appeared earlier in April 2024.

Ginza Cozy Corner revealed that it will produce and sell cakes inspired by Pikachu and Eevee from the Pokemon franchise. The latter will also include all eight Eeveelutions that have appeared as of the ninth-generation games Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Pre-orders for are immediately available in the company's physical outlets across Japan, but it will only start actually selling the cakes on April 12, 2024.
The Pikachu Choco Banana Cake featuring will be available to purchase on its own for 745 yen (~$4.99). The Pokemon franchise mascot's cake will contain chocolate cream sandwiched between two sponge cakes with banana cream decoration on its top.
The Eievui Friends Collection—named after Eevee's official Japanese romanization spelling—will contain nine cakes in a package. The set will be available at 3,132 yen (~$20.65).

HoYoVerse took to social media to offer more insight into the Zenless Zone Zero Cunning Hares characters via a fake "website." As a reminder, in-game the four people tied to that faction are Nicole, Anby, Billy, and Nekomata.
Here are the latest Cunning Hares "website" images. The main page is the initial ad highlighting how the urban investigation team can handle all sorts of jobs at "fair prices." The second image reviews from past customers. One has a comment from "CrispyCabbage," who appears to be the member Anby, praising Nicole before being called out for commenting on that while being logged in. The third page has stylized portraits of all four members of the team.
HoYoVerse has shared details about one of the Cunning Hares quite often recently online. Nekomata ended up appearing in a trailer. She is also the star of the April 2024 calendar wallpapers.

Some people could end up seeing the Zenless Zone Zero Cunning Hares characters firsthand soon. HoYoVerse announced an Amplifying Test back in March 2024. Like the other betas, such as the Equalizing Test, it will give people a chance to test out the title ahead of launch.
Zenless Zone Zero is headed to the PS5, PC, and mobile devices, and the Amplifying Test beta is going to show up on the PC and mobile devices "soon."

U-Treasure has revealed new limited items that it will produce and sell to help celebrate the Monster Hunter series' 20th anniversary. One of the items shown is a head figure based on the rare species Silver Rathalos. It will be available in two different materials, with the platinum Rathalos head figure costing around $145,000.
The Silver Rathalos head figure will be sculpted with detailed accuracy. U-Treasure will also put each figure inside a special case with a numbered plate.
This head figure will be available in two material types: Silver 925 with Rhodium coating and Platinum 950. The coated silver head figure comes with a price tag of 2,200,000 yen (~$14,500). The platinum version will cost ten times more at a whopping 22,000,000 yen (~$145,000). U-Treasure will only produce 20 copies of each version.

The Rathalos head figure is not the only item U-Treasure will produce to celebrate Monster Hunter's 20th anniversary. The brand will also sell plates modeled after Silver Rathalos and Gold Rathian. Both plates will have the same price tag of 110,000 yen (~$725) as they will have the same Silver 925 material; Rathian's plate will simply get an additional yellow-gold coating.

Good Smile Company has opened worldwide pre-orders for its upcoming Nendoroid of Claire from Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town. People in the U.S. and Canada can place their orders on Good Smile Online Shop U.S. for $42.99. Those living elsewhere worldwide can instead head to the Japanese international website, where the chibi action figure is available at ￥6,900.
Claire will be the first character from Marvelous' Story of Seasons series that Good Smile Company will make a Nendoroid of. The company announced the initial plan in late July 2023. It later shared images of the unpainted prototype in February 2024.
Good Smile Company has shared new sample images of the fully painted Nendoroid prototype. The earlier prototype featured a turnip that the owner could split to simulate the planting of the upper part. The new sample images confirm that the full set will come with the series' cow and chick, as well as a watering can and a farming field sheet. Claire will also have an alternate facial expression plate that shows her winking.
Claire is the default name for the female protagonist in Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town. The farming life simulation game is readily available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. However, the character had been conceived far earlier when Marvelous' Bokujo Monogatari series was still known to the English-speaking audience as Harvest Moon.
Claire made her debut in Harvest Moon for Girl, an alternate version to the PS1 entry Harvest Moon: Back to Nature that was released exclusively in Japan. English-speaking people could play as her in Harvest Moon: More Friends of Mineral Town on Game Boy Advance in 2005 and Harvest Moon: Boy and Girl on PlayStation Portable in 2007.
The pre-order window for the Nendoroid of Claire from Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town will close on May 15, 2024. Good Smile Company will ship the chibi action figure from Japan in September 2024 and North America in Q1 2025.
