Welcome to the Week in Review
Welcome
Early August is usually about as quiet as it gets in the tech world, but Google’s having none of that this year. Next week, its latest Made By Google event will showcase the new Pixel 9 series, including the swoon-inducing Pixel 9 Pro Fold that the company teased last month. But judging by the rumors we expect plenty more besides phones – including, of course, lots of Gemini AI news. Check out our event preview linked below for our predictions.

Not that you need to wait until Tuesday for new Google goodies, because this week it treated us to some pre-event releases in the form of the latest Google Nest Learning Thermostat and its all-new TV Streamer. Read about them below too – and pour one out for the poor old Chromecast, which has gone to the great Google graveyard in the sky like so many devices before it.

Disney Plus is not headed for the hereafter any time soon, as far as we know, but it is quite possible that it will lose some subscribers in the near future. That’s because it’s starting its Netflix-style password-sharing crackdown soon – and also hiking prices in some countries at the same time. Then again, Netflix did much the same and actually gained subs, so don’t be surprised if its rival pulls off the same trick.

Have a great weekend – and be sure to tune in to TechRadar for all the Google news next week!
