| PCGamesN Thursday, October 28, 2021 6:43 PM | | Super Robot Wars was providing massive multimedia crossover battles before it stopped being cool, and its particular combination of beloved mechs and strategy RPG tactics has been legendary among anime fans for years. The series' licensing nightmare has made releases outside of Japan rare, but with Super Robot Wars 30, English-speaking fans are finally getting the full experience in an official, worldwide release. And judging by the Steam player counts, those fans are eating it up. Super Robot Wars 30 reached a peak concurrent player count of 17,005 on day one, as SteamDB shows. That makes it the 62nd-biggest game on Steam today - not a mind-blowing number, but very impressive for a niche series making a very rare appearance outside of Japan. Super Robot Wars 30 features characters and mechs from numerous anime series, including Code Geass, Mazinger, SSSS.Gridman, and several Mobile Suit Gundam eras. Previously, the only Super Robot Wars games to be released in the West were bits of the Original Generation subseries, which focus on original characters rather than licensed crossovers.

| PCGamesN Thursday, October 28, 2021 6:15 PM | | If the years of Age of Empires fans begging for a sequel didn't give it away, people have spent a long time hungry for a new entry in the classic series of strategy games. Well, Age of Empires IV is here, and it's already burning up the Steam charts - the player count is bigger than any of the previous remasters and re-releases, and the game is sitting comfortably among Steam's top 20. Age of Empires IV reached a peak concurrent player count of 54,851 shortly after launch, as SteamDB shows. That's the 17th biggest peak on Steam today - right between Rocket League and Rainbow Six Siege - and the biggest in series history. Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition previously reached a peak of 38,725 earlier this year. These numbers don't even account for players via Xbox Game Pass for PC. That's one of the biggest debuts we've seen for a strategy game in Steam history, and it might just be the biggest launch for any RTS on the platform - assuming you're pedantic enough about 'tactics' versus 'strategy' to remove Total War: Warhammer and its 113,019 concurrent player debut from the running. | PCGamesN Thursday, October 28, 2021 5:25 PM | | It was just last year that we first caught wind of Bright Memory: Infinite, an insanely polished-looking FPS game from Chinese indie developer FYQD Studio. Now it's got a release date, and will be coming out on Steam November 11, with support for some of the latest and greatest in hardware-based special effects. Bright Memory: Infinite is about a special operative named Shelia who finds herself swept up in a strange cosmic event that opens a rift between two worlds. A black hole has opened and has connected the modern earth she knows with some mythical, primordial world of legend. That means she gets to use an arsenal of modern firearms, as well as a suite of mystic powers as she battles enemy soldiers and gigantic monsters pulled straight out of folkloric tales. There's just a dizzying array of tech on display in almost every frame of Bright Memory: Infinite, as you'll see in the new trailer below. Shelia can use a sword to lop off enemy limbs, swap to a Titanfall-style assault rifle, parkour her way out of or into danger, and zipline between vantage points.

| PCGamesN Thursday, October 28, 2021 4:52 PM | | We already knew that more content would be coming to Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and now Ubisoft has confirmed when we can expect it. The next round of major content will land sometime in the next five months. This comes after dataminers started to dig up info on a new expansion reportedly called Dawn of Ragnarok. "We plan to deliver great new content for year two of Assassin's Creed Valhalla," Ubisoft explains in its latest financial report, "notably in the second half of the current fiscal year." That fiscal year ends on March 31, 2022, which gives us a fairly specific window in which the new DLC might launch. Ubisoft already confirmed that more expansions would be landing in the second year after Assassin's Creed Valhalla's launch, and we got a very brief teaser for what to expect back at Ubisoft Forward in June. An image of a portal decorated in runes spilling lava into a forested valley has been our only official info so far. | Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, October 28, 2021 6:16 PM | | The WD Black SN750 is a super-fast PCIe 3.0 SSD - and the 1TB model is down to £87 at Amazon UK, a historic low price. That's a fantastic price for what was once among the fastest NVMe SSDs on the planet, with read speeds up to nearly 3500MB/s... before the advent of faster (and more expensive) PCIe 4.0 drives in the last couple of years. Still, in terms of value for money, this TLC drive with a DRAM cache is going to be hard to beat - especially as the only real competitors tend to come with QLC NAND or without a DRAM cache, both of which sacrifice performance to hit lower price points! | PC Invasion - FeedDDD Thursday, October 28, 2021 8:00 PM | | Earlier this year, Vicarious Visions, the developer behind the recent Crash Bandicoot and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater remakes, merged with Activision Blizzard. It has been working exclusively on existing Blizzard properties, recently with Diablo II: Resurrected. Rightfully seen as a baffling decision by many, this merger effectively eliminated Vicarious Visions' creative independence. Even though its work on the aforementioned remakes proved extremely successful and popular with fans. This came as other subsidiaries of Activision, including Crash Bandicoot 4 developer Toys For Bob which underwent similar restructuring and ended up stuck working on only the most popular Activision brands, namely Call of Duty. And now, according to a recent Polygon report, employees at Vicarious Visions found out that the studio will apparently lose its name as it fully merges with Blizzard. Polygon's report says that the employees learned about the name change during a town hall meeting ...

| PC Invasion - FeedDDD Thursday, October 28, 2021 7:15 PM | | No one can hear you scream in space, whether or not you're screaming in terror or from glee. But fans of Aliens: Fireteam Elite are likely screaming about the latter, as developers Cold Iron Studio revealed a new Year 1 roadmap, which teases tons of new free content including new weapons and attachments. The game already released a season of free content, with a brand-new kit called the Phalanx. With the new roadmap, we have details on how much more free stuff we'll actually get, and it looks like plenty to dive into. The new Phalanx kit came with four additional weapons and five new cosmetics, available for free to all players. In the future, we're not just getting new weapons, but some new game modes as well. Each new kit will come once every quarter, starting on Quarter 4 2021 until Quarter 3 2022. With each new kit, players will get new weapons, new attachments or perks, new challenge cards, and new perks. Ultimately, this will bring us to three game modes, 12 ...

| PC Invasion - FeedDDD Thursday, October 28, 2021 7:00 PM | | Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas may be getting an overhaul in a couple of weeks, but it's going to be seeing some more serious changes soon. In a Tweet from Oculus, San Andreas been confirmed that the game is coming to Oculus Quest 2 in the future. Not much information was included aside from the fact that this version is currently in development. As for how well a game from 2004 will look in VR, I'd imagine that the visuals will be more in line with the upcoming remaster, although we currently know nothing of what to expect. Speaking of Oculus Quest, that isn't going to be its name for much longer. The Oculus headset and accompanying app will become known as Meta Quest, going along with Facebook's newly announced rebranding. The rationale behind this, as given by company leader Mark Zuckerberg, is that he wishes for Meta to be known as "a metaverse company." I don't know what that means, and I suspect it doesn't actually mean anything. ...

| PC Invasion - FeedDDD Thursday, October 28, 2021 6:45 PM | | Intel has been talking a hot game since the appointment of Pat Gelsinger as the new CEO earlier this year. What began as a bunch of small teases has now grown into tangible press showings of some exciting upcoming products and technologies. Just the other day, Alder Lake CPUs were formally revealed, which promise impressive generational performance gains. Don't let that steal the limelight from the latest presentation about Intel's graphics and gaming division, though. The Intel InnovatiON Day event touched on upcoming technologies. It included such tech like GTAO ambient occlusion, XeSS resolution upscaling tech, ray tracing, and perhaps most importantly, support tools for game developers. After all, what good is a technology if it's only in a select few games and challenging to implement properly? Intel's plan is to develop a suite of tools for its Xe ARC architecture that will be open software for both partners and competitors with which to experime...
