The good version of Minecraft is coming to Game Pass PC, but no GTA: San Andreas

A new month is here, which means it's time to look forward to a new range of games coming to Xbox Game Pass for PC. The highlights this month include some we've known about, including Forza Horizon 5 and both versions of Minecraft, but there are some notable new announcements, too - and one disappointing name missing.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - The Definitive Edition is coming to Game Pass, but only on console. The remastered trilogy is going to be a Rockstar Launcher exclusive on PC, and PC Game Pass titles only come through the Microsoft Store, so… It appears we're at a fairly major impasse on that one. Xbox comrades, enjoy as of November 11.

As previously announced, Minecraft: Java Edition and Minecraft: Bedrock Edition are both coming to PC on November 2. Bedrock offers some neat features like crossplay, but for most PC players, Java is the version that matters - it's got the most robust mod support, and it's terrific to see both versions available here.

Fortnite player reaches level 1,000 for the first time

For the first time in Fortnite battle royale's four year history, it's happened: a player has reached level 1,000 in a single season. YouTuber Rages Revenge has reached the astounding battle pass over a month before the season is set to come to a close, and it remains to be seen just how much higher that level can get.

Rage got the final bit of XP necessary to cross the level 1,000 mark by searching an ammo box outside the storm wall during a team rumble match. It appears there's no actual limit to how many levels you can earn - Rage's XP meter is now ticking up to level 1,001, which will require another two million points to reach.

Season 8 XP for Fortnite started out fairly stingy, but after a number of buffs early in the season, the rewards have gotten pretty generous - and given that players are now reaching level 1,000 in a single season for the first time in the game's history, it's probably safe to say that those XP payouts are now better than ever.

Call of Duty: Vanguard PC install size and pre-load details have arrived

Call of Duty is big. Yes, it's popular, but it's also big - Modern Warfare and Warzone have become emblems of the ballooning download sizes of modern games. Luckily, the Call of Duty: Vanguard install size is quite a bit more reasonable than its predecessors, and the devs have revealed exactly how it breaks down on PC.

At its smallest, Vanguard's multiplayer and Zombies modes will only take up 36GB of storage space on PC at launch. A full install will take up 61GB. You can also optionally dedicate an additional 32GB or 64GB as a hi-rez assets cache, for more efficient streaming of high resolution assets. At the top end, that brings us to a total of 125GB for the biggest install possible - but it's terrific to see more options for those short on hard drive space.

You can carve out that install soon, to, as the Call of Duty: Vanguard PC release time is set for November 2 at 10am PDT / 1pm EDT / 5pm GMT, ahead of the full Call of Duty: Vanguard release date on November 5. The PC version of Vanguard will only be available via Battle.net.

Riders Republic review – a forza nature

Riders Republic is a hell of a lot of game. That shouldn't come as much of a surprise if you've been watching Ubisoft gradually turn series like Assassin's Creed and Far Cry into hundred-hour RPGs, but while some might say that hasn't always been the best decision in those cases, I mean it as a true compliment for Riders Republic; no caveats. It needs to be big for it to work, for it to feel fresh and deep simultaneously, but also instantly accessible, something you can pick up and play for a quick ten-minute session just to pass the time. Oh, and you can buy it here if that summary's enough for you.

Extreme sports veterans Suki and Brett introduce you to the titular Riders' Republic, which is an amalgam of several iconic national parks, including Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, Zion, Grand Teton, Sequoia, and Canyonlands. Suki and Brett are both kind of insufferable, speaking solely in slang that you can imagine parents using in vain to connect with their kids. The republic is "vibing", it's full of "bucknutty riders", and the first set of events you'll be taking on are, naturally, "off the hook". It's like the script was pieced together by an AI doing a Jack Black impersonation. Fortunately, they don't badger you much beyond the game's opening, and they're happy and kind and warm, so it's hard to harbour too much disdain for them.

Once they're gone you're pretty much free to explore, compete, and mess around to your heart's content. The map is enormous. Genuinely gargantuan. But it feels bigger the more you retread (or should that be reshred?) slopes and valleys you've already ridden through. You'll notice that a single downhill slope can be approached in several different ways. You can speed down the precarious hairpins on a road bike, bomb through the mud on a dirt bike, ski the receding patches of snow, or skim across the ground in a wingsuit. Better still, you can seamlessly switch between all of them with a couple of button presses, much like in The Crew 2. And what do you do when you reach the bottom of the hill? Fast travel or trudge all the way back to the top? Nah. Just equip your rocket suit and fly there.

AGDQ 2022 includes Stardew Valley in 20 minutes and blindfolded Sekiro

Games Done Quick, the twice-annual charity speedrunning event, will once again be bringing us a dose of speedily-beaten games this coming January. Event organisers have revealed the full game list for AGDQ 2022, and from Actraiser to Zadette there are a load of fun runs on the schedule, and fans of everything from farming games to bomb defusal simulations will find something satisfying.

Some of the big PC games on the list include Sekrio: Shadows Die Twice, which will be completed blindfolded in a two hour, forty-five minute estimate by Mitchriz. We're also getting a full Stardew Valley community center restoration - one accomplished through glitches - in 20 minutes, courtesy of runner Olenoname.

Deathloop, which you may know as our first 10/10 game in two years, will be completed in under 25 minutes, and we're getting an all boss race through Dark Souls between Danflesh and Ecdycis. For something completely different, Procyon will be taking on Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes' giant Centurion bomb in just over an hour.

The best Call of Duty Vanguard Machine Pistol loadout

Trying to find the best Machine Pistol loadout in Call of Duty Vanguard? The Machine Pistol is far from the best Call of Duty Vanguard gun, but it's always going to be there when you need it. Unless you're using the Overkill Call of Duty Vanguard perk, the Machine Pistol is going to be the best secondary weapon option for most people.

This gun isn't bad per se, but its primary use is for emergency situations. Pulling out the Machine Pistol is much faster than attempting to reload your primary weapon, so this gun might end up saving you more often than you think. Featuring a measly ten bullets per clip and heavy recoil, the stock Machine Pistol desperately needs attachments to make it a viable secondary weapon.

Our loadout addresses the Machine Pistol's key three weaknesses: the small magazines, heavy recoil, and poor fire rate. With all of these changes, the Machine Pistol can turn into a weapon that you can truly rely on in the heat of battle.

The best Call of Duty Vanguard 3-Line Rifle loadout

Looking for the best 3-Line Rifle loadout in Call of Duty Vanguard? With a solid effective damage range and high one-shot kill potential, the 3-Line Rifle is already a powerful option for those wishing for a more long distance gameplay style.

So what are we looking to upgrade with the 3-Line Rifle? The primary focus for all sniper rifles is accuracy, as you don't want it to wildly sway as you line up a shot from a distance. Recoil control is essential, of course, but the centring speed and idle sway control are critical for lining up shots on distant foes. That said, the stats of the 3-Line Rifle give a bit of wiggle room to reduce the reload and aim down sights times and boost the firing rate a tad.

This 3-Line loadout guide will go over our picks for the best attachments for the sniper rifle. However, if you find that the 3-Line Rifle still isn't the sniper rifle for you, we also have the best Vanguard Kar98k loadout that complements its one-shot kill potential.

Call of Duty: Vanguard's system requirements are kind to your SSD

It's almost time to jump into Call of Duty: Vanguard's campaign and multiplayer modes, and we now know what your gaming PC will need to stand its ground. While Beenox's PC port has the potential to shine bright on the latest RTX GPUs, you won't need to revamp your rig to jump into the action.

If you're a Call of Duty regular, you'll already know that preparing for battle is going to involve freeing up some storage space on your SSD or HDD. Thankfully, Vanguard's installation demands aren't quite as outlandish as Call of Duty: Warzone's, but you will still need to accommodate the game's 36-61GB required space.

Settings wise, Vanguard has various bells and whistles, from ultrawide gaming monitor support to uncapped frame rates and a low latency mode. Naturally, these settings are going to appeal to players wielding high spec PCs. However, if you're sporting a slightly older build, you should still be able to join the fold.

     Best gaming desk in 2021

A gaming desk might not be at the top of your wishlist, but your setup isn't complete without something sturdy and stylish to rest the best gaming keyboard and best gaming mouse on. Evolving beyond a plank of wood sitting atop four legs, nowadays desks can be as simple or as feature-packed as you want.

When choosing a gaming desk, there are several considerations to make, such as a built-in system to help you manage cables, wireless charging for your phone, or even height adjustment - which helps to take extra care of your posture when paired with the best gaming chair. It's not all about functionality, though, with some desks aiming to fit the same gamer aesthetic of all your other components, being adorned with their very own RGB lights.

Whether you're looking for a cheap gaming desk that's a step above your bog-standard model with plenty of handy features, a table with plenty of room to support the biggest and best gaming monitor setup, or maybe even an L-shaped desk to maximise your available workspace, we've got the right desk for you.

The best Call of Duty Vanguard BAR loadout

Looking for the best BAR loadout in Call of Duty Vanguard? The BAR - or the Browning Automatic Rifle, if you're feeling fancy - is a mainstay of WWII era CoD games, so its return in Vanguard comes as no surprise.

Unlike in previous CoD games, though, the M1918A2 BAR is an assault rifle, rather than an LMG. It packs a powerful punch and is able to take out enemies in two or three shots, but it does suffer from a couple of drawbacks - most notably, its high recoil may give you some trouble hitting your shots, and its rate of fire is rather sluggish, too.

The best Call of Duty Vanguard BAR loadout we've found upgrades the weapon's recoil control and rate of fire. Based on our experience with the game, we also found it particularly useful to also upgrade the BAR's mobility and accuracy in order to keep up with the fast-paced combat of modern CoD games. However, if you're particularly struggling with the recoil, we've found a few alternative recommendations to help you out.

Here's what Total War: Warhammer 3's Nurgle army could look like

Creative Assembly is rolling out its Total War: Warhammer III updates at pace now. We know what boys Khorne is bringing to the yard, and just last week Tzeentch's army roster was also revealed. That leaves the two final Chaos factions, Nurgle and Slaanesh, who've not really been talked about much since the strategy game was announced back in May.

Rather than wait around for Creative Assembly to spill the beans, however, Warhammer fans have begun speculating about what the Nurlge roster will look like. User Jejinak on the Total War subreddit has put together a poster for a potential Nurgle roster, using either artwork or actual tabletop models to suggest units, heroes, and even who the Nurgle legendary lord will be.

Jejinak previously did a similar speculative roster for Cathay ahead of the official reveal, which was pretty close considering Cathay has had very little official support from Games Workshop before now. In terms of Nurgle units, Jejinak places the most likely options at the top, with the less likely towards the bottom, and also claims that the units above the Nurglings are pretty much guaranteed. Commenters have also pointed out that the Nurglings themselves are also pretty certain.

Rainbow Six Siege's next season is High Calibre, and the devs are teasing a new weapon

Rainbow Six Siege: High Calibre is officially the name of the game's next season, and the first teasers have arrived to give us a hint about what to expect. The teaser indicates that we're getting a brand-new weapon - likely a new type of SMG.

The gun in the teaser has "SMG5 MK 2 .50 GI" written on the side, which gives us a pretty clear idea of what type of gun we're getting. .50 GI ammunition is comparable in size to .45 ACP - to non-gun-nuts (like myself), that means this isn't some kind of .50 calibre arm-wrecking monstrosity of a submachine gun.

In a Reddit AMA a few months ago, the devs confirmed that a new weapon would "be available soon" as they target one new gun per year - so it looks like this is the one. Dataminers have uncovered apparent details on the operator for the new season, too. Apparently she'll be named Thorn, and be equipped with Razorbloom Shells that can stick to surfaces and will act as a damage-dealing proximity trap.

WoW's next patch focuses on improving the game, rather than expanding it

When World of Warcraft's patch 9.1.5 comes out tomorrow, November 2, there won't be a new raid or storyline to explore. Instead, the MMORPG's director tells us this update is about making a lot of small but important tweaks to some of WoW's core systems, aimed at improving the game for every kind of player, rather than introducing any significant new content.

"This is a different sort of update from the usual WoW patch," game director Ion Hazzikostas tells us. "There isn't the single big thing, there isn't a new raid, 'the thing' to get hyped about. It's like 50 small but impactful changes that I think will improve the World of Warcraft experience for basically everybody, regardless of what their playstyle is."

Hazzikostas says patch 9.1.5 is in large part a response to community feedback. Since the launch of Shadowlands, for example, players have let Blizzard know that they've felt restricted by the Covenant system, and so the limitations on switching Covenants are being removed in this update.

Final Fantasy creator blitzes FFXIV's entire story in just over one month

After a little over one month of grinding, Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi has played through FFXIV's entire story so far, making him ready for Endwalker later this month. To think, I was pleased with myself for wrapping up Heavensward and starting Stormblood in the week I had off.

Sakaguchi initially started playing Final Fantasy XIV on September 27, kick-starting a steady flow of wholesome screenshots and reactions on Twitter. He finished A Realm Reborn in around 16 days, though it only took him two days to wrap up Heavensward, which is some feat. Sakaguchi tackled Stormblood, Shadowbringers, and all the other patch content at a slightly more relaxed pace, finishing Shadowbringers on October 29 before wrapping up patch 5.55 on Halloween.

Sakaguchi initially started playing FFXIV ahead of a fireside chat with director Naoki Yoshida about the appeal and potential of RPGs at this year's Tokyo Game Show. In a subsequent interview with YouTube channel Easy Allies, Yoshida suggested he might have been brushing up beforehand, though Sakaguchi has been grinding away since doing the talk with Yoshida.

WoW's 9.1.5 patch allows free covenant switching because players have changed

Picking a covenant to join in World of Warcraft's Shadowlands expansion has been an important choice: changing to a new one meant going through a weeks-long series of quests. Blizzard's lifting those restrictions in the MMORPG's 9.1.5 patch, due out November 2, in part because of how players have changed their behaviour and expectations throughout WoW's 17-year lifespan.

"From the outset of Shadowlands, we set that [selection of covenants] up as a pretty heavy choice," game director Ion Hazzikostas tells us. "Once you picked a covenant, you could only switch to another one by going through a questline to atone or rejoin the covenant that you had once left. We've heard a lot from players over the last year that that was limiting their ability to play the way they prefer to."

Costs like the lengthy questline, or the old gold price tag for fiddling with talent points in the original game, were deliberate uses of friction meant to add weight to a role-playing decision, Hazzikostas explains. But increasingly, Blizzard has found that isn't how players approach World of Warcraft anymore.

Best gaming chair deals before Black Friday

Gaming chairs are arguably one of the most important parts of any gaming desk setup. Sure, finding the best gaming monitor, best gaming keyboard, and best gaming mouse during Black Friday might be more of a PC gaming priority, but ultimately, a reliable seat will help you stay in the game for longer. Of course, while ergonomics are important, there's no reason why you can't also be stylish and economical while purchasing a new gaming chair for your caboose.

Unlike traditional seats, there's a lot to consider when it comes to choosing a gaming chair. From premium materials to fancy features and customisation, ones designed for lengthy gaming sessions are worlds apart from their four-legged ancestors. Naturally, this also means that you'll need to consider various brands across a range of different price points.

If your current setup is subtle and efficient, you'll have no trouble finding a chair that screams practicality during Black Friday. However, if you're a fan of Razer, Corsair, and Logitech products, you'll also be able to stay faithful to the bold look of your favourite gaming PC brands.

Best gaming mouse deals as we approach Black Friday

We're slowly approaching that time of year again, where the prices of gaming gear are laid on the chopping block, the axe is lowered, and we're left with discounts spilling out into a basket below. The crowd cheers. Gruesome imagery aside, Black Friday might just be the perfect time of year to upgrade, but there are quite a few tempting gaming mouse deals primed and ready to go.

So, what separates a gaming mouse from your everyday office clicker? After all, you've already broken free from the confines of a trackpad, what more could you possibly need? For a start, they can give you the edge in FPS games with better sensors and adjustable DPI, extra buttons when playing the best MMOs, or cut the cord so you don't get your wires crossed without wireless input lag.

Most other times of year, these features come at a premium price, but Razer and Logitech aren't waiting for the day to roll around. We suspect we'll see Corsair, SteelSeries, Roccat, and HyperX join in on the fun by the time Black Friday lands on our doorstep, too, if you have your eye on a particular model.

Stellaris Invicta, a fake documentary about fake space empires, wraps second season

One of the most powerful things about grand strategy games is their ability to generate amazing stories, even if it's only in your head. Someone with the right drive, creative thinking, and who knows their way around editing software might be able to do something more elaborate with these narratives, which is where the people of the Templin Institute come in.

This group of Youtubers and streamers like to explore science-fiction and fantasy worlds, and one of their projects - Stellaris Invicta - has just wrapped up its second season. This is a faux-documentary show that follows the exploits of the 'Greater Terran Union' and other fictional polities, and involves input from community members and collaborations with other artists, as well as using footage from Stellaris itself.

Marc Gerst, one of the Templin Institute's co-founders, says the response has been better than expected. "I've been really happy with the response," he tells us. "Even taking into account the natural growth of our channel since the first run of Stellaris Invicta, we've seen a much larger viewership.... Even years later, people still get excited about season 1's Greater Terran Union and it's so gratifying to see that same type of reaction to Season 2. We were definitely worried that Season 2 might not reach the heights of Season 1, but that hasn't been an issue."

Battlefield 2042's latest trailer is an Nvidia RTX and DLSS enriched treat

Battlefield 2042 is arguably EA's most flamboyant first-person shooter yet, with 128 multiplayer support and weather effects that are sure to push gaming PCs to the limit. Thankfully, the futuristic FPS game comes armed with a trifecta of RTX features, and its latest trailer gives us a glimpse of Nvidia DLSS, ray tracing, and Reflex in action.

Captured using an Nvidia GeForce RTX series card, the gameplay trailer showcases the visual benefits of DLSS AI upscaling, alongside the green team's ray tracing ambient occlusion. It's needless to say that Battlefield 2042's extreme weather effects benefit from high-quality reflections, especially when it comes to wet terrain and slick surfaces, but DLSS also plays a role in making the experience possible. Put it this way, without AI upscaling enabled, the particle effects on display in this trailer alone would probably bring most graphics cards to their knees.

Before you get too hyped for Battlefield 2042's fidelity features, you should note that and DLSS requires an Nvidia RTX series card. Thankfully, Nvidia Reflex is available to cards newer than the GeForce GTX 900 series, so even if you're running an older rig, your shots should strike true. Admittedly, it's hard to get the gist of Reflex's low latency benefits by watching a trailer. Nevertheless, its inclusion is the cherry on top of a delightful RTX frosted cake that's sure to make Battlefield 2042 an absolute treat.

New World's hatchet bug is destroying players, but help is coming

New World's Hatchet is a bit good right now, to put it lightly. Over the past few days, oodles of players have taken to Reddit and the MMORPG's forums to flag that the Against All Odds perk probably isn't behaving like it should, prompting a response from one of the game's community moderators.

"Hello everyone, thanks for letting us know about this, and confirming others are experiencing the same issue," Rayman says. "Some other adventures also reported this earlier, and I have made the dev team aware already. I will be sure to include your details on the report as well! Thank you for your patience while we work to improve."

Typically, Against All Odds is intended to give you a base damage increase of 10% for every enemy that's within five metres of you. However, players report that the buff persists even after you die or someone leaves the five-metre radius, which allows some people to put out damage of up to 2,000 while unbuffed, for example. The buff only goes away if you swap weapons.

New World dev highlights how Town Criers brought players news during open beta

MMORPGs are a great place for players to get up to all kinds of antics and shenanigans. For example, in recent months Final Fantasy 14 has seen players running around dressed as Colonel Sanders, a giant chicken, and even Bethesda director Todd Howard. It seems New World is no exception, with senior producer Katy Kaszynski highlighting one amusing, and rather heart-warming, example that came to the devs' attention during the MMO's open beta.

In a talk at this year's Develop: Brighton conference about 'active listening' and how New World evolved into an 'MMO success story', Kaszynski touches on how the open beta (which ran from September 9 to 12) revealed to the devs "all of the other new and exciting ways the players were using our game". The test "let us see all the ways that people were using their agency", Kaszynski explains. "One of my favourites was this group [who] created a company called the Town Criers, and the Town Criers literally got the news of the day and then went to the different zones, the different settlements, and yelled in the middle of the town what was going on.

"What wars were coming up; when invasions were happening; where there were iron nodes that people hadn't found yet. They were just so excited to be these town criers, and it was really fun and really cool to see."

The games in which audio makes all the difference

As gaming has improved over the years, players have developed a higher awareness of the importance of peripherals in enhancing their gameplay. No matter how fun and immersive the game, no matter how good you are, a touch of lag or an unresponsive piece of tech could easily see your skills go to waste.

Having a great headset is particularly useful, especially when playing online with your friends. When you're carefully navigating corridors in Rainbow Six Siege, for example, you'll want to communicate with your team to let them know about dangers ahead. Having a laggy, low-quality mic just isn't going to cut the mustard.

Even when you're on your own, some games deserve to be experienced with high-quality headphones. Red Dead Redemption 2 is a prime example, with a world that comes alive through the sounds that hit you from all around. To truly appreciate these games, you need a quality headset. And EPOS has a range of options available no matter what kind of game you're playing.

The Logitech G432 wired gaming headset can be yours with 50% off at Amazon

Your setup is as only as strong as its weakest link, so there's little point running an all-powerful gaming PC with one of the best graphics cards on the market if your audio experience is lacklustre. Even the best gaming monitors equipped with 4K resolution and 10-bit HDR panels can cut corners on their speakers, resulting in audio that simply doesn't match the quality of your on-screen visuals. Investing in one of the best gaming headsets can help avoid this, and you don't have to spend an arm and a leg to get a quality pair of cans, with the Logitech G432 currently available for half price on Amazon.

You can pick up the Logitech G432 from Amazon US with a 50% discount, bringing it down from its $79.99 list price to just $39.97, netting you a saving of $40.02. That $40 discount is enough to grab one of the best gaming keyboards, if you're after a budget mechanical solution.

Amazon UK shoppers can grab the Logitech G432 for an even higher discount of 57%, lowering the cost from £69.99 to just £29.99, a tidy saving of £40.

How to make money at New World trading posts

Want to know the best way of making money in New World? In MMOs such as World of Warcraft, Guild Wars 2, and Final Fantasy XIV, making vast sums of coin fast takes a bit of time and effort. While there is no way to create a massive pile of coins to swim in (like Scrooge McDuck in DuckTales), you can always buy a big ol' house and fill it with all sorts of fancy furniture.

New World houses are not the only thing you can buy with tons of cash. If you want the best New World weapons, you have to spend some coin on specific resources at any town's trading post - which are shops where players can sell their unwanted equipment and desirable resources to make a profit. There are a couple of ways to make a fortune in New World, and while they're both straightforward to execute, you also need to spend some time doing some rather mundane tasks.

Another way to obtain coins is from quests, so if you get bored of the more repetitive methods outlined below, you can always opt to finish tasks given to you by the townsfolk in each of the towns.

Here's a peek at League of Legends champion Caitlyn's upcoming visual update

League of Legends launched a whopping 12 years ago now, and so, naturally, there'll sometimes be some visual discrepancies between the MOBA game's earliest champions and those released much more recently. To help bring older champions up to the standards of new ones, Riot Games recently announced it would be launching some "art and sustainability updates" - known as ASUs - and we've now got a glimpse at the one coming up for veteran League champion, Caitlyn.

In a clip showcasing the new champion theme for Caitlyn, which is coming up as part of her ASU (below), Riot has also given us a peek at her new look with some updated skin splash art and other visuals that accompany the music. For example, at around the 0:27 mark, you can see the new-style Officer Caitlyn splash art which is a pretty big departure from the existing version.

It's not clear how the updated skin will appear in gameplay just yet, but at the 0:23 mark you can get a look at the character model's concept art, which helps us imagine more easily what the final look will be in-game.

With Halloween behind us, it's time to ask: is the 1st of November too early to put up Christmas lights? Is it a grim sign of ravenous consumerism, or a welcome respite from the watching the year die slowly and painfully in its final months? As I untangled my strings of LED lights this morning, I realised that PC gaming is the most Christmassy of gamings. The colourful LEDs people cram into their PC's every orifice and pore aren't just any decoration, they're Christmas lights. That's their purpose. It always has been. Christmas is year-round for PC gamers. So here it is: merry Christmas.

I almost don't want to tell you what The End Of Dyeus is. Surprise and discovery are among the things I enjoy most in games, and they're too often undermined in the modern age. Damned kids, with your wikis and your hashed tags. It's a first person fighting and exploration game that drops you in a pastoral fantasy world with no instruction beyond "find Dyeus" and some straightforward control explainers. The only thing I dislike is that I have no idea how to pronounce it, dramatically limiting my pun options.

Spooky season might be behind us now, but man, it's still pretty scary out there. My inbox sits at 576 unread emails, and in another tab I'm browsing heated clothes airers; things that I now realise are frighteningly expensive. But it's not just mundane things in real life that give me goosebumps, it now extends to virtual white goods as well.

Right, so, there's this fridge in Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy and no matter how many times I close it, it won't stay shut. At first it was funny, but it's since morphed from a sly chuckle to a howl of agony. My relationship with the game is like that thing Yoda from Star Wars says, "Fear leads to the Dark Side". Well, I'm almost there, let me tell you.

Even though I've been dead excited about Weird West since its announcement last summer, when the time finally came for me to play a preview build last week, I found myself unusually hesitant. Primarily, this was because I loved the game's concept so much ("What if Dishonored and Desperadoes III had a rooting tooting baby, then let it watch way too many horror movies?"), that I didn't really want to face the possibility that developers WolfEye Studios might have fallen short on it. But more than that, I was worried I'd have to… well, make an effort.

For whatever reason, my enthusiasm to start new games has been taking one of its periodic dips over the last month or so, leaving me in the comforting arms of old favourites I can play on autopilot. Time and time again, I'll get right to the point of hitting play on something, before convincing myself - completely unreasonably - that it'll probably be a load of hassle for moderate reward. And however promising a sprawling, top-down immersive sim set in a world of haunted stetsons sounded, I was certain it would involve a lot of fiddling about with inventories, reading long screeds of text, and going on sidequests.

I'm delighted to say, however, that I was completely wrong. Because while Weird West does involve all those things (and features even more emergent complexity than the hefty dose I'd anticipated, to boot) I have not had a smoother time getting into a game in a long while. The build I played only featured one of the game's five character campaigns, admittedly. But unless the other four are all set in a Tesco car park or something, I can heartily recommend it to you.

The reason I enjoy Riot's FPS Valorant so much is because it has an excellent mixture of fun abilities and tactical gunplay, which is why I'm not sure what to make of its new character. I hope you like animosity. Darkest Dungeon 2 will eat your eyes and call you selfish for wanting them back. The ferocity with which it treats its players shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who clawed their way through the crypts of the first Darkest Dungeon, a turn-based homage to Lovecraft and slow-acting poison. It especially won't surprise anyone who bled their way through the early access version of that game, either. A lot of the difficulty and madness in the sequel comes not from the dangerous creatures along its roguelike turnpike, but from the roughly shorn design of a road trip yet to be completed. This is a faithfully despondent, sometimes frustrating journey of attrition, decay and distrust. A journey you should maybe put off until the wobblesome wagon has all its wheels tightened.

new Call of Duty rumors leakIt was only back in September when rumors began detailing a new Call of Duty game, codenamed Project Cortez, which is looking like a sequel to Modern Warfare. Like all rumors, this should all be taken with a grain of salt. However, considering the pedigree of some of the sources making these claims, don't be surprised if they come true. Today, apparently more information on the hinted-on the game has come out. In a report, a new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 leak has surfaced, describing a "grim" game with loads of violence and "realistic gore." The new Modern Warfare is reportedly being developed by Infinity Ward, meaning the studio has had about three years' time to work on the title. And, if the leak rings true, radical changes have been planned for the new Call of Duty game. As spotted by VGC, the source, @RalphsValve on Twitter, says Modern Warfare 2 will have a morality system similar to Red Dead Redemption 2, where choices change some outc...

Halo Infinite New Map Streets New Mombasa 3343 Industries and Microsoft have been going on a marketing overdrive for Halo Infinite ahead of its December launch. After showing off a new and improved campaign trailer last week, today 343 introduced something on the multiplayer side. As presented by IGN, a new Halo Infinite video demonstrates the new arena map, Streets, which shows off the city of New Mombasa at night. The multiplayer level designer for 343, Cayle George, gives us the tour. Running nearly 10 minutes, the video walkthrough shows off a level designed with winding streets (oh, I get it), multiple staircases, and tall buildings with tons of vantage points. It's a different look for New Mombasa than what I think Halo fans know. Neon lights and signs adorn the buildings. Flickering advertisements and restaurant names give Streets an almost cyberpunk motif. There's even an arcade present, in which plays a retro Halo theme. It looks great, but there's no telling how it will play just yet.   Stree...
