League of Legends Arcane reviews – our roundup of the scores

The first League of Legends animated series, Arcane, has finally launched on Netflix after being announced over two years ago. While only the first three episodes are out fans and critics alike appear to be in love with the show, and it currently sits on a near-perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes.

League of Legends: Arcane is dropping in three "acts" over the course of November, with the first three episodes out now on Netflix and the following six episodes hitting over the course of the next two weeks. This is a big deal for developer Riot Games, which has been arranging various cross-game celebrations - even going so far as to partner with a beauty outlet.

The publisher must be relieved, then, because the initial reviews from fans and critics alike regarding Arcane's first episodes have been universally praiseworthy. This thread on Reddit commending the episodes has 10.8k upvotes and over a thousand comments at the time of writing, with the initial commenter calling it "truly ground-breaking".

Fortnite 18.40 won't release next week as planned

It seems like the Fortnite 18.40 release date has been pushed back and won't launch this week as previously thought. Fortnite v18.40 will now land a week later on November 16 instead - and apparently it will also be the last update of Chapter 2 Season 8 before it concludes next month.

Fortnite version 18.30 was released at the end of October and brought with it the invasion by the Cube Queen - who can also be earned as a free skin by completing various missions - and the transformation of the centre of the island's map into the Convergence.

It was presumed that the game's next patch, version 18.40, would drop next week - on November 9. However, according to reliable Fortnite leaker iFireMonkey on Twitter that might not be the case. Epic had previously stated that the upcoming Accolades device for Fortnite content creators - to help players better earn XP in Creative modes - would be available in the 18.40 update. Now the Accolades webpage says that it's not available until November 16 - which is also a patch day for Fortnite.

The greatest Star Wars trailer of all time is now available in 4K

BioWare's MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic has been running for almost ten years now, but for many Star Wars fans it peaked before it even came out with its incredible announcement trailer "Deceived". Now, in advance of the MMO's latest expansion and its tenth anniversary, BioWare has finally reuploaded the best Star Wars trailer of all time in glorious 4K.

"Deceived" was actually the official announcement trailer for The Old Republic, debuting at E3 2009 to thunderous applause. It's a CGI-only trailer with no in-game footage and was created by the masters at Blur Studio - who more recently created the excellent trailer for the Fable reboot with the frog eating the fairy, which is still the most we've seen of that game.

Blur created several excellent CGI trailers for The Old Republic, mostly telling the story of the MMO's most memorable villain Darth Malgus - who is rumoured to be possibly making his last appearance in this year's new expansion Legacy of the Sith.

Red Alert 2 fan expansion over 15 years in the making is finally complete

The impressive Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 fan expansion 'Mental Omega' is finally complete - after over 15 years in development. The project for one of the best RTSs on PC adds over 100 missions and a new faction in a campaign that "retells, expands and continues" Red Alert 2's story.

Red Alert 2: Mental Omega first popped up as one of ModDB's top mods of 2006 and the team has been working on it ever since, with sporadic updates being released over the last 15 years. Version 3.3 was the last significant release and that came out back in 2016, adding the new faction called the Foehn Revolt - a more technology-focused side where the player's character is actually an AI.

Now the expansion's final update, version 3.3.6, is available to download - adding the last few missions to the four campaigns - Soviet, Allied, Yuri, and Foehn Revolt. The expansion boasts 97 single-player missions, 36 co-op maps, and 22 challenge maps. There are updated visuals, new units, multiplayer support through CnCNet, and a new soundtrack - although it'll be tough to beat the original's.

The KOTOR animated series is delayed but is getting a Darth Malak spin-off

Earlier this year we reported that one of the best Star Wars games ever, Knights of the Old Republic, was getting a fan-made Unreal 5 animated series made with Lucasfilm's blessing. It was originally supposed to start in October but the shock reveal of a KOTOR remake has meant that the animated series is being delayed - but there are spin-offs coming first.

The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic animated series is being made in Unreal 5 by the fans in Unreal Cinema, which was given the thumbs-up by Lucasfilm as long as it's non-profit and doesn't use footage from the movies. The big reveal back in August was the cast list and a targeted release date for the first episode of mid-October.

Clearly that didn't happen, and in their latest video (below) Unreal Cinema confirms that "due to the announcement of the remake" and a few other factors the KOTOR Unreal series has been delayed - but they do confirm "the series will still be continuing as planned" and isn't cancelled.
