Hearts of Iron 4 fans mark the end of current division meta with meme templates

Hearts of Iron IV's No Step Back expansion and free 1.11 update are coming next week, and I've not felt as excited about an expansion in a long while. One of the stated goals of the incoming content is to shake up the strategy game's fairly stale combat meta, where designing divisions for your armies has been reduced to a fairly clinical set of optimum choices.

The initial bones of this change can be seen in the recent patch notes, where the combat width for different types of provinces is changing. This means the old 40/20 meta (where you would build divisions of either 40 combat width or 20 combat width) is officially no more. Players have been celebrating this impending changing of the guard by sharing their favourite meme division templates.

User Comander-07 on the Hearts of Iron IV subreddit has shared an absolute beast of a template, which has a combat width of 60 and features ten battalions of super-heavy tanks (and 15 infanty battallions), which they have called 'Big Chungus'. You'd only need two of them to completely dominate a battle, although the resource requirements to actually build and maintain one would be crippling to most economies.

Microsoft Flight Simulator World Update 7 is all about Australia

Microsoft Flight Simulator developer Asobo Studio has revealed what's coming with the plane game's next big World Update - and the answer will be heading down under. Head of Microsoft Flight Sim Jorg Neumann has revealed in the studio's latest dev livestream that World Update VII will be all about Australia.

"Some of you, because you pay attention, saw that we actually skipped a World Update," Neumann says in the stream (below). He explains that the team was thinking about launching one in October, but with so much else going on - the Xbox version, Game of the Year edition, and Reno Air Races DLC, for example - the devs thought, "let's skip one and we'll bring out World Update VII." Neumann confirms that World Update VII launches on January 25 and that, with a drum roll-style buildup for effect, this'll be focussing on enhancing Australia through various means.

"As always, we have a ton of POIs, we've got new DEM [digital elevation model] which is really cool, new aerials, and, in this case, what's also really nice is the big maps team had a ton of city data, so we are busy crunching photogrammetry data right now." Neumann adds that the team doesn't "quite know yet how many cities we can have", but he explains that they've "prioritised them" and, excitingly, adds that, "the one thing I'm pretty sure of is it's going to be more 3D cities than we've had probably in any other World Update, which is neat." Neat indeed.

Best Black Friday gaming chair deals

Gaming chairs are arguably one of the most important parts of any gaming desk setup. Sure, finding the best gaming monitor, best gaming keyboard, and best gaming mouse during Black Friday might be more of a PC gaming priority, but ultimately, a reliable seat will help you stay in the game for longer. Of course, while ergonomics are important, there's no reason why you can't also be stylish and economical while purchasing a new gaming chair for your caboose this Black Friday.

Unlike traditional seats, there's a lot to consider when it comes to choosing a gaming chair. From premium materials to fancy features and customisation, ones designed for lengthy gaming sessions are worlds apart from their four-legged ancestors. Naturally, this also means that you'll need to consider various brands across a range of different price points.

If your current setup is subtle and efficient, you'll have no trouble finding a chair that screams practicality during Black Friday. However, if you're a fan of Razer, Corsair, and Logitech products, you'll also be able to stay faithful to the bold look of your favourite gaming PC brands.

Halo Infinite's co-op campaign isn't arriving until May 2022 at best

343 Industries may be launching Halo Infinite's campaign next month, but you're going to be waiting a while if you want to play it with friends. Speaking to Eurogamer, 343 Industries head of creative Joseph Staten confirms that the goal remains to launch campaign co-op in Season 2, even if the team has pushed it back to May 2022. By the same token, Forge may not release until summer either, as the team is hoping to have it out in Season 3.

"At the time that we talked about campaign co-op and Forge I said our goal is to ship campaign co-op in Season 2 and our goal is to ship Forge with Season 3," Staten explains. "Yes, we are extending Season 1. So our goal still remains what I said before, which is to ship campaign co-op with Season 2 and Forge with Season 3. But those remain goals. Those remain targets. And we can't commit to any hard dates right now, because as we're seeing with this multiplayer beta, other things might move up in the priority stack for us.

"If it turns out that our progression system just isn't working the way that we intended, if we need to move some of these bigger rocks sooner, then we as a team will make those decisions and will clearly communicate to our fans why we're why we're doing certain things."

The Babylon's Fall beta is promising: why am I still not excited for it?

The re-emergence of Babylon's Fall at E3 this year probably didn't rank among your show highlights. I had to double-check if it actually happened; it was that unmemorable. The idea of the Nier: Automata developers creating a live service game is one of the main bugbears of fans - the E3 2021 trailer has a like to dislike ratio of 1:6 - but the blurry visuals and plodding gameplay did little to temper concerns. The good news is that Platinum Games has remedied some of these issues for Babylon's Fall's recent beta, but I can't really say it did much to get me excited for the upcoming PC game.

The clearest improvement in the beta is that the murky, muddy visuals have been cleared up considerably. A Babel-esque structure looms in the distance as you enter Babylon's Fall's central hub, blending into the horizon like a medieval oil painting. The shops and vendors of the Sentinel Force HQ that make up your more immediate vicinity are much clearer in contrast, and I didn't find myself reaching to wipe my screen as I did with the E3 trailer. The stylised, painterly aesthetic remains, but now you can actually see the gorgeous structures that make up the world.

Accepting a quest from the town's mission board sends me to the grandiose ziggurat in the distance. It was once home to the Babylonians, but is now besieged by a new empire that seeks to claim its treasure. You play as a new breed of superhuman soldier called a Sentinel, sent to unwillingly pillage a lost civilisation of its treasure at the behest of the Domitinian Empire. The relic implanted in your back - called the Gideon Coffin - grants you instant access to four different weapons, with each weapon assigned to its own button prompt. This General Grievous-inspired twist on combat keeps combat feeling fresh, and I had a blast slashing, bludgeoning, smashing, and piercing enemies, often in the same flurry of attacks.

Nvidia GeForce Now comes to LG TVs, but nerfs the RTX 3080 tier

GeForce Now is a force to be reckoned with, one that recently transformed an old phone box into something that can run Crysis. Yet, while the green team's red, RGB-clad project feels both slightly redundant and requires leaving the comfort of your living room, a new partnership with LG means your TV could also now be a gaming PC.

Compatible with select 2021 LG OLED, QNED Mini LED, and NanoCell sets, the new GeForce Now WebOS app provides users with access to a plethora of PC games. However, the software's beta status comes with 60fps 1080p limitations, meaning the experience won't make full use of new RTX 3080 memberships. You also can't use a gaming keyboard and mouse in-game, something that's sure to niggle hardcore PC gamers. That said, using gaming desk peripherals from your couch isn't ideal in the first place, unless you invest in something like Corsair's K63 lapboard.

LG's take on GeForce Now streaming might seem lacklustre compared to its cloud-capable Windows and Android counterparts, but built-in PC game convenience could help Nvidia's stream service shine. Sure, gaming TVs aren't anything new, but the green team could succeed where products like Samsung's PlayStation Now compatible set have seemingly failed. Although, let's be honest; the best all-in-one gaming screen is still that weird Sony Bravia with a PS2 bolted onto the bottom.

Rust gets a permanent in-game store with

Rust has just got a new feature that lets you pick up "premium" cosmetics around the clock, without worrying that limited-time windows will expire before you can nab them. The survival game has now got a permanent in-game store featuring items and skins that are always available to buy - and Facepunch has released a new batch of stuff to kick things off, too.

"We've found over the years that players really value being able to choose different skins and items to enjoy Rust, like the Spacesuit hazmat skin, or fun seasonal stuff like Christmas lights or fireworks packs," the studio announces in a news post. "We're also very aware that Rust has grown in popularity but many new players won't be aware that they have these options." The idea behind launching this new range of evergreen offerings is to have a core range of cosmetics that all players can "buy and use to have more fun with Rust", regardless of when they started with the game.

Additionally, the devs view the store as a way to experiment with cosmetics that they reckon players might dig, and a good place to stick them. The post explains that the Rust team often has ideas for new items and skins but doesn't have an obvious outlet for them, with some not being "big enough to justify a DLC pack" or in-keeping with a monthly update's theme.

Borderlands 3 update adds final Vault Card to the Director's Cut edition

Borderlands 3 has got its final Vault Card of the Director's Cut edition as part of a new update. The latest slice of content arrived alongside other bits and bobs on November 18, so it should be waiting for you when you boot the game up.

Vault Cards give you more loot and experience while active, with each drop adhering to the theme of the card itself. The first Vault Card, Fallen Heroes, was a tribute to some of the game's gone-but-not-forgotten allies. The third and final Vault Card is called Bunker Masters, and it's up for grabs now if you own the Director's Cut add-on.

It's not all about the Director's Cut edition, though. If you head to the Proving Grounds maps, you'll find a switch that enables the True Trials event. You'll still be gunning down foes in the name of loot, but you'll find that the final bosses have received huge buffs to their health and damage. Crazy Earl's Shop has three new Echo Device skins if you fancy wearing something new to the mayhem.

The ongoing chip shortage is now affecting gaming RAM prices and availability

It's been a rough couple of years for anyone wanting to buy the best graphics cards, as the ongoing chip shortage has dramatically affected availability, resulting in grossly inflated prices for even entry level GPUs. It's bad enough that Intel and Nvidia CEOs reckon this could carry on throughout next year, but now the best gaming RAM has also fallen victim to the shortage.

Intel's new Alder Lake processors are the first desktop processors to support DDR5 RAM, but a report by 12chip (via Wccftech) suggests that anyone looking to upgrade their gaming PC with team blue's CPUs will have a hard time finding a single stick of memory.

The reason for the shortage appears to be caused by the PMIC (power management integrated circuits) on DDR5 RAM. While PMIC chips have been used on previous memory standards, DDR5 moves power management away from the motherboard and onto the memory module itself, which requires a new version of the part.

Within 60 seconds I was dead and laughing. Halo Infinite's multiplayer is a finely tuned mechanism for delivering explosions and dopamine. Developers 343 Industries did whatever the opposite of a jumpscare is this week, delighting deathmatch dilly-dalliers with a surprise release of their classical arena shooter. It's a beta, they insist. But we all know it's the proper game because they've had their betas already (excuse me, "flights").

Also, look, this thing is impeccable. Clean, powerful shots trace across immaculate skyboxes, straight into the shining dome of your armoured clunkperson, with a frightening thud that is satisfying even in death. There are problems, of course, but most reside outside the actual shootouts, which are frenetic, zappy confrontations longtime Halo players will savour.

Back when Black Friday was only just revving up its deals engines, I asked you – the lovely RPS readership – to tell us about your hardware. And it turns out that just like in 2019, your collective favourite gaming mouse is the Logitech G502. Truly, a timeless classic of clicks and scrolls.

Of course, the G502 has come in a few different flavours, but you can now get one of the most recent models at the lowest price it's ever been (at least in the UK). Amazon has the Logitech G502 SE Hero for £34: an entire pound less than the standard G502 Hero has ever dipped to, most recently during Prime Day 2021.

US denizens aren't missing out either, as the G502 SE Hero is $33 at Best Buy in their own Black Friday sale. That's not quite as cheap as its all-time low of $28, but its still a very good price on a very good mouse. The G502 SE Hero is essentially the classic G502 Hero with some white go-faster stripes – there's been no funny business making adverse changes to keep the costs down.

Nvidia DLSS 2.3 gamesNvidia DLSS 2.3 went live the other day and is already in place in 16 games. If you're wondering how the latest implementation does in some of these titles, we've put together a little showcase to see several examples in one place. The below side-by-side images show all available DLSS settings as well as DLSS switched off. I also labeled each with the average framerate I got out of that scene. Additionally, all side-by-sides were created using the latest version of Nvidia's ICAT image comparison app. Cyberpunk 2077 For Cyberpunk 2077, I used the area directly outside V's apartment. On an RTX 3090, the framerate tends to drop to the mid-50s or even the high 40s in larger areas. For whatever reason, DLSS does little to mitigate these framerate drops, as I noticed only paltry increases. Or no increases at all, for that matter. Huh. That's not normal.
