Kotaku Saturday, November 27, 2021 5:30 PM In the original Jurassic Park film, Ian Malcolm has a famous monologue criticizing the park and its very existence. Kotaku Saturday, November 27, 2021 2:00 PM Halo Infinite's early multiplayer launch on Nov. 15 was a fun surprise and in the time since then the general response to the beta has been favorable. But, the free-to-play shooter's battle pass has been heavily criticized for being too slow to level up and filled with crappy rewards. While I can't help you with the… |

PCGamesN Saturday, November 27, 2021 2:25 PM The performance and temperature of your gaming PC go hand-in-hand, as the more you make it sweat, the slower it'll be. Pop a decent cooler on top of one of the best gaming CPUs, however, and you'll have a rig that's ready to run a marathon, whether you're crafting a top-of-the-line system or simply trying to get Halo Infinite to run at more than 60fps. Thankfully, while keeping things frosty can be pricey, there are plenty of CPU cooler deals to be found this Cyber Monday. You have two core options when it comes to picking up a new CPU cooler. The traditional path is to go for an air cooler, which uses a large metal heatsink and fan to disperse heat. Some prefer the best AIO coolers, which run liquid through a closed-loop to keep things cool. These are much easier to install than a custom water-cooling build, and are far flashier than air cooling. Whatever you opt for, you'll likely need to pair your cooling solution with a good set of fans. 120mm should do the trick, fitting inside most PC cases, and Antec has vibrant RGB-clad sets currently on offer. PCGamesN Saturday, November 27, 2021 2:07 PM Whether you're a budding streamer or a veteran used to wowing audiences with your impressive runs of Dark Souls, getting the best capture card to suit your needs is a must. A great capture card can help lower the overhead on your hardware and help you boost your fps, making for a much sleeker, smoother recording or livestreaming experience. Now that Cyber Monday is in full swing, there's a great deal on an Elgato HD60 S+ capture card. Best Buy's Cyber Monday sale has the card for a hearty 25% off, making it $149.99 right now, down from its original price of $199.99. The HD60 S+ lets you play all your favourite, high-fidelity PC games (or console games, for our friends on Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch) in 4K60fps HDR while getting some high quality capture - 1080p60fps HDR10 quality, in fact, which isn't shabby at all. There's a range of capture resolutions to chose from, from standard resolution (480p) up to 4K30fps. The gadget connects easily to PCs and consoles through HDMI and it offers a range of options to let you improve the quality of your stream, and add some neat effects, too. It's also got a USB type-C port, which should make it easy enough to record footage to your hard drive, directly. RELATED LINKS: Best SSD for gaming, How to build a gaming PC, Best gaming CPU |
PCGamesN Saturday, November 27, 2021 1:39 PM The negative reaction from fans to the first Halo Infinite campaign demo back in July 2020 apparently caused the complete creative shake-up at developer 343 Industries, with multiple creative leads parting, and was also the reason for the game's many delays. Halo Infinite had already lost several high profile developers before 2020, but the poor player reaction to the first-ever campaign gameplay demo - called 'Ascension' - at Xbox's E3 2020 showcase caused the game's director to depart and ex-Bungie writer Joseph Staten to take their place. Speaking with IGN, Staten describes how the demo "didn't land as well as we had hoped" and how his casual offer to help the team turned into "a brand new career" and "a totally different scale of what I thought 'help' might be". Staten joined the Halo Infinite team as head of creative and was apparently the one who insisted on delaying the game after coming on-board and deciding it needed "more time in the oven". PCGamesN Saturday, November 27, 2021 12:29 PM Despite releasing back in 2018, Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition - the re-release of the nearly 20-year-old classic Dungeons & Dragons RPG by BioWare - is still apparently being supported by developer Beamdog, which just released a free official HD texture pack that makes it look better than even Neverwinter Nights 2. Neverwinter Nights released all the way back in 2002 and looks pretty ropey now, which is why Beamdog's Enhanced Edition in 2018 was so welcome - as included improved graphics, effects, and general visual improvements. However, that apparently wasn't enough for the developer, who has been working on a full HD upgrade ever since. Finally, the free "HD Models & Textures Pack" update for Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition has arrived and it has the classic RPG looking a lot more modern. As Beamdog states in a blog post on Steam, this update is the result of "several years of hard work" and clocks in at over 4.1 GB - bringing the game's total disc space requirement to over 16 GB. PCGamesN Saturday, November 27, 2021 1:03 PM Cyber Monday 2021 is in full swing (yes, we know it's Saturday) and there are oodles of deals around on gaming monitors, SSDs, gaming RAM, and - well, all kinds of things. Now, there's an opportunity to pick up a great Cyber Monday gaming PC deal on an Omen 30L desktop that comes with an ever-elusive RTX 3080 graphics card. HP is currently offering an Omen 30L GT13-0380t desktop PC on its site with a decent discount of $100 off. Sure, it's still priced at $2,069.99 as of writing, so it's definitely one for those of you who are after a pretty high-end rig - but, alongside its discounted price, the real draw may be that it contains an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080, the green team's powerful graphics card that's still a wee bit tricky to come by on its own. The PC also boasts a 10th generation Intel Core i7 processor, 8GB memory, and 256 SSD storage. It also comes with Windows 11 Home, so you can hop into Microsoft's next operating system right off the bat. RELATED LINKS: Best SSD for gaming, How to build a gaming PC, Best gaming CPU |
PCGamesN Saturday, November 27, 2021 11:41 AM We don't know if you've heard this, but Steam is incredibly popular. So much so, in fact, that Valve's platform has beat its concurrent all-time user record once again this year - with over 27 million users online at once as of the time of writing. Earlier this year in February, we reported how Steam set a new record for its all-time concurrent user count - which stood at 26 million people all using Steam at the same time. It was all very impressive until it got beat again in April, with the record then standing at 26.9 million concurrent users. Whether bolstered by major new releases such as Halo Infinite's surprise early multiplayer launch or Battlefield 2042, or the start of a particularly exciting Autumn sale which saw Cyberpunk 2077 re-enter the top sellers' list, Steam has now broken the 27 million concurrent user mark. Not only that, it's still climbing, with the count going way over 27.1 million in the last few hours. RELATED LINKS: Steam FAQ, Steam family sharing, Steam in-home streaming |
PCGamesN Saturday, November 27, 2021 11:42 AM Clickety-clack, clickety-clack - the sound of typing on a mechanical gaming keyboard is as satisfying as footsteps in deep, undisturbed snow. That recognisably loud click isn't just meant to be pleasing to the ears: mechanical keyboards are much more reactive than their membrane counterparts. If you've been toying with the idea of treating yourself to an upgrade, then the Razer Ornata Chroma mechanical gaming keyboard is now just $59.99 on Amazon for Cyber Monday. The Razer Ornata Chroma keyboard boasts some pretty impressive features. As a hybrid mechanical keyboard, it uses high-performance mecha-membrane switches that manage to provide all the same tactile feedback that you get from a fully mechanical keyboard, while maintaining the soft-cushioned comfort feeling of membrane switches. It's a very durable piece of hardware, and has been designed to support up to 80 million key presses. It's clear that comfort was a key consideration when this keyboard was designed. Not only does it have an built-in ergonomic wrist rest made of soft leatherette to stop your wrists from getting uncomfortable when you play for extended periods of time, but it also has fully programmable macro support, which enables you to remap all keys and keypress combinations for executing your own complex commands with a single key press. PCGamesN Saturday, November 27, 2021 11:38 AM While high-end gaming laptops were once only attainable by impossibly rich oligarchs, they're now surprisingly affordable, practical, and comparable to their tall, stout desktop counterparts. You can get gaming laptops capable of cranking out hundreds of frames per second in competitive shooters like CS:GO and Rainbow Six Siege, and some are even up to the task of ray tracing for the latest open-world games. The best part is that you don't even need to wait for Cyber Monday to get your hands on one cheaper than usual. These being relatively whopping purchases, there are quite a few different features to consider when browsing for the right gaming laptop. With the GPU being one of the biggest factors in what your laptop will be able to run, and very few options for upgrading it later down the road, this is probably the main factor. Do you want entry-level, mid-range, or a high-end laptop capable of VR gaming? Of course, you also need to think about size, CPU, RAM, and storage size, as these are all tough - or impossible - to upgrade. PCGamesN Saturday, November 27, 2021 11:00 AM While it's undoubtedly not a perfect game, Battlefield 2042 players are having a lot of fun with Specialist MacKay and his unique grapple gun - but now some players are discovering some unique uses for the item, in the form of a new Battlefield 2042 grapple glitch that allows them to attach to smoke and even the weather. In our review of Battlefield 2042, we noted that EA's latest FPS had all the elements needed to be one of the best Battlefield games but was "many updates away from reaching its full potential". The game's certainly had a lot of problems since release and has felt more than a little unfinished, with many glitches, bugs, and even major server errors stopping fans from enjoying themselves. With several major updates due over the next month to fix the worst of Battlefield 2042's problems, it's actually something of a relief to find a glitch that's just generally silly and players are actually having fun with - rather than, say, major performance problems. PCGamesN Saturday, November 27, 2021 1:03 PM Whether you're an MMO fan, an FPS games fiend, a streamer, or you just love the sound of a mechanical keyboard clacking away as you tend your Stardew Valley crops, getting the best gaming keyboard for your needs can make a huge difference to the whole experience. Sure, we have you covered with our roundup of the best Cyber Monday gaming keyboard deals - but there's one particularly sweet saving to be had right now that you might not want to miss. Best Buy has the EVGA Z20 RGB mechanical gaming keyboard on offer for an eye-watering $110 off right now - so, that's a hearty saving of 62% off of its regular price of $174.99. This 'board has optical mechanical switches, and boasts a 32-bit Arm Cortex-M33 core USB microprocessor as well as a 4,000Hz report rate, so it's a powerful little performer. The keyboard's LK light strike optical mechanical switches make it "25% faster than traditional mechanical switches", as its Best Buy store page explains, too. PCGamesN Saturday, November 27, 2021 12:40 PM Cyber Monday 2021 is here, and there are plenty of PC deals out in the wild. Of course, there are plenty of parts that probably deserve an upgrade, but if you had to put your money to one, we recommend grabbing the best gaming keyboard to complete your setup. Better be quick, though, because while some deals last the weekend depending on stock, others are fleeting and only available for the one day. Why exactly should you get a gaming keyboard over the standard beige rectangle dossed around the workplace? Those everyday keyboards can only handle an average of two inputs at once, which can be problematic when you want to dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge out of your enemy's way, throw a grenade, and swap weapons in quick succession. The benefits don't end there either, as gaming keyboards often come with faster response times, comfortable wrist rests, macro keys, media buttons, RGB lighting, a choice of different kinds of switches, and plenty more goodies, too. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Saturday, November 27, 2021 1:51 PM Well, chums, Black Friday itself has been and gone. I'm still here though, highlighting deals for you, because we're in deals season now and the ride is going to continue all through to Christmas and the New Year beyond! The whole Black Friday phenomenon is very weird if you're old enough to predate online shopping and not from the USA. Feels like just yesterday that everyone was terrified of using their credit cards online, Amazon was just a book shop and Thanksgiving was just something you only heard of on American TV shows. Now it's another huge American export, allowing retailers to extend their discounting shenanigans for a whole extra month. The worst thing about it is that our colonial cousins keep some of the best bargains for themselves, as is the case with this Razer BlackWidow V3 mechanical keyboard. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Saturday, November 27, 2021 11:25 AM As those of you who have been hiding behind my sofa, or just read our "What are we all buying this Black Friday?" article, are aware, the top item on my Black Friday shopping list was a new chair. I did manage to procure a solid bottom-rest at a good discount and I'm very happy with my purchase. Unfortunately, it still cost a good chunk of change, leaving me with much less to spend on my recently rediscovered Warhammer habit. Luckily for anyone still looking for somewhere to park their behind while gaming, you can get your hands (cheeks?) on a Razer Iskur gaming chair worth £500 for free. You do have to buy a laptop first though. |
