Here's what the most expensive Steam Deck case looks like

Valve's handheld gaming console the Steam Deck is almost here, and the team has already begun showing off the various carry cases and boxes the gaming PC will come with. Now it's the turn of the Steam Deck 512GB model - the most expensive version - and the exclusive case customers will be getting for their money.

Despite the release date of the Steam Deck being delayed by two months to February 2022 - and that's just for pre-order customers, let alone anyone trying to buy one now - Valve has already begun sharing looks at the console's packaging. This includes a box featuring a few Portal Easter eggs and the neat carry case it comes with.

Now it's the turn of the most expensive edition of the Steam Deck, the 512GB model - which, as the website notes, features an "exclusive carry case" - which at first glance is similar to the ones that come with the other models. As Valve notes on the reveal page, all Steam Deck cases "are functionally identical" - but the 512GB model features "cosmetic differences".

Alien meets BioShock horror Scorn will be out in a year's time

It's been a long time since we've heard anything on Scorn, the horror FPS inspired by the twisted works of Alien movie designer H.R. Giger. Finally, the Kickstarter-backed atmospheric shooter has had its release date confirmed - but it won't be out until October 2022.

Nightmarish horror adventure Scorn was announced all the way back in November 2014, suffered an unsuccessful Kickstarter, re-announced in 2016 before going to Kickstarter once again in 2017, where it raised €192,487 - over €40K more than its goal. Aside from an impressive gameplay demo running on next-gen hardware in 2020, there hasn't been much on Scorn leaking out - let alone a possible release date.

Now, finally, developer Ebb Software has confirmed exactly when players are going to be able to experience the gross, fleshy world of Scorn - and it might not be as soon as anyone hoped. In Ebb's latest Kickstarter update, the team confirms that Scorn will be officially launching in October 2022 - eight years after it was originally announced.

Evil Dead: The Game is bringing back more of the series' original actors

Evil Dead: The Game is apparently bringing back a few more of the original actors from the classic 1981 movie. According to series star Bruce Campbell, the actors behind The Evil Dead's Cheryl Williams and Scotty are returning to voice their characters in the game - over 40 years later.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of The Evil Dead, the original movie in the horror franchise directed by Sam Raimi (Spider-Man, Doctor Strange 2). While sadly the upcoming Evil Dead: The Game was forced to miss its release in 2021 due to various reasons, it'll apparently be bringing back multiple classic actors from the series' 40-year history.

Leading man Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams was always on board - he accidentally announced the game early, after all - and it's been previously confirmed that both Ray Santiago (Pablo Bolivar) and Dana DeLorenzo (Kelly Maxwell) from the recent Ash vs Evil Dead TV series would be reprising their roles too. Now it seems like two more actors from the original 1981 movie are coming back too.

Rainbow Six-like Ready or Not is hitting early access this month

While Ubisoft's Rainbow Six: Siege goes from strength to strength, many fans may be hungering for the classic Rainbow Six or SWAT tactical FPS vibes that Ready or Not is planning to provide. Now, four and half years since it was announced, Ready or Not's early access release has been confirmed as coming this month.

Ready or Not is tactical FPS made as a spiritual successor to classic Rainbow Six and SWAT games which was announced way back in May 2017. Developed by VOID Interactive, earlier this year it was announced that Ready or Not would be published by Team 17 - as well as confirmed that it would launch in Steam Early Access first.

Cut to now, and VOID Interactive has finally confirmed that Ready or Not will hit early access this month - albeit, by the sounds of it, a little earlier than the team would've liked. While an early "supporter edition" of Ready of Not has already been released, VOID apparently couldn't persuade Steam to provide more keys for this version of the game without going live - so that's what the team is going to do.

The first Halo Infinite Slayer playlist is coming this week

After a lot of feedback and criticism - some constructive, some not - Halo Infinite multiplayer will be adding dedicated Slayer playlists this week. The first Halo Infinite Slayer playlist will be available as soon as this Tuesday, December 14, and will include four variants - with more to come "in a future update".

Halo Infinite's multiplayer side surprise-launched in beta back in November to general acclaim, but there's been growing criticism about several features - or the lack of them, in the case of dedicated Slayer-focused playlists. Earlier this month, 343 Industries community staff confirmed that Slayer playlists were indeed being worked on and were being pushed to arrive "before the end of the year".

In a new update this weekend, community director Ske7ch confirmed that four new playlists - Slayer, Fiesta, Free-For-All, and Tactical Slayer (SWAT) - would all be added via a game update this coming Tuesday, December 14. The first Slayer playlist will be a straightforward one as more advanced options won't be "ready in time to deploy before the holiday break".

German developer Monokel are the new kids on the block, entering the fray with their first project, White Shadows. These are probably the game's I hate reviewing the most because criticising any new developer trying to enter the scene with something cool and different feels like running up to a child and punching them in the kidney. But as I always I write reviews with the player in mind, not the developer. White Shadows is certainly unique and a hell of a debut for a new company in many regards. It shows incredible artistic strength. The gameplay just isn't up to par, however. So let's jump into this.
