Kotaku Monday, December 13, 2021 8:30 PM I wrote in January that Assassin's Creed Valhalla was too damn long, and that was before two whole expansions were released for it over the course of this year. Now the game is getting another one, as well as some missions for its predecessor Assassin's Creed Odyssey as well. |
Kotaku Monday, December 13, 2021 7:15 PM So, Battlefield 2042, huh. People sure have opinions about Battlefield 2042. In fact you could drive a main battle tank through the divide between a lot of the critical and popular reaction to DICE's latest, the first modern (or in this case near-modern) Battlefield since 2013's Battlefield 4. |
Kotaku Monday, December 13, 2021 6:30 PM Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon is one of those games where all of the obvious ways to describe its constituent parts don't do them, or it, justice. It's a falling-block match game in which you score more gems by chaining together more and more of the same enemy . It's a roguelite in which you unlock different weapons… |
Kotaku Monday, December 13, 2021 5:19 PM December 13, 2021 may go down in history as the day the PlayStation 4 finally got blown wide open, as a trio of console hackers just released a new, ready-to-run kernel exploit for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro that works on firmware version 9.00 and earlier. PCGamesN Monday, December 13, 2021 6:58 PM While we've sadly missed out on an actual new Metroid as PC gamers this year, the indie scene continues to provide intriguing new entries in the world's greatest videogame genre slash level design ethos. Metroidvania Aeterna Noctis has made a strong impression in trailers and screenshots thanks to its striking hand drawn art, and it's finally set to launch this week. Aeterna Noctis launches across Steam, the Epic Games Store, and PlayStation 5 on December 15 at a price of $29.99 / €29.99. If you've missed our previous highlight of Aeterna Noctis, it's a side-scrolling action game where you take control of the King of Darkness, who must explore a world made up of 16 interconnected areas in an effort to take on the Queen of Light. The game's difficulty level scales as you progress to keep you on your toes, and the action footage in the trailers suggests that the combat is fast, fluid, and snappy. The hand-drawn art looks gorgeous in motion, too. |
PCGamesN Monday, December 13, 2021 6:54 PM Fortnite Winterfest 2021 has been confirmed, as Epic has sent out some early details alongside a package for content creators. Winterfest will return on December 16 after a minor game update on December 14. "The festivities kick off on December 16 with Sgt Winters barreling around the island in his custom big rig, bringing 14 days of presents, frosty fresh items, special challenges, tons of new Creative experiences, and lots more," as Epic says in a Christamas card received by YouTuber Tabor Hill. The 19.01 update on December 14 at 12am PST / 3am EST / 8am GMT will prepare the way for Winterfest, and it's likely that event challenges will leak after downtime wraps up. But some leaks have already arrived. iFireMonkey reports some details about Winterfest 2021 Cabin in Creative, which will link to at least seven Creative maps during the event, including zone wars, gun game, free-for-all, prop hunt, and deathrun modes. PCGamesN Monday, December 13, 2021 5:25 PM Project Zomboid is secretly one of the best zombie games ever made, and it's been in Early Access since 2013. That doesn't mean it's lacked attention: developer The Indie Stone has continuously put out updates that have filled out the game immensely over the years. Today, however, the small studio announced a particularly big one: the latest test build includes Project Zomboid's long-awaited multiplayer servers. The mode is currently available only in a test branch - The Indie Stone says it still needs a lot of polish, and it's been an incredibly complex project for such a small team to undertake. However, the studio says wider player testing will help tighten up the latest version of the game, and it's invited everyone to give the new build a try. Multiplayer Zomboid supports up to 16 players, dedicated servers, and co-op play. The new build also includes a huge update to the map, which originally was set in and around Westpoint and Valley Station, Kentucky, but now includes parts of Louisville to the north. The developers describe the new map as "like silly huge", which will help support the additional players. |
PCGamesN Monday, December 13, 2021 3:40 PM Pull out those tactical ugly Christmas sweaters, because Rainbow Six Siege is kicking off another snowball fight. This year, the multiplayer game is throwing a new twist on the holiday limited time event by making it an intensely icy capture the flag mode. The Snow Brawl is a fairly traditional capture the flag mode with respawn enabled. You'll be armed with unlimited snowballs as your primary weapon, but you'll have a punchy Snowblast Launcher ready in the secondary slot. Three hits downs a player, and they'll have to head back to respawn. There are boosts scattered around the map, which - appropriately - is a heavily modified spin on Chalet. Standard CTF rules apply: the object is to snatch the flag from the opposing team's base and return it to your own home without being downed. Your team earns a point each time they successfully steal the opposing flag, and the team with the most points when time runs out is the winner. In the case of a tie, there's a sudden-death overtime round. RELATED LINKS: Rainbow Six Siege Year 5 operators, Best Rainbow Six Siege operators, Play Rainbow Six Siege |
PCGamesN Monday, December 13, 2021 2:35 PM When I went to space, I learned that yeast comes from thistles. I also learned that if you stand still for five seconds, bears will show up and attack you. I preferred the first lesson. Fortunately, your employer, the United Development Agency, has furnished you with a protective spacesuit for your arrival on Icarus, a terraformed celestial body that's rich with natural resources. Unfortunately, it can only stand up to a couple of swipes from a bear before you're left unconscious and bleeding out like a stuck pig. Criminal negligence, exploitation, and faceless corporations are par for the course in space games, but the UDA isn't interested in anything nefarious aside from harvesting as many exotic materials from Icarus as it possibly can. The company just wants you to survive on the planet for long enough to realise its goals, and if you can't, then its losses ought to be minimal. Your first few tasks will be familiar if you've played a few survival games before: craft some rudimentary tools, harvest some basic food, dig up some shiny rocks, and dream of the day when you can build a hovel to call your own. There's not much in the way of gimmicks on Icarus; it's just you and the planet, and the planet wants you dead. |
PCGamesN Monday, December 13, 2021 6:54 PM Dawn of Ragnarok was officially announced today, but that's not the only bit of news Ubisoft has of Assassin's Creed fans. This week, a bit of free DLC will hit both Odyssey and Valhalla, introducing a two-part story in which Kassandra and Eivor meet. Ubisoft is billing this under the title 'Assassin's Creed Crossover Stories', hinting that there are more such stories to come. Those Who Are Treasured will be the new story in Odyssey, and it will have Kassandra (or Alexios, if you chose the apparently non-canon gender) traveling to the island of Korfu. This takes place in the aftermath of the Odyssey story, though you only have to complete the game's first chapter to play the content - so fair warning if you're just starting out and are mindful of spoilers. (There's a free weekend for Odyssey running December 16-19, by the way.) Then, A Fated Encounter picks up the story in Valhalla, and features Eivor coming face-to-face with Kassandra (but not Alexios). Here, Eivor heads to the Isle of Skye in Scotland. You'll be able to get in as long as you've completed the 'A Wise Friend' quest which establishes Valka in your camp. PCGamesN Monday, December 13, 2021 6:55 PM Assassin's Creed Valhalla's next big DLC has been announced, after numerous leaks over the past few months. But now, it's official: Dawn of Ragnarok launches in March 2022, and Ubisoft is calling this the "most ambitious expansion in franchise history". Given the price, which hearkens back to the full expansion pack pricing of old games, it probably should be. Dawn of Ragnarok launches on March 10, 2022 for $39.99 / £34.99. You will play as Odin, equipped with a range of divine powers to defend the dwarven kingdom of Svartalfheim. Baldr - Odin's son - has been imprisoned by the fire giant Surtr, so you'll have some personal stakes to push you through the story, too. As always, Ubisoft has some incentives to get you to purchase early. Pre-orders will get you immediate access to the Twilight Pack, which includes a range of appropriately-apocalyptic looking cosmetics, including a fiery look for Synin and what appears to be a flaming wolf mount. (It doesn't look like it's actually Fenrir, though.) RELATED LINKS: Assassin's Creed Valhalla review, How long is Assassin's Creed Valhalla?, Buy Assassin's Creed Valhalla |

Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, December 13, 2021 4:41 PM Assassin's Creed Valhalla is getting a second year of updates, and alongside a major new expansion comes two crossover missions in which Valhalla's Eivor will meet Assassin's Creed Odyssey protagonist Kassandra. The missions will be available for free tomorrow, with one available in each game. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, December 13, 2021 4:22 PM Ever wanted to stick your pick deep into the centre of an octopus? How about a bug or a barnacle? If none of that tickles your pick(le)s you could try a keyhole which twists dimensions? Or perhaps one with a steampunk or frost-bitten feel? If literally any of that got your immersion senses tingling then three Skyrim modders have something for you. Creating a cache of realistic looking catches, they have brought the Dragonborn what they've been desperate for; a more riveting lockpicking experience. While the mods only change the aesthetics and not the function of how Skyrim's lock picking minigame works, the awkward uniformity of Skyrim's lock looks has always been quite odd. Modders under the usernames "Kreis", "wSkeever", and "powerofthree" must have thought the same. Why would a chest you found underwater look the same as one created by the insect-obsessed Falmer? It's preposterous! But now it no longer needs to be. Thanks to the appropriately titled Security Overhaul SKSE - Lock Variations and Security Overhaul SKSE - Add-ons mods, you will never have to pick the nondescript again. Now you can enjoy the artisanal tastes of up to 11 uniquely designed locks to immerse you in Skyrim's universe. |

PC Invasion - FeedDDD Monday, December 13, 2021 7:45 PM Peter Molyneux made quite the name for himself during the 1990s and 2000s, and not without good reason. He helped develop a number of popular and even influential games, such as Magic Carpet and Dungeon Keeper, and he earned particular praise and respect for the Fable series. Recently though, he has slowed down his output considerably. The most recent projects by his studio, 22cans, never managed to leave Early Access. Some may initially become excited, however, to hear that Molyneux soon plans to put out his first new game since 2017. Unfortunately, this new game, which will come out sometime next year, may not represent "the great Peter Molyneux comeback" that many may have hoped for, as it seems to exist mainly to take advantage of the recent NFT and blockchain phenomenon. Molyneux's new game, titled Legacy, apparently serves as "an opportunity for players to build their very own business, designing their very own products from a huge array of possibilitie... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Monday, December 13, 2021 7:30 PM Fans of body horror rejoice (I guess?), Scorn has been confirmed for a release window of October 2022. That is, it's confirmed for all those who plan on picking up the game following its developer's recent meltdown. The game was previously scheduled for a December launch. But back in November, Ebb Software announced a delay tinged with, well, scorn. Regardless, the game is still on track, and will appear on PC in less than a year. Scorn has been a very long time coming. First announced with a Kickstarter campaign back in 2014, it failed its initial goals. It did, however, find an investor, and Ebb powered on for quite a few years. At last, everything seemed to line up, and the team revealed a PC launch during an Inside Xbox stream back in May this year. It did get delayed, however, proving that the road of development is long, windy, and full of speed bumps. But, at last, Scorn got a release window paired with a trailer late last week. To celebrate, Ebb published ... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Monday, December 13, 2021 7:00 PM It's always a bit of a battle to keep ahead of the curve when it comes to new motherboards and chipsets. The plot has thickened now that Twitter user @momomo_us, who has a history of leaking new tidbits concerning hardware, has dropped a treasure trove of information today regarding over 50 brand new Intel budget B660 and H-series motherboard models that we're hearing about for the first time. They've broken this information up between five of the biggest manufacturers, including ASUS, ASRock, Biostar, Gigabyte, and MSI. Obviously, until we get official notice on these boards, the final specs and prices are uncertain. These boards fall under three types: B660, H610, and H670. These are all budget motherboards that work with Intel's new Alder Lake chipsets. This new line debuted just over a month ago, and makes up Intel's 12th generation Core processors. On the ASUS side, 22 motherboards are included, with the vast majority being Intel B660 models... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Monday, December 13, 2021 5:30 PM There are many hidden secrets scattered throughout Zeta Halo. Last week, we went on a hunt to find all the hidden Skulls in and around the great ring. This guide will help with another type of scavenger hunt. Below, I detail how to find all Forerunner Artifact locations in Halo Infinite. Forerunner Artifacts are ancient rings of which you can interact with for more details on the game's lore. Activating them will open up short conversations between the weapon and the Master Chief. They will also unlock recordings made by Zeta Halo's Monitor. Some of these recordings offer hints at what's next for the game, and possibly the direction of the franchise. Halo lore nuts will not want to miss out. There are seven Forerunner Artifacts in all, and they don't show up on the map in Halo Infinite. You'll have to scour the land, seeking out the rings. PC Invasion - FeedDDD Monday, December 13, 2021 4:00 PM Earlier this year, publisher Devolver Digital revealed its stylish new samurai game, Trek to Yomi, during the company's E3 showcase. The game definitely stood out compared to the publisher's other offerings, as it boasted a distinct art style inspired by the works of renowned film director Akira Kurosawa. It depicted its feudal Japanese setting with a classic black and white filter that basked every scene and character in intense shadows, and its action seemed grounded in a way that perfectly matched its photorealistic models. Needless to say, players who saw the original trailer for Trek to Yomi became incredibly impressed by it,. Fortunately for them, Devolver Digital just published a new trailer with plenty more footage to admire. Those who remember the original trailer may recall that it depicted the gameplay almost entirely from a side scrolling perspective. But, as this new trailer reveals, Trek to Yomi does not function as a strictly side scrolling action game, as... |
