PCGamesN Thursday, March 3, 2022 7:00 PM In an alternate world - probably a much better world, where we never had a COVID-19 outbreak - today would've been the release date for the Minecraft movie. Originally scheduled to launch on March 4, 2022, the film was pushed back over a year ago to make way for The Batman. But while the new superhero flick has landed on schedule, the Minecraft movie never got a new release window. Mojang announced the original Minecraft film release date in a now-deleted blog post (available thanks to Archive.org) back in 2019. As the devs described the plot, the live-action film would tell "the story of a teenage girl and her unlikely group of adventurers. After the malevolent Ender Dragon sets out on a path of destruction, they must save their beautiful, blocky Overworld." In 2020, The Hollywood Reporter revealed the Minecraft movie's delay alongside a big COVID-19-related shuffle of the Warner Bros. slate. The Matrix: Resurrections and The Batman were part of that shuffle, and have both released on schedule. Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam film was, along with Minecraft, given an indefinite delay at the time, but now has a date set this summer. PCGamesN Thursday, March 3, 2022 6:56 PM Babylon's Fall, the latest collaboration between Square Enix and Platinum Games - the same combo that brought us the likes of Nier: Automata - is here, and the hype… is basically non-existent. The world of online gaming discourse is cruel at the best of times, but gamers have had some particular antipathy towards Babylon's Fall, and the numbers on Steam have not been good. Babylon's Fall is officially out today at a price of $59.99 / £59.99 / €69.99, following a few days of early access to players who picked up the $99.99 / £94.99 / €109.99 deluxe edition. The game's concurrent Steam player count peaked at 650 shortly after launch. According to SteamDB, that makes it the 4,894th-biggest Steam game of all time, though it's technically tied with a game called War Planet Online: Global Conquest. In comparison to other questionable Square Enix releases, Babylon's Fall compares favourably to The Quiet Man, which hit a peak of 127 concurrent players, and Balan Wonderworld, which reached a record of 124. (Before you make your Avengers joke, it reached a solid 31,265 concurrent players at launch.) |
PCGamesN Thursday, March 3, 2022 5:44 PM The first story DLC has arrived for DnD successor RPG Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. It's a cosmic tale about reality coming unglued, and it's called The Inevitable Excess. The new campaign is geared for characters level 20 and up, and it allows you to unlock new powers that you can then use in the main campaign. The trailer sets an apocalyptic tone: the world itself is falling apart, with strange anomalies cropping up that appear to be tearing at the fabric of reality itself. You and your party will travel to Axis, where a primordial Inevitable named Valmallos has requested your help - apparently from inside a massive, cosmic clock. Valmallos keeps an eye out for unsanctioned and experimental uses of magic that pose a threat to the universe, and apparently things have gotten a bit out of hand. Mythic, semi-divine, and divine powers have all converged on the planet Golarion, and he says it "risks the destabilising of the material plane." Not good news for anyone who's just spent a hundred hours or so putting an RPG kingdom together. |
PCGamesN Thursday, March 3, 2022 5:22 PM The FFXIV devs suspended automatic housing demolition in December due to ongoing congestion issues following the launch of Endwalker, and it was scheduled to resume next week - but now they've pushed back demolition again, due to the "current world situation". "We had originally planned to recommence the currently suspended auto-demolition counter on Wednesday, March 9, 2022," the devs say in an update. "However, considering the current world situation, we have decided to keep the counter suspended. As for when auto-demolition will resume, we will monitor the situation in the coming days, and inform you all when we have come to a decision that auto-demolition can commence again." There's no specifics here, but the 'situation' referred to here is almost certainly the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine. The devs have been quite sensitive when real-world issues are likely to make it difficult for players to login. Housing demolition was previously suspended in 2020 due to the "economical effects of various cities going into lockdown" after the initial COVID-19 outbreak. PC Invasion - FeedDDD Thursday, March 3, 2022 8:30 PM No online multiplayer mode lasts forever, and the same remains true even with the most critically acclaimed games. Games that remain relevant for a long time tend to have the lifespans of their multiplayer offerings massively extended. However, there will inevitably come a time when publishers and developers decide to shift their focus and shut down the online servers. Developer Firaxis has now made this reality painfully clear, as it decided to discontinue online multiplayer support for the Steam version of its beloved turn-based strategy game XCOM 2. This also applies to the "Challenge Mode" that came with the War of the Chosen expansion. Firaxis revealed this news in a brief official statement on the official XCOM Twitter account. According to the developer, the game will receive an update on March 28 that removes players' access to these online modes. The developers went on to note that although this decision did not come lightly, it will permit them "to ... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Thursday, March 3, 2022 7:17 PM If you've been around for the last year and a half for PC gaming, you know how difficult it still is to track down a graphics card. Things have improved a bit lately, but the fact remains that many wishful gamers have yet to get the graphics card they might otherwise have purchased under normal conditions. However, those who are willing to hold out until the next generation may have a lot to gain for time waited. Nvidia RTX 40 Series rumors continue to leak out, and the specs along with performance estimates are just as exciting as the lead-up to Ampere. We've been tracking various leaks for well over half a year already. Sources are beginning to reach a consensus about what the Nvidia RTX 40 Series will feature in terms of hardware specs, the manufacturing node, and power consumption. The implications? Top-tier performance increases reaching as high as double that of top RTX 30 Series graphics cards. The latest speculation comes from anonymous industry leaker @ha... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Thursday, March 3, 2022 5:30 PM As a martial arts game, Sifu is quite good. The combat is varied and crunchy, with animations and sound effects that pop. However, it wasn't perfect at launch. It famously lacked the option to change the spoken language from English, despite the strong Chinese themes. Also, the camera wasn't great. No, it wasn't great at all, often getting stuck in corners and objects. (The game is incredibly popular regardless). Thankfully, developer Sloclap has been hearing the complaints. Today, Sifu gets a new patch that adds Chinese voiceovers, fixes bugs, and addresses the camera. The patch isn't massive, but the major highlight does bring an important change. Starting today, you can play Sifu with Mandarin Chinese voiceovers. Before, everyone in the game only spoke English — and with a variety of clashing accents. For a game featuring a story set in China, the limited voice option was a strange omission at launch. The Sifu patch brings other fixes, notably... |
