Here's The Batman Batmobile scene remade in Arkham Knight

Arguably the best The Batman movie scene is the moment where Robert Pattinson's hero takes down The Penguin, now the Batman Arkham Knight movie Batmobile moment recreates this within one of the best superhero games on PC.

The Batman Batmobile scene takes place roughly in the middle of the 2022 movie, where the Dark Knight chases down Colin Farrell's The Penguin - ending in a fiery explosion and Penguin much worse for wear, and Batman slowly walking towards his car. This moment was so cool it was used as the conclusion of the main The Batman trailer.

Now YouTube channel Batman Arkham Videos has recreated this awesome moment. The channel had to use some Batman Arkham Knight mods to accomplish this, including a free-camera mode and placing additional fire effects behind Batman for the epic slow-motion upside-down walk moment. Then it added the movie's soundtrack by Michael Giacchino and the scene was complete. The video even puts Arkham Knight's Penguin in the car, and as far as I'm aware, he never enters a vehicle in that game.

The first Elden Ring no-hit run is under 3 hours

The world's first Elden Ring no-hit run has now been recorded, and it clocks in at just under three hours. The general speedrunning record for completing FromSoftware's open-world game is now down to under 30 minutes, but this runner did the whole game without taking any damage.

Elden Ring speedrunners have been outdoing themselves to get the lowest possible completion time, with player niko bellic beating one of the biggest RPGs on PC in under two hours barely a week after launch. Classic Souls runner LilAggy recorded the first sub-hour speedrun, followed by Distortion2 nabbing it in a ridiculous 29:27 minutes.

After that, the race was on to get the world's first no-hit, no-damage Elden Ring run, and runner Seki - also known as SekiroShadow - has triumphed. His YouTube channel states that the goal is to beat Elden Ring "without taking a hit/stagger from enemies or traps, or any form of damage including fall damage/poison et cetera." He used the regular Elden Ring version 1.03.2 without any glitches.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake mod recreates the worst Tomb Raider

One determined fan has made a Final Fantasy VII Remake Tomb Raider mod with the aim of turning the JRPG game into Angel of Darkness. The FF7R mod changes nearly every character into someone from the 2003 Tomb Raider action-adventure game, including - obviously - Lara Croft as Tifa.

Despite still being unavailable on Steam, the Final Fantasy VII Remake has proven really popular with modders - and not just for the predictable reasons, cough. There's some really great stuff out there that completely changes the game, like giving it classic combat or a PS1-style camera.

A surprisingly ambitious mod is the FF7R Angel of Darkness Project - one modder's attempt to replace "a lot of the characters, weapons, and objects" with their equivalent from 2003's Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness. The Final Fantasy characters replaced include "Cloud, Barret, Tifa, Aerith, Red XIII, Heidegger, Sephiroth, Wedge, Biggs, Corneo, and Jessie", and modder xRaq says they may replace more of them in the future.

Elden Ring publisher wants to collab with Mistborn author

Could there be a FromSoftware Mistborn RPG game? On a recent livestream, author Brandon Sanderson revealed that Elden Ring publisher Bandai Namco is seeking a collaboration with the fantasy author - and even sent him some cool swag, too.

Mistborn and Wheel of Time author Brandon Sanderson has a bit of a history with videogames. Mistborn's Kelsier actually appeared in Fortnite, but the writer has regularly said that he'd like to work on a big fantasy game. Sanderson recently suggested that he was forced to turn down Forspoken because he's working on another game.

Sanderson also recently said that he would've liked to have worked on Elden Ring rather than George R.R. Martin. Now, on a recent livestream (thanks, VGC), the author reveals that Bandai Namco sent him a big box of Elden Ring goodies - including a map, cloak, and full-sized sword - and an offer to collaborate. "They're interested in perhaps doing something together," he says. "I actually have a pitch for them in the back of my head, so I may have to send them my pitch and see what they think."

Elden Ring Will Smith invades, slaps players, and leaves

There's apparently a player going around pretending to be Elden Ring Will Smith - who invades people's games, slaps them, and walks away. This is obviously a clear reference to the incident at the Oscars this year, which has since become a meme - which has now reached FromSoftware's latest RPG game, it seems.

There are many fantastic Elden Ring builds to be made in the Dark Souls studio's new open-world game, from overpowered ninjas to ridiculous player-destroying mech suits. Players have also pulled pranks on invaders, like pretending to be an NPC.

In this latest attempt, Elden Ring players are cosplaying as a celebrity entirely to recreate a meme with other players. This is exactly what happened to a user on Reddit, who posted the whole incident. They receive a brief message saying they've been invaded by "WILL SMITH!" (all in capitals), and then prepare themselves for the usual epic invasion fight. Instead, "Will Smith" simply walks over to the player unarmed, slaps them once, and then walks away.

Next World of Warcraft expansion leaks, thanks to Blizzard

The next World of Warcraft expansion has leaked early due to an accidental reveal by Blizzard itself, on its website. The MMO game's expansion, which is due to be officially announced on April 19, is apparently called World of Warcraft: Dragonflight - and players can expect a few new dragon mounts at the very least.

Historically, World of Warcraft expansions are released every two years, so after 2020's Shadowlands players are due for another big story DLC this year - however, disruption from the pandemic and the lawsuit over alleged discrimination and harassment at Activision Blizzard may put back the new expansion to 2023.

We'll likely find out the World of Warcraft: Dragonflight release date on April 19 for the proper reveal, but the game's website (via Wowhead) accidentally leaked the first details of the expansion. The source code was recently updated to show "WoW Dragonflight" Base, Heroic, and Epic pre-purchases - suggesting multiple tiers for the expansion, much like Shadowlands got.

Review: A Memoir Blue Does a Lot with a Little

Annapurna Interactive is one of those developers that not only handles more traditional games, but ones that could be described as artistic experiences. There are interactive elements, but they are situations in which developers are using the medium to tell a story in a specific way. It might even involve the person engaging with it to take on a more passive role, letting the title itself guide them through its story. A Memoir Blue is one of those games.

Miriam is an award-winning swimmer. Coming into A Memoir Blue, she achieved a major accomplishment. But it seems like reaching that goal left her feeling awry. She never says how she feels. Actions speak louder than words. Context is critical. As she sits alone in her home, with her gym bag beside her, a call she's ignoring keeps trying to come through. It is then that she goes through the channels on the radio, and hearing a song triggers memories of how she got to this point.

Cloisters Interactive

A Memoir Blue is the sort of experience that carries the viewer along for the ride. You're largely watching, listening, and learning. Along the way, a player occasionally engages in activities to help propel the story forward. Rather than minigames, they are brief themed experiences. When the heroine wins an Olympic medal, you control the overwhelming flashes from cameras and bring mics closer. You go through the channels on a radio, searching through the songs to find the one that makes her remember. Before boarding a train, you buy, collect, and stamp tickets.

These are never taxing. They aren't high stakes, win or lose situations. Each one is about building ambiance. Instead of just watching the memories, you set up and occasionally take part in them. In so doing, it might even help the person playing better understand the context. I felt more for the Miriam and her situation when I saw how she reacted to each photo I took. There was a better sense of what it was like to go out on that old boat, when I needed to be the one to place the boards for the dilapidated rock, buy the ticket from someone who, based on their actions, seemed curt, and start the engine.

Cloisters Interactive

Each segment is about being in the moment. Which is what A Memoir Blue is general about. It's a series of vignettes showing how someone got to a point in her life. How a relationship with her mother helped her get there. What they both went through along the way to reach a goal. How their bond changed as time passed.

The downside is because of A Memoir Blue's length and presentation, there were times I didn't feel it was effective enough at properly conveying things. I'm hesitant to offer examples, since it is only about an hour and a half long and it would spoil things. But sometimes I wanted more to see more from the interactions between Miriam and her mother. I would have liked more context or some additional scenes to increase my understanding further. It might also have made certain interactions feel a bit less rushed. What is there can be quite effective. But additional insights are always great for providing evidence.

Review: A Memoir Blue Does a Lot with a Little

Though considering how A Memoir Blue is presented, it being as effective as it is happens to be something of a triumph. Miriam never says a word. All text involves vague, unreadable symbols. Which is especially fun when messing around with her phone in the introduction. There's an art to creating something that anyone, anywhere can understand. Cloisters Interactive nailed it. Especially since the visual direction, design choices for Miriam's memories and the world around her, and even hints of magical realism and symbolism as she works things out come together.

Of course, it also helps that there is an incredible soundtrack to help get the A Memoir Blue's point across. Joel Corelitz, e.hillman, and IMOGEN put together some absolutely incredible songs for the game. It is stunning. Sometimes, I felt like the music could be better at making me feel things than what I was seeing on screen. As-is, it pairs perfectly with everything someone experiences.

Review: A Memoir Blue Does a Lot with a Little

A Memoir Blue is a peek into someone else's life. We don't know Miriam. We don't speak her language. But by the end of the game, the player will know exactly what she went through. It is touching and accomplishes a lot, in part thanks to its visual direction and soundtrack. Just know going in that it is more of an experience than anything else, and a brief one at that.

A Memoir Blue is available for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Nichijou Tankobon

Nichijou, also known as My Ordinary Life, will get its latest tankobon publication sometime after Summer 2022. Series creator Keiichi Arawi announced plans to release a new tankobon via personal Twitter account. The announcement follows the series' return to regular publication after a six-year hiatus.

Nichijou is a slice-of-life manga series that largely follows the strange and quirky hijinks of three high school girls. The manga series, which started in 2006, later received an anime adaptation produced by Kyoto Animation in 2011. The series originally ended in 2015. However, Arawi announced last year that Shonen Ace would serialize the series again in October 2021.

Arawi announced the new tankobon publication through a Twitter post, which included various panels from recent publications of Nichijou. Arawi said that further information about the publication will likely release around the end of Summer 2022. The manga series' tenth and final tankobon volume released in 2015, nearly seven years ago. It's still unclear when exactly the new tankobon will release.

https://twitter.com/himaraya/status/1510458004214218758

Aside from work as manga artist, Arawi has also worked as a designer for the Mechatro WeGo gunpla model series. In addition to a few Nichijou collaboration kits, Arawi has also designed several kits featuring Evangelion characters such as Asuka and Shinji in a signature art style.

Further information about the new Nichijou tankobon will release sometime after Summer 2022. The Nichijou manga series is available to read weekly on Shonen Ace. The anime series is available to watch on Funimation and Crunchyroll.

yoshida naoki shikujiri-sensei

Naoki Yoshida, or "Yoshi-P," appeared as a guest on Japanese variety TV show Shikujiri-Sensei: Ore Mitai ni Naruna!!. The title easily translates to "Teacher Mistake: Don't Become Like Me!!" and focuses on people discussing their mess-ups and what lessons to take from them. He appeared on the April 2, 2022 episode, which was available on TV and is now on Abema Video. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

Yoshida is the producer and developer of Final Fantasy XIV. Though FFXIV is incredibly popular now (with the release of Endwalker causing multiple issues with server load and players unable to play), it did not garner a warm reception until Yoshida revamped the game. According to the teaser on the Shikujiri-Sensei Twitter account, here are some of the topics that Yoshida touched on during the episode:

  • Extremely poor reception from around the world when it first launched
  • Nothing to do in-game
  • The heavy load in the game made it so opening a door would take 15 seconds

He discusses more challenges he faced during the episode, which is available for free for viewers in Japan through Abema. For example, a mistake he made was delegating too many resources to objects in the world. While it certainly made the world more realistic and beautiful, only around 30 players could exist on-screen at once. Items like flower pots would continue to be visible even when players were not. He learned at the time what to prioritize and to set more realistic expectations for consoles and engines.

Patch 6.1 of Final Fantasy XIV will go live on April 12, 2022, according to Yoshida. This will include new content, such as quests and a raid. The game is available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
