Destiny 2 Arc 3.0 rework aims to

Bungie has unveiled full details for the Destiny 2 Arc 3.0 rework coming to the FPS game. Following on from the Void 3.0 and Solar 3.0 makeovers, The Arc 3.0 revamp is set to overhaul the lightning-based subclass with a wealth of new abilities including new supers, buffs and debuffs, and more tricks than ever before - including the return of some much-discussed abilities from Destiny's past such as Hunter Blink to the multiplayer game. Destiny designer Samm Dunn says that the core fantasy that the revamp aims to achieve is to "go fast and hit stuff."

Citing 2009 action movie Crank 2: High Voltage as a leading inspiration, designer Mike Humbolt says, "that was the emotional fantasy that we wanted to go for: very much like 'living on the edge.'" This design ethos leads directly into Arc 3.0's first major buff - Amplified. When Amplified, Guardians become faster (affecting both movement speed and weapon handling) and more agile, with the ability to perform long slides.

By default, all Arc classes will become Amplified after rapidly defeating targets with any Arc damage, and equipped Aspects and Fragments can offer additional benefits. Bungie describes the speed boost and additional slide gained by an Amplified Guardian as "full-on Metroid speed booster mode, only Samus is now wielding Gjallarhorn." Once the speed boost is active, it will remain for as long as the Guardian keeps sprinting - even if the Amplified status falls off.

So you want to know about the best Tower of Fantasy Samir build? It's important we establish what you mean by this, as Tower of Fantasy characters come linked to the Tower of Fantasy weapons that you pull from the gacha systems. Samir as a character doesn't come with much functionality apart from representing a new skin you can put on your avatar.

A true Samir build then must look at her signature weapon, the Dual EM Stars. These ranged pistols are one of the best DPS weapons available in the game. Check out our Tower of Fantasy tier list for more insights into why Samir's weapons are one of the best overall, although she needs to be paired with a dedicated shield breaker like KING, or even your starter SR character Echo if you're a free-to-play player. Let's take a more in-depth look at Samir and her kit.

Tower of Fantasy characters: all Simulacra, traits and skins

So you want to know about Tower of Fantasy characters? Known in-game as 'Simulacra', these are the new anime game's collectable personae that you can earn. Sometimes they come as quest rewards, but the main unlock method is through interacting with the myriad of progression systems, Tower of Fantasy events, and the 'special order' banners that you'll recognise from similar open-world games like Genshin Impact.

You might also see characters referred to by their signature Tower of Fantasy weapon. Unlike in Genshin Impact, Tower of Fantasy characters are unlocked the moment you obtain their weapon - you won't have to draw for both, and you can't get one without the other. Characters are also separated into SSR and SR tiers - a slightly old-school version of the five and four-star (respectively) system you'll recognise from elsewhere.

Some of the best PC Game Pass games are leaving soon

A new PC Game Pass update has announced several new games coming to Microsoft's subscription service, but perhaps most notable is the news that some of the best PC Game Pass games are set to leave the service at the end of August. Thankfully there are definitely some good titles to keep an eye out for, with several new and classic games joining the service along with an underlooked Ubisoft open-world game.

The good news first, then. Joining the service throughout the remainder of August are a range of cool games, starting with heartwarming conversation game Coffee Talk. Also coming is the new Hotline Miami-style indie game Midnight Fight Express (arriving on day one). Zachtronics' 90s hacking game Exapunks will give you plenty to task your brain cells, while visual novel Opus: Echo of Starsong should take you on a relaxing intergalactic journey. The upcoming HD remaster of classic RTS game Commandos 3 is set to arrive on release day, as is Her Story creator Sam Barlow's newest title Immortality. Rounding out the lineup is Ubisoft's open-world Greek fantasy game Immortals Fenyx Rising and microscopic adventure game Tinykin.

Perhaps more notable, however, are some of the titles leaving the service on August 31. Among those set to be removed at the end of the month are critically acclaimed roguelike Hades, simulation game Two Point Hospital (although its sequel Two Point Campus is now available), beloved death-musing narrative adventures What Remains of Edith Finch and Spiritfarer, and classic puzzle game Myst. Although they were not available on PC Game Pass natively, both NBA 2K22 and Elite Dangerous will also be removed from the cloud streaming available to owners of Game Pass Ultimate. If you haven't finished any of these games by then, you can save up to 20% on purchasing each one to ensure that it stays in your library.

WoW Shadowlands Fated affixes make hard raids even harder

WoW Shadowlands Fated affixes are a new feature for the game's cadre of difficulty hounds. Once upon a time, in gaming's highest profile MMORPG, it was enough to have just Normal and Heroic modes. Later Mythic got added, but the masochists in raiding guilds across the world were still not satisfied. And thus, with the advent of Shadowlands Season 4, we have the Fated Raid system. Each week, one of the expansion's four raids becomes Fated, upgrading the health and damage of enemies and bosses, and giving each boss a special power, called an affix, that massively increases its difficulty. You can run Fated Raids on any difficulty, so if you were finding Mythic The Jailer just a little bit too easy, you're covered. Let's run through the affixes you'll find in Sepulcher this week.

Luca Le Fae has had it. His work as a writer for Leviathan Games, one of the biggest game developers on the planet, may pay well, but it's creatively unfulfilling. A fateful encounter with his old acquaintance, Jey Zhang, at a party may just provide Luca with the escape he has been looking for. Jey, a successful music producer, remembers Luca as an incredible songwriter and asks him if he has any samples he could send her. Suddenly the unthinkable, a single, an EP, perhaps even actual stardom, seems within Luca's grasp, but life has a tendency to get in the way even when you're ready to take the chance of a lifetime.

We Are OFK can be described as a 3D visual novel or a mildly interactive five-part TV series you just happened to buy on Steam. The first two episodes are available on launch day, with episodes three to five releasing weekly after the game's initial release. Each one comes with its own opening, which really sells the feeling of catching a new episode of a miniseries each week. With each episode, you follow the story from a different band member's point of view, from their initial decision to be band-adjacent to taking their first wobbly steps in promoting themselves as artists. Joining Luca on his journey are pianist Itsumi Saito, who works in social media management at Leviathan, and Luca's housemate Flores, an audio-visual effects artist.

Time has never been very kind to QUBE. The first-person puzzler first began life as a university project in the late 00s, but by the time it finally launched commercially in early 2012, it was almost universally written off as nothing but an okay Portal clone. In fairness, there was a lot working against it. Like Portal, it was set in a largely white, sterile testing facility, and while it didn't involve flinging boxes through portals, each one of its puzzles did revolve around manipulating brightly coloured blocks to progress to the next room. The one major thing it was lacking, and probably a large part of why it never really stacked up to Portal at the time, was a GLaDOS-sized villain. QUBE's story would come later, in the 2014 Director's Cut, which added an entire script, voice-acting and a revamped musical score to give Toxic Games' puzzler a bit more, well, shape.

Even with all those extra flourishes, though, the Director's Cut was still the same QUBE puzzles from before, leading many to write off the update yet again as a slight improvement on the original, but nothing to get too excited about. Now, in 2022, QUBE is getting a fancy 10th Anniversary Edition that rebuilds both versions of the game from the ground up, while also adding an entirely new sector that doubles the length of the game. And I'm telling you: please don't write off QUBE for the third time in its life. It deserves better than that.

If you're familiar with the Game Pass Twitter accounts, they like to do the flippant social media thing and tease followers. Well, this latest attempt has people speculating that the Sony-trademarked Death Stranding is about to hit PC Game Pass.

Tony the Tiger – the neckerchiefed mascot of Kellogg's Frosties – is becoming a VTuber, with some kind of heavily sponsored Twitch stream scheduled for this Friday in which "he" will play "a popular battle royale game" with some other livestreamers. I'm not very interested in this, to be honest, but I am curious about the "milk-coolant PC" that Tony's avatar will be using to get the W's and build creepy parasocial relationships with viewers. Could such a PC, liquid-cooled by a dairy product, actually function?

Uta One Piece Film: Red

One Piece Film: Red is out in theaters in Japan and France, and is already the most successful film in the franchise. Toei figures there's still a little space to hype folks up for its musical angle, though. The latest official music video for One Piece Film: Red and Uta premiered on August 17, 2022. In it, vocalist Ado (as Uta) sings the song "Tot Musica", composed by Hiroyuki Sawano. This makes it the sixth of seven of Uta's original songs for the film.

Check out Uta singing "Tot Musica" below. In a comment on the song, Sawano said that the song accompanies an important battle scene from the movie. He wanted to express a sense of darkness, mystery, and suspicion to match the aggressive movement. He sought to take advantage of Ado's "unique energy" and "sharp-edged singing".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9_ZpqfqHFI

The music video was produced by illustrator WOOMA, who also produced the video for her debut single, "Usseewa". Ado, as Uta's singing voice, performs seven songs for One Piece Film: Red, all composed by different artists. Each has its own music video, too. The first six debuted between June 15, 2022, and August 17, 2022. The final video, for "Kaze no Yukue", is set to debut on August 24, 2022.

The songs performed by Uta in One Piece Film: Red are as follows, with links to their videos on Ado's channel. English subtitles for the lyrics are available via Closed Captions.

One Piece Film: Red is in theaters in Japan and France. It opens in Taiwan on August 19 and in China on August 21, 2022. Crunchyroll will distribute the film in Fall 2022 in North America, Australia, and New Zealand. Ado's album for the film is available on online music stores and via Spotify.

PlayStation PC Launcher

In the last few years, Sony has dipped its toes into PC gaming with ports of popular PlayStation titles. Now, they might be looking to dive in deeper, if the recent release of Marvel's Spider-Man on PC is any indication. Formerly a PS4- and PS5-exclusive, Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered is now available on PC. Users exploring its files discovered references to a "PlayStation PC Game Launcher". They also found references to possible integrations with PSN Accounts. These files and references were confirmed to be legitimate by VGC.

Exactly what this means for the future of PlayStation games on PC is unknown, as Sony has yet to comment. That being said, it would not be unusual for Sony to release a PlayStation PC Game Launcher. Many publishers in PC gaming have their own launchers, which are front-end programs that function as a library from which to launch various games. In some cases, launchers function as a storefront to buy games from, too. The Epic Games Store, GOG Galaxy, EA's Origin, Ubisoft Connect (a.k.a. Uplay), and the Bethesda Launcher are all publisher-managed PC Game Launchers. The PC versions of Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 require the use of the Rockstar launcher to launch, even for copies purchased and run through Steam or EGS.

At the moment, Sony's PlayStation PC ports don't require a PlayStation PC Game Launcher or a PSN account to function. Perhaps the integrations in Marvel's Spider-Man are intended as optional. Perhaps Sony intends to patch in an account requirement in the future. Any predictions are purely speculative at this time, though.

Marvel's Spider-Man, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Days Gone, and God of War are available on PC, as well as on PS4.

Earth Defense Force 5 gets 1 million sales

D3 Publisher announced that it had sold over 1 million units of Earth Defense Force 5 worldwide. This number combines the number of units sold on both PlayStation 4 and PC. The company also added that over 500,000 of the units were sold in Japan. This means that the rest of the world contributed the other half to the whole tally.

EDF 5 came out first for PlayStation 4 in Japan in December 2017, and it reached 300,000 units sold in January 2018. The global release appeared digitally one year after the Japanese version came out, in December 2018. D3 Publisher worked with PQube to release physical editions of the game in October 2020. The company also brought the game to PC via Steam in July 2019. In total, it took over four-and-a-half years for the game to reach this milestone.

The million sales milestone announcement for EDF 5 comes just as D3 Publisher is preparing the game's sequel. The company will release Earth Defense Force 6 for PlayStation 5 and 4 in Japan on August 25, 2022. The fifth mainline entry depicted a massive alien invasion of Earth and how the eponymous force mobilized for the defense war. The upcoming sequel will take place three years after those events.

Earth Defense Force 5 is available worldwide on PlayStation 4 and PC.

Steam Guidelines Review Scores

Valve announced new Steam guidelines, banning any review scores or awards from appearing on store page art assets. In addition to the new restrictions, Valve will also be making a few changes to store page artwork overrides. Notably, one of these changes includes a requirement to localize said artwork text into all languages supported within the game. The new changes will go into effect starting September 1, 2022.

The guideline changes signal Valve's push for clearer communication on what to expect from a game. The company explained that the change came as a result of an increase in cases where game developers would put review scores, awards, discounts, and other text into their graphical assets. This added text would often make images harder to read and, in some cases, become inaccurate or outdated.

As such, Valve will update its store graphical asset rules with the following:

  1. No review scores of any kind, including Steam reviews or external news sources
  2. No award names, symbols, or logos
  3. No discount marketing copy (eg. no "On Sale Now" or "Up to 90% off" text)
  4. No text or imagery promoting a different product. This includes no marketing of sequels or other titles in the same franchise.
  5. No other miscellaneous text

The header image above includes fictional game store assets used as examples of what will no longer be allowed.

If developers wish to include any text in their graphical assets, they will have to use Capsule Artwork Overrides. Developers typically use Artwork Overrides to promote seasonal updates and DLC for their games. Furthermore, Valve will require developers to localize any of the text included in these assets into all of the languages supported in-game. Valve stated that this change is to prevent the isolation of non-English speaking Steam users.

Back in 2021, the company also banned any games with NFTs from its storefront. While the upcoming guideline changes will not remove any games from the store, Valve does note that it may limit visibility for games that do not adhere to the new guidelines.

Idol Manager Console

Idol industry business simulator Idol Manager is taking a swing at the console audiences. Playism and developer Glitch Pitch announced that the game is soon to launch on PlayStation consoles and the Nintendo Switch. The Idol Manager release date on consoles is set for August 25, 2022.  The ports' release will fulfill a promise made during the initial Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign in 2018.

Back then, a Switch version was listed as a stretch goal for hitting the $50,000 USD funding milestone. The campaign hit that goal, though development of the game itself took another  three years. Idol Manager entered Steam Early Access in November 2019. The full version released on PC in June 2021.

Check out the original Idol Manager console announcement trailer, which was uploaded back in May 2022.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wypiIMMaIcc

The Idol Manager console editions will be identical to the current final PC version in terms of content. As in that version, players will take control of a fledgling idol agency. They'll recruit girls, train them to become idols, and found new idol units. With the aid of their staff and facilities at the agency, the girls will improve their skills and earn fame, fans, and money through their activities. Events like scandals, personality clashes, and narrative-driven crises will also buffet the agency.

Idol Manager launches on PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch on August 25, 2022. It's already available on PC. Check out Siliconera's review of the initial launch version of the game.

Fortnite Map Change Lazy LagoonAs usual, Epic Games has kept Fortnite fresh by regularly rolling out new content. The latest update not on added the highly anticipated Dragon Ball content into Fortnite, but it also made some map changes. Lazy Lagoon is back and Titled Towers has received some adjustments following the results of the No Sweat Summer voting. Already, this season has been packed to the brim with crossovers. The Dragon Ball crossover has launched new quests, allows players to watch Dragon Ball Super episodes in-game, and much more. With all the Dragon Ball excitement, though, you might have missed some of the map changes.   Lazy Lagoon is back in Fortnite The Daily Bugle received a big change. It has been transformed into Lazy Lagoon, which first appeared all the way back in Season 8. The return of Lazy Lagoon also means the reintroduction of the Pirate Cannons.      Fifa 23 Epic Games Store PriceWe're all familiar with the phrase "If it's too good to be true, then it probably is." This applies to many things life, but it's used quite often when referring to getting a deal — or a perceived one. Surely the phrase came to plenty of players' minds when EA's pre-order listing of FIFA 23 was going for the equivalent of a mere $0.06 USD on the Epic Games Store. In actuality, the extreme discount was a complete accident, but EA is willing to swallow the cost and allow the deal snipers to keep their bounty. As Comicbook reports, the pricing error was on the Indian storefront of the Epic Games Store, where the pre-order listing of FIFA 23 on PC was incorrectly listed for under 5 Indian rupees ($0.06 USD). Full Squad Gaming took to Twitter to post a screenshot of an email from Electronic Arts and Epic Games Store with the flub being acknowledged.   Kicking up dust The message shows EA poking fun at itself, describing the incident as it...

Hogwarts Students Standing By Staircases / Hogwarts Legacy Will Be Shown At Gamescom Opening Night Live 2022Hogwarts Legacy, the new open-world RPG set in the wizarding world of Harry Potter, has been a hot topic. It'll let Harry Potter fans live out their dreams of creating a student and enrolling in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. We last saw the game in action during a Sony State of Play event earlier this year, and it looks like fans will get a look at new Hogwarts Legacy gameplay during Gamescom later this month. Geoff Keighley announced that Gamescom Opening Night Live will feature Hogwarts Legacy in a Tweet, stating viewers will get "an exclusive new look" at Hogwarts Legacy during the show when it goes live on August 23.   Turn to page 2023 Just last week, Hogwarts Legacy was delayed to February 10, 2023. The developer said that it needs "more time to deliver the best possible game experience." The news was likely disappointing for players were looking forward to Hogwarts Legacy, but a fresh look at the game during Gamescom should hopefully sati...

Thymesia Review PcI first heard about Thymesia last year. This Souls-like action RPG from OverBorder Studio and Team17 was on my radar for a short while, only to find out that it got delayed. Now, after yet another delay, it's set to release on Steam. I expected the tried-and-true formula that's common in this genre. However, Thymesia did manage to pique my interest given some cool mechanics. Sadly, it was also bogged down by other ideas that never truly gelled well with the action.   A Plague Tale: No Sense One of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to Souls-like games is how they lean on the "cryptic information for the sake of being cryptic" mantra. And Thymesia, regrettably, uses this as a crutch. You play as a fighter named Corvus (who dons a plague doctor's attire). You fight your way through three medium-sized levels in the Kingdom of Hermes, which has fallen to chaos and corruption. Along the way, you'll pick up a few fragments of lore. Likewise, there...

Airborne Kingdom DLC The Lost Tundra freezing temperaturesAlthough I have limited experience with city builders, I nonetheless ended up enjoying developer The Wandering Band's Airborne Kingdom back in 2020. It offered quite the distinct take on the genre, as it saw players constructing a floating city capable of navigating a sprawling open map to gather resources. The ways in which the game challenged my proficiency with resource management led to a fair degree of stress, but it also contributed to a palpable sense of satisfaction whenever I got my city to run without any major hitches. If this sounds at all interesting to you, then Sept. 19 will serve as the perfect opportunity to pick Airborne Kingdom up, as that marks the release of a new free DLC update titled The Lost Tundra. According to a press release, The Lost Tundra implements a whole new biome of the same name into the world map, and even players who have yet to finish the main story can explore it if they wish. However, those players should probably think twice before d...
