Previous archons were introduced to the game through archon quests, and eventually became playable characters such as Venti, Raiden Shogun, and Zhongli. These archons make up The Seven, deities which govern their own region and have a correlating element called a gnosis. In the 2.0 update and the release of the region, Inazuma, we were introduced to the Electro Archon, Raiden Shogun, and even had a boss fight with her as part of the story. Eventually she became one of the new Genshin Impact characters. Although we don't know if the 3.0 update follows a similar pattern, we do know a few details about the Dendro Archon. This huge effort by developer Creative Assembly combines the campaign maps of Total Warhammer I, II, and III (with some extra filling in around the edges) to create the ultimate strategy game sandbox in Games Workshop's Warhammer Fantasy setting. The Immortal Empires map is so big that our illustrious editor Rich mentioned in his Immortal Empires gameplay impressions that it took him over a minute to navigate around the map, with 44 seconds alone just scrolling from one side to the other. Only Paradox grand strategy games come close to this kind of scale, but they don't offer the same kind of visuals as Total War games. Sony has revealed that we'll need to wait until next year for its upcoming PlayStation VR 2 headset and motion controllers. While it's undoubtedly shaping up to be a substantial improvement over its predecessor in terms of specs, it could be even better if it works on PC too. Thanks to USB Type-C connectivity, Sony may be able to make the device compatible with gaming PCs, and it should. The PlayStation VR 2 promises some technical advantages over even the best VR headset, like the Valve Index. It boasts 4K HDR OLED panels with a 2000x2040 resolution per eye, with supported refresh rates of 90/120Hz. These kinds of specs understandably require a lot of graphical horsepower, but if Sony were to make the device compatible with PCs, upscaling technologies like Radeon Super Resolution or Nvidia DLSS could help boost performance. In addition to ditching the proprietary breakout box for a more universally supported USB Type-C connection, the PlayStation VR2 doesn't require any external tracking apparatus thanks to the inside-out tracking facilitated by cameras built into the headset itself. While this isn't quite as freeing as a wireless headset like the Oculus Quest 2, it's clean and simple enough to make the prospect of jumping into VR far less space and time consuming. Although I spent the latter half of last week playing and performance testing it, the worst I saw in terms of bugs, glitches and unintentional chicanery was one temporarily floating pedestrian and a few de-synced execution animations. Only after I committed this clean(ish) bill of health to writing did the game's wider playerbase discover that it is, in fact, riddled with issues: some benign and hilarious, others irritating and game-breaking. Well fine then, game. Some of these bug reports have come from inside the house, namely Liam and Rebecca, whose respective characters have a) involuntarily shot out their own windscreen immediately upon entering every single car and b) fallen through the world when attempting to mount a motorcycle. Then there's former vid bud Colm (RPS in peace), who has found his feet pinned to a car roof before fading away like Marty McFly if his parents split up. |

For LGBTQ+ people - and trans people in particular - the increasingly extreme rhetoric and legislation being weaponised against these communities can feel all-consuming. Yet it comes at a time when diverse representation in media, including games, is improving. As the number of characters stated to LGBTQ+ grows, what is more effective representation: making it possible to see your own experiences on screen, or make those experiences understandable to someone who isn't LGBTQ+? People who know of it would perhaps cite the work of developer and translator npckc, who I recently spoke with at the recent Japanese indie gaming event Bitsummit. They were there to showcase their latest game A Pet Shop After Dark, a departure from visual novels like A Year Of Springs trilogy into horror storytelling ("more spooky than outright horror," as they later clarified) that's set to release later this month. Beyond the trilogy and their newest work, they've translated the works of other developers and worked on other smaller games and game jam projects. |

The most recent update to Frontier Developments' epic space sim, Update 13, saw the conclusion of the story's Azimuth Saga, culminating in a disastrous attempt to stop the incursion of the Thargoids – Elite's hostile race of insectoid aliens. It's an event that has already had a major impact on Elite's universe, and Frontier are excited to discuss the studio's plans for the game and its narrative as it pushes into a new phase for the galaxy, simply known as "Aftermath". But the drama surrounding Elite Dangerous isn't limited to the game's overarching story. As I gear up to chat with lead game designer Luke Betterton and senior producer Samantha Marsh, the Thargoid in the room is Elite Dangerous: Odyssey. Launched in May last year, Elite's second expansion was, to put it lightly, not well received by Elite's community. Complaints ranged from extensive bugs and performance issues to more fundamental criticisms about the implementation of the expansion's on-foot exploration and FPS combat. Over a year on from release, the expansion still carries a "Mostly Negative" rating on Steam, standing in stark contrast to reviews for vanilla Elite Dangerous (now bundled with its Horizons expansion), which remain firmly positive. |

The Zero Time Dilemma soundtrack will appear after over six years have passed since its initial release in 2016. Spike Chunsoft and SweepRecord will release Zero Time Dilemma Official Soundtrack in September 2022. Early pre-orders for the soundtrack are immediately available on SweepRecord's Japanese site. People can purchase the album for 3,960 yen (~$29). The publisher will hold early sales for the soundtrack on September 9, 2022. All other stores will begin selling the album on September 23, 2022. While SweepRecord also has an international web store, it has yet to put the Zero Time Dilemma soundtrack there as of this writing. The soundtrack will come with 3 CDs labeled C, Q, and D. It will have a total of 63 tracks, and Shinji "Sampling Masters MEGA" Hosoe composed all of them. The album's booklet will contain a commentary from the scenario writer Kotaro Uchikoshi. The last disc D will also include six bonus tracks that never appeared in the game.

Sony announced the PSVR 2 will release sometime in early 2023, with further details coming at a later date. The reveal comes from the official PlayStation JP Twitter account. The PlayStation UK Twitter account has also made a similar announcement. [Thanks, 4Gamer!] The Japanese PlayStation Twitter account tweeted a simple graphic of the upcoming VR headset with the words "2023年 初頭発売", which directly translates to "Releasing at the start of 2023". While it's still unclear when exactly the release date will be, the wording indicates that the peripheral will likely release at the very beginning of the year, possibly in January 2023. I feel like they hit the mark more often than not, and I'm glad there's still this much interest in the genre Half-Life mutated so long ago. Fashion Police Squad (its initials are FPS, get it?) is visually pitch-perfect. And it has a lot of intriguing ideas that are as humorous as they are creative. The game certainly has more to set it apart than most do. Unfortunately, it's also let down at times by uneven difficulty, extremely cramped, linear levels, and some design choices that would have been better off taken to a nearby tailor. The titular squad (which actually appears to just be two people) is made up of Des and his partner Haley. They're literally fashion police, so they show up on the scene whenever people commit fashion crimes. The First Descendant will be showcased at Gamescom Online, and will be playable with a Steam beta coming in October. The First Descendant will be among the first games to take advantage of Unreal Engine 5 from the ground up. And wow, does it look it. This game is gorgeous. The lighting, characters, and environments ooze beauty. If this is a taste of things to come, players are in for a visual treat. Gameplay so far The First Descendant is a four-player co-op shooter RPG that focuses on a cast of characters — each of whom with their own unique play style and abilities. According to Nexon's pre-Gamescom announcement, there will be 10 characters playable during a closed beta starting on October 20 and lasting until October 26.
