In a bizarre twist to Nvidia's GeForce RTX 40 series GPU rollout, it turns out there will be no 12GB version of the RTX 4080 at all. Nvidia announced an "unlaunch" of the graphics card, which would have sat below the RTX 4080 16GB and the RTX 4090, effectively cancelling it. The 16GB version will still release as planned on November 16th.

"The RTX 4080 12GB is a fantastic graphics card, but it's not named right", reads Nvidia's statement. "Having two GPUs with the 4080 designation is confusing. So, we're pressing the "unlaunch" button on the 4080 12GB."

FFXIV All Saints Wake 2022

A fright-filled Halloween is coming to Final Fantasy XIV next week. Or rather, a fright-filled "All Saints' Wake", which is the Eorzean seasonal event that just so happens to fall in the same period as the real world's Halloween (and All Saints' Day). This year, FFXIV All Saints' Wake 2022 begins its annual run on Wednesday, October 19th, and runs until November 1st, the same day as the real world's All Saints' Day.

This will be the second time this year the FFXIV All Saints' Wake 2022 event has actually happened. This is because the 2021 event was delayed by the release of the Endwalker expansion. As such, the 2021 event happened in January 2022, rewarding players with a festive clown suit.

To celebrate, Square Enix uploaded some bespoke artwork and a preview screenshot of a decorative holiday haunted mansion.

[gallery columns="2" ids="937375,937376" link="file"]

As with the typical seasonal Final Fantasy XIV event, players will need to be level 15 and have access to Gridania to start the event quest. They'll need to talk to The Adventurer's Guild Investigator at Mih Khetto's Amphitheatre. From there, they'll need to complete the quest to win the goods, or currency that can be traded for the goods at the event vendor. This time, the FFXIV All Saints' Wake prizes include both a full costume set and an emote.

The costume set is the "Wake Doctor" set. It includes a full-face mask, a lab coat-like top with attached potion holders and tool belt, and pants, gloves, and shoes. The emote is "Eat Pumpkin Cookie", which prompts the Warrior of Light to chow down on a jack-o-lantern-shaped cookie. Lastly, for FFXIV housing enthusiasts, there's a Caged Wisp, a tabletop decor item that shows a glowing blue ball imprisoned inside a metal cage.

Final Fantasy XIV is readily available on PC, PS4, and PS5. The event begins on October 19, 2022, and runs until November 1, 2022.

sunshine 60 ikebukuro brawl

A violent altercation involving at least 100 people broke out in an iconic Japanese skyscraper. In an incident some compared to a real-life Like A Dragon brawl, the fight happened late on October 16th, on the 58th floor of the Sunshine 60 building in Ikebukuro, Japan. It is unknown why the Ikebukuro brawl began. According to police, a group of around 100 customers who had been dining at a restaurant suddenly started to punch each other. [Thanks, Asahi Shimbun!]

The members arrested were reportedly not part of formally-designated criminal organizations like the yakuza, but rather were part of "Chinese Dragon", which is considered an "anti-social group" akin to a gang (they're sometimes referred to as "quasi-gangsters" or "semi-gangsters"). Investigators stated that the members had gathered at the restaurant to celebrate one of them leaving jail. According to police officers, Chinese Dragon mostly comprises of grandchildren of Japanese orphans from China. Soldiers left them behind after the Japanese repatriation from Huludao after World War II. The restaurant they fought at was a French restaurant that would cost between 7000 JPY to 20,000 JPY for a dinner course. That would equate to around $47 to $134.15.

Sunshine 60 itself is a well-known part of Ikebukuro's skyline. Until 1985, it was the tallest building in Asia. The attached Sunshine City mall is also the site of Namco Bandai's Namja Town theme park, and every few months hosts the Sunshine Creation event focusing on the sale of doujinshi and self-published comics.

Netizens were quick to compare the situation to the Yakuza or Like a Dragon series. While the situation was dangerous, the idea of a huge 100-people brawl in the middle of a classy atmosphere does sound like a level from one of the games. Some other netizens have compared it to Tokyo Revengers, which is an anime and manga series on gangs.

Police have not made any arrests as of yet in regards to this. When they arrived at the scene, there were only a few people left and one of them had to go to the hospital for a light head injury.

Silent Hill

Konami's got some new Silent Hill-related info up its sleeve. The company promised fans and curious outsiders "the latest updates" for the series during a livestream event it's calling Silent Hill Transmission, scheduled to kick off on Wednesday, October 19th, at 2:00 PM Pacific Time (or October 20th, 6:00 AM Japan Time). The timing of the announcement suggests that a Silent Hill remake or some other related project is ready to be announced.

The announcement was made via a Tweet from the Silent Hill official account.

https://twitter.com/SilentHill/status/1581754587563708416

The tweet asks fans "In your restless dreams, do you see that town?", with a link to a new portal site. At the moment the page is clean bar a picture promoting the stream schedule and what looks like a revamped logo for the series. Masahiro Ito, who served as Art Director on Silent Hill 2, also retweeted the announcement.

Game-wise, the franchise has been almost dormant for a long time, though rumors and leaks have suggested a revival is in the works. On October 8, 2022, Christophe Gans, who directed the 2006 live-action movie adaptation, claimed that "multiple" new games in the series were in development. Gans also said he's involved with a new film that could be released in 2023. Meanwhile, South Korea's Game Rating and Administration Committee rated an as yet unannounced title called Silent Hill: The Short Message. Meanwhile, The Medium developer Bloober Team, which partnered with Konami in 2021, is rumored to be working on a remake of Silent Hill 2, though it hasn't commented publicly on the matter.

Konami will share more info on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at 2:00 PM Pacific Time via the portal site.
