I'm a sucker for strategy games which boil their mechanics down until they almost become puzzle games, particularly if they also involve building rather than war. I'm thinking of games like Concrete Jungle, Slipways, Terra Nil and now, maybe, Farlanders.

That last game may be less familiar. Farlanders is a turn-based strategy game about terraforming Mars via building placement and adjacency bonuses, and it's due for release next month.

There are so many games released each year that I sometimes only notice a couple of years after the fact. Unfortunately that's sometimes long enough for a game to be unreleased again. So it is with Fuser, Harmonix's 2020 music game in which players create new works by mashing up other people's songs. It's being delisted from sale later this month and its "live services" are being switched off.

Scifi horror The Callisto Protocol launched this week to reviews which said mostly the same thing: whatever the qualities of the game, it stutters too much to appreciate them. Developers Striking Distance quickly acknowledged the issue and have now released a patch which they say should improve things.

So, you beat Pokemon Scarlet and are excited to head back to Area Zero for ancient Paradox Pokemon. However, you got there and can't see any of them around! I mean, okay, you'll probably see Scream Tail, the ancient form of Jigglypuff. It's everywhere there even before you "beat" the game. But what about others like Brute Bonnet, Flutter Mane, Great Tusk, Roaring Moon, Sandy Shocks, and Slither Wing? Well, I'm here to help.

But, if you want to still find them on your own without more direct advice and just want a quick tip, searching around Research Station 1 and Research Station 4 will help you find most of these new Pokemon. They're all in the late 50s and early 60s in terms of level, so be prepared.

Editor's Note: There will be spoilers regarding Pokemon Scarlet's Area Zero postgame and Paradox Pokemon below.

Pokemon Scarlet Ancient Paradox Pokemon Brute Bonnet

How to Find Brute Bonnet in Pokemon Scarlet

Brute Bonnet is one of the more common ancient Paradox Pokemon spawns in Area Zero in Pokemon Scarlet. I found mine without even really searching for it when I went to Research Station 4 to make my descent to the bottom of Area Zero for the second Koraidon. They are plentiful inside this cave's research station. However, I also saw them frequently around Research Stations 1, 2, and 3 too. This ancient Pokemon is a grass and dark type, so bug type moves will wipe it out and fairy, fire, and fighting will mess it up.

Flutter Mane

How to Find Flutter Mane in Pokemon Scarlet

Are you still around Research Station 4? Good! Start making your descent into the bottom of Area Zero. While Flutter Mane isn't as common as Great Tusk or Scream Tail, you'll see it every once in a while when walking down that ramp. It tends to float in the air a bit around the crystals, so be ready to press ZR to send a Pokemon out to fight it. It is a fairy and ghost type, so ghost and steel moves will do major damage.

Great Tusk

How to Find Great Tusk in Pokemon Scarlet

Great Tusks are incredibly common as you descend on the path just outside Research Station 4. You'll see them more frequently than Brute Bonnet or Flutter mane. They also seem to spawn in pairs, from what I've seen. This is a fighting and ground type form of ancient Donphan, so know that moves like fairy, grass, and water will be super effective.

How to Find Roaring Moon in Pokemon Scarlet

Roaring Moon is the most difficult ancient Paradox Pokemon to find in Scarlet, but that's only because it only spawns in one spot. Once you get to the cave that is between Research Station 2 and 3, it isn't all that uncommon! When I was in the cave, I found three Roaring Moons with minimal effort. (Flutter Mane also shows up often in here!) It is a dragon and dark type. Be cautious when using fairy moves, as that will kill it. Bug, dragon, fighting, and ice attacks will also be super effective.

Pokemon Scarlet Sandy Shocks Ancient Paradox Pokemon

How to Find Sandy Shocks in Pokemon Scarlet

With Sandy Shocks, you can either start at Research Station 1 and head down or at Research Station 2 and go left. In between these two spaces will be an area of land with a lot of rocks. You can tell it is "different," because the ground will be barren earth instead of grass. This electric and ground type will be walking around this spot. I've never seen more than one at a time, and I had to come back and forth a few times to get it to show up. Be careful when using grass, ground, or water attacks when trying to catch one, as those can do major damage to it.

Scream Tail

How to Find Scream Tail in Pokemon Scarlet

If you're here to find out where the ancient Paradox Pokemon Scream Tail is in Scarlet, you obviously haven't even gone into Area Zero. Scream Tail is everywhere. Everywhere. Even before you beat the game and enter the post game, you can start finding and catching Scream Tail in the cave heading down to Research Station 4 and the bottom of the crater. It is a fairy and psychic type, so know that ghost, poison, and steel attacks will run a risk of knocking it out.

Pokemon Scarlet Ancient Paradox Pokemon Slither Wing

How to Find Slither Wing in Pokemon Scarlet

Slither Wing is one of those fairly easy to encounter ancient Paradox Pokemon in Scarlet. If you go to Research Station 1 and head downward, it isn't too uncommon. They won't show up as frequently as Scream Tail or Great Tusk, but they aren't as rare as Sandy Shocks. I also never saw Slither Wing in any Area Zero cave areas in Pokemon Scarlet, so stay outside when looking for one!

Pokemon Scarlet is available for the Nintendo Switch.

NetherRealm Mortal Kombat Injustice MK12 Boon Denies Mortal Kombat, Injustice TGA 2022 Game Announcements

The Game Awards are a prominent place for a developer or publisher to deliver a surprise announcement for a new title. Sometimes, though, one has to clarify when something isn't going to happen. That was the case with NetherRealm Studios Chief Creative Officer Ed Boon, who took to Twitter to announce that the studio is "not ready" to announce its next game. This means no Mortal Kombat or Injustice game announcement.

https://twitter.com/noobde/status/1598732410585088001

In the announcement (or rather, the denial of an announcement), Boon referred to the 2018 Game Awards event, when NetherRealm successfully announced Mortal Kombat 11, the current game in its hyperviolent fighting series. The game went on to sell more than 12 million copies by 2021.

According to Boon, fans and onlookers assumed that the studio would try a similar surprise for its next title. With four years being an average development time for a new title in a major commercial game franchise, anticipation is building for whatever the studio behind Mortal Kombat and Injustice has planned next. Boon thus put the dampers on speculation by denying outright that the studio has an announcement planned for the 2022 Game Awards. In fact, Boon had confirmed before that NetherRealm Studios does not intend to show anything within 2022. In October 2022, Boon said that the studio would not be revealing the in-development Mortal Kombat 12 during its celebration of the franchise's 30 year anniversary.

In other words, fans impatient for info on Mortal Kombat 12 or Injustice 3 - two projects that NetherRealm is confirmed to be working on - will have to keep waiting.

Mortal Kombat 11 is available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
