PCGamesN Friday, January 13, 2023 12:20 PM Knowing the best Marvel Snap Patriot deck list is crucial if you want to use cards that would have no place in any other decklists, due to their lack of abilities. Patriot decks are among the very best Marvel Snap decks right now, but whether they'll stick around for a while is another question. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, January 13, 2023 3:46 PM Desktop Dungeons is a morish puzzle game from 2010 that channels conventional dungeoning into fiendish headscratching. Every enemy sits still, waiting for you to come and whack it. Whack willy-nilly, though, and they'll kill you in no time - so you have to tactically explore parts of each level to heal, while targeting foes in an order that lets you survive long enough to level up and take on the big bads.
Desktop Dungeons: Rewind is an upcoming "modern remastering" of the original, with 3D graphics and the ability to rewind time rather than start each level from the very beginning. It's got a demo you can play right now, and it's adding free daily challenges with a sharable leaderboard later this month. I am hyped.

Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, January 13, 2023 1:05 PM When The Anacrusis launched into early access in January 2022, its retrofuturist take on the co-op FPS instantly delivered on funky sci-fi fun. Yet it was also tempered fun: a brutal AI Director could easily tip manageable chaos into a fatiguing onslaught of fishy alien minibosses, and I still remember my will to persevere being sapped by connectivity issues and a general lack of weight to the otherwise enticing pew-pew gunplay. Happily, following a year of tweaks and additions, The Anacrusis is in a much better place. Even if that place is still turtleneck-deep in extraterrestrial viscera. Ahead of the game's first anniversary, I poked developers Stray Bombay for a chat on how their early access approach is working out, the impact of long-awaited mod tools, and what's next for this most stylish of space shooters. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, January 13, 2023 12:25 PM I'm playing Assassin's Creed Valhalla right now, and it's too bloody big. This is my second stint, jumping back in after playing for 14 hours when it came out in 2020 then abandoning it - and I'm beginning to remember why. It's a pretty but largely empty-feeling time, with woefully repetitive mission design and characters I only have a passive interest in. It's good, therefore, to see Assassin's Creed Mirage creative director Stéphane Boudon make more noises about how the next Creed game will be smaller and "more intimate".

Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, January 13, 2023 12:08 PM When you think of object-gathering game Katamari Damacy the first things that spring to mind are usually balls, and the rolling thereof. Computer scientist and custom controller kitbashing experimenter Dr Tom Tilley had the same thought and, erm, rolled with it. In a case of life imitating art, Tilley repurposed a trackball he'd made from roll-on deodorant and a soccer ball to play the game with (thanks, Time Extension). You can watch Tilley mucking about with the trackball to control an emulated version of the PS2-era Katamari Damacy in the video below. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, January 13, 2023 12:06 PM What makes a good platformer? Christ, I don't know. Why would you open an article with that. Calling Kandria a platformer feels a little reductive, so there's a need to clarify why it works. You play as an android revived several decades after an apocalypse, by a tiny camp of survivors who inevitably need your help. A lot of this help involves, well, platforming. To the point of having nonsensical areas of pure platforming in between you and a destination or secret area. You'll climb, jump, do the little dash thing that recharges when you touch the ground or pick up a hovering lamp thingy. You'll land on a lot of thorny instakill spikes. So yeh, lots of the old platforming, but it feels more like an exploration and scavenging game, with a side order of light-light-heavy-dodge combat too. And a plot with varied dialogue options and mysteries about the world and its history. It's immediately and consistently fun, but I'm not sure exactly how to recommend it. Hmm. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, January 13, 2023 12:00 PM I've learned to loveApex Legends, having bounced off it hard multiple times. The pace is high, the movement tricky, the guns have like, 18 bullets in a clip and it's really easy to buzz them all into thin-air. But once a few friends held my hand and taught me to be patient and position myself properly, rather than charge into battle at any given opportunity, the game began to click. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, January 13, 2023 11:37 AM Horror movie maestro John Carpenter has 'fessed up that he's not directing a movie version of Dead Space, but suggests there's another director attached to a possible big-screen adaptation. Talking to Variety about his career ahead of his 75th birthday, Carpenter was asked about rumours he could be helming a non-interactive take on Dead Space. Considering Carpenter hasn't made a film in 13 years it does seem a bit of a wild idea, but then the director is both a horror auteur and video game fan. |

Fans are currently sorting through 60 gbs of unused Team Fortress 2 assets, including 20 maps, 40 man vs machine maps, and assorted intriguing models. I do kind of wish we'd got to play the version of TF2 with mechs that resemble three-footed Star Wars Walkers.

Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, January 13, 2023 10:30 AM Writing up our big guide on all the upcoming PC games of 2023, I was introduced to a number of smaller games in development I hadn't heard about before. One of them was Broken Roads, an isometric RPG set in a post-apocalypse Australia. The gorgeous artwork was enough for me to click on the Steam page and read more, and while scrolling through the screenshots something strange caught my eye. It was a screenshot of a fairly traditional RPG dialogue scene, with a panel at the bottom displaying all the possible dialogue options for the player. But what caught my eye was an unusual radial graphic on the right-hand side of the options. Reading on, I discovered that Broken Roads uses a rather unique Moral Compass, one which plots your overall moral stance towards the world and its people with a golden arc. Different decisions may rotate the arc, expand it, contract it, lengthen it, or shorten it. And in so doing, you'll unlock various traits dotted about the Compass, which only remain in effect for as long as that golden arc covers those traits within the wheel. I can see a dozen different ways in which this Moral Compass may end up being a bad idea in practice. But I don't care. I adore it. And I'm going to play Broken Roads solely so I can see the consequences of my actions in satisfying radial form. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, January 13, 2023 9:42 AM As I scale the sides of apartment blocks with climbing axes and pole-vault through windows, I often feel like I'm breaking Babbdi. I feel I've done something particularly clever or busted outside the boundaries of its little brutalist city. I haven't, but I'm delighted to explore with this feeling. Oh sure, my objective in this splendid free indie game is to find a way out of the terrible city, but I'll enjoy my final hour here. You might too. |

Siliconera Friday, January 13, 2023 3:00 PM Vtubers keep increasing in popularity, with companies worldwide like Anycolor and Cover adding more to their rosters. With new generations adding four or five people at a time, it can be a lot to keep up with! Especially if you consider language barriers. So let's talk about the people we think are the best Hololive Vtubers we think people should consider watching. I'm honestly more of a Nijisanji girl, but if I had to pick a favourite VTuber associated with Hololive, I would choose the legendary Usada Pekora. Konpeko, konpeko, konpeko~ Her laugh is infectious, and I really like both how funny she is, and her friendship with the other girls. I especially like the way that she and Moona both try their best to communicate with each other, despite the language barrier between them. Since I generally do not have the attention span to watch an entire stream, I stick to kirinukis, and Pekora is the only Hololive VTuber I consistently seek out videos of when I'm bored. I hear Gawr Gura is really popular, but Pekora is the only blue Hololive Vtuber for me. — Stephanie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNqFWgDcvXM&ab_channel=KoroneCh.%E6%88%8C%E7%A5%9E%E3%81%93%E3%82%8D%E3%81%AD https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zc05le75CfI&ab_channel=TowaCh.%E5%B8%B8%E9%97%87%E3%83%88%E3%83%AF Also, I know he's only just getting started, but I have a good feeling about the Holostars EN Vtuber Machina x Flayon. His debut stream was amazing and kicked off with this fantastic animated segment. His personality is very different from the other Tempus members. His banter with other members, like Magni Desmond, is fantastic. Plus the character designs is cool. Also, some of his first streams involved Daemon x Machina and Hatoful Boyfriend. I'm looking forward to seeing his progress, because I think Machina x Flayon has the potential to be one of the best Hololive Vtubers. — Jenni The post Which Hololive Vtubers Would You Recommend Watching? appeared first on Siliconera. |
Siliconera Friday, January 13, 2023 2:00 PM Good Smile Company opened pre-orders and shared the release windows for the Cuphead and Mugman Nendoroids. The two figures will both debut in June 2023 in Japan. Then, two months later, they will show up in August 2023 in North America. Each one costs ¥8,500/$61.99. Here's a closer look at the photos Good Smile Company shared for the two of them. Finally, here are two official photos of the two together with the good and evil face plates. Siliconera Friday, January 13, 2023 1:00 PM One day after revealing the Chainsaw Man Power bunny suit figure, Good Smile Company opened up pre-orders for the Makima Bunny Suit Ver one that matches it. However, people will need to wait a little longer for this second one. Makima will first show up in August 2023 in Japan. In October 2023, she'll start showing up in North America. She's slightly less expensive than Power. People will need to pay ¥38,500/$278.99 for her. The Power one, perhaps due to the more elaborate pose, cost ¥39,600/$286.99. As with the other figure, the Makima Bunny Ver figure shows the Chainsaw Man heroine in a black bunny suit with ears and fabric fishnet stockings. This is a static figure, with her arms crossed over her front. She's 1/4th scale and expected to stand at just under 20 inches tall. (The Power figure is about the same height.) Here's a closer look at her: The Chainsaw Man Makima Bunny Ver figure will appear in Japan in August 2023 and North America in October 2023. Pre-orders are open until March 9, 2023. The anime is available to stream on Crunchyroll, while Viz Media is handling the English localization of the manga. You can also read new chapters on both the Viz and Manga Plus sites. Siliconera Friday, January 13, 2023 12:30 PM Crunchyroll shared a new SAO Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night trailer, this time featuring the Sword Art Online movie 2's English dub. The video highlights returning characters from the first film, like Asuna, Kirito, and Mito. This comes as ticket sales open for the Canadian and US showings in February 2023. The beginning of this SAO Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night trailer picks up with a reminder of what happened in the first movie. This is a retelling of the Sword Art Online story, only with Asuna as the primary protagonist. The first installment focused on explaining what led to her playing the virtual reality MMO and getting trapped in Aincrad. It also picks up initially with her relationship with her classmate Misumi Tozawa, who plays the game as Mito. (Mito is the new character debuting in these films.) After that introduction, the video shifts to new footage from SAO Progressive movie 2. We see both Asuna and Kirito facing opponents and challenges. The new theme song "Heart," by Eir Aoi, also plays. As for the tickets, they are now available via Fandango. Showings are available February 3-9, 2023. It seems the Japanese language showings with English subtitles appear February 3-5, 2023. The English dub ones appear to be running February 7-9, 2023. Siliconera Friday, January 13, 2023 12:00 PM Goodsmile Company offered a Hololive Nendoroid update on the Shishiro Botan and Yuzuki Choco figures. We already knew both were in development. However, there weren't any official designs. Even the preliminary peek for Botan at Smile Fest 2022 only offered a chibi art suggestion of how it could turn out. Now, unpainted prototypes of both appeared on the official Twitter account. In each case, only a single pose and face plate is used. First, here's the Shishiro Botan Nendoroid. As a reminder, she's a part of the fifth generation of Hololive. As she's a white lion, you can see her ears on her head and there are fur accents on her outfit.
Next, here's a look at the Yuzuki Choco Nendoroid. As she's a demon and doctor, her figure features her horns and a lab coat. She's a part of Hololive's second generation.
Earlier in January 2023, Good Smile Company opened pre-orders for another Hololive figure. The Gawr Gura Pop Up Parade one is coming out later this year. The Shishiro Botan and Yuzuki Choco Nendoroid figures of the Hololive Vtubers are in development. There's no release window for either one.
