PCGamesN Wednesday, August 16, 2023 11:38 AM Who are the Starfield Ecliptic Mercenaries? There are several factions in Starfield, and we'd say that most of them are committed to either tearing you apart or helping put you back together. There are undoubtedly some, though, that have absolutely no idea who you are - you're just that little weirdo who bounces around in their ship that looks like a giant penis. One of these factions is the Ecliptic Mercenaries, and while we won't know who they actually are until the Starfield release date rolls around; there are some safe assumptions we can make, and some probably not-so-safe ones. Whatever happens, you'll need to make sure your companions are up to the task of potentially facing off against an entire army, so, you know, you should probably get on that. PCGamesN Wednesday, August 16, 2023 11:36 AM Looking for the best Yelan build in Genshin Impact? Yelam was introduced back in the Genshin Impact 2.7 update and has remained a key character on the roster. Yelan is a Hydro bow user and her attacks scale with HP - when using the correct set of artifacts, she's capable of dealing deadly amounts of damage. The best Genshin Impact Yelan build will need the right set of weapons and artifacts that make the most of her charge attack, elemental skill, and burst to build her into a lethal sub-DPS character. It also helps she has a killer passive ability, which means there are many candidates for the best Yelan team composition. She returns to the roster as part of the first set of banners in Genshin Impact 4.0, so you'd better unlock her while you still can. PCGamesN Wednesday, August 16, 2023 11:02 AM En Garde makes a fantastic first impression. Awash in cool blue and vibrant orange and inhabited by characters just as colorful to match, with a few early teases of the game's snappy combat, it's charming from the jump. It's easy to see why the game's demo, which went live during a recent Steam Next Fest, earned a fair bit of positive press. Following some light tutorialization and hardly any narrative table-setting, the game quickly sends you fencing your way through four brief episodes that each cover a different mini adventure of the swashbuckling Spanish rebel, Adalia de Volador. These consist of a series of combat encounters with some minor platforming wedged in for good measure. This all takes place in environments that, while visually striking, are functionally spartan, without any real branching paths or big surprises to speak of. Structurally, our En Garde review finds it to be an action game without any frills, which means it's able to hook you right away - a good thing for a game that clocks in a shade under 10 hours for a single playthrough. But that doesn't have to be the case with the best mini gaming PCs, small form factor machines that house full-scale components. Despite their small size, the best mini PCs don't skimp on performance, and they're ideal if you have a smaller gaming desk or want to take it traveling. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Wednesday, August 16, 2023 11:18 AM I haven't played Dungeons & Dragons before, and I don't know much about it besides the obvious. I know there's a dungeon master, or DM, who directs proceedings behind a cardboard shield. I know you lob some dice to determine the outcomes of an adventure that's contained in the heads of everyone at the roundtable. And that's about it. Baldur's Gate 3 is based on D&D's 5th edition and it's meant to honour its rules to the absolute tee. I'm sure it does! To be honest, though, I haven't exactly learned much about D&D by playing it. I don't even think of myself as playing D&D, instead I'm just playing an RPG whose complexity adds a nice mystery to proceedings. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Wednesday, August 16, 2023 10:22 AM I've not played a huge amount of Dungeons & Dragons, but I get why those kids from Stranger Things won't stop banging on about it. It turns out all those librarians in the 90s were right: using your imagination really is cool and fun! Indeed, our ability to conjure fiction from the ether is fundamental to the ongoing success of D&D. Making up stories with friends is very much a good time, and if you get to kill a goblin or two in the process? Well. That's just gravy. Built upon the foundations of D&D's fifth edition ruleset, Baldur's Gate 3 attempts to translate the fundamentals of the game into digital form. But how successful is it at doing so? Can a video game - with all the rigidity that comes with the medium - replicate the freedom of a table-top role playing game? |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Wednesday, August 16, 2023 9:00 AM Winding back the clock to rewrite past mistakes is a core stratagem of any Mimimi game. Baldur's Gate 3 might have rekindled the debate about save-scumming over in RPG circles, but in the stealth strategy arena where Mimimi operate, reaching for the F5 and F8 keys to quick load a previous save is as natural as swapping between your party members on 123, or activating their unique abilities to clobber all manner of unsuspecting guards on the back of the head with ASD and F. In their latest real-time tactics-me-do Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew, however, the act of quick saving has been woven directly into the language of the game, presented not as cold, hard button commands, but as 'captured memories' that your magical ghost ship The Red Marley is able to unleash to make sure your supernatural pirate crew don't get caught or die (again) on the job. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Wednesday, August 16, 2023 5:34 AM MiHoYo have released Genshin Impact 4.0's update, adding a new area, story elements, characters, domains and equipment to the gacha-driven free-to-play action RPG, which I remember having a lot of fun with last year. I've since inhaled a vast amount of shonen anime, and have accordingly been looking for a moment to reconnect with Genshin, one of the better anime games on the shop - perhaps this is it. As Rebecca (RPS in peace, sob) wrote last week, Genshin Impact 4.0's big new feature is the the sunken kingdom of Fontaine, which you can dive into after completing prologue mission Act III and unlocking the associated teleport waypoint in Sumeru. That's literally dive into: Fontaine - not to be confused with the nice man from the Bronx you encounter in Bioshock - is water-themed, and there's a new mechanic, Fontaine's Blessing, which allows you to navigate local lakes, together with a Lucin Fountain system that can be levelled up for certain items. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Wednesday, August 16, 2023 4:00 AM Larian CEO Swen Vincke has consulted his magic mirror, cast the bones and offered up a pinch of insight on Baldur's Gate 3's next few patches. Tantalisingly, these include a few changes asked for by players. "Our focus now is fixing any issues you report, but we are listening to suggestions," Vincke wrote on Xitter. "Current roadmap: a) Hotfix 4, b) Patch 1 (+1000 fixes and tweaks), c) Patch 2. The latter will already incorporate some requests." What could those requested incorporations be? Here are a few possibilities derived from my own crystal ball. |

Siliconera Wednesday, August 16, 2023 10:00 AM HoYoVerse shared the full Genshin Impact patch notes for the 4.0 update. Titled "As Light Rain Falls Without Reason," this is the first patch featuring the Fontaine area. While we saw characters from there before, like Charlotte, we never got to visit it. This means new Archon Quests, World Quests, Domains, characters, and equipment. For example, the siblings Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet will all become playable in 4.0. Everyone also gets Lynette for hitting Adventure Rank 25. The Genshin Impact patch notes for 4.0 are a little more descriptive than people might expect. For example, when discussing new characters or locations, there will also be details about what to expect from the region or their moveset. It also goes over the unlock requirements to access certain activities or storylines. Here are the full Genshin Impact patch notes for 4.0 from HoYoVerse's HoYoLab site:
Genshin Impact is available for the PS4, PS5, PC, and mobile devices, and the 4.0 update is now live in-game. The first Lyney banner and Yelan rerun banner are live until September 5, 2023. The post Patch Notes for Genshin Impact 4.0 Appear appeared first on Siliconera. |

PC Invasion - FeedDDD Wednesday, August 16, 2023 11:45 AM In the modern age of gaming, pre-orders have become a real point of contention. With offers of in-game bonuses, art books, and other shiny extras, companies are able to sell a game that is not finished in production. For some, this is seen as a way for studios to get away with unfinished games and subpar products without losing too much money. The practice encourages rushed games and results in often unplayable rubbish. (I'm looking at you, Cyberpunk). However, for others, pre-ordering and special editions are ways to support their favorite developers and get their hands on some extra loot, so the extra cash is worth it. But are the Armored Core 6 pre-orders and extra editions valid? Should you pre-order Armored Core 6? As a rule, I say withhold your money when it comes to games, no matter who the studio is or your love for the franchise. Pre-order bonuses are usually just a way to make money before a game's release. The practice also puts an added weight on the studios' ... |
