PCGamesN Monday, August 21, 2023 8:10 AM Who are the Starfield companions? It's easy to get lonely in the vast reaches of space, but it wouldn't be a Bethesda RPG without a companion to tag along with you on your adventure. Beyond running through a full list of confirmed companions and crew members, we'll also explain some of the ways you can recruit them and include info on their abilities. You don't have to find a Starfield companion, but there are Starfield traits that offer additional bonuses for having a companion and staying in their good books. Companions often provide an alternate point of view during Starfield missions, and they aren't shy about commenting on the decisions you've chosen – so prepare to be judged for any morally questionable actions. It also goes without saying that they're also a prerequisite for a Starfield romance. Here's the scoop on companions in Starfield, along with their character backgrounds and skills. PCGamesN Monday, August 21, 2023 7:51 AM It's April 1973, blown-out hair and colorful fashions are all the rage and, appropriately, The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia, a song about murder in the American South, is the biggest hit on the radio. Just months before the events of the 1974 movie, another group of young victims goes missing in Muerto County, Texas, and this is where our The Texas Chain Saw Massacre review first finds us. Sure, here we have another asymmetrical horror game based on a scary movie, but that's no bad thing - especially not when Gun Interactive is involved. The Friday the 13th: The Game publisher knows what makes a killer multiplayer game, and the Jason Vorhees-led 4v1 was one of the best before its untimely demise. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre takes what was great about F13, adds the grit and beauty of the 1974 Tobe Hooper classic, and chucks in a couple of extra killers for good measure. PCGamesN Monday, August 21, 2023 6:53 AM What is the Starfield Shattered Space DLC? Despite Starfield being one of the biggest Bethesda games ever made - if not the biggest - the developer isn't content with leaving it as it is, revealing that there's at least one expansion already planned. We've not even reached the Starfield release date yet, but Bethesda has already confirmed the space game's first DLC: Shattered Space. Whether or not there will ever be a Starfield sequel, we can probably assume that the world will be broadened with expansions, perhaps in a similar fashion to Skyrim or Fallout 4. PCGamesN Monday, August 21, 2023 4:31 AM Can you choose your character in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre? The multiplayer game, based on the 1974 movie of the same name, brings seven players together in one iconic location: three killers versus four victims. In a unique twist to the genre, you can't have multiple of the same character in a match, so can you choose who to play as? As we highlight in our Texas Chain Saw Massacre review, there is a range of characters to choose from in the horror game, including familiar faces and brand-new friends. Since the game is based before the events of the 1974 movie, there's plenty of room for developer Sumo Nottingham to release more new characters and maps. All survivors so far are original characters, while the new killers are already among the fan favorites and the top of our tier list - but what if you do have a preferred character? Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, August 21, 2023 9:17 AM Developer Cardboard Computer sporadically released their poetic adventure game, Kentucky Route Zero, in acts spread across multiple years. It was a teasing release schedule that only aided the game's surreal mystery, so it's no surprise that the studio have dropped the game's first major update three years after the fifth and final chapter wrapped things up. The aptly named Postmodern Update overhauls the game's user interface with a new Modern mode, alongside a host of bug fixes and more language options. "The new 'Modern' interface is designed to be more flexible and readable on a wider variety of devices, including tablets and the Steam Deck," the studio wrote in a recent Steam blog. Kentucky Route Zero's smaller acts and text-based nature make it almost perfect for on-the-go devices, although I'm more interested in using the game as bedtime reading instead, as someone who regrettably bounced off of it in the early acts. "We've also overhauled and improved the 'Classic' interface from the original release, and its lo-fi companion, 'Retro,'" the studio also wrote. The update also lets you "zoom in on details in the scene," which sounds handy for smaller screens. New translations now support Arabic, Chinese, Polish, Thai, Swedish, Turkish, and Brazilian Portuguese, too. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, August 21, 2023 9:13 AM It's hard to know where to start with Six Ages 2 Colon Lights Going Out. The initial uncertainty and esoteric nature of its world has always been the series' biggest problem, as it appears to demand a lot of foreknowledge to play. But rather than memorising facts and (ugh) "lore", it's a series that encourages a different mindset to pretty much any other game. These games are about culture and myth, and how both interact and change over time. It's harder, though, to write about this entry without just repeating myself. It is a Part Two of a planned three, thus much the same as before, yet different in some interesting, but esoteric ways. Do I try to convince the unfamiliar, detail those differences for fans, or try to cover both and succeed in neither? |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, August 21, 2023 7:14 AM Explaining the concept of Fight Crab feels redundant because, well, it's all right there in the name. It's a fighting game… with crabs. The kaiju crustaceans left such a good impression that developer Calappa Games went fishing for more maybe-not-voluntary battlers and announced a follow-up: Fight Crab 2. Just in case you're uncomfortable with imposing a combat sport on sea creatures, the sequel adds humans to the mix, so you can enjoy the zany announcement trailer with a clear conscience. |

Siliconera Monday, August 21, 2023 10:00 AM Netflix shared a new One Piece live-action teaser showing the actors discussing the show. Siliconera Monday, August 21, 2023 9:30 AM Sword Art Online: Variant Showdown maintenance will begin starting on September 28, 2023 until Summer 2024. This is to fix a large number of bugs and other issues that are currently in the game. The development team will also take the chance to come up with and implement new content, as well as adjust existing rules and characters. Takeuchi, the producer for Sword Art Online: Variant Showdown, posted on the game's official X (formerly known as Twitter) account to explain and apologize for the maintenance. He noted that there have been multiple issues with the game since launch, and that every time the team fixes them, new problems will pop up. In light of this, he has decided to pause service to fix major bugs in the code. This is so that players can enjoy the game for many years to come. Currently, Bandai Namco predicts that it will take until Summer 2024 for the overhaul to complete. It will not undergo any updates that will delete user data. So players will be able to pick up from where they left off. However, Bandai Namco still recommends that players backup their login data and in-game information. The team plans on reporting what it fixed and where it's at with the maintenance once every month. Because of the upcoming maintenance, the in-game shop will close on August 31, 2023. Sword Art Online: Variant Showdown is available on mobile devices. Maintenance will start from September 28, 2023 and end in Summer 2024. Another Sword Art Online game, Sword Art Online: Last Recollection, will launch on October 6, 2023 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC via Steam. Siliconera Monday, August 21, 2023 9:01 AM Back in 2018, Six Ages: Ride Like the Wind brought the concepts and gameplay of King of Dragon Pass to a wider audience. It offered us scenarios where our choices actually mattered, with supernatural and otherworldly elements peppered throughout. It took us back to adventure game roots, so to speak. Six Ages 2: Lights Going Out acts as yet another complex gamebook. However, this time with a world about to meet its end, it makes for much more harrowing circumstances. The world is ending. Following the a war between gods, chaos is slowly seeking to take over and infect everything. Spirits might not listen. Ancestors might abandon you. Gods are either sleeping or dead. Your Orlanthi clan needs to survive an uncertain age, one where forces of all sorts will attack your city, allies will turn on you swiftly if you don't keep in touch, there are different sorts of political factions within your own tribe, and it feels like magic gets increasingly scarce. However, at the same time, this is a surprisingly massive experience. While you are managing the clan by looking at menus and reading tons of menus, it will take at least two or three playthroughs until you'll find yourself really handling the Rituals' stories "well" enough to say, tame a raging river, successfully handle diplomatic relations, or even figure out how many allies you need to lure in a major foe so you can beat him so badly he'll never bother any of you again. For example, I didn't even touch any activities in the War tab like raiding for my first two runs, because ensuring trade, peaceful relations with people around the clan, and food supplies were sound. Put simply, it is a lot! It can be overwhelming the first run or two, even though A Sharp very clearly organized all of the information. You'll start learning to check the tribe's well being and health after each season's events, so you know exactly how many goods and herds should be offered as gifts or sacrifices during certain circumstances. Not to mention the nature of it all, knowing that this is a dying world about to potentially make way for something new, adds an extra level of pressure surrounding decisions. As with past games, there are a massive number of these scenarios. I did see a few repeat during the five runs I went through. However, each time the choices I made varied when ones did return. For example, one member of the circle named Reda had an option to go into the area "beyond" in two games. I also saw people call for Sereden to be promoted to a position on the council in multiple runs, Hanth had the option to lure more game to our forests with a possibly controversial blessing, and Kerenna often had a chance to become a hero. Still, on the occasions these did happen, it was a great opportunity to do something different or see how it would play out for my new clan. However, I found that Six Ages 2 didn't really feel all that different from Six Ages. The UI is basically the same. Battle still involve pulling from selections like Advance, Charge, Maneuver, Parley, Reserve One in Seven Fighters, and so on. This means if you didn't enjoy the original game or King of Dragon Pass, it won't suddenly transform into something entirely different. It's billed as a new adventure in the same world with more to do, and it does that very well. Six Ages 2: Lights Going Out is a game designed to make you root for your new community and do what you feel is necessary to protect them. This means making tough choices, being vigilant when monitoring your current status, and immersing yourself in the situation. The right thing to do could end up having grave repercussions in one situation. In another, you may need to weigh your options and choose the one that will make the least people made and save the most lives. It can be quite engrossing as you put hours into new adventures. Six Ages 2: Lights Going Out is available for PCs and iOS devices. The post Review: Six Ages 2 Carries on King of Dragon Pass' Legacy appeared first on Siliconera. |
