Evidence from a previous patch for the Resident Evil spin-off suggested that it contained Enigma, a DRM (digital rights management) software designed to protect games from having their source files tampered with or being pirated. This led to a campaign of review bombing against not just Resident Evil Revelations but also other RE games on Steam, as well as other Capcom games - further review bombing followed after Capcom added Enigma to Monster Hunter Rise. I suppose it's a natural extension of the post-2000s explosion of the survival sim from "literally about 3 ever made" to "does your tetris remake really need the hunger meter". Games like Against The Storm porting over the roguelike element as well certainly suggest it. In my head, that's probably why New Cycle hangs out more with Endzone Dash A World Apart, and Surviving The Aftermath. It's more a traditional building game than a punishing test to be retaken, or the intense "survive the ordeal" narrative of Frostpunk, despite the superficial similarity that your town expects to be ravaged by scorching solar flares. But it might also be because after playing it more than I really wanted to, New Cycle matches those two peers by leaving me with a vague feeling of disappointment. I'm just not sure what it really has to say. |

On the one hand, there's arguably a hungry new audience for such games; on the other, you're going up against one of the best RPGs ever made. Expectations are high, but Tiny Trinket Games' co-founder Stefan Nitescu remains unfazed as his three-strong team prepare to release Zoria: Age Of Shattering on March 7th. Zoria is carving an altogether different path through the RPG landscape, fusing isometric exploration with XCOM-like combat and 50 playable characters who are more like unit classes than personalities. The latter is a decision that comes with its own "repercussions", says Nitescu, but he's confident that it will help Zoria stand apart, with character abilities being unusually central to exploration. |

I think that's a thing inherent in me, as I've never taken great pleasure in snapping together pieces of Lego, and would much rather earn killstreaks than decorate a back garden. For me, building in most games is laborious and predictable and does not sate my impatient brain. But I like Neal Agarwal's Infinite Craft, a browser game where you slide words on top of each other and see if they generate something new. For instance, "water" and "fire" combine to make "steam", with what's practically infinitesimal possibilities. It is immediate, simple, and unpredictable. More games should facilitate haphazard engineering and silliness. |

I've had my eye on Pacific Drive for a few years and after playing the demo, I am delighted by parts of it but not entirely sold on its roguelikelike survival scavenge-o-rama structure. Hmm! Inkulinati, a turn-based strategy game where you play a medieval artist duking it out with another artist on the pages of an illuminated manuscript, is one such. It's been kicking about on Steam since at least 2019, and in fairness to me it did launch in January last year - it just went into early access. These factors contributed to me being sort of surprised at the reveal of the actual release date for 1.0, which is February 22nd. |

Square Enix will hold an exhibition event in Nagoya that combines the city's traditional crafts with the former's game franchises. The SQEX Creators Exhibition will feature items modeled with illustrations from the following Square Enix titles: Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy XII, Star Ocean The Second Story R, Paranormasight, and the SaGa series. Square Enix has also provided a map of the event area. Visitors will enter the venue from the southwestern gate. In a counter-clockwise direction, they will see the following booths in order before exiting the venue via the Theater Area:
On each weekend day and holiday, Square Enix will also set up a special corner where people can pay extra to take part in the production process behind one of the traditional crafts. There will be exactly five holidays during the event, as Japan will observe the National Foundation Day on Monday, February 12, 2024. Other than the highlighted crafts, the exhibition will also showcase concept art and character artworks from each game.
Square Enix will hold the SQEX Creators Exhibition at the Chukyo TV building in Nagoya, Japan, on February 9-18, 2024.

Game Beauty is selling Attack on Titan makeup based on characters and elements from the series on its official site. It focuses on characters like Eren, Mikasa, Armin, and Levi, as well as the Maria, Rose, and Sina walls, and pre-orders are open through March 7, 2024.
There are multiple options for purchasing items from the collection. People can buy items piecemeal. For example, the Eren, Mikasa, Armin, and Levi lip glosses are $15 each or $55 in a bundle all together. The Maria, Rose, and Sina eye shadow palettes are $18 each, and you can get a bundle of the three for $49. There is also a full collection option, which is $96 without a commemorative gift box and $106 with one.

It isn't unusual for companies to sell makeup based on popular game or anime series. For example, ColourPop had an Animal Crossing collection. That was so popular, it ended up being restocked. Game Beauty also offers a Persona 5 Royal collection.
The Attack on Titan makeup is available to pre-order through Game Beauty until March 7, 2024. The anime is streaming on Crunchyroll, while the manga is handled by Kodansha.

Atlus revealed that it is working with the Japanese cosmetic brand Aqua Savon to produce a perfume branded with the lead character from Persona 3 Reload. With the full title "Aqua Savon Eau de Toilette Watery Shampoo X Persona 3 Reload," the perfume will be available in stores across Japan in late February 2024.
Aqua Savon noted that it will use its existing Watery Shampoo aroma—which is also the brand's most popular entry—for this perfume. The aroma features the following composition:
This branded perfume will also come with an exclusive sticker featuring a silhouette of the Persona 3 Reload character. The owner will be able to place the sticker of the avatar anywhere on the perfume bottle as they like.
Pre-orders for the 80mL perfume priced at ¥2,750 (~$18.49) are available immediately on the U.Health & Beauty Online Shop, which only ships domestically inside Japan. The shop also used to sell the first stock batch, but it was sold out within just a few hours after the opening on February 8, 2024, at noon JST. People who place orders now can expect their items to be shipped in late February 2024.
This is not the only merchandise featuring the Persona 3 protagonist announced in February 2024. Kotobukiya has also revealed a 1/8 scale figure based on the same character. Pre-orders for the latter are available in the U.S. via Sideshow.
The Persona 3 Reload-branded Aqua Savon perfume will be available for sale publicly in Japan on February 26, 2024.

One of the surprises in the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth State of Play trailer is that Cissnei, a Crisis Core FFVII character, will return. While we already saw screenshots and renders for her, there's now also an official profile that explains what she's been up to since the last game.
As a reminder, Cissnei first debuted in Before Crisis: FFVII. That was a Japan-exclusive mobile game, the story of which might eventually also end up implemented into FFVII Ever Crisis. There, she was one of the nameless playable characters who served as a member of the Turks. She then later appeared as a named character in Crisis Core FFVII, the prequel focusing on Zack Fair. Once again, she appeared as a Turk. However, during the later events of Before Crisis, which took place after Crisis Core, she ended up going off on her own.
The new profile shared on social media covers what happened since. It revealed Cissnei went to Gongaga, the hometown of Zack, following the events of past games. However, Square Enix's announcement describes her past as a "mystery," rather than referring to the events of the past two games.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will come to the PS5 on February 29, 2024, with the exclusivity arrangement ending on May 29, 2024. FFVII Remake is available for the PS4, PS5, and PC, and FFVII Ever Crisis is available on the PC and mobile devices.

Square Enix is planning to release Kingdom Hearts fluffy room wear outfits and shoes based on Sora, Riku, Kairi, and King Mickey's outfits from Kingdom Hearts 3. Pre-orders are currently open on the Square Enix e-Store and will release on February 29, 2024. There are four different kinds of fluffy room wear outfits and shoes based on the main characters of the Kingdom Hearts series. Sora, Riku, and Kairi's fluffy room wear will cost ¥13,200 (~$89 USD) and King Mickey's fluffy room wear will cost ¥11,000 (~$74 USD). All of the fluffy room shoes will cost ¥3,850 (~$26 USD). Sora's fluffy room wear is comes with a hood and capris pants with an adjustable drawstring for comfort. The jacket features a zipper and a small crown emblem on the left side, and the pants also have a crown emblem on the right pant pocket. The room shoes are based on Sora's iconic giant shoes from the video game series and also have a crown emblem on the side. At the start of the Dokibird return stream on February 8, 2024, the Vtuber noted that she made zero profits in 2023 as Selen Tatsuki with Nijisanji. She also noted that she spent $200,000 Canadian during the course of her role as a performer with the company, and she also asked at the end of her stream that none of her followers "harass or bully anybody."
The insight into her financials came up during a portion of the stream during which Dokibird was talking about the experiences she's already had with her new manager and the assistance she can get for her streams and work. At the 21 minute mark, she noted that the manager told her, "We can get sponsors for that. And I was like, 'Huh?' And he was like 'Yeah, you don't have to pay out of your own pocket anymore.'" She noted "That blew my mind."
Here's the full statement regarding how much Dokibird spent as Selen Tatsuki when with Nijisanji, which came up at about the 21:50 mark of her return stream.
By the way, my mom scolded me about this because, you know, during all this she looked at my financials. And I made zero profit last year. She was like, Doki, you have to spend less, because you spent $200,000 last year. And I was like, "That hurt."

At the 2:31:20 mark, Dokibird also talked about when Nijisanji announced she had been terminated as Selen Tatsuki. She noted, "As you all know, when the announcement dropped, I was just as surprised as all of you. I only found out because a friend messaged me, and I didn't even know what was in it. I read it for the first time when it went public." She then discussed the statements she made, as well as noting she had a lawyer who helped edit it, and discussed her hospital stay briefly. At the end of this part at the 2:34:25 mark, she said, "My final note on all of this is, let's not harass or bully anybody. I already know how that felt. I want us to be adults and not make it high school. I want to move on, focus on us, succeed, and be better."
Dokibird has not announced a new streaming schedule yet. In Nijisanji's latest statement, it said it expected a "negligible" financial impact from the Selen Tatsuki termination. Hyte recently announced it terminated its business releationship with Nijisanji parent company Anycolor.

As is common for the Animal Crossing like Hello Kitty Island Adventure, there's a Hugs & Hearts event in place for Valentine's Day 2024. It involves lovebugs players can catch and care for, as well as new cosmetic items.
Here's how the event works. In addition to a login event that gives you free items each day, you can now catch lovebugs for Chococat. When you do, you can place them in a habitat on the Resort Plaza beach. As you do, you can eventually claim nine different kinds of furniture. Eventually, after entering their cocoons, the lovebugs will hatch into what could be beautiful butterflies.

As a reminder, players can still collect some of the dragon orbs and redeem them for items for the Lunar New Year event. People can find the scattered throughout the Resort Hub area. When they do, they can turn them in at the stall outside My Melody's store to collect an array of different kinds of furniture inspired by the year of the dragon.
Hello Kitty Island Adventure is available on Macs and iOS devices, and its Hugs & Hearts event runs until February 22, 2024.

Paramount revealed a new trailer for the upcoming live-action Knuckles Sonic the Hedgehog series, which will feature Idris Elba as the the titular echidna. The series will consist of six episodes and is set to debut on Paramount Plus on April 26, 2024 for the U.S. and Canada, and a day later for other territories including Japan..
The trailer features Knuckles (Elba) and Wade (Adam Pally), a human who he has decided to train as a warrior. The live-action story will take place chronologically after the second film, but before the events of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie. It will feature an ex-employee of Robotnik sending goons after Knuckles, aided by advanced gadgets. There are, of course, multiple references in the trailer. Some of them include the hat worn by knuckles in the 1996 Sonic the Hedgehog OVA series and a callback to the first movie trailer Knuckles appeared in.

Jim Carrey was recently confirmed to reprise his role as Dr.Robotnik in the third Sonic the Hedgehog live action movie. Meanwhile, a remastered version of Sonic Generations was announced at the Sony State of Play event back in January, 2024, including extracontent featuring Shadow the Hedgehog.

A manga version of Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent has opened for pre-orders. Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent - The Bargello Family will come out on April 6, 2024 and will cost 730 JPY ($4.90).
This is a prequel to the events of the game, which is itself a prequel to the original Octopath Traveler. There is no summary on the store page for the book. However, Square Enix Tweeted that this is the story of a young man who has not made a name for himself yet, and it will depict his meetings and farewells.
It will likely focus on Bargello, who is the main character of the Master of Wealth path. He also plays a major role in the Bestower of Wealth and the Bestower of All storylines. Bargello is the leader of the New Mafia, or the Bargello Family. The story will likely depict how he came to hold this position.
Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent originally came out in 2020 in Japan. It is a smartphone RPG that takes place in Osterra and it takes place several years before the first game in the series. However, it will tell a whole new story and star new characters, of which one of them is the Bargello who'll star in his own prequel comic.
Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent is readily available for mobile devices, and the The Bargello Family prequel manga will come out on April 6, 2024.

Persona 3 Reload is the fastest selling game in Atlus history, with over 1 million sales in its first week. Atlus has posted a thank you Tweet for its fans on both its English and Japanese accounts.
The Tweet shows a picture of the Protagonist, along with "Fastest Atlus Game To Top 1,000,000 Copies Worldwide" at the side of it. This sales number likely takes account of all platforms, including both digital and physical copies. Replies to the English Tweet congratulate Atlus on this milestone, as well as say that the game deserved to sell this many copies in such a short amount of time. The Japanese Tweet has very similar response, as well as someone saying that it's amazing it accomplished a million sales even though the game isn't even on the Switch.
Persona 3 Reload is a remake of the original Persona 3, which came out in 2006. Though it includes new scenes, such as events with the boys, and an improved battle system, the game is a faithful retelling of the original story. The base game only kept the QoL changes from FES or P3P. However, the success of the game may inspire Atlus to release DLC, such as The Answer or a FeMC route, in the future.
Persona 3 Reload is readily available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and Windows PC.
