Most such games start you off on the periphery of the world, out in the sleepy and/or brutish hamlets of FirstActShire, Chosen One County, and send you on a loose quest towards the cosmopolitan centre, where you'll typically learn about the ultimate villain of the piece, gain access to the juiciest concentration of shops, crafting facilities and quest-givers, and glean some hint at the location of the endgame dungeon. Sometimes the quest takes days of playtime, as in Baldur's Gate 3. Sometimes it takes less than an hour, as in the original Destiny. It's a common-enough device that when an RPG starts you off in the Big City, like Dragon Age 2, or creatively "provincialises" the Big City, like Roadwarden, I feel slightly unnerved. |

I sternly and sorrowfully turned my back on such hit releases as Shadow of the Colossus, Far Cry and yes, even, that PC gaming essential Half-Life 2, so as to spend 11-hour days boning up on Aeschylus and Samuel Johnson. Then, two weeks before my final exams, I somehow went out and bought Ensemble's Age Of Mythology. I'm not sure why - blame the devil on my shoulder, I guess. It wasn't even a new release at that point. I managed to get good marks in the exams despite several nights of binge-playing, but what direction, in general, would my life have taken if I hadn't bought Age Of Mythology at such a fateful hour? Better or worse? Could I have been some kind of billionaire don with a Pulitzer by now, if it weren't for Age Of Mythology? These things keep me awake at night. Kairosoft published a new gameplay trailer for its upcoming game Doraemon's Dorayaki Story. It shows some of the title's gameplay features, as well as the background story behind it.
The trailer begins with Doraemon informing Nobita (also known as Noby) that a new Japanese confectionery store focusing on Dorayaki has opened in the town's vicinity. However, the old man who runs the shop gets injured due to an accident. Doraemon and Nobita ultimately decided to help the owner produce and sell the snacks with the reward of getting free Dorayaki for themselves.
The business simulation game will task the player to purchase ingredients, produce the snacks in accordance with the recipes, and place them in the store to sell. It will also feature Doraemon's gadgets like the Anywhere Door. In addition, the trailer also revealed that characters from other titles Fujiko F. Fujio had worked on, such as Perman, Pajamaman, and 21 Emon, will appear to purchase the snacks. Characters who have appeared will be registered in the game's encyclopedia.

Kairosoft first revealed Doraemon's Dorayaki Story in October 2023. It is producing the game to help celebrate the 90th anniversary of Hiroshi "Fujiko F. Fujio" Fujimoto. The Japanese manga artist was born on December 1, 1933, and died in 1996.
Doraemon's Dorayaki Story will be available for consoles and mobile devices in 2024 in Japan.

Square Enix teased an announcement for a new Bravely series game, which will come later in 2024. This information came from a post on social media celebrating the third anniversary of Bravely Default 2.
The tweet in question shows a piece commemorative art, as well as a message thanking everyone for their comments at the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024. Tomoya Asano, the producer of Bravely Default 2, noted at the end of the post that fans of the Bravely series can expect a new announcement sometime this year. He asks that people keep their eyes on the Square Enix social media accounts for the game series for the new reveal.
Asano also tweeted that there is a sale on Bravely Default 2 until February 26, 2024. You'll be able to purchase the game for half price. Bravely Default 2 came out in 2021 and it is the third installment of the Bravely series. Unlike the previous two games, it has a new story and set of characters, but keeps the basic battle system throughout.
While there are three main games for the Bravely series, there have been plenty of spin-offs. The most recent one is Bravely Default: Brilliant Lights, which is a Japan-only mobile game. So far, Square Enix has not made any announcements in regards to an international release. This game uses the same battle system as the other games, and also lets players encounter characters from the mainline titles.
Bravely Default 2 is readily available on the Nintendo Switch and Windows PC.

Nintendo Japan announced that the Japanese website for the company changed, with the new URL being nintendo.com/jp. It also confirmed people using the old address (nintendo.co.jp) will still be sent to the new one.
The announcement confirmed this was part of general improvements to the company's site. This also means the Japanese website URL Nintendo Japan shared is more similar to the US version of the site, which is nintendo.com/us, than the UK one, which is nintendo.co.uk.
This reveal also clarified that some of the links will continue to use the old format on the site. It didn't explain why.
It is unknown if we could see the company's websites in different regions that matched the Japanese format switch to the new one. Nintendo hasn't made any other announcements for other regions. However, it is possible it could happen for regions like the UK that followed the previous format.
The last major Nintendo announcement worldwide involved the February 2024 partner direct. That focused on third-party games showing up for the Switch in 2024. There have also been rumors about a Switch successor being in development and potentially launching in 2025. However, Nintendo hasn't made any comments or announcement regarding the next console it has planned recently.

Nissin revealed that it will hold a collaboration between its instant udon noodle brand Donbei and Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The tie-up product will feature a FFVII Rebirth character dressed up as the Donbei mascot girl Dongitsune.
The Japanese food company is also holding sweepstakes that reward free Donbei cups on its official X account. People who reside in Japan and have an active account on the platform formerly known as Twitter can follow Donbei's account and repost the specified tweet to join the sweepstakes. The company will nullify any entries made outside Japan.
As of the sweepstakes reveal, Nissin is still pondering whether it should choose either Tifa or Aerith to be transformed into a Dongitsune. The company will formally reveal the FFVII Rebirth Donbei tie-up via a trailer that is set to go live on February 28, 2024, at 11 AM JST (February 27, 2024, at 9 PM ET).
This tie-up will add a new chapter to Nissin's collaborations with Square Enix. The two companies had previously worked together to feature Cup Noodle in Final Fantasy XV in late 2016. This collaboration continued well into 2017 when Square Enix released a Cup Noodle Hat featured in a parody trailer as Noctis' headgear via DLC.
Nissin will reveal the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Donbei collaboration package on February 28, 2024. The Japan-exclusive sweepstakes are available until February 29, 2024.

Bandai Namco published a teaser trailer for a brand-new game in The Idolmaster franchise. The new entry will also mark the addition of a sixth brand to the idol-producing simulation game series. The trailer's Japanese title translates to "Idolmaster Series New Brand App Game Teaser PV," which confirms that the new title will appear as a mobile game on Android and iOS devices.
Despite being a mobile game, the new title will feature full 3D graphics. The teaser trailer shows a schoolgirl—who will also be the new brand's protagonist—running past a school and heading towards a stage set situated outside a stadium. The new franchise brand will feature an all-new cast of characters.

The trailer's final part shows a sixth orange star getting added to a five-star image, which symbolizes the number of existing brands in The Idolmaster franchise. The red star marks the first original brand that primarily features the first thirteen 765 Production idols on arcades and consoles, but all subsequent brands appear prominently on mobile devices.
The dark blue star symbolizes the Cinderella Girls brand, while the yellow star represents Million Live. The franchise's latest brand before this reveal was Shiny Colors, which first launched in 2018 and is symbolized by a light blue star. It is also worth noting that the SideM brand, which features the series' male idols with a green star, has no ongoing games as of this reveal, following the closure of Growing Stars in July 2023.
Bandai Namco will formally reveal the new sixth Idolmaster brand, which will be a mobile game for Android and iOS devices, on March 5, 2024. It will make the announcement via a live stream that goes live at 7 PM JST (5 AM ET).

Kadokawa announced that it will publish a new Elden Ring novel in Japan. The Japanese novel Shigoto ga Owareba, Ano Shukufuku de will also have an official English title: See You At That Grace After Work.
The novel will tell the story of a Japanese office worker who enjoys playing Elden Ring solo at home and reading the game's guide websites during office break time. When a senior colleague who also plays the game discovers this worker's hobbies, the two will start interacting with each other more frequently in both real-life work and the Elden Ring game.
The novel's author will be Keiichi Hikami, who previously also wrote numerous novels based on Capcom's Monster Hunter series. The illustrator lack—best known for designing Hololive Production Vtubers Shiranui Flare and Arurandeisu, as well as Fate/Grand Order's Okada Izo, Setanta, and Andromeda—will provide images for this novel.
The new Japanese novel will be available with a price tag of ¥1,430 (~$9.50). Pre-orders for physical copies of the novel are also available on Amazon Japan, which supports international shipping. The listing also shows that the hardcover book will have 354 pages.
Elden Ring, the video game that serves as an inspiration for this novel, is immediately available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC. The game's studio FromSoftware is also working on a new DLC titled Shadow of the Erdtree, which will be available on June 21, 2024.

During the Japanese February 2024 Nintendo Direct, the new Furyu Switch, PS4, and PS5 RPG Reynatis appeared. Now NIS America confirmed it will appear worldwide and will show up on the PC via Steam as well.
There will be a bit of a gap between releases. In Japan, the Furyu RPG is expected to appear on consoles on July 25, 2024. The NIS America release window for the game is Fall 2024. This means it will likely show up sometime after September 2024.
Here's the official announcement trailer. People get an idea of what it is like to be a wizard named Marin who is suddenly in Shibuya and needs to decide if things should be handled without magic as a more ordinary person or if someone should fight with special powers.
NIS America also shared the first screenshots for the game with us, which you can see in the gallery below.
This isn't the only Furyu game NIS America will be releasing this year. It picked up The Legend of Legacy HD Remastered. That will show up on the PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC on March 22, 2024 outside Japan.
Reynatis will come to the PS4, PS5, and Switch in Japan on July 25, 2024, and it will come to consoles and the PC worldwide in Fall 2024.
