Dragon's Dogma 2's pawns are your loyal companions, your classic RPG party, and also a health hazard thanks to the Dragonsplague illness that can result in the deaths of entire towns. They're also a chatty bunch, constantly peppering your journey with banter, lore drops, and jokes as you run from one side of the map…

XCOM 2 and Red Dead Redemption unite in new roguelike you can try now

XCOM 2 and Red Dead Redemption might not initially seem like the perfect match. The Firaxis strategy game is small-scale, turn-based, and highly tactical and cerebral. Contrast that with RDR 2, a sweeping sandbox western where combat relies on reflexes, and it's tough to imagine two games that are more drastically different. Nevertheless, one visionary developer has managed to bring these two PC classics together. Mixing the hex-map, dice roll moving and flanking of XCOM 2 with the cowboy overtones of Red Dead Redemption, this is a smart new roguelike that you can try on Steam right now.

Acer graphics cards finally got interesting, thanks to two new GPUs

Acer surprised many of us when it decided to enter the discrete graphics card market a few years ago. However, its first offerings were based on Intel GPUs that, with the best will in the world, weren't the most in-demand options. Since then it's added the entry-level AMD Radeon RX 7600 and RX 7900 GRE but has otherwise maintained a modest selection. Now, though, the company has really ramped up its offerings, by bringing out Acer Radeon RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 XT cards.

While the RX 7700 XT isn't our absolute favorite GPU, that's only because its slightly more powerful sibling the RX 7800 XT is the better choice of these AMD GPUs, and our pick for the best graphics card under $500. With this card in particular, Acer could finally make some major inroads into the discrete graphics card space.

What are the best CS2 crosshairs? Choosing the perfect crosshair to suit your playstyle is no easy task. If you pick a large crosshair, you could end up blocking potential targets from your sightline. Too small and you might not be able to hit your targets from a distance.

The main thing to remember is that you're going to want to spend some time testing out each type of crosshair. Fortunately, Deathmatch has been revamped in Counter-Strike 2, so there will be no shortage of targets for you to gun down.      Friday the 13th isn't returning after all as fan remake gets shut down

Once a rival to Dead By Daylight and precursor to the likes of Evil Dead of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th is unavailable to purchase on Steam and its official servers will be closed at the end of 2024. Attempting to keep the multiplayer horror game alive, a free-to-play fan remake was originally poised for a release date reveal in April. Now, however, the owners of various Friday the 13th copyrights have intervened and issued a cease and desist order. If you were hoping for an unofficial return for Friday the 13th, the online slasher, which to this day boasts a 'mostly positive' rating on Steam, appears to be dead for good.

The best Viking games on PC 2024

What are the best Viking games on PC? The Vikings weren't the most diplomatic group of settlers in history. The famous seafaring hustlers made haste across Northern Europe, causing chaos wherever they docked. Their devilish deeds remain firmly stamped in our contemporary consciousness; most are familiar with the famous stories of the Edda, the seminal Medieval Icelandic literary works to which we owe much of our knowledge of these Norse brutes.

Viking games see us exploring the mythical underworlds of Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice and absorbing the souls of freshly dispatched dragons in Skyrim. We also get to inhabit their gnarled leather shoes as we face off against, err, Samurai and Knights in the anachronistic chaos of For Honor. There's a wide variety to ruthlessly conquer, so read if you want to loot and pillage the best Viking games on PC.

Best turn based RPGs on PC 2024

What are the best turn based RPGs? These games are about character evolution; the nature of progression and the choices you can make means that your abilities and journey may never entirely be the same across multiple playthroughs. They're also about offering robust combat mechanics and making the best use of your squad as a team working towards a common goal.

While this list may have a lot in common with our guide to the best RPG games, turn-based RPGs tend to focus more on squad-based combat and have roots in the classic tabletop RPGs of old. Games in this niche are often similar to turn-based strategy games, though to make the distinction relevant, we're focusing on games with more pronounced RPG features. Let's look at some of the best turn-based RPGs on PC.

Best The Finals weapons and guns, ranked

What are the best The Finals weapons? Grab the cash, bank the cash, and get out of Dodge - that's the plan. A lot easier said than done, though, especially when you factor in the other squads trying to do the same. While your objective in The Finals may be centered around banking money, there is always the inevitable threat of a fight, and when it does kick off, it pays to know the best The Finals weapons so you always come out on top.

In The Finals, there are a few different plays to achieve complete dominance: prioritize taking out the opposite team, head straight for the cash, or just utterly destroy the paths and buildings around the vault. One thing that you'll always need to succeed, though, is a powerful weapon or two. From our experience playing the FPS game, we have compiled a list of the best weapons, a lot of which find themselves in our best The Finals loadouts guide.

The Finals has many options for players to mull over before they step foot in the arena. Choosing the right The Finals class and The Finals weapon to suit how you play is vital if you want to achieve success. It recently left early access, which is sort of unbelievable because it's very janky in the most adorable way. You can tell it was made by someone who bloody loves aquariums, but taken at face value the career mode tells a strange tale indeed. For example, you have a very unsettling father.

Botany Manor is a game that seems calculated to make me sit up on alert like a meerkat, or crash through a wall yelling like that sentient jug mascot (I am not from America, I just know he exists). It's a puzzle game about growing plants. Holy Strange Horticulture, Batman! But Botany Manor is much less eldritch, and much more gentle historical feel-good movie starring Emma Thompson in the lead role. That role - which in this case is played by you in first person rather than La Thompson - is of Arabella Greene, a retired botanist who, thank God, is the childless inheritor of a huge manor and ancestral wealth, and so is able to spend the sunny days of 1890 pottering around the house and grounds researching weird, slightly fantastical plants almost wholly untroubled. So in this respect it is also a fantasy game. It's quite delightful, which is the sort of phrase I am confident Arabella would use.

According to one unofficial tracker created by video game artist Farhan Noor, there have been 8000 layoffs in 2024 so far, following an estimated 10,500 layoffs in 2023. The leaders of Microsoft, Embracer Group, Epic and other industry giants have made swingeing cuts to their workforces. While larger companies have inevitably seen the largest reductions, many smaller developers and publishers have also cut staff or even closed their doors. Circumstances vary by company, of course, but as regards the biggest publishers, there are some broad overlapping causes: reckless or, if you prefer, "overambitious" expansion and overhiring during the pandemic lockdown gaming boom; lower-than-hoped returns on new technologies and business models such as NFTs; and rising global interest rates, which have scared away potential investors.

The carnage was uppermost in Larian CEO's Swen Vincke's mind when he accepted Baldur's Gate 3's Best Narrative gong at the GDC Awards last month. According to Vincke, the layoffs can be traced straightforwardly to a pattern of executive greed that sees company leadership betting the livelihoods and stability of their workers on whatever new idea seems capable of delivering instant growth for shareholders.

Genshin Impact Feline Fortress Furrdyssey Cat Cafe Event Begins

HoYoVerse just kicked off the Feline Fortress Furrdyssey in Genshin Impact, which is event involving helping cats tied to Mondstadt's The Cat's Tail. People who take part before April 18, 2024 can earn special rewards like furniture and a cat-related item.

To take part in the cats event in Genshin Impact, you need to have finished the Prologue Archon Quest in Mondstadt with Dvalin called "Song of the Dragon and Freedom." You also have to be at Adventure Rank 20 at least. The recommendation is that you also get through Archon Quest chapter 4, but that isn't required.

There are five stages in the event, each involving a different cat. In each case, you need to set up a Furball Fortress and place items like seats, sofas, lighting, and accessories to meet the aesthetics, comfiness, and durability requirements of each cat. Once that is done, you can feed and pet the cat to become friends.

Doing everything right in the Genshin Impact Feline Fortress Furrdyssey event will net you the Throne of Meower for the Serenitea Pot. When you use it after placing it there, you can use it to summon a cat and pet them. Other rewards include things like Primogems, experience and Talent books, and Mora.

Genshin Impact is available for the PS4, PS5, PC, and mobile devices. The Feline Fortress Furrdyssey event runs until April 18, 2024. The latest banners bring Kazuha and Neuvillette back as featured characters.

Square Enix internal transfer of Yu Miyake sparks reaction by Yuji Naka

Yuji Naka made a new tweet on his personal social media account in reaction to the news about the internal transfers in Square Enix. The article highlighted the transfer of long-time Dragon Quest series producer Yu Miyake to a new studio that will focus on mobile games.

The tweet revealed that Naka still harbors negative feelings towards Yu Miyake, following the numerous court trials held between himself and Square Enix. At the same time, Naka also gave positive remarks about Takashi Kiryu, who replaced Yosuke Matsuda as the company's president in June 2023.

Yuji Naka's new tweet is available to view right below:

Although Yuji Naka was best known for co-producing Sonic the Hedgehog at Sega, his brief stint at Square Enix from 2018 sparked many controversies. He was involved in the development of Balan Wonderworld which came out in March 2021, but he left Square Enix soon afterward at the end of April 2021.

The exit was not amicable either, as Yuji Naka later revealed that Square Enix removed him from the Balan Wonderworld director role six months before its release, as he sued the company in April 2022. In late 2022, Yuji Naka ended up getting arrested twice for two separate insider trading scandals that involved the companies Aiming Inc. and Ateam Entertainment Inc.

Yuji Naka is serving a four-year suspended sentence that the Tokyo District Court handed over to him in July 2023. If he violates the rules during the probation period, he will have to serve time in prison for 2.5 years.

Mobile Fighter G Gundam 30th Anniversary logo revealed with new project

Sunrise and Bandai Namco Filmworks revealed that a new project for Mobile Fighter G Gundam is in the works. The project will appear to mark the 30th anniversary of the mecha anime show that first aired in Japan in 1994. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]

The studio has yet to confirm the format of this new project. However, it did share new sketches of a character who will appear there.

Mobile Fighter G Gundam appeared in 1994 as a part of celebrations for Gundam's 15th anniversary. The title distinguished itself for having a different theme from other Gundam shows. In lieu of futuristic space wars with manned robots known as Mobile Suits, G Gundam featured Gundam Fight tournaments where each nation deploys a representative Gundam formally known as Mobile Fighter to vie for the leading position in the federation.

The protagonist of G Gundam is Domon Kasshu, who represents Neo Japan by first piloting the Shining Gundam. The late singer Yoshifumi Ushima provided two opening theme songs for the show: "Flying in the Sky" and "Trust You Forever."

Sunrise made the reveal at a special live stream to celebrate the Mobile Suit Gundam metaseries' 45th anniversary, which was geo-locked to Japan only. Domon Kasshu's Japanese voice actor Tomokazu Seki was present in the stream together with Toru Furuya (Amuro Ray from the first Mobile Suit Gundam) and Kana Ichinose (Suletta Mercury from The Witch From Mercury)

The stream also revealed new illustrations of the series' protagonists in party attire to mark the anniversary. The lineup features not only G Gundam's Domon Kasshu but also Gundam Wing's Heero Yuy and Gundam X's Garrod Ran.
