PCGamesN Monday, June 17, 2024 3:54 PM There's a dichotomy at the heart of Overwatch 2. On one hand it's the most loathed game Blizzard has ever produced, and that includes Warcraft 3: Reforged. The sequel to the original big name in hero shooters sits on a horrendous player score, with only 18% of all reviews being positive. On the other hand, 30 thousand people are logging in to play it each day - and that's just on Steam, there are plenty of other places to play it. This means this popular/unpopular game is chugging along quite nicely despite the poor reviews, and the lid just got lifted on what players can expect in the next season. There's romance and flirting, bickering and all-out fighting, all made plausible by a colorful cast of perfectly crafted fantasy characters. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, June 17, 2024 1:11 PM A Quiet Place is a very solid horror movie that seemed primed for a video game adaptation from the off. After all, it already had all the ingredients of a video game right there: the whole film is essentially one overlong stealth mission with a punishing fail state - any crunchy glass or other noise would immediately draw the attention of deadly alien monsters - and at one point there's a whiteboard with the narrative equivalent of Dead Space's "CUT OFF THEIR LIMBS" graffiti scrawled on it. Lo and behold, we're getting a Quiet Place video game. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, June 17, 2024 12:40 PM Baldur's Gate 3's upcoming mod support update, which will introduce official modding tools to the sprawling Dungeons & Dragons RPG later this year, will effectively serve as Larian's swan song for their work on the game. |

Last year's reboot of the 2014 game of exactly the same name - despite the successor originally being a numbered sequel, then at least having a 'The' at the start of its title to help tell them apart a little - will now get its own follow-up in a third Lords of the Fallen game. The upcoming sequel doesn't have a name yet, but I really hope they stick with the bit and just call it "Lords of the Fallen" again. |

The Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster are now available on Steam via a stealth drop. There is also a launch sale, which will end on July 1, 2024. [Thanks, Wario64!]
You can watch the Steam launch trailer for Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster here:
The remastered versions originally came out on September 15, 2023 for the Nintendo Switch. You can read our review of it here. However, the original iteration of the first game came out in 2003 for the Nintendo GameCube. The sequel came out several years later in 2006, also for the GameCube.
The series was a joint effort between tri-Crescendo and Monolith Soft. Monolith Soft would later go on to develop the Xenoblade Chronicles series. Meanwhile, tri-Crescendo co-developed Tales games post Zestiria. It also developed Eternal Sonata and Digimon World Re:Digitize.
Baten Kaitos is an RPG series in which players assume the role of a guardian spirit who guides the protagonist and his party in an adventure across an aerial kingdom. Cards play an important part of the game. They're not only the foundation for the battle system, but they're also plot devices, as well as how you manage your items.

Paradox Interactive announced that it canceled Life By You. Life By You was going to be a life simulation game akin to the The Sims series.
In a message on the Paradox Forum, Deputy CEO Mattias Lilja explained and apologized for the situation. It starts by acknowledging that it was a difficult decision and that Paradox failed to meet both its and the community's expectations. In order to make the game fit their original vision for it, the developers chose to delay it twice. It also held off on Early Access release due to the game "lacking in some key areas," and the roadmap to a release version it would be confident in was too long and difficult. Life by You was promising and had its strengths, but it decided to stop development since even more time on it would not help them reach a version it would be satisfied with.
Most of the comments agreed with Paradox Interactive's decision. Some stated that it's better to cancel it rather than putting more pressure on developers. Others noted that they weren't surprised because of how silent the social media presences were for the game.
An announcement trailer for Life By You came out a year ago. Like The Sims 3, it featured an open-world design and allowed you to follow your characters to work and shop. Some Sims games featured these options, but they were in expansion packs or you needed to go to another lot (through a loading screen).
Life By You will no longer appear on the Windows PC, as development on it has stopped.

The new Fate/Samurai Remnant newest DLC 3, which is called Record's Fragment: Bailong and the Crimson Demon, has a June 20, 2024 release date and includes a new Rider. The character is Rogue Rider Servant Zhao Yun, one of Liu Bei's Five Tiger Generals of the Warring States Period in China.
The announcement came via the official Fate/Samurai Remnant social media account, and it featured key art of Rider Zhao Yun and a mysterious black-winged woman:
This new story chapter features the protagonist Iori Miyamoto facing off against a series of strange anomalies. The preview on the Koei Tecmo site described new enemies, a mystery involving disappearing children, and a younger version of Yui Shousetsu combined with a warning. All this is mixed in with the sudden appearance of Rider Zhao Yun to complicate the Waxing Moon Ritual.
To play the new DLC, players must complete up to chapter three, which is "Seek the Heroes to Survive." On the map, they should select "Record's Fragment: Bailong and the Crimson Demon" in order to access the new story.
This add-on will follow the two other story DLCs. One features Gilgamesh, the golden Archer. The other involves Yagyu Munenori, a famed swordmaster.

SNK revealed the official Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Rock Howard and Terry Bogard character art. Each one shows the sheets used to design the fighters and offers a look at finer details in both of their outfits in the game.
Each of the two character sheets show the characters with their jackets on and off. Details like patches or designs on the jacket are isolated, so you can better read the text or see the designs. In the case of Terry Bogard, the belt buckle from his belt is also highlighted to better show that element of his Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves design.
Here are the official character sheets for Rock Howard and Terry Bogard in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves:
It seems like SNK could eventually end up sharing character art for all Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves fighters in this fashion. This would also mean we'd get a better look at some of the most recent reveals. For example, during Summer Game Fest 2024, we learned B. Jenet would return and a new fighter would be Vox Reaper.
Alongside the designs, SNK reminded people that the Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves website is live. Its character section is now open. Visiting pages shows off their official profiles, their fighting styles, their birthday, their blood type, a link to their trailer, and some official images. However, the Command List sections for characters aren't accessible just yet.
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves will release in early 2025 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, though there is no exact release window for it just yet.

I didn't expect to start a farming sim game where an encounter with Truck-kun running over my avatar would isekai me to another world, but that's exactly how Everafter Falls starts. Instead of getting run over being the end, it's a reintroduction to a more tranquil, rural life. However, while there are some unique elements here and a gameplay loop some may find satisfying, it might not be unusual enough to stand out among existing games in the genre.
As mentioned earlier, Everafter Falls starts with the player being hit by a truck and waking up in the titular town. Dog is there to let you know that was a virtual reality sim involving a visit to "Earth." While the player character doesn't remember anything or anyone, Dog explains this is "normal" and assures you that you've lived a happy life as a community member for years, you've just been gone for about a year, and it'll be easy for you to get back to farming, helping your neighbors, and fighting in the dungeons.
The thing is, I wish Everafter Falls did a little more with its setup or attempted to lean into how different it could be with the idea of something being up sooner. Picontieris an example of taking a farming sim game where dealing with chores and daily life is accompanied by lore that shows something else went on. Every time I'd see a story segment pop up after a nap, I'd hope it would hint more at what's going on, but it takes a while to start developing things in a way that pays off in the way I wanted. Maybe it would have helped if the fellow villagers' personalities were stronger and other narrative elements stuck out more, but I feel like it could have leaned harder into this promising premise.
This isn't to say SquareHusky doesn't try to show how Everafter Falls is unique relatively swiftly. You get your pet via a quest rather promptly, which acts as a means of tilling soil, watering plants, carrying extra items, assisting in battle, or even teleporting places. You can use drones or pixies to help with daily tasks. Completing quests results in getting cards, which you eat to gain extra abilities. Essentially all the recipes you need to craft the various makers for items are available from the start. There are definitely perks to it that make sure this farming game feels different than other ones.
However, there are also elements of Everafter Falls that I felt didn't exactly land well. I'm not a fan of its artistic direction, though this a personal gripe. It looks rather generic and too simplistic. It didn't stand out in a really positive way. And while one of the selling points is supposed to be being able to see progression of growing plants' phases at a glance, I found it difficult to notice major differences on the Switch in the period between sprout and fully grown produce.
Also, if you are unfamiliar with farming and life sim games, you will get lost going into Everafter Falls. I'm well acquainted with them after years of Stardew Valley and Bokujou Monogatari titles like Story of Seasons. However, even I was flummoxed when trying to figure out how to head to the dungeon after getting the rune, how to donate items to the museum, and even how to ship items so I'd get money for seeds and upgrades. (Dump stuff in the box in front of the blue box in front of the store that is one screen to the east of your home.) You need to constantly track on the map where neighbors are for quests, and you have to do so by scrolling through their icons on the sides. It is not very intuitive, with everything essentially dumped on you at once. It took me about three tries to figure out how the fishing minigame actually worked, and it took about three more tries to then start catching fish.
Also, I'm not a fan of the Everafter Falls Switch performance. The loading times are terrible. It is at its worst when you are starting a new game or loading up a save file. It was so bad I initially thought the game locked up. We're talking minutes long waits to get into the game. I also noticed it was very slightly sluggish with two people, when in battle, or when assigning the pet to queue up multiple tasks in a row.
However, for those who can overlook some of the issues, Everafter Falls is very good at providing a gameplay loop and incentives to explore. Basically everything you find, such as bugs, seashells, fish, and certain items, can be donated to the museum or aquarium in town. People are constantly assigning you fetch quests and, while they don't always have a lot of personality or feel memorable, you get cards to augment your abilities or worthwhile rewards. It's very easy to get into a routine, and the promise of eventually getting little hints at what's going on is enticing.
Even though the execution in Everafter Falls isn't great about getting you adjusted to the farming sim and I wish it leaned more into its premise and mystery from the start, it isn't a bad game! It has its moments, with the card-based skill acquisition and multifunctional pet both being highlights. Like most games in this genre, I really did find myself getting absorbed in it for hours once I got settled. I just wish it did more to stand out.
Everafter Falls launches on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC on June 20, 2024.

Even though these events will only take place in Japan, several members from Hololive's English and Indonesian branches will also feature in most of them. The event's merchandise lineup will also include the 63 active female Vtubers from all three regional branches as of June 2024.
The event schedule, along with the list of featured Vtubers, is available right below:
Tokyo Dome City Attractions - August 1, 2024, until September 2, 2024
Hirakata Park in Osaka - August 23, 2024, until September 16, 2024

Nagashima Spa Land in Kuwana, Mie - September 27, 2024, until October 14, 2024

Yomiuriland in Tokyo - November 1, 2024, until December 1, 2024
In addition to the above theme park events, Cover will also hold a closely related Hololive Tourist campaign that covers hotels near the theme parks. This side campaign will feature another merchandise lineup featuring Pekora, Subaru, Marine, Kanata, AZKi, Mio, and Koyori in tour attendant outfits. It will also include bus trips with guide voiceovers by the same Vtubers.
These events will be part of Cover's efforts to expand the visibility of Hololive Production both inside and outside Japan. The company will also hold Hololive Stage World Tour '24 consisting of Vtuber concerts at five anime conventions across the US and Southeast Asia around the same timeframe in the latter half of 2024.
Hololive City '24 will kick off at the Tokyo Dome City Attractions theme park on August 1, 2024.

Square Enix announced a UK fan gathering for Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail. However, anyone looking to book a place on it is already too late, as it filled up within an hour.
The fan gathering was announced through The Lodestone and shared on social media. The event, which is designed to celebrate the launch of the Dawntrail expansion for Final Fantasy XIV, will take place in London, UK on June 24, 2024. The activites are set to take place in the Big Chill event space in King's Cross. It will feature food and themed drinks, a raffle, a temporary tattoo station and other unspecified activities.
However, it only took an hour for the event's 150 slots to fill up, even with a two-per-customer limit. Square Enix confirmed all slots had been taken in a reply to the original social media post. A similar fan gathering event in Germany in May 2024 also filled up quickly. While Yoshi-P attended the event in Germany, it's not clear if he will make an appearance at the UK event.
The latest Final Fantasy XIV expansion, Dawntrail, is set for release on July 2, 2024. An early access release will also take place on June 28, 2024. To get players ready for the release, Square Enix recently shared a story trailer showing off cinematics and gameplay. It also included a look at the new Pictomancer job.
Final Fantasy XIV is available for PS4, PS5, PC and Xbox Series X/S. The Dawntrail expansion will launch on July 2, 2024.

Bandai Namco revealed the Spy x Anya: Operation Memories Deluxe Edition contents for the Spy x Family game worldwide. Both the Asian and European social media accounts showed the DLC packs included, as well as the bonus items everyone gets for buying that version of the title.
Two of the pieces of DLC are the Spy x Anya add-ons anyone can purchase separately. The Thrilling Outfit Pack includes two sets of clothing for Loid, Yor, Anya, and Bond. One is the Fancy Set of formal clothes, while the other is the Undercover Work Set that shows the clothing the characters wear at their jobs. It also gives people 10,000PP to spend and a Mr. Chimera Statue that doubles the amount of Eurekas earned. The Excited Outfit Pack involves more everyday clothing. The Denim Set gives Yor and Anya overalls, Loid jeans, and a t-shirt, and Bond a denim bow. The Punk Set involves black leather jackets, red plaid bottoms, and black boots for everyone. That pack also gives people another 10,000PP and a Penguin Statue that doubles earned PP.
There are two bonus items that are only included in the Spy x Anya Digital Deluxe Edition. Both are costumes for Anya. One is a hat that looks like Director Chimera, the plush toy she frequently carries around. The other is a Bond Set costume, that lets Anya dress up as Bond the dog.
Here's the official image showing details about the Spy x Anya: Operation Memories Deluxe Edition contents.

FromSoftware and Bandai Namco issued a warning to Elden Ring players not to share spoilers from the upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. The post was made on social media ahead of the expansion's release later this week.
Spoilers for the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC began to leak online, mainly from a Reddit user who posted screenshots and video of bosses. The user has also shared details of plot points and dungeons that can be encountered throughout the expansion. They claim their source is a friend who has an advance copy of the expansion. While there are summaries of the spoilers on sites like ResetEra, we will not be sharing any of these spoilers in this article.
While it's reasonable to be suspicious of the validity of these Reddit posts, the warning posted by FromSoftware does suggest some degree of validity. The warning, posted to X/Twitter, encourages players to "be mindful of spoilers for those who want to tread into the Realm of Shadow with nothing but their determination and their minds unclouded."
For those curious about the contents of the DLC but want to avoid spoilers, FromSoftware has shared a few details of Shadow of the Erdtree. Character and enemy designs have previously been shared on social media. Meanwhile, a detailed story trailer gave teasers of what to expect from the DLC, including a darkened Erdtree and the presence of Miquella.
Elden Ring is available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, and the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC appears on June 21, 2024.

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous – Companions guide — How to recruit all companions in the campaign Screenshot: PC Invasion All the companions in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous have a starting class and a default starting level. Still, you should be able to retrain and respec their capabilities by talking to an NPC named Hilor.
