Growing up as a gay man in small-town America meant having to watch people learn empathy in real-time when they found out they'd been going to school or working with a queer person this whole time and didn't automatically hate them.      Genshin Impact new characters in the 4.7 update and beyond

Want to know about new Genshin Impact characters? During each new update, there's usually at least one brand-new playable character introduced to the roster. They typically appear on event banners with increased drop rates, including one five-star character and three four-star characters.

While we know which characters are likely to appear on the next Genshin Impact banners, some characters featured in this guide might not be playable right now, but they can still be found in Genshin Impact. We've also included some characters who are rumored to join the free PC game down the line, but may not have an in-game model just yet. While none of this information is official until Hoyoverse says otherwise, here's a round-up of all the current rumors and speculation.

Genshin Impact 5.0 release date window, new map, and characters

When is the Genshin Impact 5.0 release date? There's not long to go until the launch of Genshin Impact's next big update, where we'll get a brand-new map, characters, creatures, and story. We'll also be introduced to the Pyro Archon, who should be available as a playable character at some point in the near future.

Though Hoyoverse has been fairly quiet when it comes to the Genshin Impact 5.0 update, leakers have been hot on the latest details, including new characters, and what looks like a PvP mode. We've also got information on character kits, artifacts, and of course, a new area with creatures that we can either control or play as. Let's take a look at everything we know about the upcoming update.

FF14 Dawntrail review - Kicking open the door to an exciting new era

Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail has a tough act to follow. The previous FF14 expansion, Endwalker, managed to largely stick the landing on a ten-year story arc, and that in turn followed on from its most-lauded story to date in Shadowbringers. While endings are hard, new beginnings can be even more challenging. Yet in Dawntrail, Square Enix manages to deliver a story that's both powerful and emotional - if a little corny at times - and, perhaps more importantly, an overall experience that leaves me excited for the future of the MMORPG.

Best farming games on PC 2024

What are the best farming games on PC? There's something about the repetitive nature of tilling and planting a field. Witnessing the slow payoff of your crops growing makes you feel in tune with nature - even if you are still sitting in front of your computer screen. The best farming games on PC can vary a lot in genre and gameplay, but all eventually come down to getting your hands dirty.

Some of the best PC games that include farming are meant to be experienced alone and focus on the relationships between your protagonist and a cast of local characters. Others, like multiplayer games Staxel and Farm Together, are all about building something with friends and the fun of creating something together that's more than a prewritten story, so the genre is still full of variation. Whether they're cute and casual town games like Stardew Valley or more realistic business ventures like the Farming Simulator series, we've found a mix of the best farming games that should hit every quadrant of the agricultural games graph.

The best games like Spider-Man Remastered on PC 2024

What are the best games like Spider-Man on PC? Before Sony realized it could make money from PC gamers by selling old PlayStation games to us, we used to have to find alternative titles to get our spidey fix. For instance, we can find elements of Peter Parker's rhythmic combat system in Rocksteady's Batman Arkham series.

Though we have access to both Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered and Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PC nowadays, the series does come to PlayStation first, so we'll be waiting a while for the newest game: Spider-Man 2. You may want to play some of these superhero games if you're looking for a familiar experience in the meantime. Whether you want to play something with similar combat or you want to web-sling around a different city, there's something for everyone on this list.

Planet Coaster 2 marks the return of one of the best PC strategy games

For me personally, it all starts with Theme Park, the stone-cold classic from Bullfrog and Peter Molyneux. The amusement-ride strategy game has come a long way since then - Rollercoaster Tycoon, Chris Sawyer's 1999 masterpiece and a mainstay of our childhood cereal boxes, established a subgenre unto itself, where the building, management, and design mechanics of SimCity and Civilization were folded into something more creative and fun. Now, Frontier is keeping the fire burning - or rather, the cotton candy spinning - with Planet Coaster. One of the most-loved strategy games on all of Steam, it's finally coming back - the Planet Coaster 2 release window is confirmed.

This mini gaming PC somehow has a 16-core AMD Ryzen CPU and proper GPU

Buying a really small PC often involves compromising on gaming performance, with tiny shoebox rigs commonly relying on integrated graphics, but this new mini gaming PC from Minisforum bucks the trend. The new AtomMan G7 PT not only contains a 16-core AMD Ryzen CPU, but also sports a decent gaming GPU in the form of the Radeon RX 7600M XT. As such, despite its size, you should be able to play games at decent settings at 1080p on this mini rig.

The manufacturer of this tiny PC already has a place on our guide to the best mini gaming PC, with the Minisforum UM773 Lite using the integrated AMD Radeon 680M GPU in the Ryzen 7 7735HS to get basic gaming performance, but the new AtomMan G7 PT's specs are on a different level. Trails of Cold Steel characters in Kai no Kiseki - Rean Schwarzer

Nihon Falcom updated the Japanese official website for The Legend of Heroes: Kai no Kiseki -Farewell, O Zemuria- with five more character pages. All characters in this batch share a similarity of having their debuts in the Trails of Cold Steel sub-series, so they will make their return in Kai no Kiseki, the series' latest entry.

The five characters in question are Rean Schwarzer, Altina Orion, Crow Armbrust, Fie Claussell, and Towa Herschel. Their original Japanese voice actors—Kouki Uchiyama, Inori Minase, Takahiro Sakurai, Hisako Kanemoto, and Ai Nonaka—will also reprise their roles.

Nihon Falcom has also shared new screenshots showing that Rean, Altina, Crow, and Fie will appear in fight scenes. Towa only has cutscene screenshots, as the company noted that she will only appear to support her former classmates.

Out of the five characters, Fie has been actively involved the most in the Trails series. She appeared in the first Trails through Daybreak entry as a supporting character, and a major update for the direct sequel added her as a full-fledged playable party member.

Nihon Falcom has also been teasing Rean Schwarzer's appearance in the new entry long before this update. The company included him in the second commercial trailer that it published in late June 2024. It will also provide Rean's instructor uniform from Trails of Cold Steel III as a bonus DLC costume for people who have pre-ordered Kai no Kiseki.

The Legend of Heroes: Kai no Kiseki -Farewell, O Zemuria- will be available first in Japan on PlayStation 5 and 4 on September 26, 2024.

Evangelion Summoners War: Chronicles Crossover Begins

The Evangelion Summoners War: Chronicles crossover event is now live, giving people a chance to summon versions of Shinji, Rei, Asuka, and Mari in their school uniforms and plugsuits. There will also be a "A.D. FIELD!" quest, Shinji-Obot Port and Rei-Mirror Lake dungeons, and a Ready for Battle! Stop the Angel Invasion! event.

Some of the events and activities don't necessarily start alongside the collaboration's beginning. The Ready for Battle! Stop the Angel Invasion! one that involves defeating Angels with Evas using Energy Coins is available immediately, with Energy Coins able to be collected via missions. Asuka's Energy Gift is already ongoing, doling out 100 Energy and 10 Quick Battle Permits per day until someone collects the bonus for seven days. However, the announcement revealed that the two locked dungeons that are part of the Shinji-Obot Port and Rei-Mirror Lake ones and tied to Asuka and Mari won't open until July 18, 2024. The five-star Water Shinji unit will be a collab dungeon reward.

As for the Evangelion Summoners War: Chronicles summon banner crossover units, there are some that are available now, and others that appear on July 18, 2024. All of them are five-star "monsters." You can pull to try and get the Water Shinji, Wind Rei, Dark Shinji, and Light Rei immediately. The Water/Dark Shinji both feature Lance of Longinus Skills, to connect to the series, and a Synchronization Skill. Meanwhile, the Wind Rei has Heat Resistant Light Wave Shield and Unit 0 Pilot skills, while Light Rei has abilities like A.T. Field Deployment and Even If I Die, I Can Be Replaced. The Fire Asuka, Fire Mari, Dark Asuka, and Light Mari art is available ahead of their banners' July 18, 2024 debut, but their skills are not.

Here are how all the Evangelion characters will look in-game.

kadokawa doga kobo

Kadokawa has acquired anime studio Doga Kobo as a subsidiary. Doga Kobo is known for its work on Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun and, more recently, Oshi no Ko. [Thanks, Yahoo!]

According to a report from Yahoo, Kadokawa and Doga Kobo have been on amicable terms for the past decade. As part of Kadokawa's "global media mix with technology" strategy, it aims to increase its creative output and create anime, as well as expand its shows' IPs. With this acquisition, Kadokawa has strengthened its ability to create anime that can be popular and profitable on a global scale.

Ryuu Ishiguro, a representative from Doga Kobo, stated that the company has worked with a lot of different companies and people to create anime. Kadokawa is one of those companies and has been a good partner to Doga Kobo. Now that Doga Kobo is in a better place than ever, it will work hard to create even better works than it's released in the past.

Doga Kobo is an animation that was first established in July 1973 by former Toei Animation members. Actually, as of July 11, 2024, the company is now exactly 51 years old. Aside from the aforementioned Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun and Oshi no Ko, it also produced Koihime Musou, YuruYuri, and Chiikawa.

As of July 11, 2024, Doga Kobo is now a subsidiary of Kadokawa. You can catch Doga Kobo's current anime, Oshi no Ko season 2, exclusively on HIDIVE.

At Anime Expo 2024, I had the chance to preview about 20 minutes with Atlus' next major JRPG, Metaphor: ReFantazio. I came away the most impressed I have been in quite some time for a demo build of a game. This title feels like the next evolution of the Atlus JRPG formula and so much more than just a medieval spin Persona 5.

The start of the demo allowed me to pick between three difficulty settings, which I don't normally see for previews. I opted for the standard difficulty and the gameplay felt breezy enough but with just enough depth and challenge to tease what's to come. From the one dungeon I played, it seems like the gameplay will be somewhere around the challenge of Persona 5 but not quite on the level of the Shin Megami Tensei series.

This early dungeon featured three party members, including the protagonist and two additional characters; Strohl and Hulkenberg. We were on a mission to track down a necromancer a gorgeous dungeon and defeat them. Without a doubt, the basis of Persona 5's systems and stylization is present here, but Metaphor: ReFantazio iterates on almost every single one of those aspects.

For one, the dungeon felt absolutely massive and layered with so many different floors. The neat verticality mixed well with the occasional large-scale chambers to explore. This dungeon format felt less linear than some of the offerings for past Atlus titles, which made it more intriguing to explore. It helped, too, that there was a fair bit to see and do in the location.

Besides running around and battling monsters, there were even two side quests and objectives I ran across in the midst of the dungeon. These optional quests broke up the usual progression and provided solid reasons to explore every inch. The first came right at the start, as a side character tasked me with finding someone for her.

Then partway through the dungeon, I came across a group of people kidnapped by the villainous necromancer and locked in a room. I could find the key and free them if I wanted, which is what I did. This resulted in some optional fights and a surprising payoff to freeing the people. Without spoiling too much, it turned out the locked up people had to do with the other side quest I had to find the girl.

This intertwining nature of the side quests only made them more worth completion. Better yet, I appreciated the reward I got for these quests, which felt far more impactful than money or XP. While I won't give away everything, this reward included an entirely new bond with a side character.

Unfortunately because I spent so much time on the side content, I didn't have enough time to finish the dungeon. That said, I still had the chance to really dive into the fascinating hybrid-style combat. It reminds me of the recent The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak. You have the usual turn-based Atlus style plus some action combat as well.

With weaker foes, you can slice and dice them to death with the X button (PS5) without ever transitioning screens. However, with stronger enemies, you can hack-and-slash them to weaken or stun them. From there, you can transition to the usual Press Turn battles but with less work to do. Here, it works like you expect from Atlus in taking advantage of elemental weaknesses to earn more turns. There are some fun changes like team skills and the Archetype system.

Instead of collecting Personas, players switch between JRPG jobs known as Archetypes. These include stuff like Warrior, Brawler, Knight, and more. They each come with their own elemental skills. In this way, Metaphor: ReFantazio feels like a solid mix of traditional Final Fantasy-style JRPGs and Atlus games.

But Metaphor: ReFantazio stands out even among its inspirations due to its stunning visual style. It continues the Persona 5 way of heavily stylizing every aspect. This includes everything from the characters to special effects to even the UI. However, I will go ahead and say it right now: this title already looks somehow significantly better than even Persona 5 Royal did. The smooth transitions in battles to the unique fonts to the richly detailed character art in the menus is extraordinary.

From my time with the sadly brief Metaphor: ReFantazio preview at Anime Expo 2024, this game simultaneously feels familiar but distinct. It carries its Persona 5 inspiration well while also carving out its own path. The hybrid combat, worthy side content, and unmatched art style makes it so much more than medieval Persona. Metaphor: ReFantazio excites me with what seems to be the next evolution of the Atlus JRPG formula.

Metaphor: ReFantazio will release for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on October 11, 2024.
