For the first time in history, the IOC has voted for the creation of Olympics Esports Games. The first Games will take place in Saudi Arabia in 2025. [Thanks, Dexterto!]
This event will run for twelve years, with regular events during that time period. The IOC was considering creating Olympic Esports Games back in 2023 when it asked the IOC Esports Commission to study the logistics and such that would go into it. Granted, back in 2023, the esports event at the Olympics had games like Tic Tac Bow, Just Dance, and Tennis Clash, which are not actual esports games. Now that the Games (for real) will take place in Saudia Arabia, the IOC will start working on logistics like host city, venue, timing, and qualification process.
Quotes from people like HRH Prince Abudalaziz bin Turki Al Faisal (Minister of Sport and President of the Saudi Arabian Olympic and Paralympic Committee) and HRH Princess Reema Bandar Al-Saud indicate that Saudi Arabia in particular has a rich history of esports with millions of gamers (almost half of whom are female). The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is seeing a lot of sports growth as a whole, with women in particular becoming more active in areas like esports, golf, equestrian, and such. There are "now over 330,000 registered female athletes and nearly 40 women's national teams competing internationally." There is also pay equality when it comes to male and female athletes.
On paper, everything sounds great. But the IOC, even a whole year before the 2024 Paris Games, found itself yet again in hot water with corruption allegations and security concerns. These happen almost every Olympics, such as during the 2016 and 2021 ones. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is also "the worst of the worst" when it comes to political and civil rights. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said in a 2023 Fox News interview that he would continue "doing sport washing" if it would increase the Kingdom's GDP even by 1%. Sport washing is the whitewashing of the country's international image via heavy sports investment.

For a limited time, a Genshin Minini Cafe will open up in Japan from July 31, 2024. This is a collaboration between Genshin Impact and the popular minini characters from Line Friends. [Thanks, PR Times!]
The dates that the cafes will be open are:
You can make a reservation (which costs 650 JPY) before you go. Each reservation allows for a maximum of four guests. If you reserve a table, you can get a multi-use case that has the visual of the Genshin minini characters on it. If you order a drink, you can also get a free random coaster. The characters are Paimon, Yoimiya, Ayato, Kokomi, Taroumaru, Kazuha, Raiden Shogun, and Ayaka. All of the characters (save Paimon) hail from Inazuma. Somehow, Taroumaru the actual dog made it onto this collection but Gorou the dog boy did not.
The menu items are:
Normal menu items like soft drinks and hot coffee also exist. Limited and original goods from this collaboration include keyholders, stickers, cloth pouches, and a mug cup. All of them contain the key visual of the Genshin Impact minini characters.
Genshin Impact is readily available on the PS4, PS5, Windows PC, and mobile devices.

Japanese VTuber Korone Inugami will appear on the Sonic Station broadcast as a special guest. The broadcast will be held on July 30, 2024 at 4AM PT/7AM ET/1PM CET/8PM JST. It will appear on YouTube. Those interested in the broadcast can click the bell button on the video to receive an alert once it goes live.
The Sonic Station broadcast with Korone Inugami will also feature information on new Sonic the Hedgehog merchandise. Information about the broadcast was shared through the official Sonic the Hedgehog Japanese X (Twitter) account.

This is not the first time Korone has appeared on a broadcast or program related to Sega's iconic blue mascot. On September 27, 2023 Sega announced that the dog-girl VTuber would appear at the Sonic Square collaboration event held at Fuji-Q. The event also included an AR spot where attendees could take a picture with Korone, and have the chance to win signed merchandise. Korone is a known fan of Sonic the Hedgehog, and has even received a line of special crossover merchandise, featuring the VTuber in a Sonic-themed outfit.
The Sonic Station Live broadcast with Korone Inugami will be held on July 30, 2024 at 4AM PT/7AM ET/1PM CET/8PM JST through YouTube.

Atlus has posted a new video for Metaphor: ReFantazio, introducing the Prince's Curse. The Prince's Curse is a part of the story that will affect the player's journey as they explore Euchronia.
According to the video, someone attacked and placed the spell on the prince, causing what looks like dark vines to protrude from his chest. It's such powerful magic that even people who normally can't see it are able to perceive those vines. At the time of the attack, sages within the palace tried to dispel the curse on the prince. But the curse was very complicated and they were unable to do so. This prince is the childhood friend of the main protagonist and this curse is the inciting incident that causes the protagonist to go on a journey.
Metaphor: ReFantazio is an upcoming fantasy game from the creators of Persona 3, 4, and 5. It'll feature some familiar elements to people who played those games, such as a schedule system and a relationship system. Granted, other RPGs also have these sorts of mechanics in place. Metaphor: ReFantazio will come out on October 11, 2024 for the PS4, PS5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. More information on the story and the lore will appear every day on the Atlus YouTube channel.

Humble Games announced that it's publishing division is currently undergoing massive restructuring. Several employees under the publishing division announced that they had been let go on social media platforms such as X (Twitter) and LinkedIn. [Thanks, Game Developer!]
Humble Games, through it's publishing label, has published titles such as SIGNALIS, a fixed camera angle sci-fi survival horror game that we thoroughly enjoyed, and Coral Island, a farming sim that slots into the "cozy" genre that naturally including farming and romance.
According to a statement from Humble Games, titles currently in development will remain unaffected by the closing of the publishing label. The statement came after the reports that the publishing label had been shuttered entirely from former employees that worked as part of the division. As of July 23, 2024 there has been no word from developers that have received funding from Humble Games on current, in-development projects, about this affecting their titles.
This restructuring will not affect employees or activities concerned with the Humble Bundle section of the company. On October 17, 2017 Humble Bundle was acquired by IGN Entertainment, a subsidiary of Ziff Davis. Under Ziff Davis, IGN Entertainment has gone on to acquire the Gamer Network, which includes Eurogamer, Rock Paper Shotgun, and VG427.

After seven years of service, Bandai Namco ended support for the online version of Tales of the Rays, and the offline version is now live. This version of the game will only be available for those who previously played the original Japanese online release of the game.
In addition, in order to access the offline version of Tales of the Rays players will need to update the app to version 7.0.0 and follow the instructions to migrate the data of the online version of the game. Players will only be able to complete this process before October 22, 2024, after which it won't be possible. Players who have completed this process will be able to continue playing even after October 22, 2024.
Bandai Namco also noted that the game might become inaccessible with future updates to mobile OS, since the game will not receive any further support. Players planning to access the offline version of Tales of the Rays will need approximately 10 GB of free space. Furthermore, the development team for Tales of the Rays posted a message on social media thanking players for the last 7 years of support, and sharing artwork of the cast of characters.
The offline version of Tales of the Rays is now available on Android and iOS mobile devices, but only to those who have played the Japanese online version of the game prior to end of service and update their data before October 22, 2024.

Voice actress Noriko Ohara died on July 12, 2024. She was the voice actress for Nobita from Doraemon and Doronjo from Yatterman. [Thanks, Game Watch!]
81 Produce announced on July 23, 2024 that she died on July 12, 2024. She was 88 years old at the time of death. According to 81 Produce, she was in the hospital for an unnamed disease. However, the medication was not helping her and she died on July 12, 2024. At the request of her surviving family, her funeral was a private affair.
Ohara lent her voice to a lot of older anime, making her a familiar figure to those who grew up on shows like Doraemon or Urusei Yatsura. Some of her most prominent roles include Nobita Nobi from the 1979 version of Doraemon, Oyuki from the 1981 version of Urusei Yatsura, Peter in Heidi, Girl of the Alps, and all of the female villains in the Time Bokan series (including Yatterman).
Other major deaths from the world of Japanese anime and manga in 2024 include those of Akira Toriyama and TARAKO. Toriyama was the creator of the Dragon Ball series, as well as the character designer for the Dragon Quest series. Meanwhile, TARAKO was a voice actress whose most well-known role was Maruko from Chibi Maruko-chan.
Noriko Ohara, voice actress behind Nobita from Doraemon, died at 88.

Bandai Namco announced a new collaboration with watchmaker Angel Clover to create watches inspired by Tekken 8 characters Jin Kazama and Kazuya Mishima. Pre-orders for the watches are now open and they are expected to release on August 23, 2024 in Japan.
Both watches cost 42,900 yen (or approximately $275.63.) The designs of the watches are similar, with the most notable difference being in the color of the background and the motifs used. For Jin's watch, the background is black and the hand use in the marker for seconds is designed after the logo used in the Tekken series for the Devil Gene. Meanwhile, for Kazuya's watch the background is purple, similar to his signature coat in Tekken 8, and the design for the part of the watch marking the seconds features the logo of G Corporation.
Additionally, the back of each watch includes iconic move inputs from the games for each character alongside their name. Jin Kazama's watch includes the title of Lighting of Fate and the command for Laser Cannon. As for Kazuya Mishima, he is titled the Cold-Blooded Oppressor and his signature command is Abolishing Fist.

The new Angel Clover Tekken 8 watches are now available for pre-order from the watchmaker's online storefront. The watches cost 42,900 yen (~$275.63.) Tekken 8 is available for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and Heihachi Mishima will be the next DLC character.

Capcom opened a new batch of pre-orders for several of its Monster Hunter figures, including Deviljho and Tigrex, on its e-Capcom web store. People residing outside Japan can also place orders on the Japanese website as it supports international shipments via the WorldShopping widget. [Thanks, Hobby Watch!]
The two highlighted entries in this lineup will be the Capcom Figure Builder Creators Model figures of Deviljho and Tigrex. Capcom first released the Deviljho figure in February 2024, and it will be available again at 22,000 yen (~$139.65). Meanwhile, the Tigrex figure which costs much less at 13,200 yen (~$83.80) had a much older debut in March 2014, although Capcom will retain the new restock batch's quality on par with the original release.
In addition, Capcom will also bring back six other Monster Hunter figures in a single set. The Capcom Figure Builder Standard Model Plus The Best Vol. 19-20-21 set will be available at 11,880 yen (~$75.40). This package was originally available in June 2023, and it contains Magnamalo, Goss Harag, Tetranadon, Crimson Glow Valstrax, Wind Serpent Ibushi, and Thunder Serpent Narwa.
As a side note, all of these six monsters made their debut in Monster Hunter Rise. However, unlike the first two figures, these ones will only come with generic bases.
The newly restocked Monster Hunter figures will be available in late January 2025.

Square Enix and Japanese camera manufacturer Pentax will hold a Final Fantasy XIV in-game photo contest. 15 winners will be picked from all participants, and their winning submission will be will be put on display as part of a special exhibition.
In addition, the winners will receive a set of 3 in-game items as a prize, and other 1,000 participants will be chosen as part of a lottery and can choose one of the 3 in-game items as a gift prize. The three in-game items are the Cloud hairstyle, Noble Barding Chocobo armor, and the Great Paraserpent fashion accessory.
The theme of the contest is "scenes that can be found during an adventure" and participants are allowed to include characters in their submissions. The submission period is now open and will end on August 12, 2024. The judge for the Final Fantasy XIV Pentax in-game photography contest is Japanese photographer Takumichi Seo. The aforementioned exhibition for the winners of the contest will be held at Seo's gallery Imaging Gallery Gleam located in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture between September 3-16, 2024.
In other news relating to recent FFXIV collaborations, Square Enix announced that the recently announced Gong Cha event will be delayed in some countries and will start in mid-August 2024.
Final Fantasy XIV is readily available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and the submission period for the Pentax in-game photo contest will end on August 12, 2024.

HoYoVerse has revealed a new gameplay trailer for Zhu Yuan, who is the upcoming S-rank agent in Zenless Zone Zero. Her trailer also shows other members of Public Security.

It's also available in Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.
The trailer is almost two and a half minutes long. It starts with Zhu Yuan doing paperwork while also working to save cats in distress or civilians who fall into Hollows. Then, it goes on to show her animations in combat. Zhu Yuan's battle style has her using firearms and she has a very active way of moving about the map. The trailer also shows her when she's in a meeting with fellow officers like Seth and Qingyi, as well as when she's taking a call from her mother.
As a reminder, Zhu Yuan will be a 5-star Attack Ether character who'll be in the banner for a limited time. She'll be debuting alongside Ben and Nicole. Her English voice actress is Alaina Wis (Darya in Penny Blood: Hellhound) and her Japanese voice actress is Marina Inoue (Yanqing in Honkai: Star Rail). Her voice actress in Chinese is Mace (Fischl and Albedo in Genshin Impact).
Zenless Zone Zero is readily available on the PS5, Windows PC, and mobile devices. Zhu Yuan will make her playable debut in Zenless Zone Zero from July 24, 2024.
